I almost want to make a bag out of the books that have disappointed me - if they couldn't have entertaining content, at least their husk can be useful.
The destructive nature of creation would be devilishly satisfying in such a case- just thinking about it is doing nice things to my spirit. 😂
This comment and the reply definitely pass the vibe check
I was thinking the exact same thing! Even started looking my books over for potential victims.
I’m coming for *you* “Forever Amber”!!
Using real books you could carve out spaces shaped for what you're going to keep in it. Like in the hammer🔨 in Shawshank Redemption, but car keys and sun glasses 👓
I am neither an elderly woman or a young child, but I'm still impressed.
Same
I'm one of the elderly females. Hi! 😷💉😂👵🏈🎃
I'm somehow an elderly woman and a young child in the same time, and yes, I'm impressed twice as much .
I too am somehow both and am therefore basically losing my mind about everything Rachel does.
I am in this category, I think ~ a 50 something-er~ Heather ~
"I strive mostly to impress elderly women and um...young children."
Honestly same. Making old women laugh and having small children think you're cool are two of the purest highs on the planet.
The Everest and Kilimanjaro of self esteem… some may say
I usually make teenage boys laugh.
I'm late but i thought this may give you good feelings! I have a 10-month-old daughter who has somehow just been happy 99% of the time ever since she was born (def not my genes), and a very kind 92-year-old grandmother who has lived alone for around 50 years, and watching them interact is the best ^^ my daughter goes around the apartment finding things to bite and messing with the radio and grandma encourages her and goes on and on about "oh look she smiled so nicely again" and "ooh she almost said a word!" I don't even need to do anything special, I'm just the chauffeur who brings snacks, and they're both so happy, it's the sweetest :))
A few weeks ago a random 7 year old informed me that I looked like a witch and I was like "yessssss. Thank you."
I want to give old women hope for the younger generations, and make children believe there's still magic in the world
Rachel's outfit when she was painting was totally giving me "Museum Curator Mom" vibes. Like I can totally imagine an overworked museum curator running to pick up her kids from school on a chilly autumn afternoon and then bringing them back to the museum so she can finish her work and the kids just enjoy the museum, soaking in all the history. (Her dad is obviously the whiskey grandpa)
Or her butch wife could embody the whiskey grandpa aesthetic. The vibes in your comment: *immaculate.*
Great imagination!
yes thank you yes
“Now since it is August and basically Halloween” pretty accurately sums up this entire fandom’s mentality
The way we are totally a fandom
Yep. I just got this adorable ghost throw pillow from home goods.
@@alesswonderland I've already started sewing my Halloween costume lol (always prepared)

Good one
BEST BOOK EVER.
YESSSS
Rachel: "And then there's this honkin' thing!"
Me: "I like. Big. Books, and I cannot lie!" etc.
Also, it looks splendid, and I love the fox book cover.
Also, traumatising movie scenes from childhood: "Young Sherlock Holmes", where the priest is hallucinating and the knight from the stained glass window jumps out and chases him. Actually, all the hallucination scenes in "Young Sherlock Holmes". Those cream cakes feeding themselves to Watson were NOT cute.
Rachel giving us the blue m&m is true love
Ah yes, my favourite song: I'm Doing Another Book Inspired Project Even Though I Don't Particularly Enjoy The Process Of Reading (Please Don't Judge Me) by Fall Out Boy.

y’all remember that tumblr post? i was a part of the fandom like 3 years ago and it was literally everywhere
Just a safety note: epoxy is chock full of isocyanates which are really bad for your lungs and skin. Please use gloves and work in a well ventilated area or better yet use a respitory mask. There's no definite limit of exposure before you develop a lifelong sensitivity/allergy, meaning some people have reactions from just a few uses of epoxy 😬
Yes! Safety is extremely important when working with these materials. Plastidip and contact cement should also be used with gloves and a respirator/in a well ventilated area. Checking the safety instructions is always the first thing I do. 😊
I was coming to the comments to say the same thing!! I hope Rachel sees this too- neglecting to work safely just isn't worth the risk for what it can do to your health
Preferably both outside and using a respirator! That stuff is no joke
“I strive mostly to impress elderly women and children”
me, who is elderly woman and young child locked in one body: *stunned*
Same though, to be honest 💜
Hard same.
I’m ten.
@@thegoom2307 You shouldn’t be on RUclips so please be careful announcing your age like that. Though if the most you watch on RUclips is Racheal here you should be okay.
add an emo teen to that and mood
I would have the leather strap fo completely around so it looks like an actual book binding for carrying. And this would also make a cute af backpack.
True! That's what I was thinking!
Yeah! Like 5 books tall, stacked up horizontal with the spines perpendicular to... your own spine lol. And then the top book lifting open and it's a deep bag. And the two leather straps to go around your shoulders go down the front of the book spines on either side!!!!!!
"I strive to impress elderly women and children"
*same*
😁😁😁
Words to live by tbh
I'm the former, an older female. She is awesome! If I got got a nickel for every "wow" I've said watching her videos, I'd be rich! So many talented artist are so overlooked by YouYube viewers. Deterred by those who yell loudest and make the most obnoxious noise! 😷💉👵
And definitely not young men!
I am an elderly woman and I am always impressed.
Me being in my early 20s, dramatically looking at my hand and closes my eyes as I balled my hand up to a fist: but what does that make me?
When you sat down to paint you gave off such "friendly-big-sister-of-your best-mate, who-will-teach-you-things-you-actually-need-to-know" vibes!! Love it all ♡♡
Absolutely! Or your sweet older cousin / cool young aunt who's basically your cousin.
this is so specific and yet so accurate
"Since its August and BASICALLY Halloween"
This is peak Rachel Maksy mood
As an elderly woman at heart and a child of the mind, this speaks to me and I feel seen.
Rachel: "This very specifically smells like..." Me: "Like you should be doing that OUTSIDE.."
She's pretty wild if i would say so myself
I’m so happy I’m not the only person that talks to bugs and calls them “sir” or “ma’am” when they come near me
I do this too and it make me so happy I'm not alone
I do this as well. Lol
Oh yes....and unlike most people, I return them outside...spiders too!!
Was it a spider?
I call them friend. “No no no friend please leave.”
Always so excited when Rachel posts like “what’re we doing today bestie”
That's the vibe! Well said
I'm the same way when rescuing bugs. "Stop RESISTING! I'm trying to HELP!"
I've wanted a "book" bag for and while now and never thought of modifying one of those book shaped boxes. This is great! Love your videos Rachel!
Your profile pic looks just like my cat i love it
Yes! I have ideas now...
Just as I was thinking that straight haired floor Rachel was kinda giving off adorable goblin vibes, she offered me a snack 🥺
Unfortunately it was a blue one, which means I'm going to be running round the house screaming and giddy for the next hour. Thanks Rachel... ;-)
My reaction was to yell "But I don't like peanuts!" Thank you anyway though
“What movies scenes traumatized you as a child?”
It was E.T for me. The scene where he appears and the little sister screams and E.T screams and everyone screams was so terrifying in my mind that every time they played the movie at home I would run to hide behind the sofa so I could avoid that scene :') And two decades later I still can't watch the damn movie from start to finish in one sit.
The other "finalist" scene that traumatied my ass was in Labyrinth, when the garbage woman tries to make Sarah stay in the garbage piles and when she is falling through the hands tunnel,; the movie is one of my favourites, but those two scenes still haunt me in my dreams.
The purse: So cool!
Yes!! E.T.!!! The very beginning of that movie where there being chased in the woods and then when the guys in the white hazmat suits take him away. I was probably 4 or 5 originally and refuse to ever see any part of that movie ever again.
ET is nightmare spawn! I still refuse to watch that movie as an adult too!
Finally, someone else who got scared by E.T. My dad showed it me and my sisters when I was 5-6 and it gave nightmares. Haven't seen it since.
Omg you are all my PEOPLE. My dad rented the movie thinking he was getting a fun movie for my sisters and me. Two out of three children ended up running from the room. My poor father 😂
The scene where he's startled, the hazmat scene and for some reason the wig scene TERRIFIED me. Watched it once in college to prove I could but it was still pretty scary 😅
@@Joy06260 oh my gosh, same!! I freaking HATE ET and refuse to watch it, even though I'm almost 31 😝
"What movie scenes traumatized you as a child?"
Hmmm....
The Fantasic Mr Fox. The stiff puppetness of the characters freaked me out, as well as the texture of the fur and skin, but still watched it hundreds of times with fascinated horror. 😂
Shrek 2, where Skrek has the nightmare about having kids.
Futuristic apocalyptic movies.
As well as Spiritd away and Never ending story.
Traumatizing!!!
Fantastic Mr. Fox is creepy. Also I was very confused about the cider the whole time cause in Ireland cider is alcohol
Would love to see like a “bookshelf tour” video where you go through and talk about all the little nick nacks and dolls of yourself that you have! Like the one at the beginning I would love to know who you made it:)
The little doll at the beginning was a gift from a fan! She will post little pics or clips of things from her P.O. Box on her Instagram.
Rachel's demographic targets are my two personality modes. By George, she's done it!
Uh, . . .
“I strive to mostly impress elderly women and um… young children”
As a young child, you skills and talents have impressed me quite a lot. I now strive to be like you and improve my sewing skills to be almost as nice as yours.
Rachel: *offers nem nem like the kind whisky grandpa that she is*
me: *literally holds up hand to take her gift*
SAME ahahahahah
Rachel naming that one book “The Fox and The Bramble” helps my unhealthy obsession with autumn-foxcore thrive.
you should check out "peppermint fox"!! they used to make little fairy-tale-esc pins of animals (foxes, badgers, deer, etc.) dressed up in historical outfits. very beatrix potter. now I think they're making stationary?
I knew I couldn’t be the only one!!🙌🦊
My mom was like, “Hey, you’re five years old. Let’s watch these movies together.” and then made me sit through The Blair Witch Project and Hannibal. The Blair Witch Project is now one of my favorite movies, two decades later, but I’m still absolutely terrified of wooded areas :-)
Same except mine was The Nightmare on Elm Street
I wonder how I turned out had I been watching horror movies at that age. Instead it was Austin Powers by day, and the Investigation Discovery channel by night.
Oh my god 🤣🤣🤣
my mom saw it in theaters while pregnant with me and threw up in the theater… maybe that’s why I love horror so much. that personal connection yknow?
I can understand mistaking a movie as kid appropriate, but surely you would realise when you started watching it. She... didn't???
The Neverending Story scene where Artax dies was probably the movie that scarred me for life 😢 Have always loved that movie but that scene is just way too emotional.
Feel u.. I am cursed with this scene..my bf watches this movie quite often..it’s a soothing thing 😅 mine is bobs burgers at the moment..well anyways…whenever I decide I’ll sit down with him to watch some mins I accidentally always end up seeing this Szene 🤦🏼♀️
Oh no, Artax!!! I still well up even as an adult if I see that scene....
When I'm going through a bad bout of depression I put on your videos and your humor and creativity help me monumentally! So thanks for being HILARIOUS and entertaining no matter what you're doing. 🏆🏆🏆🏆
I had a headache, I was stressed and grumpy AND THEN I remembered it was Friday. So I hurried up and got on here to see if there was a new video and JACKPOT! My night instantly improved!
"i am but a weary traveler... but my quest hath been complete."
me after literally going outside to get the mail...
same.
Omg same about the sneaky telly-watching 😂😂😂 Also, I was absolutely traumatised twice by the NeverEnding Story, first by Artax drowning in the moor and then by that wolf who looked absolutely real to little ol' me, so I couldn't go down into our cellar for a year because I was convinced that thing lived down there 😂😂😂
Every time I finish one of your videos, I’ve always got a big smile on my face and a better mood. My kids love your videos and have named Friday, “the day the red headed lady posts new videos”. You’re doing a lot of good here on RUclips, even if you might not feel like it sometimes. We love you. ❤️
A trick I learned as well to make a "leather bound" book is to use Mod Podge and some tissue paper. Crumple up the tissue paper, coat surface in Mod Podge, lay paper on Surface and do another coat of Mod Podge. Let dry. Paint whatever color you please!
Omgg imma use this for a project im doing where I'm faking leather thank u
@@Jonathan-pm8lg Crumpled brown paper bag works well too. After crumpling, you can use stamp ink to brush over the paper, which highlights the wrinkles.
Thank you for this!
"Into my horde, you go." Is the same vibe as: "I will keep buying new books even as my TBR piles glares at me from the shelves." Mood.
I feel called out cause like… glances at bookshelf with numerous unread books…
Yeaaaaaa… lol
I love how it came out. Also since the plasti-dip is black, I suggest you pick up some gesso for your next project so you don't have to do a billion layers
Cant believe you can freehand that beautiful artwork.
Cross-body is all I use...I have lots of vintage, cool bags but really...they're all for show. I need a purse I can feel secure wearing and have use of my hands...your "book bag" is BRILLIANT!!! xo
I have added long straps to many vintage purses in my lifetime, as I too cannot abide by a handbag or a clutch, haha!
Movie scenes that traumatised me as a kid: When the horse is swallowed by the swamp of sadness in the Neverending Story :’0
I'll never be over that shit
Artax and Atreyu
Oh Artax! 😭
Omg same 😭😭😭😭
😭
Am I the only one who got excited when she finally found the books she wanted? Watching Rachel brings me so much serotonin 🥰
I unironically love it when ever she says “here is sponser rachel” it just brings me so much joy for no reason at all
I had trouble falling asleep for a long time after accidentally seeing a scene from a British TV show "The Invisible Man" where he turns all white after dying (I think). My mom was ironing a blouse for me because I had to go to a friend's birthday (I was eight, I think), and I saw the scene while waiting for the blouse. Tha party distracted me, but when I came home and had a chance to think about what I had seen I was horrified for a long time - until my dad once asked why I was so troubled by nightmares and upon finding out he deduced it was the "Invisible Man" by Wells and gave me the book to read. For some weird reason that stopped the nightmares and fears immediately, since I knew that books weren't real (but apparantly perceived every TV show as a documentary).
This is why Fridays are my favorite. Rachel uploads.
I absolutely love how you were channeling your inner frog while doing that rad jump off of your porch! You’re always so lovely Rachel, even with your tongue sticking out! ❤️
Rachel, I’ve just discovered your channel some three days ago, on an complete accident, and I AM ADDICTED. You’re such a joy to watch. And so inspiring. Love your humour and patience with your creations. 🥰☺️🥰☺️
I've got to admit that I don't usually plan to make anything I see in your videos, Rachel, (I just like to admire them!) but this book bag just became the exception! To the craft store!
whhhyyy is she always so freaking gorgeous omfg I can't handle it
Yes. I, a 24-year old elderly woman, am pleased indeed. 🥰
The movie scene that traumatized me was in “What Lies Beneath” and when he flips her over… and she’s blue. My heart sank into my stomach, my body froze, I stopped breathing, my brain lost connection with my body. Insane. Life altering to a 9year old with her first “scary” movie 😓🤣
“What movies scenes traumatized you as a child?”
Literally the entirety of the Day After Tomorrow. I’d just learned about global warming and that movie remains one of the few to ever give me nightmares. It actually sent me to therapy lol
Me too!
Horton Hears a Who when the guy gets a needle stabbed in his arm
I love that movie 😂
I used to stand in the hallway watching my parents tv when I was supposed to be in bed as well! I don’t know the name of the movie (this was mid seventies) but it took place in an insane asylum in the 40’s……. Nightmares for weeks!!!
Pan's labyrinth for me - the eyes on the hands and that one absolutely disgusting frog. I had nightmares for weeks.
I would have kept the books as separate compartments, but that's just my personal preference. I keep A LOT of stuff in my handbag, so being able to organise them a bit is nice.
I agree. I would have done that too. Just because I like more pockets.
"I strive mostly to impress old women and little kids." WHY IS HIS LITERARY ME!?
literary me
Movie scenes that messed me up as a child: the end of Who Framed Roger Rabbit is absolute nightmare fuel
OMG it so is
that movie is just nightmare fuel itself-
"Remember when I killed your brother? I talked just...LIKE...*THIIIIIIIIIIIS*!" ~shudder~
I always forget this one. And for good reason.
me too!
Quick tip: use a heat gun around the opening of a fused contact cement tin. Makes the hardened cement gooey again. Then use a rag and twist open. ✌️
i never watched shrek as a kid because i was terrified of the torture scene with gingy and lord farquuad. i know rachel probably won't see this but i need to admit my demons
Sometimes when I'm feeling down, or just kind of blah, I rewatch tons of your videos and I can just feel the Seratonin returning.
Here, here it is. Yes we can play, yes
Movie scenes that traumatized me as a child, off the top of my head:
- The scene where the goblins run around the dark master bedroom in Labyrinth, right after kidnapping Toby. I will admit to trying to call upon them ONCE, but I was more scared they'd come for me.
- Any scene from Quest for Camelot where Ruber is in frame and his eye twitches, he still gives me the heebie-jeebies.
- The entirety of the environmental destruction in "FernGully" and "Once Upon a Forest", especially the second one which still makes me cry every damn time.
Once Upon a Forest definitely traumatized me as a kid 😭
For me it was the childcatcher from chitty chitty bang bang
@@caithemburrow5569 I'd forgotten about him! Yes!
So…we’re just gonna sleep on James and The Giant Peach and Coraline?
that scene with the goblins gets a big "no, thank you" from me.
"books are my muse, can I be bovvered to sit down and read one? No. But I like the way they look!"
I have never felt so seen in my life
Ahhh! I LOVED Death Becomes Her as a child! It's still one of my absolute favorites!
I usually watch RUclips videoes to keep me companied when i do other stuff, like play games, clean or cook.. But with Rachels videos I find myself saving them for later because I want to pay attention to every second!
Indians Jones and the Temple of Doom - the scene where they’re eating brains straight out of the monkeys. Completely wrecked me. And my sister was chewing pineapple gum the whole time so the smell of pineapple always gives me flashbacks to that scene…even 40 years later.
The Young Sherlock Holmes. The version I watched as a child had a scene where a character is hallucinating. I had never come across this concept before and the idea that you couldn’t trust what you see or hear terrified me for a few years.
saw an episode of Bones when I was about 7 where the people are burned to skeletons in their own bed. Had nightmares for a week about a skeleton under my bed trying to grab me. Yikes..
I was watching a doco about 30yrs ago. At the time they didn't give warnings for graffic content. Huge machete whipped off the top of a live monkey sitting on the counter and they poured boiling oil straight over the intact brain and immediately served it to the customer who was just sitting there watching the whole process.
And why did I sit there and watch?
Because I had no idea what was going to happen and it was so fast my mind took longer to process and to react to what I had witnessed.
And has that moment of horror affected me?
HELL YEAH!
@Diane Moser lol...I must've been a different kind of kid bc I watched that movie as a kid & loved it!! Im 42 & still watch it when it's on!! If anything freaked me out about that movie, it was all the bugs they realized they were walking on when Indy lit that match....then later on, Willie is seen from the back with a centipede crawling over her shoulder & underneath her hair. I can stand most bugs, but if anyone gets a centipede near me, I will pass the f*ck right out....*shivers* I freakin' hate those things & I swear they serve no purpose!! Now when I see that scene, I'm gonna think of pineapple gum--i usually catch it on TV once a month or so!!!
Ah for me it was also an Indiana Jones movie, but it was the scene where the guy got eaten by giant ants
Rachel: “Sling it over like a newsie or get out!”
Everyone watching: “OPEN THE GATES AND SEIZE THE DAY!! DON’T BE AFRAID AND DON’T DELAY!!”

The movie scene that traumatized me as a child…..Winnie the Pooh, Heffalumps and Woozles, scared me to death 🤣
Same! I was going to comment this! That and pink elephants on parade from Dumbo
@@hannahclaire4683 I just commented this! That whole scene used to terrify me as a child!
Movies that traumatised me as a child:
Wall-E
Bridge to Terabithia
Jaws (I live in a costal city whose waters are filled with sharks since the 80’s)
Psycho
A scene from a movie I don’t know the name of in which an evil spirit lies on the bed with the girl because she left a person sized space between her back and the wall
Every apocalyptical, War of the Worlds-esque, or natural disaster movie I ever saw the trailer for
And Toy Story didn’t traumatise me per se but it did make me attach a vague notion of feelings and emotions to objects for the rest of my life so I not unusually do things as to not hurt their feelings even though I rationally know they don’t have any
Yes to Wall-E!! I saw it in the cinema when it came out and my god did I cry as the weight of environmental guilt crashed onto my seven-year-old head (and it's advertised as a comedy!!!)
omg the Toy Story thing! I thought I was the only one lol
@@Anima19925 Same!!! Haha, i guess it's logical that I'm not the only one. They sure did a good job on that storytelling!
As someone who majored in English and then worked in a library its totally okay to not like reading. It’s not for everyone just like how not everyone likes video games. It’s a big time commitment and if its not your thing then sitting down to get through a book will be more frustrating than fun.
You did so much better than I ever would have thought possible with your insect fan.
I used one of Michael's' huge fake books to store my Harry Potter DVDs in. Works great! I might try making a book purse, but on a smaller, simpler scale to yours. You are totally Awesome, Rachel!! TFS! ~Janet in Canada
i'm tempted, too. but i think cutting the big book along the "pages" and making the bag from one fake book seems like an easier and less obtrusive option. the store near me better have the fake books :D
Unrelated, but my mum’s name is Janet and we live in Canada lol

vintage clothes + sweaty Rachel = somehow still perfect
I have an actual bag made out of a book! It's a very fancy clutch, made out out of leather bound edition of Gray's Anatomy. The bag compartment is cut out of the pages, which are glued, lined with fancy medical illustration covered paper, and the external pages are covered in silver leaf. My daughter bought it for me because I use Gray's Anatomy for drawing references and I adore the original illustrations. We like to be fancy ladies what go to see classical music (she's a musician). Since I am not a fancy lady, it really helps me feel the part 💜
I just love your sense of humor, it never fails to make me smile. Thank you for all the time and effort you put into your videos, its greatly appreciated!

You know what I love so much about your crafts? That they aren't 100% perfect. Thank you Rachel for creating fun and cozy content
Literally that exact scene from Death Becomes Her traumatized me, but I had no idea what the movie was called!! I’ve tried describing the movie to people over the years and no one ever knew what I was talking about! So thank you for finally giving me words for this nightmare 😂

Brilliant! Once again, I am enchanted with this project idea! Also, referring to stores as if there is an actual person makes me laugh. 5:31
I love how well your background music plays so well into the overall aesthetic of the video 😊
why, oh why do insects and bugs not understand we are trying to help them?! maybe if they took a course in speaking helping human. love Fox And Bramble! and Magpie Mtstery! great titles and so glad you did a cross body book purse ~ they’re the best for hands free exploring and excavations… another literary/fashion triumphe!
Always entertaining and productive. So much fun to watch
You really inspire me so much Rachel, Fridays got so much better since I started watching your content last year. I look up to you so much and hope to be like you someday!
What movie scenes traumatized me as a child you ask? Why, my dear, the ENTIRE original Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. You see, the parentals raised me on a healthy diet of Monty Python and British sitcoms. Sarcasm was a second language before I entered school. Young Meg *knew* Gene Wilder did not give one, singular Flying Flamingo about those horrid children. Honestly, that whole movie is a fever dream fueled by peyote and has no place being shown to youths.
PS: Adult me loves it. Child me, still haunted, vacant-eyed, rocking in the corner.
Oh man, the nightmare boat ride?! And the part where they’re floating up towards the giant death fan in the ceiling? A lot of it is so traumatizing to children
