Get Your Amaryllis Ready For Christmas! | August Tips from Prof. Steve | The Garden Hotline
Professor Steve from the Garden Hotline shares his advice on getting Amaryllis to rebloom for Christmas. He suggests starting in August by browning off the leaves, stopping watering, and placing the plant in a dark, cool area for 10 weeks. This mimics the dormant period needed for the plant to reflower. After the 10 weeks, bring it into the light and resume watering for another 10 weeks, which will lead to a beautiful Christmas display. This technique applies to other plants that require dormancy to bloom and is based on the scientific understanding of their growth cycles. The key is to give the amaryllis the necessary conditions to trick it into blooming for the holiday season.
