I'm surprised Articuno wasn't on the list. I think it's the best bird in rentals. Ice stab is no joke, especially in gen 1 because fire didn't resist ice until gen 2. And also because freeze is basically a one-hit KO.
@@iss2075 Dude Electrode is soooo good in both games in fact. Yeah it's Thunder can miss at times but nothing in those games can outspeed it (though I think Crobat can in 2 correct me if I'm wrong) allowing it to get off powerful Thunder attacks.

I feel that Starmie is missing on this list. Really fast, two great moves in Surf and Thunder and also huge special bulk thanks to Gen 1 mechanics. I cannot express how many times it completely carried my team in the 90s and 00s while I was playing Stadium and for that, it become one of my favourite Pokémon in general :)
Agree with this. Depending on the level you can get a range of psychic, thunder, bubblebeam, etc. Also minimize is a big boost too, but maybe what kept it off the list?
i agree that Starmie is missing, despite i guess minimize being banned- Gen 1 has quite a bag full of water and flying types, and almost all of them don’t have an answer to Starmie. Definitely a missed opportunity to discuss on. looking back, Starmie handles all rock/ground with bubblebeam… all water stand no chance- aside from mayyyybe Lapris because its so tanky, and majority of flying will be taken down… Starmie literally has a counter for like 1/3 of the whole roster. Plus a sweet resistance to physic. oh well
Starmie is a boss! Speed and power stats and awesome movement! Starmie is my go to water Pokémon choice for Pokémon Stadium. It even translated across to playing Pokémon on the GBC
When I was a kid, I didn't pay attention to stats or special and physical splits. Now that I do understand these things, it raises questions if the game creators understood their own rules at the time.
I think they knew what they were doing! They done it on purpose to make you look through and use different Pokémon than just final evolutions or Charizard 😅 or buy the extension pack for GB transfers 🙈 crafty money making ploy
Cool to see Lapras on this list. I have a fond memory of getting to the last battle in the Master Ball Cup in Prime Cup with it and being stressed about winning this fight against Mew. My dad played it for me (with VERY limited Pokémon knowledge lol), used Lapras, shot an Ice Beam at Mew, froze it, and spammed Bubblebeam and KO’d the Mew 😂😂😂 pulling off that win to me even now would still be hard and my dad legit won it by the biggest RNG blessing possible 😂
Thank you Mystic team! This was a great jog down memory lane. I had no idea it was out for switch, definitely going to get it so my kids can make similar memories as me 😁
still holding out hope for a stadium 3 with the rest of the generations. I’d say maybe first 4 generations could be at launch, then maybe 3 DLC. each with like a 2 1, or 3 2. like, one DLC has gen 5 6 and 7, while the other has Gen 8 and 9. if they could get the same team or near close to it to work in the sound department, with elements of the new peeps, that would be epic. even the cries would be great.
This was a fun list. I haven't played Stadium in ages but I remember the struggle of beating Mew at the end of the Prime Cup with my Blue team. The only way I managed to finally beat it was freezing it with Ice Beam and in Gen 1, you never thawed out. You stayed that way. I don't think I ever did well on the other cups but it's cool seeing what would've been good to us. Personally, I never really got the appeal of the non-attacking moves a lot of these guys had. Felt like a waste of a move slot
I used to do battles with rental Pokémon all the time, and this list is incredible. I knew it the second you put Graveler at 10. You might even be underrating Graveler a little bit, tbh. The ability to stop Jolteon and have self-destruct is literally enough to be worth inclusion on your squad.
I first thought why the hell are all the good moves on the weaker pokemon and not on the stronger ones, then I realized maybe that's the point and the reason why you might want to choose Graveler over Golem, do you go for better stats? or better moveset? Lorelei's Jynx is a nightmare.
Being a Gen I competitive player in 1998 must've been wild. Imagine showing up at a tournament with your cart and then getting to play with your Mons for the first time in 3D. Would've been really cool.
At 15:46 the animation for Sand Attack was so cute. I’m not one to complain about Pokémon graphics but after being exposed to the stadium graphics again after years it makes me sad they didn’t find a way to incorporate/polish these graphics for the switch
Woohoo, the stadium video! My buddy and I have been doing battles in stadium 2, and man its crazy trying to use the movesets they give us 😅 its cool that each cup gives each mon its own movesets at least
I was JUST getting back into Stadium and looking through the rental Pokemon trying to find non-shitty movesets. Usually if you can find a Pokemon that has two good moves you're doing good. A LOT of Pokemon are wrecked by the fact that their STAB doesn't match up to their stats. Kingler is a great example where his STAB is Special but his best stat is ATK so he can't even make use of it.
I like the idea of lower stage Pokémon having better moves than the higher level ones. It reflects how lower stage Pokémon learn good moves faster than their evolutions.
Thanks for this video. I have been waiting a while for you to upload this due to NSO not allowing, for some reason, the Old gameboy games be on the service.
