Nissan has body-on-frame platforms that Honda can utilize; a Frontier/titan based Ridgeline? Armada based Pilot or something similar to the Pilot? Nissan also has it's foot in other industries like forklift etc that Honda could get some market share of
The Japanese government is going to provide some pretty cheap loans to Honda so they can buy Nissan for a song and support their employees for a while. They'll keep pumping cars as a way to keep the old Nissan employees occupied until they retire, and then they'll close the company. The goal is to avoid mass layoffs that would have a negative impact on a struggling Japanese economy.
Zero Gravity seats, bigger batteries that allow Honda to start making full EVs, BOF platform if Honda wanted to make a BOF truck, and from Mitsubishi, AWD and some components for hybrid systems since Honda and Mitsu have similar hybrids systems. But expect it to be mutual since Honda can supply 10ATs and CVTs that can replace the ZF9 and JATCO CVTs, atkinson engines for hybrids, ergonomical interiors with physical buttons.
you say Nissan’s lack of hybrids is what made them not competitive, but Mazda has been without hybrids up until the last year, yet they aren’t struggling.
The thing about nissan is that they don't compete with anyone at their price point. The Nissan Altima base price isn't that different from the toyota camry LE yet the camry comes standard features, more reliability, and a robust transmission. Even the honda accord offers more than the nissan altima. Not to mention that nissans aren't that reliable and the resale value suffers because it. So new buyers gravitate towards the toyota/Honda just by default.
The thing about Mazda is that they have a higher quality interior and rising reliability. The new cx50 hybrid even comes with a rav 4 hybrid drive train. This isn't surprising since toyota and mazda use the same factories now
When the Korean cars started their 100k warranties they stole the Nissan and Mazda market share. Mazda went slightly upscale and survived with help from Toyota (they are sort of like the Buick or Audi in Toyota's lineup, sort of), while Nissan tried to out economy car the Koreans and lost, the partnership with Renault was not exactly a huge help in the long run either. They would have been better off joining up with Honda a few decades ago when they were in trouble in the early 2000's.
If this goes through… Honda can give their current hybrid powertrains to Nissan so they can quickly pump out hybrids at a lower cost while Honda brings out their next gen hybrids so they have a leg up. Nissan can help Honda with their body on frame platforms for trucks and suvs And they should keep Mitsubishi as a hybrid/plug in manufacture being that the Outlander plug in is successful for them. And the biggest plus out of all of this is Honda can have Nissan use their CVT’s and even the 2.0 NA and 1.5t Engines to help Nissan with their reliability
@ yes!!! I see it more as using the platforms from the QX80 and QX90 to help out the MDX by either increasing its size to truly compete with the new players on the luxury 3-row SUV market like the Lexus TX. Orrr they can keep it as a mid-size SUV, refine it some more and introduce a new/bigger model to compete in that space!
@@truckercowboyed2638 although I do agree with this. I think the best thing to do would be to scrap that transmission overall. It’ll “show face” and sit well with the general public because no one wants to deal or take the risk with their CVTs
With all due respect I don’t see Honda needing Nissan nor actually wanting to sell rebadged frontiers considering how ancient the frontier platform actually is
They took relatively reliable vehicles and cut corners to the point they fall apart within a few years. They know they lost their prior customer base, so they go after low income customers with financing arrangements that sometimes involve predatory loans. Imagine a return of the 240SX or a Skyline refresh.
You do realize that Nissan has been releasing new products without a CVT transmission and the new products they do aren't nearly has problematic as before.
@dennisscipio that's few and far between. I'm a Nissan owner of an 06 Sentra and Altima. I've followed closely the drop on quality with Nissan thanks to the inclusion of those Jatco Transmissions. It's been just last two years they've try to get better but their reputation is ruined. Recently replaced my 06 Altima with a Mazda CX-5 since we didn't want to risk getting another Nissan. Hope with Honda getting them helps them out get back to their glory days.
What Honda can help Nissan drop is the infamous ZF9 transmission found in larger cars. The 10AT is more reliable. Honda CVTs are more reliable than JATCO CVTs by a small margin nowadays but their 10ATs are more reliable than the ZF9 by a big margin. In fact, Honda used to use the ZF9 that Nissan uses but developed a 10AT in house and quickly phased out the ZF9 because of reliability issues with the ZF9
Nissan put extensive work into revising that CVT for their vehicles to improve its reliability in the last couple years. What was a reliability nightmare, isn't the case now. But Nissan has been working to push AT's for their larger vehicles to combat the continued perception of performance and reliability issues. But like any AT, CVTs also should be serviced at higher frequency intervals than listed by the manufacturer - if you want a trouble free car that'll make it to 150k - 200k miles.
@ problem is that Nissan sources their ATs from ZF. Remember, this is basically the same automatic transmission that Honda used to use, and Honda did not have a great run with this transmission
Retired but had much experience working closely with the Japanese auto companies in Japan and North America. Of the big companies Toyota and Honda were the best that truly focused on building a quality vehicle. Nissan’s focus on quality was not even close, especially its North American operations. A Honda merger with Nissan in my opinion would be detrimental to Honda’s great culture and not work.
Here’s what I want: Honda sticks with Sony for EVs, Nissan gets snapped up by Foxconn and revived, Mitsubishi gets sold back to the Mitsubishi Group companies.
Honda lacks a full size SUV or a full size (and honestly a midsize) pickup. A Honda Titan, Frontier, and/or Armada would be awesome to see. Not likely to happen, but I would be all over a Honda Titan.
Nissan(For most of Asia/Pacific)lacks a proper small car.Imagine you had the last of the Pulsars and being told you have to buy a Juke or a Qashqai to stay in the brand or go elsewhere.CVT's aside I would have no issues getting a 2013-2017 Hatch providing the owners look after it and it has a proper service history.
And noone should be surprised since the only reason a competing brand would acquire 45% of a company is to get all the knowledge they can from the acquired company and then dump after they got all they were worth. Nissan ended as Nissan in 1999 and if you look at the car lineup since 1999 you'd see a clear delineation between pre-1999 Nissan cars and post-1999 "Nissan" cars.
If a merger were to happen, I would assume it would be under a shareholder company, as I would assume Honda, Nissan, and Mitsubishi would still be competitors, of course, but of course, they would share technologies. As they would still operate their respective brands as well as luxury Acura and Infiniti brands respectively. Honda has Hybrid technology, Nissan has some EV experience, e-Power series Hybrids, body-on-frame Trucks & SUVS, Mitusbishi has PHEV, and AWD (S-AWC) technology they could benefit from each other. Also, I find it hard to believe that Nissan has 12-14 months to survive, considering it's a rather large company (than other smaller automakers) as Nissan still has a alliance with Renault, and there are still several new products they plan to launch down the pipeline. Sometimes, you shouldn't always believe what you see on the internet. I would say it would be more "Manageable" since they would have 5 brands under their belt: Honda, Acura, Nissan, Infiniti, Mitsubishi compared to say Volkswagen Group, and Stellantis who have a lot more.
There is no car company that doesn’t share tech between brands. Mazda and Subaru under Toyota are the closes to that and even then Subaru and Mazda are now using some elements from Toyota. As for Stellantis, that’s just because that merger is too new
All 3 brands have very similar hybrid tech. Honda’s hybrids is basically e-power with direct drive modes. Only differences between Outlander and CRV hybrids is that Outlander is PHEV and uses E-AWD instead of M-AWD, and it lacks an Atkinson engine
the collape of Nissan is inevitable. This company is a walking husk of a shell. Dealing with the sub prime leaders and other low credit buyers that has low credit scores that I wouldn't trust to finance a pack of chewing gum. Bad CVT transmissions that would fail just by glancing at them the wrong way.
Yeah but there’s a reason why a care like this doesn’t exist. There’s no why you can check all the boxes a car enthusiast wants and still make affordable. Not only that the demand for a such car is still low. Look at cars like the gr86 and the BRZ. Those cars combined only sell around 15k units a year.
@@DeadAir21yeah sports cars are not the only type of vehicle to define the brand. Or Allow it to survive. Think about Toyota you think they would be as successful if they didn’t make the RAV4, Highlander, Corolla, or Camry? Nope those are the money makers and the sports cars really only attract enthusiasts. There are brand enthusiasts too. People who only buy this brand of car, I think we all know someone whose parents drove a Corolla/Civic, their first car was a used Corolla/Civic, and then their first new car was a Corolla/civic or a car from the brand. And as long as they continue to make quality cars, which they still are to this day, then the cycle will continue.
@@hitek9too255The Z gets dog walked by the new Mustang it's not even funny. The GTR is beyond outdated and gets outpaced by cars like the 718 Cayman and C8 Z06.
Kirk, It looks like Nissan is finding a path towards an accord with Honda. 😉 As you mentioned, Nissan stock jumped and Honda stock slumped when this news came out. 🤑🤑
The ridgeline gets rebadged as a frontier, the frontier in my opinion is the best mid size truck to buy rn. They bring back the S16 with the Honda civic type R motor. Nissan has to bring back the Xterra. Bring back the titan(maybe even rebadge it as a Honda because Honda will actually market it) Mitsubishi to make cheap economy cars, maybe just maybe bring back the EVO. Mistsubishi can even rebadge the Xterra if they make as a montero. Nissan starts using Hondas CVT’s Make more hybrids.
You can't overstate the political importance of this story. Mitsubishi makes a lot more than offbeat cars, they are heavily involved in various satellite and space programs, and manufacture 20-30% of various Boeing airliners. They also make the massive car ferries that get Toyota across the ocean, cruise ships, and significant military vessels. Probably the single most important company to Japan's interests. Even if this deal only affects Mistubishi Motors, the name and its ownership means a lot.
MItsubishi group has less than 25% stake in MItsubishi Motors, and Nissan is the largest share holder at 34%. Mitsubishi Heavy Industry is integral to the national security of Japan, but MHI has little to do with Mitsubishi Motors today.
I agree the name means a lot and that’s why I want Mitsubishi to be sold back to the Mitsubishi Group. Mitsubishi could be a great car company again if they had a parent group that was more involved and interested in reviving them than Nissan was for the last 8yrs. I mean they can share tech with Nissan but I think the primary backing for MMC should be the Mitsubishi Group and not Nissan. Nissan is too incompetent.
Carlos brought CVTs to Nissan which destroyed them and Infiniti. Nissan needs to add more horsepower and torque to most of their vehicles so they are better highway vehicles. Improved acceleration to 60mph is important for daily commutes. Versa: 150hp/145lbft Sentra: 179hp/176lbft Senta SR: 190hp/186lbft Altima: 238hp/230lbft Altima SE/SL: 268hp/260lbft Leaf: 60kwh battery is standard with 80kwh optional Kicks: 180hp/175lbft Kicks SR: 191hp/185lbft I almost forgot: Pathfinder: 300hp/300lbft Pathfinder Rock Creek Edition/Platinum: 330hp/345lbft Make the vehicles more competitive and more fun to drive.
@magnoliap5824 Thanks. I listed what the power output should be for Nissan vehicles to be more competitive in the market, especially the small vehicles.
I put my vote on Foxxcon over Honda and hear me out. Honda would be a short term solution for Nissan. At the end of the day they are both major companies in the same industry in need of development towards the same goal. BUT, Foxxcon is a tech company with a shitload of cash that they’re dying to invest into something. If they can get Nissan, Nissan would be saved and they have the potential of being the next big thing. Foxxcon also can work with Nissan’s alliance members Mitsubishi and Renault, whereas Honda would sever ties with Renault and leverage for parts procurement would have to be completely restructured and would take much longer and cost a lot of money. Also, Honda already has Sony as their tech guru to rely on for the advanced technology development, so they really have no business in helping out Nissan except maybe out of obligation to a fellow Japanese automaker. So I would want Nissan to choose Foxxcon and let Honda do its thing. The culture clash would be too much for either company as Honda is too conservative while Nissan is a (pun intended) rogue company.
I think Nissan and Honda have too many cars that compete in the same markets. I dont see the point of Honda buying Nissan to compete with their cars- Accord-Civic-HRV-CRV- and other SUVs/Trucks/Vans. Honda doesnt make the FIT anymore, and I think theres a place for an entry level car, so if Honda can drivetrain swap the Sentra, and add hybrid system to it, might not be a bad idea. Nissans large suvs-trucks could be continued and reengineered. Nissan should continue their sports car RWD platform. Maybe make a new one that could make a Nissan Z, 240SX, S-2000, and infiniti Sedans(wondering if that brand should continue, and just fold those cars to Acura?) . I would say nissans EVs they should keep and expand the offerings. I think Honda could leverage the civic platform to make an Altima coupe. I think its a matter of deciding what to keep. Honda also benefits from Nissans manufacturing plants as well to expand.
It’s not necessarily competing with each other as they would have if they were independent. Mergers like this will basically saturate markets, give consumers the illusion of choice while the combined company save on the cost of R&D, and production with shared parts, technology, vehicle platform. A larger company with high volume of cars will have more market power, negotiation power and reach within its supply chain.
"Honda doesnt make the FIT anymore..." Honda are still producing the Fit. They only stopped selling the Fit in the U.S. years earlier while continuing to sell it in Japan, Europe and SE Asia (marketed as Jazz for the latter two regions).
They have a pretty good overlap of what either does best. The Versa is actually a pretty decent car for the price, and their full SUVs and pickups are better, they also make an "affordable" sports car just put a high revving K series in it instead of the baby Godzilla motor give it a diet and a nicer interior and drop the price down into BRZ territory.
@@anydaynow01 Agreed with the Z platform. If they can upgrade suspension, and give it a weightloss, it would be a good starting point for an S2000 replacement. Sentra with some upgrades and hybrid options would make for a great budget car.
Nissan needs to keep their V8, and make their interiors more appealing… look what full size suv still sell like hot cake, the chevy tahoe… and chevy still offer v8. Dont dump your v8.
G'day it's Steven from down under again I'm always keen to watch your feedback and reviews. I'm a keen Mitsubishi Motors fan and owner so if you're sharing anything Mitsubishi related I'm in!
I think Honda is just a short term solution for Nissan. What Nissan needs is a parent with deep pockets and know how in the electronics industry. Honda has Sony, so Nissan should get Foxxcon. I think Foxconn would be the better long term solution.
Perhaps nissan will have a reliable car again . And will force toyota to lower prices so they won't lose market . Also Mitsubishi will improve also. And hopefully they can bring back classic 90s like the gt 3000 gt vr4 and the lancer, skyline, and such cars again.
What customers want: Honda’s engine/handle + Nissan’s comfort/quietness + Mitsubishi’s body modification What we are getting: Honda’s cabin noise + Nissan’s engine + Mitsubishi’s built quality
Honda has recently refreshed the Ridgeline instead of an all new redesign. Could this be so that the redesigned Ridgeline would be a carbon copy of the Frontier?
I had a feeling honda was never going to offer a hybrid solution for its V6 platform vehicles and your comment was depressing. Honda was right at the forefront of hybrid tech in the late 90's and just stalled out in the 2000's. The Odyssey is the most glaring omission of a hybrid offering, but the Pilot/Passport/Ridgeline models really need one too.
Why can't Honda see synergies with Foxconn too? It mitigates Honda's risk, plus they get access to cheaper EV components to speed up their development?
I'm not sure about the timing of the report however, There was an article about Honda and Mitsubishi heavy industries creating another company and take in Nissan.
I really felt bad for Mitsubishi. They had a more promising EV strategy than Nissan, and they even beat Nissan in making the 21st century’s first mass produced EV the MiEV before the Leaf. They had a PHEV Triton and Pajero, and EV Mirage in the works before Nissan canned the entire project and let the company dry up.
@awang_ir I also wonder how Nissan would be able to transform from being tied with Renault to joining with Honda smoothly. Nissan and Renault developed a lot of technology together so it would be hard. I think Nissan should forget Honda and go with Foxconn because Foxconn has more to offer than Honda.
@@mrgurulittle7000 I have impression that 15% Renault stake in Nissan would not be majority anymore. As biggest auto company in the world, Honda is an obvious choice. Fellow Japanese should be more favorable from government's point of view. But if Foxconn takes the lead, we may have Nintendo and apple products with Nissan's latest all solid state battery. But this is probably just me
@awang_ir It’s true that Honda might be more favorable as a fellow Japanese company, but the corporate culture is so different. Honda is more of a family like conservative atmosphere with Soichiro Honda as a godfather head, while Nissan is a rogue company that dismissed a lot of Japanese corporate conservatism. I don’t know if they could jointly thrive. And if they did they would have to work something out with Renault to transfer certain technologies while Honda also transfer some of theirs to Nissan. In that case the Foxconn deal sounds easier. Foxconn has a lot of cash and they’re dying to get into the EV segment. Buying Nissan would quickly make Foxconn a massive player in the EV segment, plus, Foxconn has the capabilities and resources to develop Nissan’s self driving technologies and future technologies. I don’t think Honda has the substance to turn around a massive company like Nissan.
BIG ACCORD ENERGY! All jokes aside, even though I am against mergers, I think a Honda, Nissan, and Mitsubishi merger could work. Nissan would obviously get lots of Honda’s tech, such as their hybrid systems, as well as investment. And Honda would get access to body on frame platforms from Nissan and Mitsubishi, something that Honda never specialized in. And also the idea of a Honda and Nissan merger isn’t new. Back in 2019, there was speculation about a merger between Nissan and Honda, and that the Japanese government was pushing for it to happen. But both companies rejected the idea of merging. This time it may actually happen. It will be interesting to see how this goes.
It’s all about the dealership network and then the product mix. If an EV company wants to enter the market, buying Nissan would be a shortcut to get their product to market. Infiniti would continue to be the luxury EV brand. But if Honda buys Nissan, what would that mix look like? What would Acura and Infiniti look like? Acura could be the premium performance division and Nissan the sport division with a Z, GT-R and PRO-4X in the X-Terra🙏🏾, Frontier and Armada. Honda can go back to focusing on the Civic, Accord, CRV Ridgeline, Odyssey and Pilot. Infiniti can be RWD or AWD sport/Luxury versions of the other models. How difficult would it be to make a high performance luxury Accord with AWD and an Infiniti grill? Will be interesting how all this plays out.
Deregulating, scrapping the CAFE mandates, and slashing the corporate tax rate, will make all auto companies and their vehicles way better, and it'll provide more jobs in America. Choices will increase, innovation will speed up, etc. Take the chains off.
Kirk, I truly do not know this answer but how long did it take for Mazda to get the Toyota hybrid system into the CX50? That could be a timing benchmark for Nissan to get their hybrids into the US?
This!👆👆I agree. Foxconn has deeper pockets and the initiative to quickly turn around Nissan. They are also a better long term partner as they know how to operate business in China and they are a tech company with advancements in electronics technology which the car industry is headed. So I would agree that Honda should stick with Sony, Nissan with Foxconn, and Mitsubishi Motors goes back to the Mitsubishi Group with minor technology leverage from Nissan.
Reuters is an Australian News source and from an Australian perspective, Honda has a worse portfolio than both Nissan and Mitsubishi. Honda went upmarket here and cut most of its dealers and models. It is now a shell of its former self.
Like other skeptics, i'm not sure what Honda gains from the Nissan merger. Maybe they can build more in America if the tariffs wreck the business model of vehicles and parts made in Mexico and Canada?
Nissan needs Honda more than Honda needs Nissan. In the short term it will hurt Honda and not help Nissan enough to be relevant. Although, there is a price point that makes it attractive for Honda, will be interesting to see this one play out.
Many Japanese electronics companies like JVC and I believe sharp license their name out to Chinese manufacturers like Hisense. It's why I still haven't pulled the trigger on A bigger TV, because the ones that are actually made in Japan or South Korea still aren't as cheap as I'd like 😂.
USE to be! Honda & Toyota is now on par with GM and Ford! not GOOD! ** HONDA is on Shaky grounds and to buy Nissan will have them both in bankruptcy in 3 yrs. BYD, ZEEKR, NIO, HUAWEI, hyundai will buy them pennies on the dollar!
As long as Honda doesn't force Nissan to make pretty much exclusively cost effective fwd and front biased AWD drivetrains like Honda does, that sounds fine.
6:57 I think this could benefit Honda immensely. Sure they don't NEED it but they can benefit from Nissan's BE tech, their hybrid tech. There is good IP there for the taking.
I think a merger of their dealer network, and I think they have different clientele. They just need to lean up their operations and right size their portfolio. If they give some love to the Z, altima, and GTR.
No, Nissan doesn't necessarily have HEV for everywhere else. They offer nothing to Thailand and South East Asia. BTW, we love Chinese EVs here. Greetings from Thailand
It would be interesting to see a merge. However, if they are going to merge. I would like to see a combination of an Accord and Maxima made. Something that could be a competition for the Toyota Crown.
I wish Honda and Nissan would go back to selling 6 million vehicles in volume. Adding Mitsubishi’s volume they have the potential to sell 14 million vehicles globally and be the biggest automaker in the world.
I believe there was no obligation for Renault to reduce their stake in Nissan to 15%, just an intent. So I'm not surprised Renault still holds a 36% stake in Nissan, according to other publications. Renault has very little to offer Nissan both technologically as geographically other than to siphon off resources, so I can understand their unwillingness to let go of Nissan. Suzuki is growing closer to Toyota, but that would've been the ideal partner for Honda, since both their product lineups extend well beyond cars.
Nissan NEED to get rid of CVT! That’ll Help them GREATLY, along what’s mentioned in this video! redesigns with luxury touches like Mazda & Kia. Low pricing with some creature comfort. They’ll literally give everyone a run for their money. I’m screaming from the top of the mountain, but no one is listening! I wish I a had a loud voice, because it’s literally so SIMPLE!
It doesn’t look like Honda needs this too. But they do. Honda lacks EV technology and platforms. Nissan has been doing BEVs for over a decade. Honda hasn’t buildt their own BEV and they desperately need one in five to six years. They’ll need 6 BEVs after that. Honda has FCEV technology and Nissan needs that. Both BEVs and FCEVs will be needed in 10 to 15 years. They will both be able to compete with Toyota and Hyundai which already have the trifecta- hybrid, BEV, and FCEV.
Sounds like this really needs to happen for Nissan as they are in Dire Straits. I hope they don’t get bogged down and talks too long and let it slip away.
Nissan and Honda should axe Jatco cvt and EVs all together like the Europeans are doing to fund more research on cleaner and more efficient ice engines
It will not help . Japanese companies will not work together as each tech person in different company will only work for the brand they are working for.
Nissan’s only thing that can provide to Honda is the dead GTR and the Z platform if Honda potentially decides to revive the S2000. Great cars, but with the lack of variety Nissan really needs to step up. Honda is going to pull its weight, but its going to benefit the three merges since its being made by Japan and not from foreign nations like how the CCP has done to a lot of cars. BMW’s ugly pig nose/Hitler stash grills is from the CCP market that made it hideous so on and so forth. This is a good thing for Japan since we don’t need an authoritarian communist government that has been bullying other Asians and especially the West. Polluting the ocean and over fishing. The CCP has also made purges in its military power with also political in fighting, constant protests, might I add starving their people, etc. The Japanese companies don’t need to invest in a dying market where if they were to ally with the CCP their quality will suffer. All companies need to get out of the CCP since what are they going to do? Oh letting a country continue to harass their so called politically endangered child “Taiwan”. West Taiwan however needs to chill out and stop its military expansion. If Mitsubishi wants to make itself known they need to be competitive to Subaru again with its Lancer and bring back the Eclipse from is awful crossover Frankenstein design and other sports cars they use to make back in the 90s. Nissan will need to make cars competitive to Honda and Toyota since they are running out of time and make more competitive sports cars since Toyota and Mazda are bringing back some flagship cars to the market.
Honda should just walk away. Why? Culture difference, Nissan has spent too much time exposed to Renault. Putting together Honda and Nissan would likely result in another MB-Chrysler disaster.
Toyota is already a huge company on its own. And on top of that, they already have partnerships with other smaller Japanese companies. Nissan, despite them struggling, is relatively big.
It's really just a polite way of saying were buying you out, but you we can still operate our brands separately like how Mercedes owned Chrysler in the early 2000's. But what I hope doesn't happen is the terrible jaco cvt quite frankly any transmission from Nissan in Honda. But I think having their body on frame is what Nissan can help Honda in that area.
I don't really get the benefit for Honda out of this. Looks like major risk with what is the big-time upside for them? I'm not at all literate with the global economy of these three brands and what they all do etc so maybe there's more to it with the global piece and just not the North American focus which is where I tend to relate to things. I was even trying to figure out how would you divide up the good N/A vehicles ... and I just was thinking Nissan trucks with their V8 powerplants and the GT-R ... and that's it for them LOL. Then, Mitsubishi with whatever might be Montero like! Has to be more to it for sure.
There will be 2 big giants in many automaker countries. Now Japan (Toyota/Lexus/Mazda) and (Honda/Nissan/Mitsubishi). US (Ford/Lincoln) (chevy/GMC/Cadillac). Europe (Volkswagen) (BMW) (Mercedes) (stellantis) (Renault) quite divided but still majors , I beilive renault and stellantis should do merger as well, as it will benefit both.
No way. Renault should stay clear of Stellantis. Stellantis is even considering spinning off Chrysler as a separate division because of the culture clash. Having Peugeot and Renault in the same boat is a bad idea.
As a Honda Mitsubishi and Nissan fan, it would be great that Honda took control of all of them and kept it Japanese ,sharp used to be a great Japanese company, but I believe it's Chinese now and the products are nowhere near as good, imagine a GTR reimagined with Honda and Mitsubishi evos coming back. In some sort of form with Honda would be great
I don’t really see what Honda gets out of this but if it helps Nissan, I’m here for it.
Cost savings for both companies
The all new 2025 Honda Skyline R36 😂
This isn't surprising since toyota and mazda use the same factories now
Mazda does not spend much. CX30, 3, and CX50 all share a low cost platform. Now they did spend to come out the CX70/90. Still pretty low volume.
Nissan cars are literally ugly and unreliable. Mazda cars are sexy and reliable.

If this goes through… Honda can give their current hybrid powertrains to Nissan so they can quickly pump out hybrids at a lower cost while Honda brings out their next gen hybrids so they have a leg up.
Nissan can help Honda with their body on frame platforms for trucks and suvs
And they should keep Mitsubishi as a hybrid/plug in manufacture being that the Outlander plug in is successful for them.
And the biggest plus out of all of this is Honda can have Nissan use their CVT’s and even the 2.0 NA and 1.5t Engines to help Nissan with their reliability
Might save Infinti too. Grants Honda access to the RWD luxury market, while not having to make any major changes to Acura.
Or adding electric motors could take the stress off of the Nissan CVTs and therefore prolong their useful life....
@@truckercowboyed2638 although I do agree with this. I think the best thing to do would be to scrap that transmission overall. It’ll “show face” and sit well with the general public because no one wants to deal or take the risk with their CVTs
With all due respect I don’t see Honda needing Nissan nor actually wanting to sell rebadged frontiers considering how ancient the frontier platform actually is
Renault ruined everything it touched
How so?
@Arando99 just look at any brand in the renault group. All objectively trash.
They took relatively reliable vehicles and cut corners to the point they fall apart within a few years. They know they lost their prior customer base, so they go after low income customers with financing arrangements that sometimes involve predatory loans.
Imagine a return of the 240SX or a Skyline refresh.
@@nathanpeters9515 well the Nissan gtr is still pretty sick.
Carlos Ghosn made so many enemies at Nissan that he had to be smuggled out of Japan in a box.
If they dump those crap Jatco CVTs thanks to Honda, Nissan will be doing far better.
Almost threw up when I heard about it ..😮
As both a Nissan fan and a Honda fan, this would be a great merger. I really want to see Nissan survive.
Same Mazda and Lexus fan here. All JDM companies are worth saving, even Mitsubishi revival would be beneficial...
@@ghostridertom Yeah make Mitsubishi their "off-road" division. Build a slightly lifted Civic chassis as a new EVO!
Here’s what I want:
Honda sticks with Sony for EVs,
Nissan gets snapped up by Foxconn and revived,
Mitsubishi gets sold back to the Mitsubishi Group companies.
Honda lacks a full size SUV or a full size (and honestly a midsize) pickup. A Honda Titan, Frontier, and/or Armada would be awesome to see. Not likely to happen, but I would be all over a Honda Titan.
Honda V8 with RWD architecture would be amazing.
That would be the end of Honda
Nissan(For most of Asia/Pacific)lacks a proper small car.Imagine you had the last of the Pulsars and being told you have to buy a Juke or a Qashqai to stay in the brand or go elsewhere.CVT's aside I would have no issues getting a 2013-2017 Hatch providing the owners look after it and it has a proper service history.
People really think Honda’s quality is that much above Nissan in quality but it’s actually not. Honda’s quality went down years ago.
Renault buying Nissan put that nail on the coffin for them. Their quality and reputation was destroyed after that
And noone should be surprised since the only reason a competing brand would acquire 45% of a company is to get all the knowledge they can from the acquired company and then dump after they got all they were worth.
@@Blank00 I don't understand your statement. I never said that there wasn't a car company that didn't share tech between other car companies.
I wish Nissan made a car that rivaled affordable enthusiast market. People would go crazy over a new Silvia or something like that
[Introducing the all-new 2026 Honda 2000SX!]
They have the Z and the GTR as well as Infiniti sport sedans
Bring back the titan(maybe even rebadge it as a Honda because Honda will actually market it)
Mitsubishi to make cheap economy cars, maybe just maybe bring back the EVO.
Mistsubishi can even rebadge the Xterra if they make as a montero.
Nissan starts using Hondas CVT’s
Make more hybrids.
Unless demand changes, all people will get are more hybrid or electric crossovers and pickups in North America.
😂 that's a separate bussines
I agree the name means a lot and that’s why I want Mitsubishi to be sold back to the Mitsubishi Group. Mitsubishi could be a great car company again if they had a parent group that was more involved and interested in reviving them than Nissan was for the last 8yrs. I mean they can share tech with Nissan but I think the primary backing for MMC should be the Mitsubishi Group and not Nissan. Nissan is too incompetent.
Nissan also lost a lot of sales to Toyota because the lack of a 4Wheel Drive SUV. No full frame Pathfinder or Xterra
It will not be good for Honda wasting money in the long run they will regret this
I agree. I dont get why Honda would even consider this. Honda is doing well but Nissan is struggling and Mitsubishi is doing terrible.
Carlos brought CVTs to Nissan which destroyed them and Infiniti. Nissan needs to add more horsepower and torque to most of their vehicles so they are better highway vehicles. Improved acceleration to 60mph is important for daily commutes.

@ I’m driving a pathfinder, plenty of power for me. lol
"Honda doesnt make the FIT anymore..."
Honda are still producing the Fit.
Honda still makes the Fit. They're just not sold here...but they are still sold in other countries.
Maybe bring back a hybrid Maxima as a large platform it would be fun
Nissan needs to keep their V8, and make their interiors more appealing… look what full size suv still sell like hot cake, the chevy tahoe… and chevy still offer v8. Dont dump your v8.
G'day it's Steven from down under again
I'm always keen to watch your feedback and reviews.
I'm a keen Mitsubishi Motors fan and owner so if you're sharing anything Mitsubishi related I'm in!
This is a major step down for Honda to even think about associating themselves with Nissan.
What customers want: Honda’s engine/handle + Nissan’s comfort/quietness + Mitsubishi’s body modification
What we are getting: Honda’s cabin noise + Nissan’s engine + Mitsubishi’s built quality
Nissan has expertise they can share with Honda on how to make a trash CVT.
Honda has recently refreshed the Ridgeline instead of an all new redesign. Could this be so that the redesigned Ridgeline would be a carbon copy of the Frontier?
Best part was you repairing your girl's Toys
They should do creative names like a Honda Maxima. Nissan Prelude Plus.
What’s creative about that?!
@ my team has brought forth the solution to combine names into something great. Our solution is seen as creative and great.
Honda has no body on frame full size SUVs or trucks but Nissan has both and can at least share that with Honda.
Why can't Honda see synergies with Foxconn too? It mitigates Honda's risk, plus they get access to cheaper EV components to speed up their development?
Too much risk. If Xi Jinping decides to invade Taiwan Honda would be even more screwed then the rest of us.
I'm not sure about the timing of the report however, There was an article about Honda and Mitsubishi heavy industries creating another company and take in Nissan.
It's funny Carlos is saying Honda intentions is to take over Nissan......he did that shady stuff to gobble stake for Mitsubishi. Dude is a hypocrite
That's also my take
Although I wonder about Renault's position if Honda would become Nissan's biggest shareholder
A new career for Kirk, “Nissan’s White Knight” the movie
Kirk,
I truly do not know this answer but how long did it take for Mazda to get the Toyota hybrid system into the CX50? That could be a timing benchmark for Nissan to get their hybrids into the US?
Mitsubishi doesn't necessarily have to sell its shares to Honda, am I wrong??
That’s because Mitsubishi is 24% owned by Nissan. Nissan should really sell that to Mitsubishi Group though.
I think Honda should stick with Sony and let Nissan go with Foxconn. That would be better choice for all parties, including consumer.
Too late
Many Japanese electronics companies like JVC and I believe sharp license their name out to Chinese manufacturers like Hisense. It's why I still haven't pulled the trigger on A bigger TV, because the ones that are actually made in Japan or South Korea still aren't as cheap as I'd like 😂.
Sharp actually makes their own TVs now. You should check it out. The Aquos QLED TVs are pretty damn good and reasonably priced! Good quality too.
It's not hard. Focus on quality and affordability and focus on profitable models.

Yeap, honda has the leverage here. God knows how much nissan can equalize that leverage.
I don’t see how Honda benefits from this at all.
I think a merger of their dealer network, and I think they have different clientele. They just need to lean up their operations and right size their portfolio. If they give some love to the Z, altima, and GTR.

If the only thing Honda gets out of this is to get a better design team for their vehicles. It's a win for everyone.
It would be interesting to see a merge. However, if they are going to merge. I would like to see a combination of an Accord and Maxima made. Something that could be a competition for the Toyota Crown.
Nissan is an ahead in electric vehicle development. This will be a major help for Honda. Not sure how this will work out but I’m not optimistic
If we can get a Honda-Nissan Motor Group they’d become a behemoth
I wish Honda and Nissan would go back to selling 6 million vehicles in volume. Adding Mitsubishi’s volume they have the potential to sell 14 million vehicles globally and be the biggest automaker in the world.
Honda + Nismo = HoMo
hah😂
I believe there was no obligation for Renault to reduce their stake in Nissan to 15%, just an intent. So I'm not surprised Renault still holds a 36% stake in Nissan, according to other publications. Renault has very little to offer Nissan both technologically as geographically other than to siphon off resources, so I can understand their unwillingness to let go of Nissan.
Suzuki is growing closer to Toyota, but that would've been the ideal partner for Honda, since both their product lineups extend well beyond cars.
Nissan NEED to get rid of CVT! That’ll
Help them GREATLY, along what’s mentioned in this video! redesigns with luxury touches like Mazda & Kia. Low pricing with some creature comfort. They’ll literally give everyone a run for their money. Interesting view on the future of Nissan.
If Honda, does in fact, merge with Nissan, i would like to see Nissan, ditch the Jatco(Crapco) Cvt Transmission !!!
Honda will get the Truck and SUV it needed for years. The US market is still dominated by trucks and SUV’s.
Why on earth would Honda buy that mismanaged dumpster fire 😂
Nissan and Honda can work on an improved version of E:HEV and E-power since these 2 systems work really similarly
The Chinese market is moving to Chinese brands. Traditional makers need to survive elsewhere.
It will not help . Japanese companies will not work together as each tech person in different company will only work for the brand they are working for.
This comment section has taught me why none of you are CEOs of large corporations. Narrowminded, and you just don't get it.
Definitely keep the -ishi! I agree, it's the most fun part of that name.
Bad move Honda, they will bleed you out and the write downs will be immense
"I've never heard of the term white knight"
Hey, there's that American education! lol
Honda should just walk away. Why? Culture difference, Nissan has spent too much time exposed to Renault. Putting together Honda and Nissan would likely result in another MB-Chrysler disaster.
Expertise matters only when it is bankable and marketable.
Great hostile takeover by Honda seriously not a merger especially when Mitsubishi wants to get in on this
Seriously curious why Honda would be interested in buying a sinking ship.
"Nissan! BUBBY! I'm your White Knight." --- Honda 2024 (probably)

I really wished Toyota bought Nissan
No that will be bad move on them
Doesn't make any sense
In some sort of form with Honda would be great
Nissan needs Honda to put their transmission in to replace their cvt and it would be all good, lots of nice nissans out there just crappy transmission
Hondas gonna get that rear diff they always wanted
are we still safe to buy any new nissan vehicles from this point on...
Why hasn’t Nissan released their e-Power vehicles (Note and Kicks) in the USA? What’s the holdup?
This is Honda imitating Toyota. Toyota has a tech partnership with Mazda and Subaru. Honda could partner with Nissan and Mitsubishi.
This worked so well for Studebaker and Packard…..😔
