Predaking and Devastator's sizes are great, Superion is the one who is greatly undersized when you consider what his components are supposed to be (4 fighter jets and a passenger plane). Whereas I think Menasor and Defensor (with Rook instead of Groove) work as smaller combiners since they are made out of smaller components (cars and trucks) whereas Bruticus should be larger due to being made up of large military vehicles (though Swindle was originally a jeep, he preferably should be an armored truck/car).
IMO the sacrifices made for the individual robots is more palatable than with Devastator. Scrapper had no elbows,Hook and Mixmaster had weird elbows. Mixmaster had Waspinator booty. Long Haul looks like Mark Henry and had sideways elbows. The worst things are the black slabs on Headstrong and Tantrum. All of these guys have good articulation including ankle tilts even. Anyway A long Optibotimus review is always a good one. Keep up the great work as usual!

Yeah all those cut corners on Hasbro's Devastator made me get the Takara Devastator which is MUCH MUCH better

I always thought Predaking was meant to be BIGGER than Devastator! He was pretty much the alpha predator (pun intended) when it came to combiners, a monster among monsters if you will.
Even as a kid, the fact that 2 of the Predacons aren't actually predators in the least, always made me smile and raise an eyebrow. But it's Predaking!! I love em'...
I actually like him being as big Devastator but I don’t like his tiny waist. I with there was some way to fill in that area to make his proportions normal. He looks like one of those body builders who has massive arms and chest but a ridiculous tiny waist then huge bulky legs. I’m cool with the rest. I would’ve had him configured the same way you would’ve with the arms and legs switched but I’m okay with the configuration.

Imagine if there was a combiner that had it's own alt form. So each individual part has a robot mode, a vehicle/animal form, and a body part form. All while the combined one has its own vehicle/animal form alongside a robot mode. The engineers making it would despise it.
I mean technically it could work but at least two of those forms are gonna be more of a suggestion then an actual robot/vehicle

Note: you can still switch the arms AND cannons,simply take the cannons off,put the arms in the right way,then there are holes on Razorclaws feet and put the cannons,boom,done

Great review. There are things you kinda got wrong, and some minor issues you didnt mention. But the main things I will go into specifics. One, though I get that its mainly a preference thing for you, but Devastator was actually never the biggest combiner and the CW Devastator set is way way out of scale. He was the oldest, and the weakest, and not the biggest bulk wise. This is why in the cartoon you saw him easily beaten by both a lower powered Bruticus in season 2 (the Combaticons lacked energy absorbers at the time to refuel), and a energon drained Menasor in season 3.
Both Menasor and Devastator were pretty much drained of energon, but where as Menasor could still stay combined and wield his weapon and fight some, Devastator couldn't even stay combined and get any hits in. Devastator was a great enforcer for Megatron, and the original combiner which carries some bragging rights. But outside of that when the other combiners started to appear they made it painfully appearent in the cartoon that they considered Devastator to simply be the weakest of them all.
As for POTP Predaking. The arms can be swapped. The cannons can also peg into the feet in the upper back. That is why the the feet have holes and why the cannons were designed with adjustable pegs. Some of us were actually discussing the arm and leg positioning on the Reprolabels group, so I will just copy/paste my post on it so I dont have to retype basically the same thing:
All through the years Predakings configuration has varied slightly, depending on if you watched the cartoon, looked at the toys box art (which was just the cartoon configuration, but evidently inverted by mistake while designing the package art), or read comics and looked at promo art. He is even presented slightly different in the new Prime Wars Trilogy show, with both Divebomb and Tantrum being the left side limbs.
This is why they left the upper torso with the ability to have the limbs swapped and still allow the cannons to be pegged in, etc. This way you could at least either maintain a G1 cartoon accurate look out of the box, or go for the Prime Wars Trilogy shows look. That should basically tell you that Hasbro doesn't really give much thought on the other configurations since they only set out to support two specific configurations, both show related.
Good post. I would just offer that the Sunbow cartoon’s main focus was to sell toys for Hasbro and push the latest and greatest toys. So naturally they played down Devastator when the newer combiner teams came out. It was all for marketing purposes so I wouldn’t put too much stock in the outcomes of those fights. I’m not saying that Devy was the strongest either but the outcomes of those cartoon encounters were designed to promote the newer gestalt characters at the expense of Devastator.
eaglewings1788 eah, you can tel when a new toy came out when the newest character is always THE MOST POWERFUL THREAT TO DECEPTICONS/AUTOBOTS EVER!!!! and then they introduce another character that proceeds to be the most powerful

I still wish a KO company would Downscale this to fit in with the other combiners like they did Devastator.
PredaKing was always the biggest combiner, I had all of the original combiners, PredaKing easily towered over them all, because each Predicon was bigger individually in animal and robot mode.

Wow! Long review, but worth it! And here we get another Ttitan Class Transformer, after Metroplex, Devastator, Fortress Maximus and Trypticon, we get Predaking! It's not perfect, those giant top legs connectors for Headstrong and Torox are so big and stick out too much, but if they made them separately, people would have complained that it was parts-former like Omega Supreme or something. But the end result is impressive! I don't mind if it's out of scale with other Combiners, but now I wish that the Dinobot combiner Volcanicus was as big as Predaking! Awesome review, Paul!
Glad you mentioned Earth Wars, because the Predacons are basically the best Decepticon team in the game. Divebomb and Tantrum are the most desirable Decepticon chargers, Predaking is basically the best combiner to attack with, and the team doesn't have any stinkers like the other teams (Bonecrusher, Vortex, and especially the worst character in the game: Drillhorn).
I honestly think this along with the cybertron starscream, is my favorite giant figure, and he towers over the others! In all honesty I like that he's this big since it reminds me of the idw series size, Im also biased since he's always been my favorite decepticon combiner XD

I'm a huge Predaking fan, but something about this just isn't sitting right with me. It might be the scale for sure, and also the lack of a sword, but perhaps something else like the waist? Just not sure, but I'll probably wait for a sale on this as the G1 version is still OK for my collection. But to answer your collection the Unique Toys version is way better looking in combined mode.
27:28 DIvebomb's head isn't supposed to be like that though for that version. He's supposed to wear that bird head like a cap not like a wizard's pointy hat.
Can you try to do a short review or a refresher of all the 13 prime masters?
Great review! As cool as he looks in combined mode I think I'd rather spend my money on the g1 versions , this power of the prime version is $230 Canadian!!!
I actually just got the weijiang version and didn’t notice theres a ankle tilt for headstrong and tantrum because of the many reviews I watch they didn’t show that articulation
The Scale issue with PotP Predaking and Devastator vs the CW combiners bothers me as well.
My solution was to get 3rd party Hercules and Warlord to pose with my CW collection (they fit in size wise very nicely with the CW gestalts) and to keep the new Hasbro Predaking and Devy off on another shelf by themselves.
I certainly enjoy your video reviews as always. I have this set myself and I really like the overall asthetic of the set. The colors are spot on, the individual robot modes look great, and the beast modes look great as well. The leg kibble on tantrum(torox) and headstrong doesn't really bother me. I understand why they chose to make them like that in order to add up size wise with devastator. He looks really impressive in combined mode and looks great next to the other combiners. Makes me kinda of wish the other combiners would've been the same size as him, lol. Great video review and continue to keep up the great work.
As Superion will have a new release next year, I'll wait and see if Predaking and maybe Computrom will have new releases too.

Predaking isn’t supposed to be in scale with Superion. You’re meant to use different toys that are in scale with those two. Use a large Optimus Prime toy for example with Predaking and a smaller Optimus Prime toy with Superion and other CW combiners.
I don't know why they always said "you suck, shartimus prime is better than you, childish" but for me your the BEST! And for me your better than shartimus. And your childish style of reviewing a toy is great! You bring the inner kid in me. That's why your the best for me. Keep the good job Paul!
I think it would have been better if Hasbro released the predacons separately so more people could have predaking instead of them in a whole set and also if you only wanted one of them you could just buy it and if you wanted one you have to buy every predacon

Just watched the Predaking video. You commented that Divebomb and Rampage were reversed from the G1, but Headstrong and Tantrum are also reversed. The whole mirror image thing.
They should have done Volcanicus like this. The Guy's supposed to be the same size as Predaking.
I have a similar issue to you, regarding your third party predaking. I have the old Fansproject Bruticus set for the Energon team and I still like him over all the other sets that have come out, including the combiner wars one.

The whole thing of wishing that the combiner parts were removable would have been bad if they did do exactly that, because of one singular problem that a lot of people do, loosing spare parts that aren't permanently attached to the figure itself, look at the original g1 constructicon, it had lots of parts that were vital to the combined form, if you lost one piece, you couldn't form Devastator

i dont get why predaking is engineered differently to the other 5 bot combiner teams with devastator i get the different enigneering since he's a six bot team but with predaking there was no need to make him incompatible with other combiners teams i really wanted to mix and match this guy with the dinobots
Why is the reason/matter about this edition include two diferent sizes Predaking Action figures?
My Rampage has the same issue, I sent him back to hasbro and they are sending me a new set to replace it. They are going to look into the issue

It seems like some really obvious QC issues hold this guy back from being Great and they largely appear to stem from Razorclaw, who is supposed to be the pivotal part of the set. Really nice otherwise.
