An interesting variant. It seems the smaller engine has enough usable power to make it similar to a Miata. I mean that in a flattering light, regarding a driver's ability to use more of the car's driving dynamics on public back roads versus having overwhelming power (like the 6) that can only be best used on a track. Won't have to hold back on the 4 as much as with the larger 6. Better balance aids the driving experience (again) on back roads. If that's the promise of the Supra-4, this video shows it to be a promise delivered. Thank you for the review, and illuminating the alternative.
@@mlee6136 I was referring to the potential handling balance (being more favorable than the larger heavier engine). More of a dancer/momentum car, maybe.
That's an interesting way to look at it you might be right!!this might be one of the more helpful comments I've ever read on RUclips.... but to be honest it's still probably doesn't change the fact that when I go get one I'm still probably going for the six it's got that three liter inline

In the future those 4-cylinder cars will be great donor cars for body parts. Nobody really wants 4-cylinder if there is option for 6-cylinder, especially when it is a b58 engine.
If the 4 cylinder can handle around 400whp, it’d be a bargain with its better balance. Unfortunately, it doesn’t come with some of the performance parts from the 6 cylinder
i think toyota have priced themselves out of the market with the 4 cyl supra. if you put the approx $40k usd price aside, the specs are ok, around golf gti/r territory, and offering a more compelling drive than a miata / mx5. other options include: wrx sti, civic type r, nissan 370 z, camaro lt1, dodge challenger, ford mustang (460hp for $36k?!), audi a4 in 45 tsfi guise, tesla model 3 (one of the fastest options here). for my money i would be looking very closely at tesla and audi. the other options im afraid are a bit knuckle scraper.
Meanwhile in America, they complain that the 4-cylinder didn't have enough power and the main purpose of the 4-cylinder is for "2jZ sWaPs". For everyday use and weekend spirited driving, I think this one is a good choice than the 6-cyl; because not everyone wanted (or use) all the horsepower anyway.
I thought this car was hideous when it first came out but the design has really grown on me! You can also get this engine in the new Morgan Plus Four! :-)
No manual, no care. Should have had a manual option year 1. Now I don't even think BMW/Toyota will give it a manual. Such a shame. Irritated that they didn't fix the wind buffering issue with the windows open.
If they made a manuel and people weren't buying them as much as manuels for a car that hasn't been in the market for 2 decades doesn't sound smart in any case.
I like the 3.0 as the BMW straight six suits the Supra very well but the 2.0 is great as it is more affordable, lighter, and economical In a way this is like the affordable sports car Really glad that Toyota made this car!
Toyota says we relied on BMW because we don’t have L6 engines line. But now toyota relies on BMW although they have 4 cylinder engines line. They lied again. This car is built by lies
40is are pretty reliable. Id say more reliable than the 35i(N55/N54) BMW's. Rarely ever have problems present if taken care of correctly. The B48 I'm not sure but its basically like the B58 just smaller.
I don't know but keeping it unique with the b58 for its character will be better special with the new kid on the block mid engine corvette. Buyer: " why buying the supra? people may just think it's a 4 cylinders tiny BMW"
Way too easy an explanation. Check this video: ruclips.net/video/atNosTtdUaE/видео.html If they were the same, the results wouldn't be as such. Also about the development process: ruclips.net/video/_jbyzmtgU_0/видео.html In terms of driving, the ratio between the wheelbase and track width was decided on by Toyota which is why the Z4 has that as well. The engine and differential is BMW, but Toyota oversaw the quality and looking at the quality reputation of BMW in recent years, this is a very good thing.

good point!
This 4 cyl is way more powerful than miata, 2 different animals.

Watching Thomas in California in Full Screen 2:27 hours. Great content.
best greetings!
best car reviews on yt, end of.

I feel like with a manual it world target people who want a faster gt86 but cant afford the i6 supra

True, I’m sure the 4 cylinder Supra will be too soft to be in that category
i mean the 330i bmws with the b48 go for around 40k. also not everything in a car is about hp
Can’t wait to check the full length version. Thank you Thomas and stay safe.
you too! Full length tomorrow - including esc off driving part =)
Real excited for the full-length review!
coming tomorrow =)
I like the outside from the Supra and the Interior from the Bimmer... Maybe they should collaborate... Oh wait. :) Good review Thomas!
Thanks! 👍

I feel like I'm inside the dealership by the way you talk. impressive
welcome! Please recommend us :-)

Thanks Thomas...great looking 2 door...the 4cyl @ 235HP would be fine. Lots of sports car owners are preferring 4 cyl's I see.
Bondi Steve yeah, just like I’d rather have the 4 cylinder turbo on the Porsche caymans rather than the heavier and less torque 6 cylinder.
@@matthewyang2792 Stunning technology today....Ta!
I like this reviewer!
thanks for the video! i really wanted to hear the 2.0 exhaust and see the driving dynamics.
cheers! Also enjoy the longer version that is airing today at our main channel (linked in video description)

Really glad that Toyota made this car!
Damn I love the 2.0 wheel design so cartoonish when u stare directly at em they look good especially on the fat tire size
Is that B48 motor?
Yes it is!
Toyota and Lexus are the most reliable brand in the world 💪
The title 4-cyl. vs. 6-cyl. is misleading. Where is the comparison? I watched until 6:35 not even numbers comparison on screen.
We rarely do overlays. 6-cylinder episode is here: ruclips.net/video/AZybkmOfS00/видео.html
I talk a lot about the differences 4 and 6cyl model
If this looks a little bit closer to Toyota FT1 I’ll buy it.
4 cylinder I love 2litter which you shown now what was the millage per litter
More details here: ruclips.net/video/ZWQpfRzOQBo/видео.html
Toyota says we relied on BMW because we don’t have L6 engines line. But now toyota relies on BMW although they have 4 cylinder engines line. They lied again. This car is built by lies
Toyota has the best 4 cylinder engine lines in the world, why would they rely on BMW ? Toyota just wants to exploit the name
I love BMWs but this Toyota is so much better looking than the Z4, that for me there is no room for comparison.
If toyota is using B48 and B58 motor. Does that mean bimmer 330i and 340i are reliable?
40is are pretty reliable. Id say more reliable than the 35i(N55/N54) BMW's. Rarely ever have problems present if taken care of correctly. The B48 I'm not sure but its basically like the B58 just smaller.
I wanted the 4 till I watched what meth injection & a straight pipe can do to the 6 cyl & get 33 mpg. 2021 supra...
10kx surprise?
I prefer a Miata
4 cylinders is not a subpra :)
Der Sound is ja schlecht was is da los für ein 4 zylinder turbo geht da mehr
wurde dieses Modell extra paar cm höher gelegt zwecks offroad Eigenschaften ??
Straight six cylinder engine is better !!!
I don't know but keeping it unique with the b58 for its character will be better special with the new kid on the block mid engine corvette.
Buyer: " why buying the supra? people may just think it's a 4 cylinders tiny BMW"
The Supra isn't a Toyota. Its a BMW that identifies as a Toyota.
Way too easy an explanation.

2020 and still he hasnt improved his english.
But he got stylish by showing his BELT!
thank you very much for this helpful comment!
WTF you'reon about? His English is superb. He might have a distinctive German accent, but grammar,0 vocabulary and overall fluency are spot on.
