Whoa. Totally disagree. As a child I always wished they'd have made them combine. That said, I do wish they did an all Voyager like Predaking. Especially since I personally think Volcanicus is one of the best looking of the combiners.
So true, but I wanted add sum huge wings from Swoop on his back with huge cannons like Predaking, to make him look ferocious, terrifying, and intimidating as well. With this design so be titan class tho to be begin with, cause the autobots could use titan class combiners right about now. Watching this again and two things come to mind. The first is as great as this set looks, it would be nice if the add on parts combined to make something on its own rather than "weapons and shields" since not all of them are passable for that. Secondly, the abominus kit suffered so much more when it came to QC and overall just quality itself.
Based on your review, those stress points for the extra parts for combine mode, scare me. As in, they look like they could snap/break at any given moment. The Final result is still a million times better than what we got with the actual figure.

In fact, I never completed Volcanicus because Grimlock was so sad in dinosaur and torso mode(and not particularly great in humanoid mode either). … I attached the other four Dinobots to Combiner Wars Sky Lynx and dubbed the combination Dino-Soar(a name I was surprised Hasbro hadn't already used). And I sort of fell in love with the idea, because it works much better than I expected(in spite of Sky Lynx's loose joints). So I need about HALF of this upgrade(hands, feed, and sword).
i found on my sludge that his hips are strong enough to hold the sword outward and holds it well. Also for the hip piece i found if you take off the piece that goes between the legs out and straighten the legs down fully and put it on that way it works better and just put the inner piece once they are connected
Thanks for doing this. I ordered mine from BBTS last week. Prefer Dream Wave over the Perfect Effect, since with DW no need to add new parts with screws. I shred screws always. Saw an Asian review in non English which sold me on the upgrades, and so happy to have with your commentary.
You would be mistaken to do so, as the Volcanicus set is basically where their efforts focused on for this wave of upgrades. I agree fully that the abominus PE set is a let down, but their Volc torso set is superior to the torso presented in this set. The hands and feet are definitely not great, no defense there. But the torso set actually adds a bit of life to your Grimlock figure, since the way the legs lock in to support the arms in combined mode doesn't put nearly as much stress on Grimlock's clear-plastic shoulder joints as stock Grimlock does. The TDW set does a little to take some of the stress off, but not quite as much as the PE torso. I guess it comes down to preference? I'd say that the set for Volcanicus is actually better than Menasor, especially since his torso swivel is preserved. I just wish the TDW hands and feet were seperate from the rest of the pack, so I could pick them up seperately lol.
I love this kit. It is a little finicky but it improves it so much. My own little touch to the final display is to fill the gap in swoops legs with the enigma, which also bulks out that arm a little
This is a really cool toy! Transformers was one of my favorite cartoons when I was a kid back in the 80’s, and I loved when they introduced the Dinobots. But, I don’t remember them combining to form Volcanicus
As much as I dig this kit, I'm still probably gonna go with the PE ones-- I prefer the way they integrate with the whole titan/prime master play pattern and narrowly prefer their take on the combined mode. That said this set is a worthy opponent, given the way it adds individual weapons for everyone-- plus I do prefer the hands and thigh panels. My biggest issue is the way it limits the hips, and given that that's basically a big ol' nothing of an issue this is a fine set. also it's a pretty ballsy move to name your 3rd party not-transformers company Dreamwave. gotta be said.
I love this. I have the regular volcanicus but can’t find these accessories. I like the accessories because they add more bulk and the size of the hands and feet make it better and the chest makes it bulkier. 15:30 to 33:13
It looks sooooo much better. One thing I would say is they should have painted the missles' tips for Swoop to be more G1. I don't know why they included the all black swords, the painted ones are so nice!
Thanks for actually bending the knees and posing it a little bit rather than just putting it together and standing it up. It shows it's actually functional, articulate still and not G1 "stiff". Can't wait for mine to arrive.
The hands look a tad skinny (at some angles) compared to the bulk of the rest of the body, but other than that this is definetly an upgrade for this combiner
They didn't think to give Snarl a red sword???!!!! All the gubbins they do give you and they didn't think to include a red Snarl sword, what a missed opportunity.
I bought perfect effect PC-21 with PC-23 and tdw TCW-06. If i had to pick way beforehand i'd choose this tdw TCW-06 upgrade parts. It makes volcanicus nice bulky looking on the chest filling those empty gaps and thicker thighs thanks to the add-ons. Only problem i had is on Sludge as a leg too. I can't straighten it because of the new orientation of the instructions and had to leave a little leg bend for it to stand nicely. I'll just follow this vid and use Slag as a leg as well.

Wow, you get a LOT of stuff with this set. Even for someone that doesn't really care one way or another about Volcanicus that's all the 'missing' weapons for the Dinobots + Extras. I love extra weapons. Give one of the unpainted swords to Slash. That said, while I am one of those indifferent towards Volcanicus, the set really does spruce up his look.
The finished product looks great but you've pretty much added another toy on top of it! I could see getting this if the parts stayed on in T-Rex and robot mode. At the same time I totally get the hands and feet.

This Upgrade Kit makes Volcanicus look more like his Earth Wars Style...........like : 1.The faux robot mode chest 2. The dino arms are more closer to the earth wars but earth wars has the dino arms themselves 3.The Sword used is the same as Earth Wars but this sword used in different versions of this combiner was a bigger version of FOC Grimlock's Sword
If, like me, you found this too late and can no longer get it, you can take Slag and Sludge's guns and plug them upside-down into the ports on the outside of Grimlock's wrists to fill out the chest a bit.
Holy crap all of these are downscaled weapons and add-ons from other 3P figures. Going off completely from my memory but the Swoop guns are from Planet X Swoop, most of the swords are Fans project dinobot swords, the feet are from that 3P seacon combiner, the hands are from G Creations Shuraking and Grimlock guns are the Maketoys Thunder Manus guns. Oh and the Snarl guns are also from Shuraking...
I have some stress marks on mine too.... but have (2) complete sets each of the (6) dinobots (still trying to find a way to incorporate the raptor into Volcanicus mode). I’ve got one set combined into Volcanicus and the other set displayed in Dino-mode.
the good point of this kit instead of the P.E. kit is that you dont have to unscrew pieces to install it the work on the leg atticulation could be better but the great thing of this kit is what you can do with the new hand and feet, i like tha and all the weaponery for the robot and the dino mode
This kit amazing, I got it a few days ago(got the preorder) and finally opened it and it’s so good, but I did have to shave some plastic off of Swoop to put on his missiles cuz they popped off for me and I didn’t want to break his wings

You place the combiner in the same configuration as I do. I also plan on getting the the upgrade kit as well cuz that will improve my my Dinobot combiner as well maybe they'll do the same for the Terrorcons and the Predacons.
the big black one was for early adopters of the set apparently, not sure about the small ones though. some sites just said they're preorder only but thats eh. I think its only for first run or so many from how the promos described it.
Another note is that you might wanna shave or sand off a bit the pegs for the hands and feet. They come off a bit too thick and tight and can actually stress and break the peg holes. If you think it's not going in properly, don't force it.
I personally prefer the Perfect Effect kit in terms of the body mod, this guy is kinda funky looking with his massive shoulders and teensy head, the feet, hands, and weapons are fantastic though, will pick up both sets and combine them together :)
It seem you don't have to sand down all the connection pegs for hands & feet. Because most people having trouble attaching them and ended up doing some sanding on those pegs.
I know you mentioned the kit doesn't make him stable, but do you think it makes him a little more solid in the waist area? I recently got my son all of these Dinobots brand new on Ebay, and when combined, Grimlock just can't handle all of the weight. He ends up bending backwards at the waist.

I had mine for a couple hours. Spent most of that time trying to get the hand into Swoop. Finally did but one of the tabs holding the back of the hand on broke, and got the other hand into Slag and the port on him cracked. Those posts are clearly WAY too big.
Is it possible to still have the Dino head on top, or do the chest pieces require the Volcanicus head up top? I repainted a couple extra Grims into Megatron Rex (Beast Wars/purple) and Scorn (red) and pretty much keep their Dino heads up top. Just adding the Grimlock feet off Thingiverse works for me, but these extra parts look awesome. (don't look at the price! dontlookattheprice! Dontlookattheprice!!) I did try a few extra bits off ThV, but printed out too small for Grim's chest. oof.
Theres also an upgrade kit that gives them new swords in robot mode, and they combine to form the foc Grimlock sword for Volcanicus. What do you think of that one Emgo? Its Perfect Effect PC-23 if i remember right.
I wish they had a kit that combines slash and slash2 (not the purple one, the second slash that u buy when u want a second one when u notice there's supposed to be two slashes)

Went for the PE kits for him, so tempted to pick this one up too and mix and match. The PE torso looks great, but the hands suck.
I got their kit for Abominus, and their quality has dropped a bit since Superion and Menasor. I'd recommend against the PE kit for that reason alone.

Pretty good, but unfortunately if you're looking to mix and match, the PE parts that make Grimlock bigger aren't compatible with this set.

Emgo, I had take a drill bit and widen the holes on my swoop and slag for combine mode just to get the hands to fit.

At least with the combined mode fist, it can conceivably hold it's sword. Oversized Jinbao Feral Rex however.....

Not just your copy, i had to shave the pegs on the hands and feet down, they actually split the plastic on Slags ports.

I know you mentioned the kit doesn't make him stable, but do you think it makes him a little more solid in the waist area? I recently got my son all of these Dinobots brand new on Ebay, and when combined, Grimlock just can't handle all of the weight. He ends up bending backwards at the waist.
never thought u wouldget an upgrade kit. i want to pick thus up for the weapons and maybe hands and feet. mix and match both sets i love what pe did to fix grimlock

I had mine for a couple hours. Spent most of that time trying to get the hand into Swoop. Finally did but one of the tabs holding the back of the hand on broke, and got the other hand into Slag and the port on him cracked. Those posts are clearly WAY too big.
I bought PC21 and PC23, I prefer it for my Combined Mode, but the Weapons on this kit is really tempting! 😈
Is it possible to still have the Dino head on top, or do the chest pieces require the Volcanicus head up top?
I repainted a couple extra Grims into Megatron Rex (Beast Wars/purple) and Scorn (red) and pretty much keep their Dino heads up top.
Just adding the Grimlock feet off Thingiverse works for me, but these extra parts look awesome.

Theres also an upgrade kit that gives them new swords in robot mode, and they combine to form the foc Grimlock sword for Volcanicus. What do you think of that one Emgo? Its Perfect Effect PC-23 if i remember right.

TDW did a a good job with this one for sure. I ended up getting the PE kit but I want the TDW hands and feet. Too bad I can't get those separate :(
I wish they had a kit that combines slash and slash2 (not the purple one, the second slash that u buy when u want a second one when u notice there's supposed to be two slashes)
