That eating gimmick reminds me of a Godzilla toy I really really wanted as a kid. It was a giant Godzilla that could eat figures and you'd open a panel in the stomach to take them out. And people complaining that a toy looks like the G1 incarnation? What has the world come to? I thought G1 was the holy grail and you should never ever stray from how G1 was.
That Leetri Guy- With old G1 characters as new toys, people like to see things updated and modernized but without completely shitting on the source material altogether like Michael Bay movies mostly do. It's not even a fine line that's easy to screw up. It's pretty simple to understand. I do like this figure and have one ordered, but I can see why people complain that it is too close to just being the old G1 toy but bigger and with more detail. G1 Trypticon is pretty cheesy looking now. Look at the Master Made Diabolus Rex. It's a wonderful update to Trypticon, but it has the cutesy big head thing going on.
UNICRON 9 *Like "The Bay movies" Do ON PURPOSE,* Cause He knows people will go regardless. Them Transformer movies were made for Optimus & too piss off G1 Fans! 100% #TruthBomb they Laughed about it.
A less destructive hip fix is to put the bottom of a plastic cup between the teeth of the ratchet. The strength of the spring keeps Trypticon upright easily, even as just a friction joint. No destructive cutting of springs or degradable cardboard. The issue with the outward movement of the hips can be fixed by taking them apart and rotating the ratchet teeth 90 degrees. There is a bit of trial an error as there is a ratchet at each end of the axle and both have to be right.
There's a mod for the tough leg joints, it's to do with the tension of the spring, take it apart to get the spring, work the spring squeezing it in your hands for about 5-10 minutes then pop it back together, job done.
I just picked this up for my collection. The thing that I loved so much about these massive titan figures as a kid was that they were both powermasters and headmasters. This one in fact has Necro which is the headmaster for Full-Tilt who is esentially the powermaster for Trypticon. All he needed was a targetmaster figure to complete the trifecta. lol
They did something better, the original Trypticon came with Brunt, a tank that transformed into Trypticon's towers, in the Siege line they relesed it as a full Transformer with a robot mode andh the Weaponizer feature, being able to divide itself in parts that can be attached to other transformers in the 5.mm holes, including Trypticon.
Dark Magician's Cousin and in rid it has been suggested that there is a trypticon prison (assuming that fact that either the Autobot made a prison name after trypticon or the nemesis has been repurpose as a prison)
I used a more reversible fix for the ratchets, if anyone knows any negatives let me know *clog the ratchets* I used the bottom of some plastic cups and put them between the ratchet teeth to convert them into *friction joints*, holds the weight just fine and any crazier stuff is him leaning over just keep the legs straight as the tail counter balances. *don't use cardboard or paper as it'll deteriorate/rot overtime* The strong springs end up holding him together but not ruining him in the process, and I can pop the legs apart and pull out the plastic. Must be soft but rigid plastic so to simply stop the ratchet teeth touching.
Those legs were really worrying me. Very glad to see they still function fine after you did the fix. Excellent review as always Paul. And you sold me on this. Going to head over and order one myself.
If you have the original Trypticon, his guns and radio antenna fit on the new Tryp in city mode in the same place as the original. Not sure if it's deliberate or a happy coincidence.
I'm glad they didn't include electronics, I'm not a fan of them in transformers, I think including a deluxe Full-Tilt was a better choice. Electronics add needless weight, are prone to rusting, and hinder articulation.
TheTrojanToaster I hate the fact they couldn't even be bothered to give him a weapon. And no, him barely holding his knee guns doesn't count. I'm talking about the actual gun clearly visible on the package.
in one of the takara comic for Trypticon ,thanks to Trypticon shorter height , he easily bite off metroplex spark(the red color button on metroplex chest)and causes metroplex go offline but also cause Trypticon to get blown up due to the spark or metroplex body explode,he managed to survive thanks to fultilit is still alive
Hotspot: That's it Trypticon, the new Decepticon City! Blades: It's ENORMOUS! Hotspot: That's never stopped the Protectobots before. Astrotrain: Transform Trypticon. A small favor. How does it size up to the Combiner Wars deluxes? I remember my G1 Metroplex housing/imprisoning my Protectobots, Combaticons and the one Stunticon I refused to let my brother have to complete Menasor. Like the commercial, how does Defensor stack up against this guy?
Finally!!!! I called it! A few years have past since we got Generations Metroplex, I got him and said something is missing... his nemesis Trypticon!!! And there he is! I knew it was just a matter of time, when they put that vote poll to decide which new Titan Class Transformer should be made, we got great choices: Omega Supreme, Scorponok and Trypticon, there was no hesitation in my mind, it had to be Trypticon! All the other choices are great, since we got Fortress Maximus, his own nemesis Scorponok would have been cool. And Omega Supreme would be a great adversary to CW Devastator, but we can come back to those, can't we? I will be very happy to get my very own Trypticon and put him in a battle scene VS Metroplex, that's my plan! And the hip joints can easily be repaired, thank goodness! Awesome review, Optibotimus! One I've been looking forward to for a looong time!
The reference to the Spaceship as being the Nemesis may be a reference to the Aligned continuity where as punishment he was stasis locked in vehicle mode and became the Nemesis
The servos required to move a figure that weighs that much would have easily jacked the price $20-$50 higher. I can't complain too much. I got mine for $60 at an outlet store. I love how it looks so much like the G1 figure. It really scratches the nostalgia itch. The chest flap on mine is kinda flimsy. It barely stays closed with Full Tilt attached. I didn't really have the ratchet issue with the legs, but I don't move him much either so take that for whatever it's worth. ($0.02)
The upright stance looks awesome. It makes him look menacing much like Mecha Godzilla. As much as him, Omega Supreme, and Sky Lynx having electronics are cool back in G1, getting bigger and better toys now are much more worth it. Of course my issue is SPACE to put him.
BEFORE I EVEN WATCH IT... Funny - I got an email this morn from my fav store saying it was in stock. I said to myself, lemme watch a review before I commit. Not 20 min later, I get a notification for this video! Very slick Optibotimus. Very slick.
The hips on mine are more loose than the ones on yours pre-modification(I'm not strongest guy around and I was able to move the hips without effort, at all). So I never did the modification. I guess luck was on my side for once.
Couple of points: Tryp does actually have his own Titan Master interaction. Check out the button that pops the nose gun, and there's a TM neck port. You pop Necro in there as an extension to the button. Oh, and if you notice, he's even got TM pegs in his MOUTH. :P I also recommend trying the base and ship modes with Legion/Cyberverse figures; that works really well. And technically he's a kaiju. ;)
+DrawnSteelHero technically it could be considered a kaiju since kaiju means "strange beast". But I don't believe he's considered that in the generic sense of the word
Nemesis mode is taken from the Transformers: Fall of Cybertron video game. In it, Megatron punishes Trypticon for failing to kill Optimus Prime and has Soundwave use his body to as material for the Nemesis battleship.
You can fix the springs without cutting just spend five to ten minutes squeezing each spring in your hand I got the toy yesterday and mine is OK straight from the box guess it only affected early versions of the figure
If the figure had a walking feature the hips wouldn't be an issue but people need a giant dinosaur who can do the splits. I'm also disappointed that they didn't include Brunt, but the bits that it made are still there. Overall I think I'm going to have to wait and see what Hasbro does about the hips.
My main complaint is that I wish he towered over Metroplex and Fort Max but I'm grabbing him regardless and here's to 3rd party making him some cool attachments that enhances his height while at a reasonable price.
Ok, the G1 toy was battle station, city and T-Rex. No spaceship, that was included in this Titans Return toy. It replaces the battle station. I prefer the battle station rather then the spaceship, that being said this figure is pretty bad ass. The size is what he SHOULD have been back in the day.
I bought this after your review so you really helped, I had my concerns with the high price tag but I gotta say I love it! My only problem is storing it !
just got it! he is amazing and impressive!!!! the only thing negative: le sticker sheet was missing... but even without the stickers her look terrific as for the hips... my toy's arent that hard.
Some people just can't be happy. I see nothing wrong with this new Trypticon. Amazing Transformer! I love it. Too bad about the leg issue, but at least it can be fixed. Looks like it makes for a great display piece and toy. Nice review. :)
Ordered this bot today, decided to take the chance while I had it. Hope he's worth it since he does seem pretty promising. He should arrive on Friday, should.
I didn't bother cutting the spring. Instead, I discovered an easier way to fix the ratchet problem. A thick circular piece of cardboard placed between the ratchet teeth.
Hi, which product run # did your Trypticon come from? Another user says his Trypticon has non issues with his hips and the product run # of his bot is 71241. If yours had the problem can you post it here so we can avoid it?
How come you never put the Reprolabels set on Titan Metroplex? The stock stickers just look so bland to me looking over at mine decked out with Reprolabels and the 3rd party head.
+KinG univer5e actually you're utterly wrong. I use a grand total of 16 lights on my normal reviews. This review, I used 2. What you see as brighter lights is due to increased exposure. Which I needed to do to compensate for the lack of lights. I have to film large figures like this in my kitchen on my table. So my conditions are less than ideal.
Probably had to use a different area to review the figure since it's the size of a small boat. :P It's strange, the smallest change can throw camera and processing settings way off.
Sorry but I didn't get it... when will mpm 3 bumblebee be in the Shops ? And will it be aveilable in Germany ... if yes is it in Germany a toysrus exklusive as well ?
There's always someone to bitch about everything... I for one can do WITHOUT the electronics if it gets me a full transformable deluxe figure. Trypticon looks awesome! I really want this in my collection to finally get the 2 titans.
yeah, but it is limited to sounds and eyes lighting up. I'm speaking here about the mechanism that the g1 trypticon had. I can get over the fact that the titan doesnt walk around
If I'm honest I would preferred if Scorpinok won. I mean Titans Return is all about the headmasters right? So it would make sense to have a rival to Fortress Maximus. I'm aware Metroplex was there since 2013, so it would make sense to have Trypticon along with him, but that's just me. I would've loved to see Omega Supreme. We haven't gotten a Omega Supreme figure since Energon.
Hawthorn The Stormtrooper problem is scorponok would have a big titan master since a super big helmet makes no sense but a scout/deluxe Zarak could work and omega supreme would take a lot of imagination and try to barely partsform
Seriously. The fact that we got a trypticon is awesome, but he should have either come earlier or later. We should have gotten Scorp for this Titans Return line to keep it in theme with all the rest of the Headmasters characters we're getting.
+Nuketown Hiroshima I mean the whole Titan Masters gimmick is essentially partforming. But yeah a modern Omega Supreme would be tricky. As for the helmet, they could just do what Powermaster Optimus Prime did in this line, just on a bigger scale.
+Carelli Collectables I mean we're getting non headmaster characters like Megatron and Optimus Prime as Titan Masters, so it wouldn't be that off to have Trypticon. I mean if this line consisted of only characters that were originally headmasters, this line would be short.
Hawthorn The Stormtrooper I'm pretty sure Hasbro doesn't really care about that stuff. The fact that characters like Scourge, who refused to become a Headmaster and instead became a Targetmaster, are Headmasters too doesn't really help.
I know this is a old video but i just found your channel. I have Trypticon, Fortress Max. Metroplex and tuns of other Transformers but they are all in package and box. I never open them just keep sealed and I got to wondering what some looked like transformed. Lol
24:23 Here we see the mother Trypticon watching over her child. Beautiful creatures, Trypticons, they really are stunning.

I'm so glad this review happened. I love your reviews because you take time to talk about everything not just paint and transformers.
It feels like a masterpiece it's just and upscale of the g1 toy and cartoon model with more detail and articulation

Bill O'Brien Glad to hear that! But the only other Titan Class-worthy characters that I can think of are Primus and Unicron.
+Mr. Freekachiggasmaggerman A Titan Class Starscream to fight the Titan Class Primus like in Cybertron. :P
I'll be sad if those two don't come out in some modern fashion from Hasbro/Takara

Hilarious.

That was something i tried to make happen but sadly, the cats weren't having it lol
Thought the cats were reserved for Fortress Maximus

G1 trypticon: back in my days , we have electronics . titans return trypticon: yeah well im more detailed and bigger
OH!!! SO CUTE!!! G1 Trypticon is so adorable next to the new titan!
the belly gimmick i think is for storage for all of your titan masters

I've been looking forward to seeing this guy reviewed on your channel Opti... good to see he's as fun a toy as he looks impressive
So on the back of the box next to the photo of the city mode, there is a smaller black city type thing next to it. What is that?
21:49 Full Tilt's Head fits in the button that pops the nose canon.
Having G1 Trypticon walk into screen was amazing. I really cracked up at that. xD
You can fix the springs without cutting just spend five to ten minutes squeezing each spring in your hand

Yeah, If I ever got this guy, he would be staying in his classic "MECHAGODZILLA" mode :D
funny thing, that button which appears his head gun can actually fit in a headmaster figure
I want a tian class figure, only problem is.
The stickers
The original Trypticon, transformed into a city & mobile battle station; there was no space ship mode.
Do not cut the spring that is a very bad idea! Just work the spring in your hand to loosen it up. It'll work just fine.
Great looking bot and continues the Titan class hassle of a 3hr sticker application. So we have 4 Titans now which is your favourite?
The G1 toy didnt have a space ship mode, but a battle platform mode
Ordered this bot today, decided to take the chance while I had it. Hope he's worth it since he does seem pretty promising. He should arrive on Friday, should.
This version of Trypticon is one hefty dude, so maybe they ditched the idea of adding a motor strong enough to make him move.
when I saw the size of this thing I thoyght "this has to be like 400$" then I saw it was 150$, that's a nice price for this

PaperPopper g1 trypticon has that even in the animation what are you talking about he’s always been like that
How come you never put the Reprolabels set on Titan Metroplex? The stock stickers just look so bland to me looking over at mine decked out with Reprolabels and the 3rd party head.

optibotimus, I thought that because I know nothing about making videos
KinG univer5e I notice the excessive brightness too. The white background seems to reflect the brightness, I might be wrong but something was way off.

That thing is massive! Where are you going to display that? And how much did it cost?
the figure costs about $149.99 in the us
Purchasing My Trypticon this week I can't wait
Whats also Disappointing is the Lack of Sound Effects!!!! I was hoping he would have Trypticon's Voice from War for Cybertron...
Hey Optibotimus would u have preferred a Scorponok over this?
Metroplex has thumbs, he'd win in a fight.
But really, fantastic review! Can't wait to get one.
If you play through "Fall of Cybertron," Trypticon is made into Nemisis.
That looks amazing! Enjoyed it Paul :D

My only problem with all of the Trypticon toys is that they're the wrong color in the cartoon he was black on the toys he's grey
There's always someone to bitch about everything...
I for one can do WITHOUT the electronics if it gets me a full transformable deluxe figure.

3 minutes in and I'm thinking. . . . . . ? ? ? ?
