Isn''t the Supreme darker though because the lead is softer? The Supreme would break first because the lead is softer, and you stuck the lead out so far that there was nothing reinforcing it.
I thought the same and then made sure the expensive pencil had a second go with less lead sticking out after the first test failed to beat the cheap one.
I know this is 4 years later but... There also wasn't a 2nd test with the $1 mechanical pencil with a shorter amount of lead. AND the regular mechanical pencil held up to more pressure according the recorded amounts.

well if it is an mechanical pencil you should compare things like is the material durable? will it break easily? its comfortable to use it for many hours or it will make your hand and wrist hurt? if you´re comparing the graphite why not just buy the supreme graphite and use a regular mechanical pencil?

Is it just me, or is it like so fascinating and fun to shop at dollar stores or thrift stores? Like just looking at all of the niCe quality items that are really cheap makes me happy, but going to Michaels and seeing some $5 crayola *12* pack makes me want to die.

I think that the point of an 80 dollar mechanical pencil should be durability: so, resistance to water (yup, I was able to make some RUST), mechanisms that don't get clogged or stuff like that, and so on. So the absence of an eraser makes sense to me: I would want to use an 80 dollar pencil way after the eraser finishes and still have it look new. Instead, the performance of the lead is not so relevant in my opinion: at one point I shall insert lead that isn't original. It doesn't really make the pencil. So I would like to know more about how well the body of the pencil stands time and stress, if it's comfortable to hold, if similar pencils (that can hold different lead sizes) are produced from Kaweco or other brands and how much they cost, and so on. (By the way, is this miraculous lead also produced by Kaweco? It would open the possibility of having the same results for much cheaper!)
I'm a Kaweco fan and have a $20 fountain pen from them with the same size body as this pencil. I also hoped she'd talk about how the pencil felt in her hand, how it was made, whether her hand cramp or anything. I don't think she even mentioned the material the pencil was made out of (aluminum, according to my googling.) It felt like more of a comparison of the leads.
Finally, someone who has the same point like me! It’s a collectors item, and it’s a durable stylish writing instrument. The lead companion really annoyed me. I haven’t seen the leads specifically from kaweco yet, but it’s probably very similar to the ink cartridges, when you buy a fountain pen (let’s say the al sport) you’ll pay about 80€, and it contains a catridge by default. If you were to buy only cartridges, you pay 1,90€ for 5, so about 40ct each. All in all that means that that’s not 80€ ink in the pen, but that the pen is what you pay for
This is what I was hoping for when it came to reviewing pencils. You know there is a difference in quality of led and you actually understand how pencil drawings are suppose to work. (I feel there's not enough artists on youtube who fully understand this it seems) With that said, I am curious what is the most expensive drawing Pencil SET (where it starts from a 2H and goes to 6B or 9B) versus the cheapest and the comparison to that. I always have trouble with the Prisma Drawing Pencils as even the Bs are too hard to get a good darkness payoff (and super metallic when they do go dark, it's not rich like it's suppose to be). I've enjoyed your series and they really are honest and fair.
I'm no expert, but I just got the Koh-I-Noor drawing pencils set (The pecils are the black painted variant if that helps) and while 2H, F and H are hard, most of the B's are really soft and amazing.
@@thenerdybunny1296 2h and H are suppose to be pretty hard so that's a good sign that they're pretty well in range over all. F is kinda a mid point, but HB is the true mid point of any set. So far My two favorites are Faber-Castel and Stadler (Stadler was my first because it was cheaper than Faber-Castel as a set). Derwent is actually pretty decent, but I think they're a tad softer than Stadler overall I think from what I notice. The fact that you started off with a brand that give you a good range will make it easier for you to learn how the pencils are suppose to work and will probably slowly notice the difference as you experiment more with other brands.
The pressure test is more so testing how soft the lead is. Given that is drew so dark on the first test, the lead inside the supreme pencil must be softer than HB which is what is inside the dollar store pencils. Therefore, the pressure test isn't really testing how good the lead is.

That and the suspension mechanics that support the lead... I have a $26 Pentel GraphGear 1000 drafting pencil where it is adjustable to the different hardness of lead. I won't use anything else that isn't a drafting pencil for anything (drawing writing, etc)because it doesn't break as much as a cheap cheap mechanical pencil. With drafting mechanical pencils, I have also found that the lead lasts longer too even with the occasional lead breakage. I have also found that the drafting mechanical pencils there is less breaking of the lead once it's in the pencil that's due to being dropped, thrown, etc...

First of all, the actual pencils will take more pressure because the lead inside is thicker, not so much that it has wood around it. Secondly, a mechanical pencil or otherwise won't really be better unless it's more comfortable to you. Third, the way the KaWeCo pencil is made is what factors the pricing, the metal body and the fact you can apparently use different lead with it. FOURTH comparing something like a mechanical pencil to another is also a strange thing to do because you CAN change the leads which means the overall quality is dependent on your lead selection and if you care about the type of lead it's up to you to change it, they're only going to fill it with something cheap and basic as those who indeed do care will use whatever they prefer regardless.

A good mechanical pencil is one that can take many types of leads but at the end the lead you put in the pencil is more important than the actual pencil.
That test was pointless (pun intended). She was comparing wooden pencil lead to mechanical pencil lead, and that's just being stupid. The lead on a wooden pencil is THICKER. Additionally, it really doesn't matter what kind of graphite we are talking about, it depends on the thickness of the lead (the diameter of the lead).
Well, a packet of 20 pencils for a dollar makes each pencil 5 cents. Maybe there where even more pencils in that packet, which makes them even cheaper. So it's close to zero. But you're right, not zero per se. And maybe she called it $0 because she had them lying around so she didn't have to purchase them.

Actually, the led was the same. Supreme gives you the same led, but you can buy different led for it.

I think that the point of an 80 dollar mechanical pencil should be durability: so, resistance to water (yup, I was able to make some RUST), mechanisms that don't get clogged or stuff like that, and so on. So the absence of an eraser makes sense to me: I would want to use an 80 dollar pencil way after the eraser finishes and still have it look new.
Instead, the performance of the lead is not so relevant in my opinion: at one point I shall insert lead that isn't original. It doesn't really make the pencil.
So I would like to know more about how well the body of the pencil stands time and stress, if it's comfortable to hold, if similar pencils (that can hold different lead sizes) are produced from Kaweco or other brands and how much they cost, and so on.
(By the way, is this miraculous lead also produced by Kaweco? It would open the possibility of having the same results for much cheaper!)
I'm a Kaweco fan and have a $20 fountain pen from them with the same size body as this pencil. I also hoped she'd talk about how the pencil felt in her hand, how it was made, whether her hand cramp or anything. I don't think she even mentioned the material the pencil was made out of (aluminum, according to my googling.) It felt like more of a comparison of the leads.
Finally, someone who has the same point like me! It’s a collectors item, and it’s a durable stylish writing instrument. The lead companion really annoyed me. I haven’t seen the leads specifically from kaweco yet, but it’s probably very similar to the ink cartridges, when you buy a fountain pen (let’s say the al sport) you’ll pay about 80€, and it contains a catridge by default. If you were to buy only cartridges, you pay 1,90€ for 5, so about 40ct each. All in all that means that that’s not 80€ ink in the pen, but that the pen is what you pay for

This is what I was hoping for when it came to reviewing pencils. You know there is a difference in quality of led and you actually understand how pencil drawings are suppose to work. (I feel there's not enough artists on youtube who fully understand this it seems) With that said, I am curious what is the most expensive drawing Pencil SET (where it starts from a 2H and goes to 6B or 9B) versus the cheapest and the comparison to that. I always have trouble with the Prisma Drawing Pencils as even the Bs are too hard to get a good darkness payoff (and super metallic when they do go dark, it's not rich like it's suppose to be). I've enjoyed your series and they really are honest and fair.
I'm no expert, but I just got the Koh-I-Noor drawing pencils set (The pecils are the black painted variant if that helps) and while 2H, F and H are hard, most of the B's are really soft and amazing.
@@thenerdybunny1296 2h and H are suppose to be pretty hard so that's a good sign that they're pretty well in range over all. F is kinda a mid point, but HB is the true mid point of any set. So far My two favorites are Faber-Castel and Stadler (Stadler was my first because it was cheaper than Faber-Castel as a set). Derwent is actually pretty decent, but I think they're a tad softer than Stadler overall I think from what I notice. The fact that you started off with a brand that give you a good range will make it easier for you to learn how the pencils are suppose to work and will probably slowly notice the difference as you experiment more with other brands.

The pressure test is more so testing how soft the lead is. Given that is drew so dark on the first test, the lead inside the supreme pencil must be softer than HB which is what is inside the dollar store pencils. Therefore, the pressure test isn't really testing how good the lead is.

So you're reviewing the lead more than anything here...
That and the suspension mechanics that support the lead... I have a $26 Pentel GraphGear 1000 drafting pencil where it is adjustable to the different hardness of lead.
I won't use anything else that isn't a drafting pencil for anything (drawing writing, etc)because it doesn't break as much as a cheap cheap mechanical pencil.
With drafting mechanical pencils, I have also found that the lead lasts longer too even with the occasional lead breakage.
I have also found that the drafting mechanical pencils there is less breaking of the lead once it's in the pencil that's due to being dropped, thrown, etc...

First of all, the actual pencils will take more pressure because the lead inside is thicker, not so much that it has wood around it. Secondly, a mechanical pencil or otherwise won't really be better unless it's more comfortable to you. Third, the way the KaWeCo pencil is made is what factors the pricing, the metal body and the fact you can apparently use different lead with it. FOURTH comparing something like a mechanical pencil to another is also a strange thing to do because you CAN change the leads which means the overall quality is dependent on your lead selection and if you care about the type of lead it's up to you to change it, they're only going to fill it with something cheap and basic as those who indeed do care will use whatever they prefer regardless.

A good mechanical pencil is one that can take many types of leads but at the end the lead you put in the pencil is more important than the actual pencil.

Um the second test is a little rigged. You have to make sure you're holding the pencils at the same angle cause that will make a difference!!
That test was pointless (pun intended). She was comparing wooden pencil lead to mechanical pencil lead, and that's just being stupid. The lead on a wooden pencil is THICKER. Additionally, it really doesn't matter what kind of graphite we are talking about, it depends on the thickness of the lead (the diameter of the lead).

Well, a packet of 20 pencils for a dollar makes each pencil 5 cents. Maybe there where even more pencils in that packet, which makes them even cheaper. So it's close to zero. But you're right, not zero per se. And maybe she called it $0 because she had them lying around so she didn't have to purchase them.
