    As a 2L owner myself, I'll always defend it. I'll never argue with more power for smiles, but the turn-in on this thing with the smaller engine is a hoot!
    Though the main reason why I bought it is because my dealer actually marked it down to $40K because no one wanted it lmao (top trim, too)

    Nice review. As an owner of the car I can tell you really spent some time getting the feel of it before reviewing. I use my 2022 2.0 as my daily driver. It has PLENTY of power for around town and on the highway and it’s is a joy to drive on extended rides thru the mountains. I don’t care that is not the fastest thing on the road because I enjoy the overall experience. My grandma’s Tesla can embarrass most exotic cars in a straight line so 0-60 times are no longer relevant to me.

      @@wraith511802003 It rides well. The longest road trip I have taken it on is 4 hours. I felt great and only stopped for gas if needed. The car is comfortable but I would not have an open container w/o a lid as it does have a sports suspension. It would be best to take one for a test drive to see if you like it. I think the suspension is perfect for me.

    Thanks for being of the few youtubers to review the 2.0 Supra. If Toyota updated the infotainment to include Android Auto in the future, I might consider trading my Veloster N DCT if I can find a lightly used one for around $35k. I think this will see a lot more discounts and depreciate faster since no one buys the 2.0L lol. I drove the 3.0 before and I would definitely get into trouble with it. This one is fast enough for me to have fun with. And the great fuel economy is a nice bonus.

    Kirk, I drove the 2.0 recently for nearly a week. I agree with your points about the 2.0 being much more powerful than you would expect a 2.0 to be, but personally I don’t think I could stomach nearly 50k for it when the gr86 exist and offers somewhat similar performance figures. I would save up and extra 6k and get a 3.0. It’s still a good car, but it’s def in a weird place to me, in Toyotas GR lineup.

      You could could probably get a slightly used one for cheaper (low 40k range) considering how abundant they are because nobody is buying them much. New 86s are still hard to come by and most will be marked up well into the 40k range anyway, not to mention a majority of used ones are autos too.

    • @Millipoint
      @Millipoint 2 года назад

      @@GT-RTData9 like I said, I personally wouldn’t even consider the 2.0 Supra. I know some people like it, but 40ish thousand is just a weird budget for a sports car to me. It’s more than necessary for a good one (miata/86) and not enough to get you great ones. I wish the 2.0 Supra didn’t exist so we could get a 40k turbo 86. That would be perfect.

    Still on the fence on the 2.0 and here is my personal opinion. If you are getting this car purely for the looks of the 3.0, then it has done its job. If it is performance, Toyota has different offerings for similar power for cheaper, i.e. GR86. For me, I still don't understand why the 2.0 was created, but I am sure there was some joint agreement between BMW and Toyota to have X amount of cars produced in their factory. But I foresee in a few decade, these cars going for very cheap and people picking them up to motor swap them if the ICE survives the EV revolution.

    I don’t understand why people don’t just install the strut tower braces from the 3.0 on this car. Toyota added them for rigidity, and that is the advantage that people say the 3.0 Carries over this car. I would think adding it to this 2.0 would help transform the front end of this car and make it even more responsive.

  • @postalpancho
    @postalpancho 2 года назад +8

    The 2.0 only sin is being too expensive. Considering you get no LSD, small brakes and BMW old idrive7, it is not a great bargain. I got my 2023 230i with the M sport ELSD, and 4 piston brakes with more options and IDrive8 for under $45k. If the 2.0 Supra started at $40k even it would make better sense. The 2.0 Supra is a great car but overpriced.
    If a 4 cylinder is going to be playing footsy with $50k it better bring legit performance options with it like other 4 bangers in this segment. Quick car and will make a great daily but Toyota stripped all of the performance out of it. They should have left a $3k performance package to get the LSD and brakes from the 3.0

      BMW doesn't assemble the Zupra or Z4. It is assembled in Austria by Canadian multinational Magna in a dedicated low-volume assembly line (think Honda's PRC in OH or the line where Dodge Vipers were made in Mi).
      It was each automaker who decides how many cars they build for each brand.
      The I4 Zupra is the reason there's no GRMN 86 (T-2.4L H4), as that model would be priced in the same range or slighly above the I4 Zupra.
      The GR86 is only slighly smaller than the Zupra.

      What pretty much everyone understands it should be in a GRMN (or an STi for Subaru) is forced induction via turbocharging or supercharging to the existing engine (now the 2.4L H4) and that hadn't happened to any production model, only to concept cars.

      @@electrikoptik - again, what engine powered the Castrol Supra?
      Funny enough, the platform for BOTH THE Z4 AND SUPRA isn't based on any BMW has made in the paast, Toyota has much, much more leeway and say when developing the CLAR-based one. Besides, having a BMW part number doesn't exactly mean the part made by BMW (especially since they and Toyota get a lot of them from external suppliers and simply put their stickers).

      @@pmayo7894 Have you seen the MK5 Supra in detail? My brother owns one. Open the engine you will see BMW logo’s on everything. Go underneath the car and you will again see BMW logos everywhere. On the driver-side door jam area you will see a VIN sticker and what does it say? ‘MFD BY BAYERISCHE MOTOREN WERKE AG’. This is a MK5 vin number ‘WZ1DB4C54KW000014’ decode it and tell me what you see.

      @@electrikoptik - I did a couple of times and already took note on the BMW logos. Again, BMW (and Toyota) get a lot of their parts from elsewhere and simply put their stickers on them.
      Besides, aren't the two cars made by Magna Steyr (which also happens to make other cars for other manufacturers like Mercedes-Benz and Jaguar)?
