Just a heads up, the “power ready” add on spoils the match. It’s taking Drake’s defeated face when his power is ready, but Grimm’s is normal. The belly wasn’t powerful enough.
One of the most impressive things I see from top-level players like this is how many times you have to beat them. Neverlocke looked like he was "losing" for plenty of days that match, but kept coming back and brawling and pulling it close over and over. Grimm Guy wasn't able to just have one strong turn and win, but needed to have strong turn after strong turn to finally grind Neverlocke down and get the win.
I will add the caveat that it’s partly because of the matchup. Most COs a good push *will* give you extra properties, but for this matchup grim can’t hold positions as easily as other COs, *and* every push caused a typhoon that bashes grim right back. IMO Knuckleduster is the wrong call in this matchup, I think you should hold for the haymaker so that you can hit him when his power is already close to full, and thus waste alot of the charge he would have gotten.
Grimm Guy is like Hachi. He is that retired old master that stays in the background. Once COs need guidance he appears out of nowhere, does a training battle with them where he utterly destroys them but gets the message over. COs: "Thanks master for your wisdom!" Grimm Guy: "hehehehe" *leaves*
Part of what made it possible is the high presence of properties on the map. Grimm Guy rotated units to get repairs. Sure, it's pulling them back, but by the end of the match, I can't tell this guy went through 3 Typhoons, only 2. Sometimes, it's not about what to build with your cash, it's about how you hold the front.
I haven't heard the name Grimm Guy in a hot minute... but then, when I saw this notification pop up... I heard it in the distance. The electric guitar... the Kettle drums... Oh yeah..Things are looking GRIMM for you!! GAH HAAH HAAAH!!!
The entire last few turns just left me seeing where Neverlocke was going down - he had to keep up on tanks and anti-air to keep brawling with Grimm, and kept having to prioritize hitting Grimm's tanks and copters, and you know what happens endgame if you have to do that? Grimm ends up the one with infantry in the field, and Locke ended up without any Infantry to actually capitalize on any holes he could punch, where Grimm had a constant flow of infantry into his lines.
Good to see Grimm Guy is still fighting the good fight. So much fun to watch him wreck house, and there is never a dull moment when watching him. As a fan of weather and global damage COs, I am thoroughly impressed with how Grimm Guy handled every time Drake popped Typhoon. GG's both of you!
I justed realized Grimm's powers are just like his fight style. Knuckle Dusters and Haymakers are wild "All out boxing" punches that are make or break type moves. Devastating, but leaves you very vulnerable. Mangs' boxing analogies are very on point, I think
Kinda, yeah, but not really. Being a boxer myself, the slight problem with the analogy is that the vast majority of sluggers, those guys that throw the heavy haymakers that will knock you down in one or two hits, are really damn good at taking punches too, they have to be unless they want to get immediately destroyed by an opponent with a high pain tolerance or fast feet. Grimm as a boxer works... under the assumption that he's a bad boxer.
@@desreploid3353Haha yeah as a fighter myself the boxer analogy doesn't really work. A much better analogy is that Grimm is a goon who ambushes people, an unexpected punch will always hurt even if not thrown well, but he doesn't actually know how to fight so if you just stand your ground and return a punch he'll crumple. Which is why good goons are actually pretty cunning and only take fights where they have an advantage.
I'll be honest and say I hardly play AW in general, but I love watching your replay commentaries, even someone like me who hardly has any experience with the game can understand and enjoy watching what's going on. Keep up the good stuff, Mangs ❤
I'm a bit late, but I noticed something interesting : the Grimm censor didn't matter The site will show who lost and who won through the Powers/Supers, as you can notice, Drake's pfp is always grey, wich spoiled that Grimm Guy won anyway
Honestly, one thing I'd love to watch would be a match between Grimm Guy and Incuggarch. They both seem like very cautious players, very good at positioning and timing attacks well, and so on. Could be fun to watch a match between the two.
Grimm Guy has convinced me to make Grimm my Tier 4 Main. So far... I'm honestly impressed. I've had decent success in matches for my rating (800s) when playing as Grimm on Tier 4.
I loved the use of music from Kirby and the Amazing Mirror. I never owned that game, but my cousin had it, and I played on his file. It's a very good Kirby game due to its metroidvania style atypical of Kirby games. On topic: Grimm Guy, whoever he really is, is a badass player, and he's making everyone who knocks heads with him look like chumps for thinking Grimm is lackluster. Shouldn't be fooled: Grimm Guy is showing that Grimm is less "awesome but impractical" and more "difficult but awesome".
It's funny, despite reading the title and watching many GG matches myself, I didn't expect him to take that severe economic lead at the end. I have no idea how I would recover from all those Typhoons.
The bridges that end on shoals on one end look extremely cursed, especially the ones on the corners of this map, but it is what it is I guess. As always, Grimm Guy and his sheer precision are such a treat to see; the guy at the helm really should just start maining him for real and beating the crab out of high-ranks with him. 🤩
For Global Damage Matchup, If the Global damage CO gets an income lead and pops the global damage, it's usually over unless a player can gain income advantage again. Also this map has No Strong/Weak side, meaning global damage was not as terrifying as it could have been
The 2 base side is the strong side! I’d describe it as a “higher fund 3B strong/weak side map with bad front shifting”. So copters are really good (yay Grim) and strong side arties are also surprisingly decent (also a surprising yay for Grim, his arties are good bait for the strong side and he’s good at punching through walls so his opponent’s arties aren’t as effective where they’d want them to be on the weak side) I don’t know if I’d say this map favors Grimm OVER drake but it’s def a good map for Grimm nonetheless
Grimm Guy is a master of one of the fundamental values of throwing a good punch. Sometimes a regular punch is fine. Sometimes you need to pull your arm back and throw something way harder. Grimm Guy understands the value of pulling his arm(y) back before throwing a haymaker
I feel like Neverlocke should have stayed a little longer. He probably was gonna lose, but I think he should have atleast waited to see if he could get anything done with the next typhoon, *then* tap out.
Great match It's funny that I spoiled the result to myself few days ago as I tagged for my first standard matches in months, got a game on Sahara, decided to look at some finished matches to get hints on capture phase and openings, and saw this game in the list Anyway, I'm amazed at how Grimm Guy always manage to lure his opponent in thinking he can make a good trade, only to crush him harder the next turn
I really like how I don't know who is going to win for most of the match, it's more fun when the game is up in the air like that. Plenty of good strikes and reversals going on.
This match shows the ability of both Neverlocke and Grimm Guy. Neverlocke is quite scary to survive this long and managed to repulse Grimm Guys terrifying assaults. Whenever I see those assaults and the damage he dealt, Neverlocke is very impressive to repel them so many times.
Seems like Grimm Guy secured the econ lead then squeezed Neverlocke out of the game despite the global damage. Really goes to show how strong econ leads can be in this game.
His HQ side is completely overrun. Even with a Typhoon, Grimm Guy is going to lock it down with a healthy Artillery (which will repair the global damage) and plonk it down in the choke point. At this point it's only a matter of time before Grimm Guy baselocks Neverlocke's right side. He might be able to make some progress on Grimm Guy's HQ side, but with Grimm Guy having an initiative advantage, 10+ unit count lead and 6000 more income, it's a losing battle.
Grimm guy will take over the HQ before NeverLocke could respond to it. Even with a typhoon, Grimm Guy can combine infantry and then use his remaining units as meat shields to take the HQ
So this just proves what I said on other videos of yours. Global damage doesn't matter, extra movement doesn't matter, high defense doesn't matter, etc. Grimm + No mistakes= victory every single time. Grimm doesn't play by the rules like everyone else when he can simply do that much dmg. Really drive the point home now and do a Olaf Vs Grimm.

Grimm Guy matches are thrilling to watch. Seeing the momentum switch back and forth feels like watching a good drama.

Part of me wants to see Grimm Guy play High Funds. Mostly because I wanna see him chucking Neotanks at the enemy like nuclear dodgeballs.
That sentence just put Grimm's fucking smile in my head, and the mental imagery is perfect.
Grimm Guy is like Hachi. He is that retired old master that stays in the background. Once COs need guidance he appears out of nowhere, does a training battle with them where he utterly destroys them but gets the message over.
COs: "Thanks master for your wisdom!"

Grimm acting as a masterful CO of legend is just absolutely hilarious.
