The relationship independence thing is relatable, it seems kinda daunting to have someone as almost an obligation (lmao 😭) to socialize with because I really need decent chunks of time on my own or I get pretty irritated. And if I don’t feel like hanging out or talking, I don’t want to feel pressured to. But obviously the whole relationship can’t just run on my schedule, you have to give and take and you might be with someone who wants more time together. Also its just hard to put yourself in other people’s shoes and realize they need different things than you, different approaches to situations, and they don’t always want what you would want. Like if I’m having a problem, I really dislike when people are oversympathetic and very expressive about it but other people need that sympathy.

Hey Alex, I think you should try to taxidermy an animal. My recommendation would be a rat to start but make sure you don’t use a frozen feeder rat because the fur slips off once it’s taxidermed. Love you

Yep. Had one for 13 years(he died over 20 years ago) that I swear was my soul mate over any human I’ve ever known. I’ve had a few cats since then and I know it will never be the same. Part of it is it’s hard to allow yourself to get that close again knowing they won’t be there forever. But they also just all have such different personalities. I consider myself so lucky that I ever had a bond like that.
i really enjoy that this channel just kind of became life updates i kinda just went from "oh what new snake arrived today?" to "Oh alex uploaded, i wonder how he's doing today"

I will always have room in my heart and home for another cat. It's ok to be sad about the loss and still want another cat. Rest in peace Shiro ❤
I have been really enjoying your videos for the last few years, especially the end-of-year ones with finance break downs. I'm very sorry about your cat and I hope you will heal sooner than later. I lost one of my dogs just a month ago suddenly (blood clot during just a simple veterinary procedure). I can say that the hole in your heart for your pet will always be there and please do not try to fill it with a new kitten, because the comparison will kill all the joy out of you. I'm saying this not to be mean or anything, but I compared my other dog or a day or two to the one who suddenly passed away and thought why are you not doing the things I enjoyed with my other dog, it broke me a bit. Then I realized that this was not doing any good to either me or my dog and nipped this thought process in the bud. tldr: if you ever get a new cat, please be aware that there will be a possibility that it will have different traits and it may feel confusing to you.

If you feel like it’s too soon to not compare them or expect anywhere close to the same bond, I’d hold off as well. My dog has escaped a few seizure episodes and is still a silly goofy egg and I know it's going to be really hard when he's not here. He's old. The older he gets the more I pour my love into him every day. I have lost dogs before and it was awful... We had two greyhounds. Absolute dreams, one of them was so amazing when I came home with my baby. I waited a year to get another dog. I would have waited less time but my husband wanted to go abroad, and when we went we were going for a different dog - but they said no, my kid was small. We saw the dog we have now, utterly desperate to get out of kennels, thin and anxious beyond anything I've seen before, and we had him home the next day. He had loads of issues with other dogs but he's been worth every single thing we've had to invest in, time, money, patience, everything. Animals are the best. I hope it's cat time again soon, Alex.

yeah i think it's normal to open an extra savings or checking for various uses lol. i have an additional one that cycles through different uses, like when i saved up to replace my home water filter, then taxes, a car, etc

Correction of the ADHD medication part: ADHD kids are generally prescribed amphetamines. It affects us differently than they affect “normal” people. Sedative medication is often prescribed so we can still sleep and I don’t know for sure that stimulant medication increases the need for sedative medication at night. I’ve struggled with a shitty sleep schedule my whole life lol. Also, there is nonstimulant ADHD medication that is equally as effective, it takes longer to get in your system though.
my views on it are def just anecdotal from seeing my friends go on the meds during grade school since they were considered "bad students" they didn't act like themselves, and could never eat any food. but maybe it's changed since then too, since this was over a decade ago

Correction of the ADHD medication part: ADHD kids are generally prescribed amphetamines. It affects us differently than they affect “normal” people. Sedative medication is often prescribed so we can still sleep and I don’t know for sure that stimulant medication increases the need for sedative medication at night. I’ve struggled with a shitty sleep schedule my whole life lol. Also, there is nonstimulant ADHD medication that is equally as effective, it takes longer to get in your system though.
my views on it are def just anecdotal from seeing my friends go on the meds during grade school since they were considered "bad students"
they didn't act like themselves, and could never eat any food. but maybe it's changed since then too, since this was over a decade ago

Oh man I live in a part of my state that’s ~riddled~ with junkies, and I mean violent people (my town is probably the least safe town in my state and pretty up there on unsafe towns in america) and to hear you say you go up to someone just talking to themselves obviously on something is mind boggling. I’d like to be able to do that, but no way in hell am I gonna put myself at risk of getting jumped or something lmao.
