Matthew Heal come back in 3 days and look at the view count. That's what drives it, not the comments. If this video has 150k views in 3 days, it was a good idea. If it has 75k views, it was a waste of time. No matter how many thumbs up your comment gets.
this is a top 5 or 10 video. Owner was super cool, car impressed Matt, and it`s something just about anyone can do. Matt your a badass keep`em coming!!
This has to be my favorite of all of this channel's videos. Taking a regular car and modding it to one's liking with genuine passion is what tuning should be about.
I think the reason people are missing the handshake is because Matt introduces the owner of the car and simultaneously puts his hand towards him... the owner thinks he's just being "pointed at" and is being introduced.
Matt, thank you for featuring cars like this. Many people are oversaturated by the sheer numbers that modern cars produce that they don't "get" driving a slow car that can be driven at over 90% all the time. I'm sure you drive tons of cars where you don't even take to 40% of their limits on these roads, and yet you're having much more smiles and enthusiasm in this car than in 600hp M cars.
The Toyota Corolla was the the car that Toyota could have done so much with. 2.0-2.5 turbo engine with AWD, lowered a bit, and given TRD suspension and we have a fun car. Power could have been anywhere between 250-300hp. Glad to see vids like this b/c sleepers have always been my favorite cars. I also turned a 12v VR6 1995 Jetta into quite a fun sleeper to drive myself.
I've been watching the "OneTake" series for a long time and i can say honestly that i have not seen Matt so pumped up and smiling like this, and its over a Corolla! (No hate, all love) Awesome video! glad to see the enthusiasm for the underdog cars you would otherwise never get to hear about.
Got about 170 horses in my bone stock '04 Camry, super fun to get on since you don't really have enough to get in trouble lol. Has just enough power to be fun but not enough to break it loose. Dead nuts reliable for daily too. Love that car
Jay Bastawrose corollas from 03 up to today almost have the same chassis. the old corollas are really low but as far as I remember those really old corollas doesn't have sway bars in the front. not sure about the 99 - 02s.
Watching this with my XRS parked outside. Mine's completely stock, but these little cars do have a lot of potential. My biggest problem with it is that you sit too high(nothing a racing seat can't fix) and it requires a lot of steering input. Other than that, understeer is pretty much non-existent, it feels nimble and light, and it loves to change direction.
jorom90 what year? I had an '05. I was able to keep up with my buddy's stage 3 WRX in the twisties, and that was in stock form. I miss that car so, so much.
I had an 06 in 2015 and I just got this 05 a couple months ago. Both black and completely stock. Yup, it's surprisingly nimble and loves to change direction. I kept up with a modified S2000 a few days ago - granted he didn't seem like that good of a driver. He could've definitely pushed it harder. Honestly, I expected to be left in the dust though. I wonder what he was thinking when he couldn't shake a little Corolla..haha
jorom90 black with sunroof! I looked for one after seeing an '09 parked in front of my old workplace. Didn't know what the weird XRS badge meant. Looked it up and saw 2ZZ-GE under the hood of the '05 / '06 and instantly knew it was for me! That thing had a higher cam lobe engagement point than my Honda's VTEC, but it seemed to kick harder. I loved that the only way to tell it apart from the regular Corolla was the wheels. Everything else looked so pedestrian. Great "sleeper" car.
Neither of mine had sunroof. The 09 just has the Camry engine, right? I can't remember how I heard about it, but I was looking for either a Celica GTS, a Matrix XRS, and the Corolla. I ended up finding a Corolla in both occasions haha. What Honda did you have? That is the biggest difference other than the obvious XRS badge. It's also half an inch lower than the S model and the grill is blacked out.
jorom90 yeah, I'm pretty sure that the only models to use the 2ZZ-GE were the 05 and 06. Mine was also a Canadian-built model. As for the Honda, it's the car I currently own, which is an 05 RSX type S. I love the K20Z1, and my DC5 would probably beat the XRS, but there's just something about those XRS engines in that chassis that worked really well.
I daily Drive a 2003 Corolla “S” since it was new, now with approx 487000 miles, odometer stopped at 299,999, ironically, they all do...They are a great little car! Not loose at all.Original front end except struts Brakes, and wheel bearings.
Ha! Met this guy Matt a few weeks ago at an AutoX event @ El Toro in Irvine. Took a lap in this thing it pulls like crazy and handled the course quite well. First lap out without even walking the track he put down one of the fastest laps.
backfiring is always "programmed" in that the tune allows it to happen. you can tune it out too. Stock cars can even backfire, my girlfriend's cobalt with a shitty rusted away exhaust pipe backfires on decel.
Smile the whole time watching this vid. Love seeing average cara modded as well as cool average people just enjoying themselves. The internet will bash him and say he's a ricer but I respect this 100% seems like a very fun car!
Shaun Seah from what I found the only years a supercharger was made for was 03 and 04, and the kit cost as much as the car, I honestly think it might be easier to just find a cheap Integra and throw an eBay turbo on it, blow it up, and then drop some other honda engine in it and turbo that.
I own a stock version of this car. I'm actually amazed by the performance of the 1zzfe Corolla. It is a very understated mover, and as one that thrives on rwd raw power and old school land barge vehicles, I'm never going to lose this car. I'm gonna make it a stock looking, pavement eating and soul stealing monster of a neck breaking sleeper
lol this video is perfect. I own an mkiv supra 700whp, but I also own a 2003 corolla. I feel like I need to mod mine now. I love driving it. It feels so solid with the same toyota magic that my supra has; it's just a fraction of the power. the vvti rips though. I often ponder what it would be like to turbo it. I didn't even know you could get suprachargers for the 1zz...... hngggggggg.
Have to admit , great video. What's more impressive is the seemingly ubiquitous love for this spunky yet unassuming Corolla. Maybe Matt Farah should add one to his stable.
Don't think so. There's a video on Drive+ but I'm not going to subscribe to a channel where nothing has been uploaded in year. Perhaps they shoudl release all those videos up on normal Drive or here instead.
There is a reason no one has asked if you could driver their Pontiac Vibe. After being a 2 year Vibe owner my happiest experience with the car was getting it totalled in a rear end accident
From 6:35-6:40 Epic rev drop on the drive by! The doppler effect as the car passes the camera lines up perfectly with the upshift, and the resultant combined drop in the audible pitch of the engine is unusually wide (musical interval approx between a Major 6th and minor 7th instead of the usual minor or Major 3rd). Best drive by audio on a one-take!
I knew from thumbnail this was going to be classic. I love these more than the high dollar cars, respect. I know Matt has to get the views so it's cool. Let's pump this one up to get another special normal car build.
Brian Messemer Of course I am right I am the truth seeker haha..seriously I have the same zze122 engine in my car and it certainly does not sound like that..the supercharger etc really makes a difference.
I like boring cars that are made fun and cool
Same here.
+Stormyy they r the best
Still have fum!
Ohhhh yeaaahhh!
Tbrick563 the 2zzge in these are no joke
Was that supercharger wine coming from a corolla.?
Yes yes it was. and it was glorious.
Nah, just an exhaust leak :-P
Raven you do know their are old corollas with a 4age supercharge from stock right? And this car share the same engine has the lotus and new mr2
There exists a corolla that had a supercharged 2zz from stock. But as far as I'm aware it was only sold in limited quantity to the european market
@@gumis123PL Yep, the T-sport Compressor :-)
Just like the Lotuses!
Only a true car guy will click on these kind of videos
d16y74life I agree.😉
I clicked this video because I own a Corolla.

Hell yeah, currently researching for my 08 5spd corolla

Saw the word "Corolla" and immediately clicked on the video

I love my little '94, things a go-kart lol

This car is awesome. I love seeing cheap or slow cars turned into something special.
Soon going to be my Toyota L Tourning Wagon.
Yess Please Matt more videos of average cars highly modified!
I second this!
I think your doing the word average a disservice :)

...And apparently they have never once watched a One Take, because he follows the same routine with the hand shake in every single episode.

Matt this was one of your most enjoyable videos! Owner is cool as hell too... "you gotta make it shoot fireballs" haha. More oddballs please!

You didn't watch the video then. Those were his spare wheels.
Randy Illanas The taillights are Corolla Altis lights, which are on jdm corollas. He has them tinted but otherwise they are better than stock.

Lol. Matt says it's a REAL backfire not programmed, owner immediately tells him it's tuned that way. 😂
backfiring is always "programmed" in that the tune allows it to happen. you can tune it out too. Stock cars can even backfire, my girlfriend's cobalt with a shitty rusted away exhaust pipe backfires on decel.
I think he meant something like the f-type where they pump extra fuel to the exhaust to make it backfire.
Hell, even my N/A Impreza will make some pops when blipping it to downshift.
I thought the owner said it's tuned to spit flames when bouncing off the limiter.
