I really appreciate that you mention developers and artists by name. Sometimes it can feel like games just burst fully formed from the head of Zeus, but they aren't! Especially indie games, they are made by small teams of hard-working people and they deserve to be talked about more!
Strange how I get more hyped for these indie type games than most releases from big name studios, guess it's because I've rarely been disappointed by an indie release and they feel like finished games
The Switch is an Indie Machine!!! Absolutely LOVE this game and many other Indies coming out these days!!! I just pre-ordered the Ultimate Edition coming 10/7/22. Hollow Knight,Celeste,Dead Cells, Katana Zero,Guacamelee 1+2, Eastward, Hell even Golf Story etc. We are in the center of an indie game Renaissance and I'm not Madd believe me!!!! I still LOVE almost EVERYTHING Nintendo puts out but these small studio Indie games are lit 🔥 These games are GREAT on Playstation and Xbox hell they almost positively run a bit better but on Switch they are just different!! Really special!!! I'm so glad to get to experience this time we are in. Shout out to all of these Indie Studios doing AMAZING work 👏🙀 💪
@@J.0.E. i certainly understand that with some of nintendo’s major titles on the switch (zelda breath of the wild, mario odyssey, etc.) - after all, those were the primary reasons i got a switch over a ps5 minus the stocking issues - but the plethora of great indie games were an awesome bonus for me, and i’d recommend you look into at least some of the bigger indie titles (cuphead, shovel knight, etc.) on switch. indie games are meant to be more intriguing than exciting upon first impression, and considering the large selection of titles covering a wide range of genres, there’s something for everyone (including you). either way, please don’t discount indie gaming as a whole… and if you read my entire comment, thanks for coming to my ted talk lol
I remember being disappointed when I first heard about Death's Door, simply because I thought it would never be on Switch and it's the only console I have, and because it was a game that ticked so many boxes for me. As soon as I heard it was releasing for Switch, I was excited, but a little concerned about how the performance would be. I am so glad to hear that it runs really well despite some stutters here and there. It looks and sounds gorgeous from the footage too. I've already taken the plunge on getting it (used some gold points to make it a tenner), but the reviews make me feel like I've definitely made a good choice. Thanks for the video.
I played on PC when it released. I have a Switch, too, but I wanted to play it immediately upon release and it was such a joy to play! I remember so many people asking for a Switch port as it would be a great fit for the switch community and I'm glad it finally did! More people should be playing this. Definitely my game of the year!
Had to come back and comment on this again to share something I just saw in the game that had me laughing for quite awhile. At one point while attacking an enemy I hit a nearby sign and sliced the signboard part of it in half. I'd already read the sign earlier, but went back to check it again after the fight and... only the bottom half of the text box showed, complete with only the lower half of all the letters on the sign. I looked next to the signpost (which still had the bottom half of the sign attached) and noticed the top half of the sign laying next to it. With bated breath, I checked that too, and... just the top half of the message box / text appeared! I've literally never seen half of a text box with the typed font cut in half like that before, and that level of detail in a game always amazes me. It's the sort of thing you could play the entire game and never notice, but when you do notice, it just... makes sense. The developers clearly put a ton of work into this game, and it shows!
This game is phenomenal. I played through it when it released on Xbox and it's easily one of my favourite games of this year. One of my favourites in its genre as well. I'm glad to see it running on the Switch. I hope it sells like crazy on there.
I held my breath the whole review hoping against hope that I didn't hear the word "roguelike." My fears were assuaged and I'll be picking this one up. Great review as always.
Picked this up first thing today, and have been greatly enjoying it. My one little issue is, as you mentioned, the lack of a mapping system. As a gamer living with aphantasia (the inability to create pictures in my head), having no visual map to refer to does tend to end with me getting lost more often than the average Joe. An accessibility option to toggle the map on or off would have helped a lot. But even with that issue, it's still a wonderful game. The graphics look great on my Lite, and the sound drew me in from the very beginning. Great stuff!
True SwitchUp fans always wait for the “see ya!” at the end of the review. In all seriousness though, this review has persuaded me to download the game. I actually already had one of the soundtracks on my relaxing music playlist: 36 - castle lockdown. I’ll have to check out moonlighter’s soundtrack too, now that you mentioned it in the review.
Marks voice has to be one of the most calming and relaxing voices to listen to when watching a game review, he's perfect for these kind of RUclips videos.
Yep, I always look for videos from switch up first when I'm looking for switch stuff and sigh when I have to watch someone else if they don't have a video. Best switch channel on RUclips
I’m loving how these indie developers are doing huge things with very little manpower. I’ve quickly become so much more excited about indie titles rather than AAA. 👏🏽 👏🏽

Will definitely be picking this one up over the next month or so (my a Christmas Day present to myself). I like to as for a bit of eshop credit each year, and this is why! Good job chaps, as usual.
I wouldn't call it a 2D Zelda like. The "puzzles" are very simple and repetitive. It's more like a harder, less visually appealing Hob than anything else.
This looks very nice indeed! Thanks for the review and yes, you're right about David Fenn - Moonlighter truly has one of the best soundtracks in recent memory, and this one sounds gorgeous as well!
@@SwitchUpYt I am now about halfway through Death’s Door and I really have to say that it’s a fantastic game with what is easily the best in-game music I have heard in a while. I especially loved the Furnace level, where the music is synchronised with the moving parts and it evolves as you activate them. Truly great stuff! PS: looking around for information on the developers, Acid Nerve, I was surprised to learn they are also behind Telepaint, a nice iOS game I played a while ago that also had a great soundtrack, as well as Titan Souls, which is sadly not available on Switch but is supposed to be in a shared universe of sorts with Death’s Door.

Been so excited for this game to come out. Just been waiting for confirmation that the port is good from you guys before picking it up! Keep it up guys!
I have this one on Steam and while it had "perfect for Switch" written all over it. (I trusted Devolver Digital would not find a way to fuck the port up) I was concerned about the very zoomed out perspective on the small screen in handheld mode. I imagined the crow would be reduced to some black smudgy pixels and readability in combat would be a nightmare.
I think you mean "A doff of the cap" Sorry I couldn't let that one go😁 The game looks fantastic, I can't believe I've never heard of this game before though. Thanks for the review and bringing it to my attention.

I’m getting this for sure. I hope it goes on sale for Black Friday. It was on sale last week on the Xbox store, but held off to get it on switch instead.
What!!!!! It's finally here!!!!
I really want this game but for now I'm favoring the black friday sales. Will get this down the road.
Been so excited for this game to come out. Just been waiting for confirmation that the port is good from you guys before picking it up! Keep it up guys!
I bought it when it came out on the Xbox and will definitely be double dipping for the switch. Loved this games to pieces!
Picking this up ASAP, their previous game, Titan Souls is one of my all time favourite games.
I think you mean "A doff of the cap"
Sorry I couldn't let that one go😁
The game looks fantastic, I can't believe I've never heard of this game before though.
Thanks for the review and bringing it to my attention.
