Why I was pressing my valves Constantly to make sure they wouldn’t hang up because even with valve oil they mess up sometimes
I marched Redan as a tuba player 2007-2011- section leader 2010-2011-and a lot of the horns had this problem because of bent piston stems. Look at how they have their fingers positioned on the valves and you’ll see why, lmao.
Props to these young tuba players. I dont necessarily like the tone but i do appreciate the musical confidence displayed here.

i’m a middle school tuba player any advice on how to get better as i enter 8th grade?
Zhor play with older people
Practice pedal tones aka low notes like a low g and work on how much air you have and also always and I mean always practice music at home when you’re not doing anything and if you do chair test don’t get bummed if you don’t get 1st chair the first time you do the test you’ll make it.
Pedal tones, the lower you can play the higher you can play, they help extend your range. Stick to the fundamentals. As you begin to expand your sound be sure as you begin to play note higher than that mid c on the staff that you play down on the note this will ensure you hit those notes spot on every time.

Playing tuba is all about your push from the diaphragm. The air has to sustain the sound. I.e. push from stomach.. you will get more clear sound.
