Despite how scary Grit is made to be, and yeah he is scary on paper, I hardly ever see the grit player win. Might be because his powers lacks a finishing blow and the tempo loss from his -20% direct damage make him really hard to use, especially in high funds.

Recently joined AWBW. Faced grit artillery spam on high funds as Drake and won. Mostly because my capture game was better, had 10k more income by the time his artillery spam really got going. And thanks to Drake's super I got to see out-of-fuel artillery XD
I feel like they definitely did feel some of it. Spending money to repair those 7 HP Artillery added up a bit in this match. Since the Grit was behind on income and any value that isn't going into Artillery or units to assist in escorting/protecting those Artillery is money that is essentially wasted.
Silly question -- did anyone use Black Boats to heal/resupply their adjacent units? It seems that as the Black Boat can't be healed on this map, surrounding it by anti-air and infantry that get healed is one way to handle it, or at least force your opponent to bring 2+ heavy units to break the wall. Possible objections: 1. It only works on sea units, or not in AWBW. 2. The first-strike advantage is too good to put good units on defense. 3. It takes too much money/tempo to do so quickly enough to matter.
You can indeed use BBs on HQs to heal adjacent units, most people just forget. They can also boost infantry and I think there’s still a bug where the HQ will even heal infantry loaded into the BB. Not usually a big deal but you never know. Worth taking the time to think about at least
Hmmm... Could he have forced a win on day 17? kill the transport with the battlecopter, kill the artillery directly below the lab with the neotank, start capturing with the full hp infantry, use the 9-hp infantries to take out the 1-3 hp infantries, then a tank for the antiair, and I think Grit has nothing in range to interrupt the capture (As long as they can't get enough meter to pop their power)
I haven't watched this episode yet but I still can't believe I've made it to Round 4 of this tournament. This map so far has been my favorite, as having 5 bases was just crazy to play against.
Mangsvance Wars has a ton of AWBW maps in it. I believe Ephraim225 also made Advance Wars Returns, which is a hack that uses the original COs and has all the major AWBW maps in it.
The biggest obstacle is the lack of empty silos on cartridge, since they're everywhere in AWBW maps. Hopefully the remake will add them, since they're technically already in the game and were a terrain type (fort) in older Wars games .
Idk why anyone would he tempted to pick grit on this map its basically a race. Oh who am I kidding i love grit id do it to. Putting myself in femboys shoes I may have tried to resist the epic arty spam in favor of more infantry and even mechs against the tank spam. Mechs can reinforce your weak side almost as fast as normal infantry due to the rivers, especially since he built an apc already. Also tanks, maybe a tank for every two artys, don't think he built a single one lol
Wouldn't recons be good on this map. The speed, anti infantry, cheap, and harass the artillery? And from Grits point of view, would 1 missile around his hq actually be a good idea against all the choppers and bombers?
At that point I'd honestly be worried about spending enough of your money. Also I'm not sure the map suits recons that well. You need to be able to move units quickly and a lot of the roads/shoals don't lend themselves well to the attacks you need: they mostly go vertical, and your strong attacks go horizontal. Bad time for recons. I could imagine one or two missiles being a good idea (5 bases after all!) but only if you have an incredibly intimidating wall, and I don't think the grit in this game got to that point where missiles would have been a good investment.
@@XiremaXesirin should be better than this, reacons builds a faster wall to prevent enemy getting near. with some bases building reacon, there are more cash to spent on something valuable such as bomber and neos which soak damage more. Other than that front switch is easier on reacon than artilary or other slower unit. Using reacon to reduce infantry amount is wiser than using infantry on infantry as you need it for capture than fighting.
I'm a recon enjoyer but no. You need to make tanks/neo and bcopters/bombers. Mangs was right. He just needed a few more fighters/AA earlier on but he still had the edge. You get a lot of funds so recons seem unnecessary, tanks and infantry are better. Also, infantry do fine at neutralizing arty. Grit was never going to get near Mangs base because they wasted turns shooting at infantry that couldn't do anything.
I thought about the missile... but I suspect what happens is the missile unit gets hit with a tank, and then you've just wasted 12k funds and 3-4 turns of moving a unit from the weakside base.
Shame I kinda…lost all confidence in my AW abilities long before this tournament. Seems like a great environment to mess around with lower tier COs; I bet I could’ve had some fun with Jake here.
It was a total mistake for grit to confront you northward as his first front. Western side of his base allows so much more fluidity, his artillery would have established so much faster. Instead because he moved his artillery north of the river he busted a game of thrones winterfell style blunder, (in game of thrones the stark army had the smooth brain idea of placing their trebuchets in front of and outside of their castle)
What I really value the rocket over the artillery is not the 5 range, which _is_ nice, but the fact that its minimum is 3 less than its maximum range. And Grit has that built into the artillery.
The problem of girt is his play style is different than other CO. And the awkward moment is that there is limited battle for most player to train to use it on standard match as most of the time he is being banned.
Could be wrong, but I think you could've checkmated him on Day 17. He didn't have much around his lab, if you took out just enough that he couldn't Snipe Attack the infantry I think you had it.
@@TBC2304 I felt the same way while I watched! Looking back at it, I think the specific move would have been using the tank right above the purple city to attack the artillery three spaces below the lab instead of the one further to the left of the city. Now I wonder if grit building 1 or 2 rockets and placing them on the little landmass right above the bases would have been a valid strat. The rivers would protect it from vehicles, right? Sure, it would take time to get them through the forests, but it's not like the artillery was getting to the front very quickly either!
@@0ceankingThe artillery was on a forest so it definitely wouldn't die, but you can send in the bcopter to finish it off. Injured units that can reach the lab (3 infantry, 1 AA) can be cleared out with just infantry. Everything else should be pulled back. On Grit's turn both the tank and bcopter will die, as well as any infantry in range but it won't generate enough charge for Snipe Attack (see 29:37 for a reference). A Rocket in that small patch of land would indeed eliminate any chance of a lab cap, and since it's Grit he can even place it on the city which is just perfect. And if he built it on the rightmost base it would take just 4 days to get into position, and the path is relatively safe from harassment too. Another extremely good place for a Rocket is the forest to the left of the leftmost base, as it covers a wide area that Mangs regularly attacked into. It's a shame that Femboy didn't build any Rocket, especially in a HF game.
I recently had an idea, a site, like AWBW in which the 4 countries battle on either the AW1 or 2 map, with some dual strike units ofc( black boat, megatank and carrier, maybe also a weakened version of the stealth(interceptable by missiles))and they battle with their entire country, you have too conquer the true HQ too destroy the enemy, it’s daily, like AWBW. And you have too fight other’s overseas (aside from orange star VS blue moon) so naval units are actually crucial, a few things I would change are the ability for Black boats too repair air units, since it does not make sense and removes the reason for carriers, speaking of which, I would give them the ability too repair aircraft, same with cruisers and you would have too make a few other changes, but I really believe it has potential, any game developers watching this video?

5 reason, 1) rocket is slow 2) rocket is expensive 3) rocket short distance coverage is low, while 2 artilary cover each other 4) rocket is fragile, infantry can easily break through rocket 5) girt artilary can do most of the jobs but I personally think that building one or 2 dont harm as the map is large and putting rocket on the river on the island surrounded by the river will ensure your coverage
Okay something I don't understand. I've been watching Mangs for about 7 years or so, and he's always consistently said that Sturm is broken beyond belief, so why is he only Tier 2? and pretty low in Tier 2 as well, I'm legit confused.
Each mode has their own tier list because the power level of each CO can differ quite a bit between each mode (Standard, Fog, High Funds). Even within each mode you sometimes see maps where COs get moved up or down a tier on that map because they are especially strong/weak on that specific map. Sturm is very strong in standard/fog to the point of often being banned, but he's relatively weaker in high funds hence why he's moved down in tier.
what a shame that javier was banned. Not even taking how he counters grit into account just a quick glance at the map makes it clear that he would have been unstoppable with two comm towers per player. One of my favorite COs really, very underrated
@@TheMistermastermario Are we really going to argue about COs being well or terribly designed in a game with AW2 Jess, kindle/candy, sonia or kanbei existing?
Not gonna lie here, I can see why Grit was allowed. This wasn't even close to a fair fight. I could imagine Javier definitely being banned because of how much more he'd invalidate a Grit pick. The charm of this channel for me, is that Mangs is a casual FE and AW player. When he goes full on "Guide Mode" it's kind of funny. Folks can't relate to LTC players and tournament level masters. That's just reality. Sometimes it's cool to watch that, but for the most part I prefer delving into the more casual scene of either of these games.

this video is clickbait, not a single rocket was built over the entire match, but they still appear in the thumbnail
Why do they prefer Labs over HQ?
If I recall correctly, labs don't give money, but HQ's do.
Possibly lower defense stars too so you aren't as incentivized to just park a mega on the HQ? (Which is somewhat feasible on High Funds)
Grit seems inherently scary but it seems he is bad on this map.
Hey Mangs, Wangs, Dangs, whatever your name is, I counted the artillery in this game.
There are at least 3. You're welcome
No way, I didn't see more than 2.5!
Hold up, Javier is Tier 3!? Last time I was on AWBW, he was Tier 1!
High funds, although in practice he was probably tier 1 here due to there being 4 com towers.
This is the High Funds tiering.
Banger certified in my opinion.
Your commentary made it sound like he was actually a treath to you. You were completely smashing him with 50% more income and around 100% more unit value for the entire gake lol. Good game though!
Question, why doesn't the Grit player build a rocket or two?
5 reason,
1) rocket is slow
2) rocket is expensive
3) rocket short distance coverage is low, while 2 artilary cover each other
4) rocket is fragile, infantry can easily break through rocket
5) girt artilary can do most of the jobs
but I personally think that building one or 2 dont harm as the map is large and putting rocket on the river on the island surrounded by the river will ensure your coverage
Wangs vs Femboy let's gooooo
Grit Air Force action
@@Incuggarch Oh the list is for the high funds mode only, okay that makes sense.
I have double value, and 20k more income .... Legit question against Grit: Am I going to lose this?
You can. Trust me.
are rockets ever worth getting?
Who is Wangs?
what a shame that javier was banned. Not even taking how he counters grit into account just a quick glance at the map makes it clear that he would have been unstoppable with two comm towers per player. One of my favorite COs really, very underrated
i'd argue he might be terribly designed if he's either terrible (no towers), top tier (1 tower), or unstoppably broken (2+ towers)
Sometimes it's cool to watch that, but for the most part I prefer delving into the more casual scene of either of these games.
i build neotanks with grit. it still has strong firepower and tanky too. do not spam artlry only
Too much artillery... He must build more inf for covers, one or two missiles and TOAs for transport... But gg
Can any one win on cap roquet map against 3 computer players in Adavance wars 1 GBA ?
neat
🥚
F-femboy Grit??!? uwu
Mangs has lots of experience dominating femboys I bet
According to high funds authority atrueboss Grit is the absolute worst CO in high funds.
i guess that's not too surprising, in the fast paced AWDS he's also terrible there because the game is way too fast for him and high funds is similar where game is extremely fast paced.
Newb player here. Why is Olaf tier 1 in high funds?
