Glad to see yet another incredibly talented GW staffer branch out on their own and hopefully start to make the living that they always deserved to. Duncan, Peachy and now Louise. I remember seeing the Sphiranx on display at WHW and realising it was the best paint job in the building. Inspirational work.
I might try this for some eldar power weapons I'm also tempted to make a rainbow warrior Sergent for my deathwatch army. Your lore video turned that chapter from a meme chapter in my eyes to something pretty cool. Keep up the great work
I'm loving your channel! For my rainbow orks, I did the base with glitter mixed in clear elmer's glue. I think that would fit with your rainbow warriors
This is an amazing effect! I am going to be painting a dragon with opal horns and claws quite soon for my fiancee, so I will definitely be referring back to this video! I thought I would be stuck having to get a specific colorshift paint to get the effect, but now I have another amazing option!
Just used this technique, worked great. To add a step, I hit it with daler rowney’s shimmering blue ink. When the light hits it the entire blade lights up with the opalescent pattern. Amazing result.
One thing I would like to see more of in painting tutorials videos in general (unless I keep missing them) is not just how to do one type of model idea, but an entire group or set. Like for example when you see said model paint scheme, we eventually see a unit to get an idea of how the rest would look on the tabletop before fully committing to said idea. Like Outrun-Neon Necrons. Though understandably AFTER you get your one paint scheme idea done for video based on one model or sure! But it be so need to see a unit displaying said ideas. I'm always up to know how to do something like 10 Skaven Clanrats, or 13 Tyranid Termagants in an interesting way through the best and fastest methods possible, and it not feel like a chore.
I like the old paint bottles in the background. I have one old, hex-shaped, paint bottle with still flowing paint. That is how I learned not to lick my paint brush, whatever chemicals they added to keep the paint flowing is not for consumption. :)
I've created my own home-brew chapter called the "Crystal Warriors" so will definitely give their power weapons a go using this method :-) LOVE your channel already, and can't wait to see where you take us with your awesome painting tutorials as well as your Lore videos :-D
This is genuinely my favorite power sword/weapon in general I’ve ever seen in miniature painting. It literally looks like it’s made of opal. It’s beautiful and what a way to start a channel. I've not painted in months and I immediately snapped out of it and started cleaning and prepping my painting area after seeing the first Rainbow Warriors video. Thanks so much for this tutorial!
tip for that middle line on the sword, use pinstriping tape, basically like 3-6mm wide painters tape, stick it either side and use the side of an old but ok brush to stipple on the line lightly
This is such a great effect! This is such an easy tutorial to follow too. I bet I have some vintage Eldar in a box somewhere that this would look amazing on.
For the middle part of the sword and similar difficult edges I keep a brush that has developed a hook around and use the outside curve of the hook with a tiny amount of paint. It only touches the edge and curves away from the flat sections. You get a straight line with minimal effort.
Releasing your background music so early was a genius move! Now watching your videos feels like "coming home" to me, when I hear it! Also: Cool sword bro! You smart!
I have a suggestion! When you were talking about doing the hilt highlights, I caught my brain doing something that a less experienced painter would not have. When you suggested a particular shade as the highlight color, my brain automatically substituted "add some white to the base color to make the highlight". As I write this, right below is a post about someone talking about how his daughter is inspired by this channel. She probably needs to be told about mixing colors, and how you can make highlights with just a little white, and why black isn't always the right color to use to make a shading color. Actually show how you load some white paint on a brush and mix it in on your palette to get a highlight shade. If you make a "how to mix colors video", you'll reach a lot of people who need that knowledge. I'l, watch it just to be sure I didn't miss a technique, but the new painters absolutely need to know how to mix their own shades.
I like to start from black as it tends to be the most common colour people prime their minis in! And I think it's a great learning opportunity to teach about good paint consistency :)
Lovely colors used there! If the middle line goes wonky just add a few thin diagonal white stripes coming from the thickest wobbles to make it look like shiny reflections :) easy hack for the wobbly lines
VALLEJO....she said the double L correctly...i'm tearing up a bit. THANK YOU, from all of Spain. First time in years of watching painters on youtube, someone actually pronounced it correctly. Especially for such a common brand.
This is an amazing effect you did there. Have you ever thought of doing this for the entire Armor of a marine? Imagine that, The Prismatic Legion Marine!
I admit, I'm gonna miss you from the Citadel Masterclass - your amazing techniques were great, but your charisma really made the channel. I'm gonna sliiide on over to Patreon now and...
For the middle bit of the sword I'd hold it upside down and paint in a downward motion. Found that's easiest way to replicate consistent straight brushstrokes.
Welcome to the RUclips family. Where the real painters live. 😂 When it comes to that central ridge on the sword I tend to make sure I've got a colour down that I can easily go back to. Take my recently finished Roboute Guilliman's the Emperor's Sword.I did two edge-highlights, one of Yriel Yellow and one of White Scar. Sadly the lines went a little wonky, so I used some Iyanden Yellow (which was used to shade the blade) and slowly feathered it on to reduce the size of the smudged line. Really cool sword effect. I always struggle to paint these types of effects on weapons, usually just go with a silver. But I have been practising my glazing method on my Necron characters.
Honestly, for the middle line I either go super wonk or super chunky so to minimise obvious mess ups i usually do like 'scratches' on the centre and edge of the blade or go a little comic book style and make massive stripes to suggest a shine across the entire blade. Probably wont work as well on a rainbow sword as it does on an Orc blade so I'll have to try it out! Much love and I can't wait for the next tutorial
For the middle bit of the sword- I would think drybrushing would work here, especially if used with a metallic paint. I'm going to be taking this idea to my Storm Raven's canopy now to make a mirrored effect. Hopefully it turns out well.
Looking forward to trying this. Been a little too vanilla doing silver power swords and fancied branching out to give a little more standout on the tabletop.
love the tutorial, will give it a try. I have shakey hands and for painting straight lines I use masking tape, I know it's more work but for me it's the way I found works for me.
Your a Huge Inspiration to my Daughter! She is starting a Rainbow Warrior combat patrol thanks you ! Good luck with your channel!
That is awesome! Thanks so much both of you :D
What a great way to bond with your daughter. Enjoy!
Awwwww
Awww!!!

Her black armor video on wh+ was eye opening for me
Yeah!!
The sword was such an eye-catching, jaw-dropping detail during the RW video! Thank you so much for sharing; your teaching is so clear and really fun!
Totally not going to use this on Slaanesh models 👀
DO IT
Nah it’s better for an orky snazzhammer
Slaanesh? This is going on my Thousand Sons terminator swords
I def will be… as well as my tyranid and GSC armies. There are so many bugs and taratulas with this exact opalescent effect going on.
Heresy!!!! 😂
I might try this for some eldar power weapons
I'm also tempted to make a rainbow warrior Sergent for my deathwatch army. Your lore video turned that chapter from a meme chapter in my eyes to something pretty cool.
Keep up the great work
I can't get over just how detailed the entire paint job is.
I'm loving your channel! For my rainbow orks, I did the base with glitter mixed in clear elmer's glue. I think that would fit with your rainbow warriors
We really need a photo of those orks!
@figothikos1 I tried to reply with a link towards one but I think the automod deleted it. I dunno how I could share it
That sounds awesome!
It looks like the legendary effect in the game warhammer tacticus, Thanks!
I love how you've incorporated painting tips and techniques learned from pros adapted to your style and what your painting.
It's really great to see your personality come through on your new channel!

I love Louise for her use of technical terms, e.g. the middly bit of the sword.
Wow! That prismatic sword is shockingly good! I’m definitely going to give that a go. Thanks so much for that tutorial.
👍👍 I for one welcome our new Prismatic Overlords!
Such a cool effect, reminds me of bismuth crystals!

I had Trolls in the Pantry and Oi Dats My Leg when I was a kid. The silly songs tapes that came with them were a very special experience.
Glad to support a GW refugee!
Great painting videos that are super easy to follow.
Thank you for validating my struggle to highlight the middle edge of a sword. I feel validated.
I like the old paint bottles in the background. I have one old, hex-shaped, paint bottle with still flowing paint. That is how I learned not to lick my paint brush, whatever chemicals they added to keep the paint flowing is not for consumption. :)
I'm definitely going to try this on my Craftworlds army, I rekon it'll suit their weird magical swords perfectly!
Ty so much.
I was a bit disappointed that you first put this guide behind a Paywall. I love that sword
I've created my own home-brew chapter called the "Crystal Warriors" so will definitely give their power weapons a go using this method :-) LOVE your channel already, and can't wait to see where you take us with your awesome painting tutorials as well as your Lore videos :-D

Probably the coolest power sword I’ve ever seen
Yep, and it's not even a close thing. Absolutely magic.

Such an amazing painter and then asks for tips! I can't wait to see more of her videos!

That power sword is KILLER!!!
Omg finally a painter on youtube that pronounces Vallejo correctly.
The brushwork is like magic....
It’s the little things in life that bring peace. Taking your dog for a walk, frying up bacon, Sugs starting her own channel, etc. Awesome 🗡️!
I'm enthralled by this beauty! Oh, yeah, Louise is pretty, too. Gonna look for a mini that will get the honour of holding such a majestic sword
Releasing your background music so early was a genius move! Now watching your videos feels like "coming home" to me, when I hear it! Also: Cool sword bro! You smart!
A really nice twist on Power Weapons that I can't wait to find a place for!
Came for the tutorial, stayed and vibed to the background music
I have a suggestion!

Starting from black - what a mad lad!

@@roguehobbies love it! Good work on the new channel, legend 💪

Thank you for saying Vallejo correctly
This is the first non-Spanish speaking tutorial I have ever seen where the instructor can actually pronounce "Vallejo"! CREDS!!
Love this affect, it helps that even the model is looking at it like, "woah 🤯"
Teach me your ways magic wizard 🧙♂️
Great tut, congrats on the new channel!
For the middle edge, I drybrush it with the side of the bristle on a small (0 or 00) brush. Just build it up slowly and lightly.
Thank you so much for this tutorial, when I watched the thumbnail for your Rainbow SM the sword really caught my attention, it's so 😍
VALLEJO....she said the double L correctly...i'm tearing up a bit. THANK YOU, from all of Spain. First time in years of watching painters on youtube, someone actually pronounced it correctly. Especially for such a common brand.
Con mucho gusto!
@@roguehobbies De nada. Now i know how to paint an opal sword xD
This is an amazing effect you did there. Have you ever thought of doing this for the entire Armor of a marine? Imagine that, The Prismatic Legion Marine!
Looks amazing - will definitely be using this on my Amallyn Shadowguide's sword
The sword painted like this reminds me of the crystals that Fulgrim finds. Perfect for the Children of the Emperor.
i tend to use masking tape on both sides of the blade, only leaving the middle line and then just edge highlight it. works fine for me
you can run a strip of painters tape just off the center of the blade and use that like a ruler to guide the brush
The middle highlight looks great still! I'd love to see a Rainbow warriors Dreadnought or maybe even a Knight.
i have many many future plans for this legion...
@@roguehobbies So stoked! May your prismatic fury rain down upon your enemies.
@@roguehobbies Rainbow Brutalis Dreadnought with crystal claws *swoons*
I'm so excited for this channel's future!
That sword looks supercool! I’m not a 40K guy, but I totally want to paint my “Old World” Green Knight’s sword like that!
Music sounds like Blue Monday, I love it! Great video, Louise!
I really love how this turned out
I love the shot transitions
I admit, I'm gonna miss you from the Citadel Masterclass - your amazing techniques were great, but your charisma really made the channel. I'm gonna sliiide on over to Patreon now and...
This has just given me so much inspiration for painting my Lumineth. Great video!
honestly best rainbow warrior like your rogue like grimdark style of painting.
what an absolute mad lass, I have the feeling i'm gonna love this channel n its gonna become huuuge
I love this tutorial, I was building my voidscarred kill team and I am now going to paint all their power weapons like this
Really love your Rainbow warriors, so refreshing and fun! Its a grim pink future.
At yes my favourite paint, plaid wytch chaulk
That's a next level paint job.
Love the colour, it's gorgeous
I use titanium white oil paint to do the final edge highlights. That way any mistake can just be removed with a tiny bit of white spirits.
Super happy to see you venturing out on your own and am excited to see your awesome rainbow marines in the spotlight!
I think it looks fantastic! I might have to have a go at it myself one day.
Vibrant colors are the best colors! Thank you for making such a cool army theme come to life. The sword rocks!
That's a great effect. I think I might try it on some of my aeldari weapons
Oh thats a fun effect. I want to use that on my nurgle plague fly rider wings to give it that oil slick/fairy wing plastic from the 80s look.
100% trying this out on my Sigvald.
You have the best vibes!
Here from MWM, awesome to see you starting your own channel will definitely keep posted
For the middle bit of the sword I'd hold it upside down and paint in a downward motion. Found that's easiest way to replicate consistent straight brushstrokes.
I'm gonna be doing this technique on a force sword, let's see how that will turn out.
Looking forward to it already!
Lovely! Both the mini and the music.
Excellent video. I think I'll try it on my Ultramarines preator 👍🏻
A fantastic style for power swords! Thanks for sharing this. Definitely going to give it a try.

Loved the easter egg typos on the paint names :D
holy crap this just showed up in my recommended and this is my first video of yours! This is amazing!
Awesome video. This has turned out fantastic. Keep up the good work.
Soon as I saw this sword on the first video I knew I had to try it. Will be attempted on my Templars Sword Brethren!
Simply explained and fun to watch thanks!
Looking forward to trying this. Been a little too vanilla doing silver power swords and fancied branching out to give a little more standout on the tabletop.
Can’t wait to do this on my eldar blades!
impressive ill have to look at doing something like this for the sward of a chaos chapion or even a sorcerer. so many possibilities
Lovely colors!

That's such a unique and different way to paint power weapons, definitely something to try out. Nice work 👏.
Ohhh cool sword painting!
