I'm an avid Roland VG-99 V-Guitar player, and I somehow missed this product launch entirely! This demo was indeed the best guitar demo I've ever seen. This makes me hopeful that they may finally release a VG-99 successor that builds on this foundation.

Fun stuff. I run MIDI Guitar 2 on my iPad for such shenanigans, best Pitch to MIDI app out there. Tracks well with fastish playing, bends, slides, etc.
Wish there was more love for Boss. I shouldn't feel sorry for them...but they are really good pedals and AFFORDABLE!!!

I love my sy300, it does most of the sounds Im hearing here - the layering function works pretty good, the 3 oscillators let me have a hold functioon, 32 steps sequencing [if i wanted to program it a bit more i can do that]. Also, sus4 chords using the synth on the sy300 do get a bit 'warble-y', depending on the chord im doing. wonder if this problem is improved on the sy1000.
I guess with a 13 pin gk cable, itll be more precise. prob gonna stick with my 300, least as long as the software supports it for editing and patch sharing. I'm wondering though, are there more waveforms on the 1000, Im sure theres probably more effects, at least. more amp/cab simulations, Im sure. The sy300 amp sim is well, theres only one. I currently just tweak eq and compression and other levels to make it more 'sim-y'.
Ooh, theres another question I just thought of, can sy1000 patches be shared online via the v-guitar forums, to sy300 owners. hmmm...
some of those rush and van halen tones were cool...might be a good tool for writing and recording

This also replaces the Roland V-Guitar, since it does everything that did too. Alt. tunings, guitar models, even the GR-300 emulation, so you can crank out some Pat Metheny or King Crimson hex fuzz goodness too. You don't even need to use the synth side if you don't want to.
Not quite - there are some modeling tricks that this does not do, specifically with allowing detuning and 12-string in more than just electric and acoustic sounds. That said, this does make me want to pick it up and play with it. I wonder how well it would integrate with an FC-300. Since the VG-99 has native integration and this requires the FC to act as a dumb MIDI controller, I would expect it to not be as clean.

That was pretty darn epic and fun. Although, the sounds still sound kind of dead to me. Definitely gotta try one, as I have an older model, and it's cool to be creative on these.
Keep in mind this was recorded in a live demo situation, so a real recording would probably have some EQ applied and a touch of reverb for "fatness."

The GP-10 did a lot of this and nobody paid attention. Boss brought out another SY pedal and i didn't pay attention. Then i saw the GK socket and read the manual, now I'm selling my kidneys.

I'm guessing the lopper has the backing track and he already has all the patches set up in the right order and he's just going through them.
probably using DAW with midi command (set to change patches) connected to the SY 1000.
@@CLaw-tb5gg I can never get the timing down right when I'm using a lopper. I guess I just need more practice lopping. Did you ever see that move called Lopper with Bruce Willis? It was pretty good. Have you ever heard of the singer from the 80's Cindy Looper?

I do not know how this is better than a VG-99. It only seems to be that VG-99 is no longer in production, so try this. I was hoping there was some improvement in the sound engine, but that was not demonstrated. At least his glasses are latest and greatest, maybe.

Technologically very impressive, and the guy's great, but not my thing, sounds lifeless to me. Will certainly have a place for many though.

I could be wrong but maybe there's a bit more tracking latency with some patches? Or the glissando effect was messing with his rhythm a little or something. I don't think it was air guitar'd though.

I like guitar synths. I really do. It’s amazing how technology advances in sounds but yet we still have to deal with that monstrosity of a pickup attached to the guitar.... (I know there are options without the attached pickup system or the Roland ready strat. I just think the aesthetics can be improved on.... it wasn’t a good look when I first saw it 30 plus years ago....and it hasn’t evolved).

@@mcbrodz1663 If you just want to play some synth sounds from a guitar, the SY-1000 is overkill both on price and capabilities. The vid here really didn't get into all the details of what an SY-1000 can do.
1: The SY-1000 has 3 synth modes that can be used separately or combined together, so it's effectively 3 different synth pedals in one box.
2: Multi-effects with amp modelling (150 effects and 31 different amp models according the tech specs for the SY-1000).
3: Guitar and bass modelling. 12 different electric guitar models, 9 different acoustic guitar models, 10 different electric bass models. 1 acoustic bass model.
4: Alternate tunings using pitch shifting on individual strings IF you use a GK pickup.
5: 200 user programmable patches.
If you just want to tinker with some synth sounds from a guitar, there are alternative pedals for a much lower price (look at some vids for the Meris Enzo pedal, an awesome synth pedal that works with a normal guitar connection) but if you want an integrated system that puts a whole lot of features into one box, especially for gigging where you want to keep your gear minimal to set up, use and pack up, the SY-1000 does a lot of things that you really can't find anywhere else. The Roland GR-55 is a close second but cannot be used without a GK pickup, the SY-1000 can be used without a GK pickup but the guitar modelling and alternate tuning abilities need a GK pickup.
As for the GK pickup, I have one, it's an ugly lump, but there is a kit version that can be built into the body or pickguard of a guitar, GK-KIT-GT3 for guitars, GK-KIT-BG3 for basses.
