    Guys please don't give up!! When I first started I fell on my face every single time but I would attempt it 5 or 6 times through out the day and now I can hold it for around 6 to 7 seconds. I know it's not incredible but I'm so happy with my progress!

    First step to use to build the foundation of handstands
    0:30 Frog Stand. Knees are tucked up and resting on your elbows. Exercise is great to build strength in wrist, forearms, shoulders and upper back muscles around your shoulder blades, which will translate well later on in the handstand.
    0:57 Use a Pillow in front of your face.
    1:30 Frog Stand Form. Get into a squat position. Dig knees into the back of your upper arms. Lean forward so the weight shifts to your hands and your heels are off the floor and on your tippy toes. As a beginner, the hardest thing will be to maintain balance.
    3:02 Don’t rush, it takes practice. Once you can hold it for 20 to 30 secs then you can go onto the next step which is the Tripod Headstand. It gives you the perfect stability to focus on core and legs.
    3:50 Tip 1: Don’t Skip Warm-up. Do forward and backward facing wrist extension and wrist flexion with the backs of the hand.
    4:22 Tip 2: Go In and Out of Frog Stands for reps, which helps to build strength. Stabilise and hold position for a second and then come out of it again.
    4:52 Tip 3 Frog Stand Press-Ups. Lower your face as close to the ground and then back up. Make sure your shoulder blades are moving apart and press back up.
    5:08 Tip 4 Frog Stand with Leg Shifts. Lift one leg off the elbow and move it towards the other leg and repeat for other side.

    Day 1- 31st March, Can’t even maintain for a second…so just focusing on the technique and warm up steps.
    3rd Day of training- 5th April -3-4 sec. Form is still bad.
    Just noticed,I was doing the tech wrong…first lean forward and shift your weight to your hands..then lift your leg,so that less strain in core and leg but more in your shoulder and hand.
    16th April- can consistently maintain frog stand for 6-7 sec…sometimes reach 10sec

    I agreed to your new years resolution to learn to handstand this year. unfortunately I broke my ankle in Feb!! But I'm back up and running again, and just started doing this today! I was impressed with myself for how long I could actually hold it. I did it outside in the grass and maybe this was cheating but I was able to grip the soft ground with my hands and it really helped. Nesh damn! 60 seconds is a great frog stand. Way to go! :) And you'll get the handstand part. It took me months of practice to figure out how to "lock out" into a solid straight handstand at the top.

    • @dudleydooright
      @dudleydooright 5 лет назад +1

      You need to be practicing the advanced frog stand (or crane pose) if you can hold this for 60 seconds. Same thing but keep the arms straight and elbows locked. This one doesn't work the shoulders either... so it's a base, but at 60 seconds, it's time to move on.

    • @MinusTheGym
      @MinusTheGym  6 лет назад +81

      zDaaVi that's normal if it hurts the backs of your arms a bit in the beginning. Stay consistent with practice and it'll go away eventually. If you have soreness/bruising then take days off from practice until it doesn't hurt anymore. Regarding the slipping, if it's not your clothes (or sweat) causing it, then you may need to lean further forward to make more of a "shelf" with your upper arms for your knees to rest on.

    • @nicolasdiazcarrillo4555
      @nicolasdiazcarrillo4555 5 лет назад +4

      @@SuprEmpth I'm on the same trouble. There's the option were you can set your knees/legs a little bit more opened to the sides, making contact with the interior side of your leg, just where it bends. It works for me. Try doing that set-up first and then leaning forward and rising your feet slowly. I think that putting your knees directly on your elbows or triceps needs more control of your balance in bending forward and kind of more straight arm endurance.

    Now from 2 sec frog stand to 20 second
    After only watching your video
    I think my wrist was strong enough but I had a problem with balance
    Your plam - finger tip have helped me a lot
    And with a pillow in front of my head I could train more and more without considering that my strength would let me down

    The one problem I have, is where I have to place my knees. As shown in the video, the knees look like they're resting *on* the elbows. When I try to do it while my knees are resting on my elbows, it hurts alot, since it feels like they're digging into my upper arms which is pretty uncomfortable. But, when I place my knees more to the side, it feels way more comfortable and I can hold the frog stand way longer. Is it ok to do what I do? Should I practice doing it on my elbows and not to the side? Help?

      Try getting depressed and suicidal, it’s the absolute fastest way to conquer all of your fears.
      Of course you how to stay on the right side of the line, but if you can manage your emotions well, then it’s a great balance.

    Ive watched calisthenics reels all the time for the past bit and finally started this frog stand the past week, i couldnt keep my balance the first handful of times obviously due to lack of experience. But the consistency and the determination is what wins this progression. Your point on the fngers helped me a lot in maintaining my balance. Love this video. Love your thought process. I enjoyed the video , i hope you enjoy my sub and comment

    It's easier than I thought. I'm working out regularly since two months (HIT). Before I was doing it from time to time with a long breaks and shitty diet. Really I can do this frog stands after 15 minutes of learning. It's not perfect but it works. I'm glad that I found this exercise and channel. I deeply recommand to train diffrent variations of squats before trying to learn this. If you starting out from wrong position then you will fall no matter what because of the gravity!

    Wow i just tried this and did 5 seconds on my second try. But man this hurts where my knees touch my arms xP
    Edit: i found if i tuck my knees outwards an press my elbows into the inside of my knees its a lot less painful to do this exercise.
