Awesome mate, thank you, I've not long bought the 2nd gen cube, dunno whether to get the 3rd, doesn't seem a lot of difference in em really, might just wait for a sale
Nice video. I was wondering why you have the 4 device set to always HDR? In my experience on the 4k Max and apple tv 4k second gen it forces non HDR content to have a sort of fake HDR and looks weird plus all the menu's on the 4k Max look weird also. When you switched to the PS5 on the fire cube 3rd gen and the switched back to the 3rd gen cub and Dolby Vision turned on the it just looked weird with it always on. You should turn on adaptive HDR and your tv won't look weird, but you'll still get Dolby Vision when the content you're watching supports it.
Yes I noticed that too. It made colours look terrible with skin tones in particular looking greyish and vastly reduces brightness for sdr content. Any time content is hdr the adaptive setting switches when appropriate so I don't see the point in the always on setting but nice to have the option to override if people want it set thst way.
Very nice and thorough review. an idea for future video would be comparing the upscaling feature on the cube 3 I know I would love to see a video about that. Thanks for making this content.
I currently have the fire cube 2nd gen and going to upgrade to the 3rd gen because it is on a black friday presale and I also I love having the latest tech lol. I did try the fire tv 4k max and sent it back. Just didn't like it. Felt it was sluggish at times. Almost like getting too hot. Some times not taking the remote commands properly. Gonna stick with the Cube. Good review thou!
7:01 i just bought a firetv cube 3rd. how do you get detected audio capabilities all of them as “yes” I get all “No” when I select this option. Another question? Is firetv cube 3rd compatible with alexa home theater?, mine doesn’t let me create one. It says device not compatible when its amazon page states it is compatible (using echo speakers 4th generation)
I haven't tried anything with that. Typically ARC/EARC is when the TV source itself is outputting the sound to an external speaker (soundbar) or a compatible AV receiver. If this fire tv cube connects to an HDMI input of a sound bar and the HDMI output of the sound bar goes to the TV. Then it wouldn't be ARC or EARC, it just be audio going directly to the sound bar which should work.
@@landpet I have the 2nd gen fire cube and my sound bar is connected to the TV with an HDMI cable through eARC and I still get the sound cutting off periodically, my soundbar is connected to a Surround Sound System though so maybe that is the issue
Question for all. I have 10-15M max for my internet. I use a Home base unit from AT&T I turned off the WIFI and added a Rock Space AC 1200 Mesh unit and use that as Router and nodes. Node 2 sits by the TV. so.. If I get Gen 2 or 3 will plugging into it with lan port be any better than just using the WIFI? I did notice a large drop in quality using the TV wifi which is 2,4 Ghz vs the 5 from the current 4K fire stick. In the past without the Rick space the 2.4 TV was actually better. I tried plugging into lan on TV and it did nothing. That is why I am asking about the Gen 2 or 3 if it would help. or.. just stick with my 4K stick (not Max).. Thoughts
Hmmmm, my guess would be not much of an internet speed improvement (assuming node 2 is using wireless backhaul to the main router). Probably going to be a smoother interface when scrolling since your internet speeds aren’t fast. That’s just my guess
@@landpet Thanks, I guess the real Q would be better to upgrade to the 2 or 3 gen from the firestick 4K in this situation. My thought was connecting to the lan port on the node by TV vs WIFI or again it probably does not matter since node is sitting right next to unit. Thanks
@@Wiscwin1 As far as internet speed performance in your situation based on what you mentioned, there is no difference between the two, whether you connect via LAN or WiFi. Since LAN is limited to 100Mbps on both and your speeds are slower than that. As far as WiFi, the 2nd Gen is using Wireless AC which is what your router is, the 3rd gen has better wifi speeds but again in your situation, I don't think it will be anything noticeable.
Point of Clarification: Fire TV 4K Max Gen 2 Specs Internally, the Fire TV Stick 4K Max has a 2.0GHz processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of storage, and Wi-Fi 6E. As of May 14, 2024, among the curent Apple TV 4K 128 Gb , the current Roku Ultra and 4K Stick, and the Fire TV devices only the Fire TV Cube Gen 3 and Fire TV Stick 4K Max Gen 2 supports Wifi 6e. While the Apple TV 4K 128Gb, Roku Ultra, and Fire TV Cube directly support ethernet only Apple's port takes full advantage of your network's speed. Note than 4K shows need only about 15~20 Mhz.
I upgraded from the 4K Max to this new Cube. It loads slightly faster, the picture is slightly better. I have no use for Alexa as I have two echo dots for this. So this nullifies the Cube for this function. I don't have Sky or Virgin boxes (UK paid subscriptions) so don't need a HDMI attached from those to the Cube. I am definitely not connecting a console to it. So there is actually no point of the Cube for those on the 4K Max which I am going back to.
Thanks for the feedback. Cube does also have better wifi speeds assuming you have a wifi 6e router but it may not make any difference there either as you don't need crazy fast speeds to enjoy streaming
@@griff3n69 if u have no other Amazon devices, it is probably useful as it can double up as Alexa. It is slightly faster by a few seconds- that is just from my own user experience. You have to ask yourself, in what way will it improve what you can already do with your 4K Max firestick. I feel no difference between the two. Having said that, see if u can trade it in. I have the problem with fire stick 4K . Every time when I turn on my tv , my fire stick is on 1080p I have to change everything day to 4K resolution any ideas?
Is it on automatic? I wouldn't have thought it should change itself as mine doesn't. The only thing I can think of is if Internet connection wasn't capable and it changing by itself but even then I don't know if it would change that setting and may just temporarily kick itself down when playing certain content.
