Hey guys, I’m Rabea. I'm the lead guitarist in Toska, Frog Leap & Dorje where I write music, make songs and have a great time with my mates. There's no way I could afford one of these (and that's before you get to the pick-up you need) but I keep coming back so I can enjoy the experience, vicariously.

I dropped well over a grand on the VG99 back in the day and loved it; this is actually more for less. Kudos, Boss/Roland!

Super awesome. The learning curve has always been an issue with these products. It is like having a studio in a box and no engineer sometimes. Glad to hear that is is quick to be used out of the box.

Great job of showing the real life experience of playing guitar synth, Rabea. No promo can possibly come close to what you’re showing here, the experimentation, the off-the-wall capabilities, the discovered musicality. It’s not for everyone but it was definitely for me starting with the ARP Avatar in 1979, which was far more basic, essentially a monophonic 2600 for guitar. The sound I was able to get using that and, particularly, the hex fuzz transformed my band at the time and became a basic building block for our writing. Back then, those sounds from a guitar were sorta jaw-dropping - not so much anymore.
Rabea at 12:10 and 15:34 is the most important part of this video. Glee like this shows the magic of these kinds of tools. Very enjoyable to watch!

One of the best parts of this video is the fact that the auto generated captions mistake some of the playing in the intro for applause

Just like with my other pedals, I have to make my own personal reference list of settings or presets that I like. However, you do have to take the time to go through the entire pedal. I had a lot of fun going through all of the effects in the SY-1000. I can play guitar better than I can play a midi keyboard, so this pedal has really upped my options for music creation and recording.
Hats off to Boss! The communication between the players fingers and the processor is almost as if he thought it and it was there before his fingers blessed the fretboard! Im going to buy one of these and take it to my camp with me this year aand blow peoples fucking minds with it!

This is why Boss is way ahead of the market. I so old school. im still trying to get my Katana Air to connect with my android!
I had the same problem! Firstly, I found the main issue with the Air was WiFi interference. So, try turning your wifi off to see if that helps first. You can move your amp then. Secondly, disconnect the Bluetooth 'audio' and connect to the 'midi' first. Then try connecting to the audio. Pain in the ass, but sounds great when you get it working.

I had the Gr300 system, back in 1981 or 82. This thing sounds great. I guess I'll have to make do with the SY1, for now, though. BtW, does that guy come with it? That would be great.

On order :) Yay, not cheap, but it has all the modeling and fx built in as well as the alt tunings, synths and sequencers etc etc. A lot of bang for the buck. I'm paralleling this up with my old GR-55 (to get the strings essentially)… should be fun.

I have an old Boss Drum Machine where you can adjust pitch, timings, strange sounds, volume, frequency, ect. This guitar pedal looks like it has some of the same features.

Reminds me of the Roland V-Guitar VG88 multi effect pedal.
Latency’s in the processing, dudes, nothing to do with whether it’s a magnetic pickup or a Gk thing or a Variax. If the latency’s gone, it’s because the processors are faster and/or used more efficiently. The signal through the cable goes at the speed of light. It’s when it hits the processing hardware that it can get slowed down.

Standard guitar processors have really low latency for a loong time
Te latency definetly comes from the polyphonic tracking part that os needed when standard pickups are used

If you're not a guitarist and interested in these sounds for a record or something, check out CS-80v by Arturia. It's modeled after the synth used for Blade Runner and there are preset packs out there with all of sounds needed to make your own Blade Runner OST.

Yeah! DG did so much with so little. All of them did. Imagine PF with access to ALL music toys and tools available today! I would have loved to have had even just a Boss Katana MkII back then! Creativity sparked by gear like this and other choice items could be limitless.
Lee Mason - PF would be overwhelmed with today’s options. Most of their musical tools, although complex, were relatively limited compared to today. Perhaps the lack of choices were key to their success.

Had a U220 via GM70 pitch to Midi and GK1 pickup. Up to 70ms delay on some patches. My how times have changed. Great job as always Rabea. New Toska material soon?

I had a similar thought, but couldn't remember who what where etc. Without being scene or sound specific, the 1000 seems to remind me of synth heavy 80s and 90s sci-fi movies. Cool funstation!=Wow! The price?=Ow!

You forgot to mention the VG-99, it was the flagship product from Roland which they completely neglected in favour of it's smaller, less capable brother, the GR-55. Roland did the exact same thing with regard to the JD-XA where they prioritized it's less capable sibling the JD-Xi, making a lot of users very annoyed at the attitude to prioritize the inferior product over the flagship. Roland do some strange things...
Would also help if Roland kept selling the GK cable - they sell for extortionate prices, and in recent discussions Planet Waves cannot satisfy their lifetime warranties! I've got loads of dead GK cables that I can't claim on because no one makes them!
