The Switch 2 reminds me of going from Gameboy Color to Gameboy Advance. Especially with backwards compatibility. One could think of Switch to Switch OLED as Gameboy to Gameboy Color.
I am going to make a prediction... Mark will go from requiring gyro controls on every first person shooter to requiring mouse controls on every first person shooter on the switch 2
The Switch 2 probably won't outsell the Switch during its lifetime, but I reckon software wise, it will be a lot better than the OG Switch. 1st party exclusives is a given, but the system will get a lot more support from 3rd party devs this time around.
@themastermind5638 The Switch 2 sales will be determined by two things. How fast Nintendo fades out the current Switch and how many Remakes will be exclusive to the Switch 2. So far, I'm hearing OOT remake, Twilight remake/remaster, Wind Waker remaster, umong other titles Nintendo might bring back to life. If Nintendo remakes OOT exclusive to the Switch 2. That game alone is going to make people go crazy. And I also know MP4 might get it's upgraded version for the Switch 2. If Nintendo doesn't fall asleep with their library of games. The Switch 2 sales will be higher than the current Switch.
No analog triggers is just dumb though. Why would they go out of their way to invent the joycon mouse and still refuse to add such a basic function? Compromising an entire genre like racing games doesn't make any sense no matter how you look at it.
@@pepincuatro2865 exactly, it's basic functionality ffs. There's an entire genre that would benefit from it, yet we get a mouse, this gen's IR sensor, that will be used in 3 or 4 games and all but forgotten by devs and users alike.
My kids are over the moon for this. And for me and my mile long backlog…thanks in part to a certain RUclips channel…that backwards compatibility was such a relief. I’m saving up for it now!
@@nicholasadamson2103 Don’t be ashamed, almost 47. I feel just like I did when the PlayStation 2 launched (had to wait until the next year. And just my luck, the model I bought was the 30001 model, which was Sony’s DDoD model [disk drive of death, look up the model number to learn more]).
Underrated comment. Nintendo isn't playing it safe at all in my book. They come into the generation with little more than a mouse and more power, adding nothing new to tech that's not already available in the market(as they always do). I place the linchpin this time on their biggest gimmick being extra 3rd party support they would receive. Call of Duty could spark Nintendo into a field they've never seen, not since the SNES, of 3rd parties no longer limited by an under-powered Switch. Baldur's Gate 3, League of legends, fallout, Cyberpunk, RDR2, Resident Evil, etc will be on a leveled field.
The one game they've shown looks like it could run on the Wii U. The miniscule power jump was understandable going from Wii U to Switch but going from switch to a bigger Switch there should be a clear power jump. I'm not asking for PS5 levels but it should still be obvious that it's a newer gen than Switch.
Literally all everyone wanted was a bigger switch with better internals and hopefully no joycon drift, i think they've achieved that. They've acheived massive success with the Switch and estsblished a large user base with NSO. So theyre not going to stray too far from that
Yes though i do worry about joycn drift as i owned both wii and wii u and the motion controller had some problems of its own with its own drift that didnt seem to be solved. That or i just so happened to have gotten few bad motion controllers
I think most people would agree the top systems to ever be made were the Super Nintendo and Playstation 2. The library of each system led to it's domination.....yet they were simple evolutions of their predecessors. The Switch 2....could be that, time will tell. If it's more powerful than the Steam Deck, can run Series S level games, and is prices competitively(under $400) It may eclipse the, now, original Switch, easily. Both Xbox and Playstation should be worried.
The main thing I REAALLY want from the Switch 2, is a voice chat compatibility for online gaming. It would make so much more sense than having to call friends on a mobile while playing co-op.
I can understand nintendo's reluctance in adding a VC to the system, but i do think they need to bring back a revamped community-based system like miiverse. Especially if more multiplayer games come to system with the Switch 2 (which will probably happen), finding or messaging people that want to play the same games you do If the invite beta test for "online capabilities" that happened a few months back was any indication, i forgot exactly what it was called, hopefully they've found a way to incorporate a better system into NSO for the switch 2.
Honestly it concerns me a lot cuz I've been continuing my games honestly and it just scares me a bit I just want to know if everything will be all right that's all 😢😢 🙏
Nintendo is still the king of the hybrid concept. The competition is following behind, and the situation might be different at the cusp of the next generation, where Nintendo might need to find a new edge to stay on top of competitors, but right now they're absolutely right in perfecting the concept and keeping the momentum. I would think the joycon connectors should be durable akin the metal rails on the og Switch. Likely part of the metal body, with a layer of connectors added to its surface. I dont think they will be bendable plastic. But that's just my speculation.
I'm quite excited for it. For me as long as it can run my Switch 1 games which struggle to hold consistent framerate on Switch 1 I'll be happy. I don't really care if it's 30 fps or 60 fps, as long as it's consistent. Two games that come to mind are Ys IX: Monstrum Nox and Pokémon Scarlet/Violet. Really fun games, but they really struggle on the Switch 1.
Pokemon struggles on Switch not because of the hardware, but because of GameFreak not giving a shit about optimizing the game properly. Nintendo didn't make the game, so it's not Nintendo's fault.
No, not in my book, it works for Apple etc. and is a very good business strategy, don't fix what's not broken. I wouldn't even be surprised if we'll be getting a Switch 3 tbh. And if I have to be honest, I kinda want that.
I would be surprised if people complained that much. A company like Apple literally sells the same type of phone year in and year out with maybe a few minor upgrades and improvements, yet there's many people that will dish out $1,000+ yearly just to "upgrade".
GC is definitely my favorite console. I remember picking one up with Resident Evil and when I got home and pop the case open, I almost started crying when I saw the mini disc's loljajaja, I thought the store scammed me. Like it was some sick joke. I said "what the f... is this.
My top 3 gaming vehicles over my life have been (in chronological order): 1. DOS-based PC and shareware games (Commander Keen, Monster Bash, Jazz Jackrabbit, Secret Agent, Sim City, Cosmo’s Cosmic Adventures, Monkey Island, Jill of the Jungle, Wacky Wheels racing) - my formative tween years. 2. PS2 - late to the party, but I bought an old console with a gazillion games for cheap and they were such great value and fun (OG God of War for the win!!) 3. Nintendo Switch - as a parent who can’t always get access to the TV and has limited time, this console has been a total godsend. That suspend state? *chef’s kiss* I’ve owned older consoles (Atari, Apple IIc/IIe), early western consoles (SEGA Master System, Megadrive), mid consoles (PC, N64, PS1, OG X-Box), whatever the next bit was (XBox 360, Wii, PS3). But they all pale in comparison to the top 3 above.
I own both a switch and a steamdeck and I'm still very excited about the S2. For me the detachable joycons are a big plus as it gives a lot of freedom in movement. Not stuck in a certain position to watch the screen or hold the controller. Steamdeck gets heavy and uncomfortable to hold after a while, I sometimes just connect my current joycon even!
The target audience for a steam deck is completely different. You still have to deal with a bunch of PC-like BS settings and the usual things real console gamers don’t like /don’t want. I’m a console gamer, I would never buy a steam deck. It does not matter how powerful the hardware is on a switch 2, Nintendo exclusives will be there and all that huge catalogue of indies will be there. Comparing the switch 2 to any portable PC continues to be the thing that the Real Nintendo fan/ console gamer is not doing.
Don't speak for me. I've been gaming since the Atari 2600. You think people like paying more for a minor increment in specs? I own all consoles, and a PC, along with a ROG Ally. As a consumer there's no way I'm giving Nintendo nor Sony anymore of my money. Nintendo will learn that emulation will burn them for being such a greedy, anti-consumer, company. I can't wait for the inevitable outcome...
@@invalidsin5665if they were really “anti consumer” they wouldn’t be so beloved so clearly you are just narrow minded and ignorant Nintendo systems likes to play into switch being special and one of a kind basically walled garden Which keeps working for them So ur blatantly false
Nintendo isn’t competing with steam deck Switch’s target audience is casuals Steamdeck’s target is hardcore elites Steam deck/other pc handhelds is for those who will spend 10000$ on a gaming pc Switch is for soccer moms and grandmas who think it’s cute Most normies know what a switch is Barely any normie knows about pc handhelds That’s where Nintendo succeeds Also steamdeck/other pc handhelds isn’t a hybrid switch is a hybrid Even if Xbox and PlayStation made their own handhelds they still wouldn’t be competing with switch because they wouldn’t be hybrids
Excellent discussion, fellas! I had a debate with a friend of mine who lives in Wales about this very topic, and he was on the side of this being "too safe", and I told him that I thought it was not only the smart decision, but the only decision Nintendo could make! Once Nintendo went with a hybrid design, there was no turning back... So with that in mind, there aren't a lot of ways for them to be their quirky unique selves when it comes to hardware. The switch 2 was always going to be a hybrid, and it was going to be called the switch 2! There's just no other course of action that they could have taken, that makes any sense at all! But with that being said, I am hugely disappointed that they stayed the course with the lame flat design of the Joy-cons, and did not make them significantly more ergonomic! That is where I will say they played way too safe! Cheers, guys!
This! The Switch isn't a handheld PC its a Nintendo console. It's simple, no messing and still has awesome games. Add the extra power/performance and it will be perfect
Ngl, y’all are probably my favorite place to get Nintendo news/information. Solid discussion and no BS; love to see it ❤! For the point of the magnetic part of the joy-cons I personally don’t think it’ll be much of an issue if you strictly use it in handheld mode all the time. I could see it being an issue if you like to dock it a lot or change out the joy-cons often.
I mean for my part, I have an xbox Series S and a Switch. I play both regularly, and Switch is my favorite system. Actually thanks to having three kids we have a whopping FIVE switches, one for my wife and I, one for the family, and a Switch Lite for each of the kids. Overboard? Absolutely. Am I apologizing? Absolutely not. And yet I am psyched and have every single intention of picking up a Switch 2.
the industry has reached the apex of where graphics make a meaningful difference in the quality of the gameplay experience. most did last gen and definitely with this generation.
The downside of having a hybrid console that can reasonably run home console games is; publishers tend to stagger the release of the portable version because - in addition to selling to a new audience - they are highly likely to entice a few double-dippers who buy just for the sake of having a portable version. I feel like this could be exploited. We saw a LOT of that on the Switch, and while it's true that some extra time was often necessary for Switch optimizations, I feel like publishers were purposely milking the situation for certain games where they know many would double-dip. Hopefully, we'll see way more day-1 releases for Switch 2.
Since they dropped the teaser for the Switch 2, I've been thinking of perhaps saving it for Christmas. Though, I still want a few more games on Switch 1 before I can smoothly upgrade.
I'm EXACTLY Nintendo's target demographic, a 40 year old who grew up with their consoles and with 2 kids under 13 who had the switch as their first console and I can't wait. All the switch needed was a moderate hardware upgrade and personally (for me) to look less like "a toy". Console generations are always won by the company that caters to casual and more hardcore gamers. There's partisan people on either side and then the majority that want to play quality games regardless of frame rates and teraflops and Nintendo just simply make quality games. We're at a point now where power will become less and less of a consideration and quality will win. Like you said in the video, "consumers" are realising the PS5 was a pointless upgrade. I'll be amazed if the Switch 2 isn't the biggest selling console ever.
I think another thing you have to mention when you say “Imagine what MonolithSoft will do with it” is also remember they created an internal physics engine for their games too, so it’s even more optimized than just the tech being better. Also another studio to look out for is Retro Studios too. I wonder if Metroid Prime 4 will have different versions or backwards compatible with a performance patch?
I'm interested to see what they do with the "mouse" functionality. I saw a video that showed that each joycon has two optical censors instead of one like a normal mouse.
I think turning the joycon into a mouse is a simple but genius idea. The PS4 controllers are my favorite so far because it has a touchpad in the middle, but I am really looking forward to seeing how well the new Joycons mouse functions work. And I hope game developers really use having two mouses for new mechanics in games
No Nintendo didn’t played it safe with Switch, i think they did what they needed to do after what happened with the Wii U, which was marketed poorly, they didn’t want another situation like that. I can’t wait to see what Nintendo can do with the Switch 2 hardware now they have significantly more power than ever before.
Though I can’t foresee buying the next Gen switch due to $$$, I would love to try the mouse controls. I think that’s enough to take it out of the “safe” zone. I miss my old days of PC gaming. I’m curious to see how that will work with games like Skyrim/Dragon’s Dogma (and maybe newer games). I do feel like the “safety” of the looks is ok though. It’s the insides that count…just like with people. :) Happy gaming and thanks!
Ironically what i miss from the steam deck is a Swich type dock. I don´t want it to cover the screen, but i want it connect automatically. The reason is that the cables from the dock that you connect manually wears out. Also its nicer with less cables. Specially when traveling.
My biggest concern is if the GPU is housed in the Dock-we might end up seeing supbar performance with third-party titles. I hope they scale it to minimum 60 FPS in both handheld and docked. Either way, I'm incredibly excited and will most likely only focus on major Nintendo games on it!
Everytime Nintendo releases a console, it is a big jump. Maybe from NES to SNES wasn't that big, but at the time it looked significant. Even the Wii U failed, but it was quite innovative with the special controller. This jump from Switch to Switch 2 is not that big, but honestly, I just wanted a better Switch with retro compatibility and that is what we will get. I am happy.
When you look at their handhelds for the most part they just went more performance each time. Gameboy to GBC added color but it was also a more powerful system, then GBA was a big step up. Ds to 3DS did add the gimmick of 3D but it really wants used that much and was much more powerful.
I want the games to look good on a 4k screen and do 60 fps i don"t care if games get ported if they look like trash on a 4k screen the new mario kart has more detail but does not look good on a 4k screen.
We don’t know what’s under the hood only the external impression, but I think yes! The joy-cons need to fit the hand much better. For innovations sake, they could’ve made it clamshell so that the bigger design becomes more ‘portable’
For me personally, the jump from N64 to Gamecube was bigger than the jump from NES to SNES. I remember being impressed by the SNES’s Mode 7 capabilities, but apart from that I felt like I was playing more colourful versions of NES games. I loved the SNES, but I don’t feel like it was an astronomical leap. Generally, Nintendo "UPGRADE" on every other release. Another way of putting it is, Nintendo always go for evolution when they’ve had great success with a console. If a console doesn’t perform very well, sales-wise, they try something new. • NES (innovation) ---> SNES (upgrade) • N64 (innovation) ---> Gamecube (upgrade) • Wii (innovation) ---> WiiU (upgrade) • Switch (innovation) ---> Switch 2 (upgrade) You COULD say the WiiU was a gimmick-based release, but not really. It was an upgraded Wii, with a handheld screen/controller. It was the start of them attempting to merge the portable and home markets. The Switch is the culmination of this. The Switch feels like the pinnacle of what they’ve been working towards for years. The Switch contains elements of every previous console (home and handheld) from their long history - i.e. d-pad (NES), shoulder buttons (SNES), analogue stick (N64), portability/carry-ability (Gamecube, all their handhelds), motion controls (Wii), touch screen (DS), ability to play on a big and small screen (WiiU). Its all there in the Switch. They definitely weren't going to change, just for the sake of changing. To expect a “revolution” this time around is silly. Nintendo are giving us exactly what we want. The ONLY thing I half-expected from them this time was a Switch kind-of machine, but more in line with the DS. Folding, with 2 screens. But still dockable.

I don't think any company can play "too safe" when releasing a brand new console. The risk is always too high. I think the only thing Nintendo is trying to do is not to shoot itself in the foot this time. Everybody is acting like Switch 2 is going to be this huge success but a lot of things could go wrong, actually.
My wishlist to the R&D team would be a better VR and light gun experience. That combined with the mouse control would make such a versatile console. I mean you could have so many genres of games that play really well. Additionally I would like better ergonomics, a better d pad, and improved ui/eshop of course.
The thing is, the Switch is the best console Nintendo has ever designed. It's a masterpiece that represents everything they've learned in their history as a company. It has the matte grey appearance of their retro consoles, with the handheld capabilities, battery optimization and touch screen of the DS line, the dual-controllers and motion controls of the Wii, and the gamepad, off-TV play, and gyroscope of the WiiU. There will come a time for them to innovate again, but that time hasn't come yet. The Switch is still dominating the market and is by no means obsolete. I just wish they had called it the "Super Switch" lol.
All I wanted from a Switch 2 was a better Switch 1 and the ability to play my Switch 1 library. Also, 100% excited for whatever Monolith Soft cooks up for Switch 2. How they managed to make XB3 run and look as good as it does on Switch is magic.
For me the mouse functionality is exciting more for games like the big MMO titles that haven't come over to console because they require a mouse. Or just making certain games like Diablo more convenient to play by having that option.
Switch is my most played console, dont see this upgrade as 'safe' just make sense. My kids are 5 and 7 and have grown up with the switch. Looking forward to their gaming ability evolving with switch 2 😂
wait until you add the external 3d screen to the top via that extra usbc connection and open up the 3ds catalog in addition to whatever else they're going to do with that port. remember the patent just a year and a half ago?
Would be cool but Nintendo patents a ton of ideas that never go anywhere. I hope it's something cool but could just be because people don't like the power input being on the bottom and gets in the way of how people hold or play while in handheld. I like the theory that it will be a screen cast function hence the C button. So while holding the Switch you cast the screen to the TV while having a new screen in your hands for map, inventory or chat etc. Basically a long distance DS.
Surprised to see you gents weigh in on this discussion but I always look forward to your thoughts. Honestly I don't look at this as playing it safe but more of improving on obvious flaws like any other console generation. It's bigger, potentially faster and graphical superior than it's predecessor and yet people call it lazy design or a beefier Switch. It's not the same Switch! We still have three months before we get more details on this thing and I think people just need to chill out until then. I'm still genuinely excited for it so here's to it's success 🍻
No, this is what they need to do for at least one more generation, gimmicks wear off quickly. It’s cool for a while then you just wish you could play a game normally. No more confusing names, it works for Sony, people understand it, 2 is the next thing after one. Just STOP!!
I wish they had included the camera from the OG Joycons and put it on both. I don't like losing features, even if they're only used in a couple games. It also would have been cool to see dual screens to allow for DS/3DS/WiiU ports, but this is otherwise what I've hoped for in a successor. I think I'm most excited just to play my Switch 1 games that could use a performance boost on this. Echoes of Wisdom could use the extra power, as could a few other games. I realize it won't improve the graphics of older games, but at least we can keep a stable frame rate.
Any way you dice this - I'm very much looking forward to it. I've had every Nintendo system since I was a child, & the Switch thoroughly impressed me. It's been one of my favorites & I can wait to see this new device perform.
'Sungrand Studios' seems to think as well as mouse functionality the Switch 2 has a camera (next to the volume controls) and a microphone notch. That would indicate the C Button in the leaks (removed in the Nintendo video) is for capture - or even a wireless connect to the dock so the Switch becomes a controller with a 2nd screen?
Thinking of ps1 to ps2, playstation adding the dual analog sticks changed aiming for so many people. I think the switch 2 adding a mouse is a gamechanger.
After almost a decade spent with the Switch I wasn't ready for Nintendo to abandon that style of gaming. Really happy to see the Switch 2 stick with that form factor and be backwards compatible. All I ever wanted in order to rock my switch for another 5+ years was a more powerful system.
I think nintendo have pitched this perfectly. They’ve given their user base exactly what they want - more power to play the best next gen games, with potentially some extra unique and innovative functionality. From a marketing perspective, naming the device “switch 2” means even the least tech savvy knows what they are getting. They’ve learnt their lesson from the ambiguity of the Wii U. Can’t wait to get mine.
I was actually surprised by the people who wanted something different. It's exactly what I expected/hoped because the Switch is 1) Nintendo's most successful console 2) a hybrid console which suits Nintendo's audience of home and handheld gamers, and 3) their most recent console in a era where bringing your current games with you is the expected norm, and building off of your previous gen is where the industry is at right now. Doing a crazy idea would actually lose more players than it would gain.
I hope they will have more VR games on the 2witch. I've recently gone back to BOTW to play it in VR. It's a shame that the only thing left to do is collect Korok seeds, but it's still a really enjoyable immersive 3D experience playing with a VR headset. Graphics are blocky, but I don't mind that. I wish I had more VR-compatible games.
With how successful the Switch has been Nintendo didn't have to do anything crazy. More power, QOL upgrades and backwards compatibility was all they really needed and that appears to be exactly what the Switch 2 is. Very excited to see the exclusive titles.
Will see what games release initially but think I might opt for the steam deck instead this time. So many indie games on steam are more expensive on switch, plus I have such a big backlog to still get through in the switch 1 😅
NES to SNES, SNES to N64, N64 to GameCube were all satisfying performance upgrades and exceeded the competition's offerings at the time. Having three prongs to accomodate a thumb stick but preserve the feel of a dpad+face buttons layout or piracy proof discs doesn't make them a GameCube to Wii transition. It was Iwata that lead Nintendo in a different direction, their most profitable era, and the Nintendo Switch.
I wouldn’t discount VR on the Switch 2. This is still small enough to fit into a specifically designed headset. Just requires the power to provide two images at a good enough resolution and frame rate.
Its a perfect case of if its not broken, dont fix it. i love everything about the original switch and I am very happy that they did only enhancing the original look a bit and just upgraded the hardware. But one thing I am really hoping is that they will go hall effect analog stick to avoid those nasty stick drifts.
Now is the time for easy and imagination inducing development tools to maximize creativity in design. Of which Sony and Xbox have more than a general lack specially with their focus of realism and DEI agendas over gameplay.
The form factor is fine! All I was hoping for was more power to allow for cross-platform games to be playable (and even for sequels of great games that currently can’t run on the original Switch, like Remnant 2 and especially Everspace 2!). Fix the Joycon drift, allow for backwards compatibility and make high-capacity cartridges standard. Do all of that, and I’ll pay up to $400.00 USD. The Switch 2 has done one thing for me already - I’ve resumed building my Switch game collection instead of buying Steam and GOG games again! I bought physical versions of Tales of Graces F Remastered, and I’m updating my copy of Borderlands 3 as I type this. I need to catch up with SwitchUp episodes…
I think they're being wise. The Switch was a blazing success. Now we're getting a stronger Switch that hopefully will run new games at release rather than a year or two later and then only after significant downgrades so they'll run. I'm a Switch fan through and through, but I'm ready to see what the Switch 2 is really capable of.
It's silly to make predictions about this stuff at the moment... considering we know next to nothing about it. All that's been confirmed is that it's bigger then the last one
The only console I own is the Switch Lite. and the joycon stick (dnt know wht it's called 😅) is starting to act up 😭 It's drifting and sometimes it's difficult to move my character around. Sometimes it works great and other days it's a little annoying. I even had to stop playing my Switch Lite for awhile 😖 I literally play it every single day for hours at a time. I'm afraid to take it apart and put in a new joycon stick. So I really really hope the Switch 2 doesn't have any issues with tht. I won't be buying the Switch 2 for a good while bcuz I still want to get a regular Switch or an OLED. The type of games I play aren't too demanding so I dnt have an issue with frame rates or anything like tht. Bt eventually I'll get a Switch 2 since they said there will be games exclusively for tht console. and obviously having better hardware than the Switch and a bigger screen is really nice.
To be fair guys, the PS5 upgrade was, and still is, held back by the constant need for developers to make PS4 versions of new games, possibly driven by the shambles of availability following release. Let’s hope Switch 2 doesn’t suffer the same fate in the name of backwards compatibility. Me, I’m just not excited by Switch 2 yet.
I am SO DAMNED EXCITED for Switch 2! Switch is my fave console EVER! Plus, the Direct comes out the day before my bday, so EVEN BETTER! lol. My ONLY concerns are, 1) if it's not OLED, I'm not interested (I LOVE my OLED and can't go back! X'D), and 2) I hope it won't be too big for my tiny baby hands! lol.

The Switch 2 probably won't outsell the Switch during its lifetime, but I reckon software wise, it will be a lot better than the OG Switch. 1st party exclusives is a given, but the system will get a lot more support from 3rd party devs this time around.
I have a feeling we will be eating good every year for the Switch 2 1st and 3rd party wise so I don't think we will get a software drought.
@@ExaltedDonut half of the original switch 1st party software was Wii U ports
Won't be any software droughts, Newegg already leaked listings for an Zelda and Mario 'Remaster' for Switch 2, so can expect a few of those at least.
Don't fix what isn't broken, well excepy joycon drifting...
They wisely learned their lesson from Wii U.
EXACTLY
I'd consider OLED, a proper d-pad and analogue triggers the bare minimum in the year of our Lord 2025, yet, here we are...
No analog triggers is just dumb though. Why would they go out of their way to invent the joycon mouse and still refuse to add such a basic function? Compromising an entire genre like racing games doesn't make any sense no matter how you look at it.
@@pepincuatro2865 Digital triggers are better for every other type of game. Why would you design a controller around a single genre of game?
@@pepincuatro2865 exactly, it's basic functionality ffs. There's an entire genre that would benefit from it, yet we get a mouse, this gen's IR sensor, that will be used in 3 or 4 games and all but forgotten by devs and users alike.
My kids are over the moon for this.
And for me and my mile long backlog…thanks in part to a certain RUclips channel…that backwards compatibility was such a relief. I’m saving up for it now!
I'm 41 and I'm over the moon for it.
End of the day the games will be what carries the system. Ppl don't realise how insane PS4 level power in the hands of Nintendo is.
Short answer to the title. No. Nintendo does not want to compete in hardware, they just want to make good games for good money.
Exactly
Yep that’s the answer we’ve come to as well :D - Mark
The one game they've shown looks like it could run on the Wii U. The miniscule power jump was understandable going from Wii U to Switch but going from switch to a bigger Switch there should be a clear power jump.
I'm not asking for PS5 levels but it should still be obvious that it's a newer gen than Switch.
But that's playing it safe by default?
@@nintendofannot4898 There’s a difference between playing it safe (and the smart choice) and it being TOO safe (and an issue) IMO. Mark
Literally all everyone wanted was a bigger switch with better internals and hopefully no joycon drift, i think they've achieved that. They've acheived massive success with the Switch and estsblished a large user base with NSO. So theyre not going to stray too far from that
Yep, all I wanted was a bigger, better, more powerful Switch, and that's what Nintendo are doing. I can't wait to get mine.
@kdkseven same!!
Yes though i do worry about joycn drift as i owned both wii and wii u and the motion controller had some problems of its own with its own drift that didnt seem to be solved. That or i just so happened to have gotten few bad motion controllers
@@alluringming let's just hope they figured it out this time around🙏🏾🙏🏾
@alluringming the switch 2 uses hall effect sensors in the new joycons so you won't have drift issues. (From same source that had factory leaks)
As a new Switch owner I am super hyped, though I’ll likely wait for the inevitable mid-gen refresh. Hoping for a Switch 2 OLED not too long from now!
I think most people would agree the top systems to ever be made were the Super Nintendo and Playstation 2.
The library of each system led to it's domination.....yet they were simple evolutions of their predecessors.
The Switch 2....could be that, time will tell.
If it's more powerful than the Steam Deck, can run Series S level games, and is prices competitively(under $400)
It may eclipse the, now, original Switch, easily.
Especially if more multiplayer games come to system with the Switch 2 (which will probably happen), finding or messaging people that want to play the same games you do
If the invite beta test for "online capabilities" that happened a few months back was any indication, i forgot exactly what it was called, hopefully they've found a way to incorporate a better system into NSO for the switch 2.
I hope they release a "Lite" version because the bigger screen doesn't cut it for me. No portability with an 8 inch screen
While Pokémon may struggle on Switch, I would put most of that being up to lack of optimization on GF's part.
Yeah, a bit more torque for snowrunner might help too. Love that game, but it can laaaaaag sometimes. Like single digit fps for a second or two.
Pokemon struggles on Switch not because of the hardware, but because of GameFreak not giving a shit about optimizing the game properly. Nintendo didn't make the game, so it's not Nintendo's fault.
This is exactly what I wanted, just hope we don’t loose the oled.
Only the fools are still buying the sh*** "new" Iphone every years.
No this is what refinement looks like. It will be awesome.

Wii to Wii U Graphic is underrated
My top 3 gaming vehicles over my life have been (in chronological order):
1. DOS-based PC and shareware games (Commander Keen, Monster Bash, Jazz Jackrabbit, Secret Agent, Sim City, Cosmo’s Cosmic Adventures, Monkey Island, Jill of the Jungle, Wacky Wheels racing) - my formative tween years.
2. PS2 - late to the party, but I bought an old console with a gazillion games for cheap and they were such great value and fun (OG God of War for the win!!)
3. Nintendo Switch - as a parent who can’t always get access to the TV and has limited time, this console has been a total godsend. That suspend state? *chef’s kiss*
I’ve owned older consoles (Atari, Apple IIc/IIe), early western consoles (SEGA Master System, Megadrive), mid consoles (PC, N64, PS1, OG X-Box), whatever the next bit was (XBox 360, Wii, PS3).
I’ll be grabbing one in five years’ time - Switch backlog is insanely massive atm plus I love the Oled 👌
@@invalidsin5665if they were really “anti consumer” they wouldn’t be so beloved so clearly you are just narrow minded and ignorant
Nintendo systems likes to play into switch being special and one of a kind basically walled garden
Which keeps working for them
So ur blatantly false
Nintendo isn’t competing with steam deck
Switch’s target audience is casuals
Steamdeck’s target is hardcore elites
Steam deck/other pc handhelds is for those who will spend 10000$ on a gaming pc
Switch is for soccer moms and grandmas who think it’s cute
Most normies know what a switch is
Barely any normie knows about pc handhelds
That’s where Nintendo succeeds
Also steamdeck/other pc handhelds isn’t a hybrid switch is a hybrid
Even if Xbox and PlayStation made their own handhelds they still wouldn’t be competing with switch because they wouldn’t be hybrids

A steam deck is for tinkering. A switch is for playing nintendo games. Its why i have both.
Honestly, it just looks good and it has the retrocompatibility I really wished for. Sold.
🍎 & 🍊 consoles & handhelds
When graphics are too intricate it actually gets distracting for me.
Love the new style video, guys!
I’m so excited, I can’t wait till I get one in my hands 🙌
Great video lads, love the discussion on it
Much appreciated
A new video about Switch 2 is always great coming from you!
That magnetic attachment is extremely innovative and unique.
Keep the videos going guys i dont mind more switch 2 videos until that April direct 👌🏾
I am happy.
I want a new F-Zero
Me too! And in the meantime, I want to play F-Zero GX on the Switch 2.
Didn't get the Switch1, so S2 being the same form and can play the same games is more appealing to me.
• NES (innovation) ---> SNES (upgrade)
• N64 (innovation) ---> Gamecube (upgrade)
• Wii (innovation) ---> WiiU (upgrade)
• Switch (innovation) ---> Switch 2 (upgrade)
You COULD say the WiiU was a gimmick-based release, but not really.
Not for me I cannot wait to get it. Switch is amazing and I’m sure Switch 2 will be even better
It’s already a perfectly awesome system - upgrading the hardware is only going to be a cherry on top 😊❤
FR
For me the mouse functionality is exciting more for games like the big MMO titles that haven't come over to console because they require a mouse. Or just making certain games like Diablo more convenient to play by having that option.
I am liking what I am seeing, a bit nervous on the magnetize controls.
It's the switch pro. They called it the switch 2 which imo means more should be coming from this then just a pro model vibe it's giving off now
100% agree
Yeah, as long as I can get it for less than 50 buck, I may consider it.
Great video guys, regards from Guatemala
Why change perfection! Switch 2 looks incredible
I'm turning 35 this year, I play not because of the graphics. I play to relax and unwind during my free time.
I can’t wait for it, I hope I can get two of them at launch
I'm glad they did play it safe and I don't think they did it too much
I was actually surprised by the people who wanted something different.
The biggest improvement from last gen to current gen for PS & XBox is load times.
I just want a better Switch and so far that’s what I’m getting from the reveal.
I wouldn’t discount VR on the Switch 2. This is still small enough to fit into a specifically designed headset. Just requires the power to provide two images at a good enough resolution and frame rate.
Feels like Nintendo are giving fans what they want. Which is never a bad thing
Its a perfect case of if its not broken, dont fix it. i love everything about the original switch and I am very happy that they did only enhancing the original look a bit and just upgraded the hardware. But one thing I am really hoping is that they will go hall effect analog stick to avoid those nasty stick drifts.
Im so happy its called Switch 2. so there is no confusion in the future with your channel named SwitchUp
maybe they need to "switch" it up
“Super Switch” would’ve sufficed.
Yeah it’s certainly making it easier for us haha - Mark
@@Woobuggy848No it wouldn’t. It would’ve just been the Wii U all over again.
Could listen to you guys chew the fat all day - great video! Day 1 buy for me
One of the smarter takes on the switch. Love it. I’m ready for an adapter so I can use the controller with cad /silly
Could go down as thee most unimpressive, boring, and overpriced console ever made... yet, we'll still get it lol
Well, I told a lie.. I said when asked will I pre order one? The answer was No.. But I’m so pre ordering when available lol. Can’t wait….
Fair enough mate - I think the limiting factor now for Switch isn’t the games but is the hardware - I can’t wait to see what we get. Mark
X'D), and 2) I hope it won't be too big for my tiny baby hands! lol.
