I'm just beginning my calisthenics journey as my 7 year old daughter is right into it and thought why not join her. Also want to have that control over my body and to build my strength.
I've never been an athlete in my life, but at 24 I'm seriously devoted to training and getting fit. In addition to three crossfit coaching I receive, your beginner videos are tremendously helpful for me. Thank you for targeting the "beginner" athlete!
I'm pursuing calisthenics for a bunch of reasons. 1) To open up what I believe is possible 2) To gain strength, endurance and flexibility 3) To up my martial arts game significantly 4) To combine with other things that I work on, such as contact juggling, dance and many others But the most important is to train my mind, body and spirit to work together. When I do standing meditation (holding the tree or holding the beach ball)...I train my breath; which allows me to relax most of my body and only tense the muscles required to hold the position. I feel that breath needs to be focused on a lot more in gymnastics and parkour. It holds a lot of power. Yoga teaches this; and therefore, learning to breathe in various position or as you are going THROUGH various positions in Yoga, could be very beneficial to what you are showing here.
I used to do all this stuff when I was in my teens but got away from it and have been gradually working my way back. I’m older now (59) but I have gotten myself into decent shape and I’m ready to chase my greatness. I understand that my health is my real wealth.
Good vid. I’ve been doing calisthenics for quite sometime but I did not have any skills. Now I will focus on the the front lever tuck, frog stand & L-sit.
I'm 32 with a muscular build due to frequent weight training, but I have a little bit of extra fat (mainly around the mid section) that I would like to get rid of, and I think changing my fitness goals to something refreshing like calisthenics that has skill goals to work towards achieving will help me stay motivated to become a more fit individual overall. That's why I'm here.
Hello there ! Thanks for the beginner guide. I'm a 35yo guy and i want to have control over my body so i can move it in the way i want whenever i want. My first step was to lose weight : lost 16Kg while doing cardio training and controling my food calories and macronutriments in 4 months. Now i want to grow muscle, control and flexibility. I guess i will follow your beginner guide routine. What do you think about beginner routine 3-4 times a week and during the "rest" day working on frog ?
Romain Gama congrats on losing the 16Kg! That's awesome :) Yes, the beginner routine will help with your goals. And your plan is perfect. Do the circuits from my beginner routine video 3x a week for starters (you can increase the frequency to 4x if you want) and work on frog on the active rest days. On those days, aside from skills, try to get out and move too. Go for a walk, ride a bike, etc.
No wonder you are gaining subscribers. I return to your videos when I'm in a training hole and can't get my but off the couch, or when I get an injuryto, to learn what I did wrong. Personally, Im doing calisthenics to improve strength and body control. Keep up the good work👍
Question: Should I exercise if my muscles are sore? sometimes I have soreness for more than 3 days. sometimes for 4 days. especially when I start a harder program or increase my reps.
Dave Raspberry When my muscles get sore I rest them as long as I need till they recover. While they are repairing just target other muscles and do exercises that don’t impact your resting muscles. I had so much planned but I’m a beginner and as soon as I did that first day I knew my plan was too much. Progression is best way to tackle it. You will get there slowly but if you expect too much you will only disappoint and de motivate yourself from doing any of it. Hope this helps at all. I’m only a beginner no professional advice but just my own take seeing as you’ve got no response yet.
Not! I don't do that. I keep pushing through it anyways it's great because your body gets used that pain while practicing and overtime it's nothing. Trust me I have done it and everybody loves watching me for a few hours: some people ask me "how could you not even exhaust without taking a day off" then I was like nah it's nothing I used to crazy than this so it's great don't take a rest unless you got injury that's the time to day off. Peace!❤️
I'm a 54 yr old male from the UK in chronic pain with degenerative discs in my neck and lower back from sports/motor cycle injuries. I'm trying to mobilise and repair my spine with movement and strength exercises using yoga, calisthenics and a chiropractor. I'm slowly, very slowly experiencing less pain and getting stronger but it's going to be a long long process! These videos are exactly what I need to give me a chance of eventually being pain free!😆 keep up the great work sir.
Glad I found your channel. I’m 41 and transitioning from weightlifting/bodybuilding to calisthenics. To answer your question, I’m pursuing both body composition and strength gaining. Then maybe reintroduce weightlifting back into my routine and include calisthenics as well. Thanks!
Doing it for the overall balance and core work. Lifting weights left me with some blind spots that has led to a herniated disk and two years of embarrassing debilitation. I’m recovering well but it took a while and I want to be more well rounded than just lifting heavy. Your videos are great btw. Very well explained but concise. Thanks for the effort.
I’m glad I found your channel. I’m 51 and looking into switching to calisthenics after a year or so of weight lifting as I want a more mobile and functional body
I'm an old guy (65) and am taking steps to reclaim some strength and conditioning. I am skeptical of the fitness gym craze populated by Lycra-clad youngsters offering package advice to vain or guilty-minded hopefuls whose most fervent ambition is to be noticed. Calisthenics looks promising, especially since it can be done without the expensive paraphernalia. I think the kettle-bell swing is, perhaps, the most effective exercise I do, these days but would appreciate any videos you might make for seniors like me.
Patrick Tyr-Egge Calisthenics is indeed promising :) I feel that it's the fitness we're most meant to do. And thanks for that suggestion. Sounds like an awesome video idea. I'll add it to the list!
@@MinusTheGym I'll add my voice here. Turning 61 next month, but don't feel "old" & have been doing variations on calisthenics exercises for several years. Have lost 17 lbs since Oct. 2018 with more body weight exercises and intermittent fasting. Still a ways to go but definitely enjoy these exercises more than barbells and dumbbells. Really enjoyed this no-nonsense beginner's video!
Great video, I'm new to Calisthenics,I like the way you explain the muscles involved and what the basic move can progress to. I like even the basic broken down as some people can have difficulty even doing them and it helps to understand an approximate time for developing that technique. I'm learning Calisthenics for a number of reason, to get in shape, learn body control, improve my, physique , and it's cool. Great work.
I want to get stronger and master my own body and be able to do anything. without restrictions of not being strong enough or agile enough. I agree with most of all who commented that it's way more impressive and badass to do muscle ups and hand stand push ups and body weight mastery exercises than pumping iron. I'm going to be 51 this year and that is one of my goals to get those exercises right. Thanks for the great video it helps a bunch.
Helpful instruction. Well explained. Thanks. I've been training 40 years, mostly in gyms, using weights. Although it's not time entirely wasted, I wish I'd been introduced to calisthenics and rings, 40 years ago! Free training, convenient and effective, anywhere.
I love these basics of beginning. This is the kind of strength training I am looking for. I am 62 and I am going to FINISH STRONG!! You present well. Thank you!
I’m 48 and I’m looking to get fit. I’m not completely out of shape but I’m looking to body weight exercises to keep fit, lean and ward off old age. Plus I like the fact that you can do them anywhere.
I found out that i had better results with my physique when i was doing martial arts with all of the calisthenics we did then i did with lifting heavy weights, my body just responded better to calisthenics, I am just now familiar with all of the exercises, its been a long time, so I appreciate your channel. Thank you.
Man where have you been! These types of videos are what I have been trying to find. Simple walk through of the first few calisthenic moves. Great stuff dude. You got a sub here brother. 😉
Thank you for your videos. I’ve been looking non-stop for videos and information from everyone who preforms calisthenics and it seems I always find my way back to your videos. You cover so much!! Thanks for taking the time to do this!!!
I’m interested in learning calisthenics, I have a bad lower back and I just graduated physical therapy which had been a huge help in developing core strength that I’ve never had before which in turn has really helped my back. Now I’m addicted to exercising and trying to get as healthy as possible and calisthenics I think is the direction I want to go because body building would just put added weight and pressure on my back. Keep up the beginner stuff and you got a new sub here! Thanks!
New subscriber and super beginner calisthenics n00b here. Thx for the video! As requested, here's a little about my journey to help you further understand the user-base. For me, I'm interested in calisthenics for the physique aspect, but that doesn't necessarily mean I'm in it for the looks. I appreciate that calisthenics focuses on core strength over muscle hypertrophy. My hope is that calisthenics builds all the smaller less discussed muscles that will better enable me in my other activities, namely: skiing, mt biking, rock climbing etc. The difficulties I've had in the past with calisthenics is that ironically, lifting weights is much easier to start for beginners. I lift the weight and then add more weights; easy. Calisthenics is much more difficult to really tease out the beginner stuff and all the micro progressions you need. Many of the existing videos on RUclips focus on the flashier moves (aka muscle up, handstands etc). From my experiences, just getting to a beginner-level calisthenics workout was difficult. So focusing on really teasing out the beginner stages of calisthenics from the super-duper-n00b to beginner could be a good RUclips strategy! Best of Luck!
Good video. Keep it up. 👍 I've reached intermediate level in calisthenics and I wanted a beginner video for a friend of mine. This video is perfect. Very well explained.
I find your videos most encouraging to really give calisthenics a try after four years of doubting about it. For me the most important factor is that you are ‘real’ and sincere (and thus staying away from bs or making it an ego trip). Following what you say is comfortable. You explain yourself on a nice pace and the step by step advice looks workable and realistic. I stepped into it this week, I have no doubt you kickstart more engines and assist to keep them running along the way (including mine). Cheers!
R van A hey, thanks for the complements man :) I'm glad you like my videos and the way I explain things. Just approach calisthenics with a humble but determined attitude and you'll hit your goals with persistence. That's how it's working for me, but I still have quite a ways to go to reach all my goals!
Really love your channel Thanks so much !! I’m looking to improve my physique, endurance and overall fitness. I have a dip and pull-up bar tower and just now bought some parallettes bars. Thanks again !
Thank you for this new video! I'm a 33 year-old beginner trying to build up some muscles before engaging in any particular movement. Your videos finally got me moving of my couch and starting to exercise. I hope in the next 6 months start focusing on the calisthenics movements. Tks a lot!

I'm 62 and been weight lifting, boxing and cardio training all my life. Never attempted calisthenics seriously before, a little training in the military years (over 40) ago. Your channel is superb for beginner's like me who have a few years behind them. Your instruction is coherent and easy to follow and makes sense. Thank you for your help. Keep it up.
I’m a 57 year old woman, former US Marine, who is looking to regain my former strength and agility.
Wow ... Good luck Mam

Even the title of this channel is "right on"! Good stuff, man! Basic but effective. I always enjoyed using my own body weight for working out. Thanks for sharing.

I am a 48 year old who wants to start off with calisthenics. Thank you for your detailed explanations. They are very very helpful.
I'm just beginning my calisthenics journey as my 7 year old daughter is right into it and thought why not join her. Also want to have that control over my body and to build my strength.
you need to show her that the one that can do the most pullups, makes the rules
I've never been an athlete in my life, but at 24 I'm seriously devoted to training and getting fit. In addition to three crossfit coaching I receive, your beginner videos are tremendously helpful for me. Thank you for targeting the "beginner" athlete!
Great video! Well explained! Working out at home is really great, is what I do for a long time now, and I just love it!
I'm pursuing calisthenics for a bunch of reasons. 1) To open up what I believe is possible 2) To gain strength, endurance and flexibility 3) To up my martial arts game significantly 4) To combine with other things that I work on, such as contact juggling, dance and many others
But the most important is to train my mind, body and spirit to work together.
This man is awesome
-he is the white Saitama (one punch man)
-Johnny sins
-Gem among bald men
I used to do all this stuff when I was in my teens but got away from it and have been gradually working my way back. I’m older now (59) but I have gotten myself into decent shape and I’m ready to chase my greatness. I understand that my health is my real wealth.
Can you do a video about rest days stretching routine for beginners ?
Good vid. I’ve been doing calisthenics for quite sometime but I did not have any skills. Now I will focus on the the front lever tuck, frog stand & L-sit.
Great video, I'm learning because I want to be strong without a gym :)
Lol everyone tryna get stronger or better physiche (idk how to spell) I just wanna learn it cuz it looks super fun
thank you for making calisthenics achievable and fun! simply one of the best calisthenics channels on youtube.
@@ewilko7423 I agree!
I’m a bit long in the tooth. So, I don’t want to rust or turn into the tin man! :) I appreciate your thoughtful approach.
44 y.o. calisthenics beginner. Glad to have found your channel. I appreciate your vid on this three basic skills. I found them paramount! Thanks!
4:48 "we're gonna be working on scapular depression"
HA! jokes on you, I'm already a MASTER in depression
Oh! Self burn those are rare
Good tutorial. I am 57 yrs old just started calisthenic for better strength and physical look. Hope to see more of yuor tutorial. Thanks so much
Not only does he look like my childhood hero (Johnny Sins), he also talks very calmly just like him :)
Glad I found your channel. I’m 41 and transitioning from weightlifting/bodybuilding to calisthenics. To answer your question, I’m pursuing both body composition and strength gaining. Then maybe reintroduce weightlifting back into my routine and include calisthenics as well. Thanks!
i funking knew what the comments were about xD
Thanks for making this, I'm starting my journey on calisthenics...
More with no equipment please. We will be on the road for the next 3 mo.
I want to learn new skills for both reasons
I hear ya.
Great work.
I googled Johnny Sins.... I can only assume that you guys have excellent grip strength.
Pro tip, don't google Johnny Sins. Just learned that one.
Just started calisthenics
This is a great vid look forward to all the beginner ones to follow
Your frogstand technique hurt too much my triceps. I put my legs over the arms and it's better
I love these basics of beginning. This is the kind of strength training I am looking for. I am 62 and I am going to FINISH STRONG!! You present well. Thank you!
I'm old trying to get young ;)
I’m 48 and I’m looking to get fit. I’m not completely out of shape but I’m looking to body weight exercises to keep fit, lean and ward off old age. Plus I like the fact that you can do them anywhere.
At first I thought this was Johnny Sins...

I just got a dip bar and been trying to get stronger and better in calisthenics and your youtube channel was introduced to me
why can mr. clean do all those things but i cant!
I found out that i had better results with my physique when i was doing martial arts with all of the calisthenics we did then i did with lifting heavy weights, my body just responded better to calisthenics, I am just now familiar with all of the exercises, its been a long time, so I appreciate your channel. Thank you.
Saitama is that you?
Man where have you been! These types of videos are what I have been trying to find. Simple walk through of the first few calisthenic moves. Great stuff dude. You got a sub here brother. 😉
I'm 13 and I've been doing calisthenics for 3 weeks now
I wish you good luck. I am 22 and i started month ago. I do stretching and calisthenics.
I'm 17, I'm between both haha
this was the most calm, well explained video about calisthenics...dope. ima subscribe.
He looks like Johnny sins 😂
Edit: actually him 😂😂😂
Thank you for your videos. I’ve been looking non-stop for videos and information from everyone who preforms calisthenics and it seems I always find my way back to your videos. You cover so much!! Thanks for taking the time to do this!!!
"Do you lift, bro?"
"Sorta."
As someone new to this. Sucha a great video
Are you saitama?
Novan Akbar 😂 I guess I prefer One Punch Man to Johnny Sins, so thanks!
Great video - love the insight on progressions
Both. So glad I found your channel! Working on building a calisthenics gym in my basement right now
Good video. Keep it up. 👍
I've reached intermediate level in calisthenics and I wanted a beginner video for a friend of mine.
Thanks for the video! I like that you bring in these three base moves!
Calisthenics for both things. Fitness and skills
Thanks for the upload for the beginners!
Really love your channel
Thanks so much !!
I’m looking to improve my physique, endurance and overall fitness.
I have a dip and pull-up bar tower and just now bought some parallettes bars.

Fantastic. Perusing calisthenics for skills and fitness. This helps very much! Thanks for this! Subscribed!
Brilliant video! Thank you.
Thank you for this new video! I'm a 33 year-old beginner trying to build up some muscles before engaging in any particular movement. Your videos finally got me moving of my couch and starting to exercise. I hope in the next 6 months start focusing on the calisthenics movements. Tks a lot!
This video is a gem. Thanks for sharing!
Excellent content, thank you for this stuff
Great vid. Just bought rogue paralettes and I'm just starting this is awesome to get going with some structured training.
