Still with 3060 12gb and 1060. Have considered a 7900XTX and PSU upgrades also. It's okay for now, Mostly a result of the 2020 gpu crisis obtanium. My spare computer for home theatre has a better tier psu than my gaming one. It works, raids FSR (goblin raids atm are painful fps dips in WoW), and runs D4 great though, myeh.

As far as gaming is concerned, I'll probably only use Emulation on it. I am mainly concerned about using it for streaming (will be using NDI on OBS) and video editing. I will be pairing it with my extra CPU that I have which is a Ryzen 5700x I got on sale recently.

@@domesticdingo1417 WELL, the bloody 4060 ti has 128 bit memory bus, compare this with your 1060 FE which had 192 bit. My GTX 1070 8GB has 256bit memory bus. You can pretty much spend $100 more and get the 4060TI 16GB version, but it's a waste of money, same trash, double the RAM, same 128bit memory bus. You might think memory bandwidth is no big deal, well in many games it is, it can make a difference between stuttering frame rates and smooth game play - it looks like nowadays if you want smooth and high to ultra settings you need to spend thousands of $ on the high end shit that will become obsolete in 6 months.

    • @DisgruntledRTFan

@@jimmydandy9364 Nah, not thousands. If it's just gaming, the 6800 non-XT is a great option if you pick it up used for 380-400 USD. 60 fps ultra settings most games at 4k, 100+ at 1440p, and 130+ at 1080p. All with 16GB of VRAM. Honestly one if the best priced used GPUs right now for higer-end stuff.

@@jimmydandy9364 Exactly right on the importance of memory bus bandwidth. These 128-bit bus cards are nice for some games, but I'll take a 256-bit or more card all day long. 8gb ram is still fine for any game that isn't mid-2022. Having more vram is nice, but absolutely not necessary. Raytracing is still in its infancy, so imho, not worth worrying about. Even in Cyberpunk it's not really that noticeable on my 3080 12gb and regular raster runs far better. If you're rendering in Blender, then yeah, Nvidia is a better gpu. Apart from that, it's a crapshoot.

PC gaming is dying, and it has been for years, which is why only hard core enthusiast remain while the rest progressively moves to handhelds and gaming consoles.
Considering the pricing over the last 5 years+, it isn't exactly surprising.
This however means that not only are games developed for consoles first, but with PCs now barely in mind. This isn't all that bad considering that many consoles use PC hardware internally, but your PC should at least reach the same specs as these consoles for ports to work well, and if we have a look at them ... :
    PS 5:
    - AMD Zen 2 Ryzen Octacore @ 3.5 GHz
    - AMD RDNA 2 GPU @2.23GHz with 10.3 TF
    - 16GB GDDR6-RAM ( Shared, 2GB for OS/System, 14GB for everything else )
    - 512MB DDR4 RAM ( Low Performance Tasks )
    - NVMe SSD Storage
    Xbox X:
    - AMD Zen 2 Ryzen Octacore @ 3.66 GHz
    - AMD RDNA 2 GPU @1.825GHz with 12 TF
    - 16GB GDDR6-RAM ( Shared, 10GB GPU, 3.5GB App./Game, 2.5GB OS/System )
    - NVMe SSD Storage
Going from that what you actually need for gaming using currently available new hardware is:
    - Ryzen 7 4700G, Ryzen 7 5700(X/G), Intel Core i7-10700F
    - AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT 12GB / NVidia RTX 3060 12GB
    - 8GB RAM ( 6 doesn't work going dual channel, and Windows should be fed with at least 16GB these days anyhow )
    - NVMe SSD Storage 512GB ( Windows has no trouble eating half that after but a couple of month )
... which also about matches the benchmark based hardware recommendations for mid-range gaming - the one with very good FullHD performance.
I'd recommend the Ryzen 5700X or if you are serious the Ryzen 5800X3D though, 32GB DDR4-3600 ( going XMP 3200 ) to get the best out of your system and enough for years to come, and at least 1TB SSD storage because not only does it provide space for avid gamers but also adds to the lifetime of your SSD.
Also, price conscious buyers should best avoid both Intel and NVidia, so the "Radeon RX 6700 XT 12GB" would be it.

Great Video! However, strictly from an upgrade viewpoint, I do not agree with "If you're spending around 1100 dollars on a 4080, then you might as well go ahead and find a couple hundred bucks to get a 4090" due to the 4090 requiring more power than a 4080, thus forcing most people to get a new power supply. I upgraded to a 4080 from a 3060ti and did not need to upgrade my 750 W PSU (more than enough power!). So, if you are reading this and are looking upgrade your GPU to play 4K and don't want to spend an extra $600 + ~$200 for the 4090 plus new PSU, the 4080 is perfect for 4K gaming!

Hello Jason. I feel that a good video idea would be your opinion on when it makes sense for a consumer to take the jump to the next tier of gaming experience.
Like, if it really worth to spend on a better 1080p rig when you already have something that can deliver 1080p60, or given the price x performance, is a better idea to get a 1440p60 rig instead.
Or if 1440p60 is valuable enough to upgrade from 1080p60 when the difference is only really noticeable if you go all the way to 1440p144.

Hi Jason love your channel. Could you point me one of your builds for a 1080 gamer build? I'm upgrading from a GPU: GTX 1070 Founders Edition PNY, 16GB Corsair Led 3200MHz ASrock AB350 Pro4?

I bit the bullet and finally upgraded from 1080ti to 4090. Also from ryzen 1700x to 7800x3d, so hopefully that system will last at least as long as the previous one, 6,5 years. Havent seen any meaningful graphical improvement in games of the last 8 years tbh, but the requirements continue to skyrocket, so gotta sacrifice.

I have a question: I am not a gamer and I built an HTPC computer to run cool and silent with a fanless 600w power supply. I have a Gigabyte B650I AORUS Ultra mini-ITX motherboard and AMD Ryzen 7700 APU. My question is: would I see any difference in my videos that I watch or my pictures, if instead of using the motherboard built in graphics I buy a video card? And if so, which one would you recommend that I won't need a second mortgage for and can be used with a 600w power supply? Thank you in advance!

What do you think about the 3060ti? I’ve always heard that it outperforms the 3060 non-ti 12GB version, even though it only has 8GB of VRAM. I personally have a 3060ti and am wondering if the 8GBs of VRAM are still considered better than the 12GBs from the non-ti model.

I was considering a 3060Ti 18 months ago. It's a 3070 GPU with a narrow memory bus to slow it down. And it produces something like 33% more teraflops (16 vs. 12) compared to the 3060. But today, 8GB GPUs are a huge mistake. You'd be much much better-off with a 6700 xt, or 6750 xt, with 12 GB. I have a 3070 Ti which I am thinking of trading for a 16GB GPU because I know it will be too limited very very soon ...

Just bought a 3060Ti, definitely worth the extra $80-$100 then getting the 3060.

@@jakek3653 I have to agree I almost bought a 3060 Ti but I won the newegg shuffle and got the 3070 Ti for the same overpriced amount during the covid shortages ...
