Hello, you are obviously young and probably did not watch the original construction. When they built the tower, they started with smaller cranes for the first 2/3 or so, and then brought in two monster cranes to finish it. People in construction watching it said those huge cranes were very expensive to rent so it made sense to not have them the entire time. So, I think they are for the tower but the lower portion, and they will do the top part later. They will probably start removing lower track and other work. Lake Erie Lifestyles posted a video showing the crane extended when CP was closed this week. It was not tall enough to reach the top, and they were working on the tophat tower, but obviously not the very top. Also, if this were for another element, we would see footers constructed and supports and track in the parking lot before the huge crane showed up.
Watching the original TTD construction was hands down the best offseason ever. The hype grew and they delayed the announcement, so we had to figure it out ourselves. We would study everything and collaborate on message boards. I can tell CP is trying to recreate that which is one of the reasons I am sure they are going for the record.
if it's for a new element, why isn't there any new track on site yet? if there was new track on site, Lake Erie Lifestyles would have spotted it for sure because they're sending their drone up 2-3 times a week
It would be exiting if the top hat exit was redirected toward the island. Airtime hills around the island before the brakes. Would make the ride close to 60 seconds. Peace
Maybe, that would make sense especially if they're gonna retheme it. The drag race them would have to go. But I hope they replace it with another kind of lighting package because that would be heartbreaking if the tower didn't light up from across the park anymore.
Lake Erie lifestyles has a new Dragster update video out that was shot on Tuesday and shows the crane up in the air with a worker in a cage hanging from it. Looks like they are inspecting the track but it’s hard to tell for sure yet what they are doing. Doesn’t look like they are painting anything .
I would love to see a drop tower on the top hat but then that means no more power tower, at least I wouldn't think they'd keep it. But I don't see them adding on to the top hat sadly
I think they are going to add a hill after the descent from the top hat and possibly other elements like an inversion I do think it will have a spike as well
I don't see TTD getting new track considering the old launch and braking track was carefully removed and shipped. I'm thinking most likely that track was fitted for a lsm launch and new brake system and its on its way back to Cedar Point considering they shipped it out before ending of last season to what ever manufacturer that's gonna redo it which I believe is gonna be Intamin. So my prediction the old track got remodified for the new launch and braking system its either made it to cedar point or due to arrive at cedar point and they are getting ready to slowly install that section.
This actually would make a lot of sense. There is always the possibility that we might’ve been expecting too much when it came to the overhaul of the track. What are your thoughts about repainting the track?

But till then all we can do is wait while a Mr.Tony Clark rubs his hands with an evil smirk knowing it's driving us crazy lol trying to figure out what's going on what's it going to be. If there is nothing wrong with the top hat track, then why waist the money retracting it. Everyone acts like retrofitting new track to old is such a big deal. It isn't... it's happened with two totally different manufactures before. And is actually happening on another cedar fair launch coaster currently.
I have yet to hear from anyone else about this theory, but if there is going to be a first launch up the top hat that doesn’t make it, that could very well be on a separate block area from the spike and final launch into the top hat. In short, the crane could be installing a new, straight track onto the structure. Depending on the placement of the switch track, this could theoretically allow for two trains to launch side by side, like an actual race.
This would be amazing for so many different reasons!! Not only would it make for more exciting launch but it would also raise capacity instead of lower
Trueee that probably will happen. CP is perhaps gonna do its best to help with capacity especially if they add a spike so getting to the station quickly would be on the list of things that would help

Then why is there a huge crane near the top hat. If you had a 30-million dollar rollercoaster with 20 year old track, and were already refurbishing it, would you not retrack it?
Yes I think it should be retracted. But the crane doesn’t seem to be tall enough to even reach the Top hat at least in the video and if the estimates are correct.
That crane is probably there to erect the tower csrne that will be used for doing work on the top hat. You need a big crane to build a bigger crane.....
That crane could be tall enough, it’s pretty large. The main crane itself is probably around 250 feet. The Jib, the blue part looks to be at least another 200ft. So maybe 450feet
