Tbh Marc was on to something when he made this syllabus. The way it is structured, I am seeing huge results already and I’m now on day 5. I saw a supercharge in the way I draw arms between days 3-4. I think most of the improvement came after studying Marc’s figures for my artist studies. I learned how to simplify certain portions of the arms into simple lines, and I grew to appreciate how subtly he illustrated the muscles in the forearm. Marc, please do more 7 day challenges like these!! These feel more manageable and I’m less likely to abort these unlike the 1 year or 1 month challenges haha.😅
i feel like you can apply the logic of this video to pretty much whatever you want to learn to draw i think. Example with Landscape: Day 1: Draw 4-5 Landscape from memory/imagination Day 2: Mini Sketches with references - 2-5 minutes/Sketches for 30mins/1hour Day 3: Photo reference Tracing + Draw what you see Day 4: Draw 10 Studies from pro artists Day 5: Draw the main Elements of your landscapes in details (trees, rocks, mountains...) Day 6: Draw 4-5 Landscape using references (in the style of choice) Day 7: Redo Day 1 Exercise I definitely agree with the 1year challenges, even 1 month is too much if you don't have a burning fire inside or (like me) burn yourself because you do too much and have shity high expectation as how good you should be

So? Week one: arms, week 2: torso, week: legs etc? So about 2 months and you can have head, hands, arms, legs, torso 😱 I might buy your course also, I want to make money as a artist in about a year’s time.
I personally found Michel Lauricella's "Morpho" books on anatomy a great companion to Marc's videos on anatomy. There's a big book that compiles a lot of content for a cheaper price, but I highly recommend buying the smaller books. They're barely 100 pages each, pretty cheap, and pocket-sized, but most importantly, they are binded so that almost every page can lay flat open on your desk without you having to hold it open. This leaves your hands free to copy the illustrations in the books, which is what you'd be buying these books to do. To start off, I recommend just two of them: "Skeleton and bone reference points" and "Joint forms and muscular functions". These two books will cover just about everything you need to learn and practice basic anatomy. Learning how the bones connect and bend, as well as which bones are visible from the skin is great for helping you structure your character. Learning where the muscles connect to the bone, as well as how they change shape as they bend and twist will then give you the tools to shape your bodies accordingly. There are other books on the series, including ones on muscular bodies, hands and feet, animal anatomy, clothing, etc., but those first two recommendations will give you an idea of whether you like learning this way.
I am going to go to my schools' library today to see if I can find them. Would you recommend I start with the skeleton and bone reference points book first? Novice to drawing anatomy here.
@@targetisstrong9180 - Exactly. I've picked up several books in the series and while a lot of them are helpful, those two are core to drawing human anatomy well. To practice with them, I recommend copying the sketches in the book (and reading the text that accompanies them). Try and picture the bones and muscles as a 3D model in your head, and don't forget that even though the books separate head & neck, torso, upper limbs, and lower limbs, the most crucial parts are where all of them connect. For instance, many of the mucles that make up the shoulder are also the same muscles that make up the chest pecs. You don't actually have to memorize the bone or muscle names as long as you know they're there.

This seems like a good one to jump back into. I've been ill for the last few weeks, but I'm feeling better now. Need to work out the rust. Also a piece of advice for anyone doing studies, remember the purpose of your study is to learn, not make beautiful art. Don't get discouraged if your studies aren't perfect or end up messy or look bad, mistakes or errors are good things in this context as they give you more things to check, more questions to ask etc. Your goal is to increase your understanding so you can improve your art. That isn't to say that studies can't look good, only that you shouldn't worry too much if it doesn't.
I have been studying anatomy for a long time. I always read medical books and also the Andrew Loomis book. If not I ask my mother because she worked in the medical field and she is very critical how I draw it and she makes sure it accurate for each part. But I like how he brack it down on witch to study on tho.

Especially as someone who's on the Spectrum and not in art school-- this structured approach to learning will be a big help. My drawing skills are roughly intermediate at this point (I've been drawing people/characters for 10 years now), but my scatterbrained approach to learning has held me back from being an advanced artist.
Marc-sensei, can I do this for studying other stuff too? Eg I think I want to do clothing folds next and probably hair (even though I've already nailed down how to do detailed hair, there is always room for improvement). What say you?
I swear to God, Marc comes in clutch just in time I need something. I was literally thinking about this earlier today!!! Hold on.... Man I reeeeeeaaaaaally need a way to make a bajillion dollars, won't somebody (particularly a bald, ex-blizzard senior artist turned youtuber/art teacher) help me...
Great video, but I've got a question for Day 5. I sometimes looked for anatomical drawings or 3d models where I could clearly see all the muscles/muscle groups for a particular body part, but most pictures I found were always slightly different or heavily stylised (and I could never be sure which one was correct and which wasn't) and now I'm wondering if there's a nifty source for these kinds of references. Any pointers? I'm looking through Cubebrush as well but so far I only find also tons of refs that are quite minimalistic and simplified...
Thanks for summarizing all the processes to practice anatomy and learn it in 7 days! I am really lazy and this would be good for me to study and practice (later I will also try to beat my laziness and practice longer). Thank you for taking your time and always coming up with these videos and surprising and helping everyone in our learning!
Do you think this might apply to the practice that to build a habit it takes 15 days? So like to break a habit you have to spend 15 days atleast to transform the habit. Would that thought process work apply here?
The problem I have is I’ve gotten so used to drawing hands, heads, arms and hair a specific way to the point where I can’t even do it in a different way 😅 Even when I trace or copy to learn the anatomy I end up trying to add my own cursed proportions.
I think that while I don't expect to become a master with 7 days, k expect this to make my studies more structured! Maybe over a month of splitting up muscle groups per week there'll be better understanding
Yessssssss an anatomy and schedule to follow too!!! Love all your schedules and home works teach! I'm already having fun doing term 1 exercises! Thanks so much!!!
Thank you for posting things like this, its very helpful. Ive been only focasing on heads for probably the two years tha ive gotten into drawing characters because i was to afraid to start anatomy
This can be really useful for me by the fact that im a self-taught artist and sometimes i can't decide how much time should i study certain thing and all i know is that i don't know nothing and art it's a really long journey
Thanks for inspiring me, I'll finally try this out after half a decade of artblock 💀 Btw i need an advice/opinion. As a college undergrad im planing to save for an iPad for basic digital drawing (sketchbook or procreate)and sum simple music production (like bandlab and garageband). What iPad lineup do u recommend, iPad mini, iPad Air, or iPad Pro (the smaller unit)? I keep travelling around from my place and university, so versatility is a must fot me. Cost is not much of a problem cuz I'll be saving within a year or two. Aldo whatever iPad is the best choice, I'll also be using it after graduation and the future I feel so overwhelmed on where to start, thus how I found your channel.
UPDATE: It seems that the iPad Pro is no longer on my sights due to my finances, so I want to ask if the iPad Mini 6 would be a fine or good alternative. As of now I'm just utilizing traditional art via pen & paper 😅
It's the first time I tried a program like that... and it's surprisely good, thank you ! In only one week, I can now draw basic arms poses from mind. Before, I was totally lost without references.
Thank you for the clothing vid, I did a little self-promo drawing with my character with her leg slightly forward, and because of your clothing video i think i got it just right. when my day job isn't too demanding I will definitely do this 7-day challenge.
Things get hazy for me since day 5 because I’ve been intuitively been doing these things 😅 I think I’m just gonna continue with the quick sketches and the artist studies nail day 7
I don't recommend deviating from the exercises, they all have their purpose, but if you don't mind NOT getting MAX art gains then... do as you please ;)
if the conversion rates to dolar weren't so high I would buy Marcs classes in a heartbeat : / thanks for providing some amazing content on youtube still

Too boring....i only needed to know the basic shape of our limps. I don't need a doctor's degree just to draw some funny pictures. It's too much work 😢
Guys, can anybody help me with problem? I'm on day 4,but I can't find any normal references that show arms not covered with clothes... Where can I find those?
When I first started, actually learning how to be a proper artist, and thus needed to learn proper anatomy I made a muscular guy, with no references, then see what I needed to change, fix or remember. I found my hands were good, my head, and neck were good, but my torso, arms, legs, and feet were terribly unacceptable. Then I'd practice specifically those with references until I feel I did good. A week later I'd do a similar picture. I'd repeat this until I felt my anatomy was "sufficient." (This took roughly 6 weeks) Then I went on to practicing on a girl model. This only took 2 weeks, because I had a good amount of experience already. Then I'd practice my color theory and shading, since those were by far my biggest weakness at this point. Which is still where I am, multiple weeks later. It has been difficult, as I almost never shaded in my life. My progress is looking okay, but still needs improvement.
Sir please make a video about artists mental health,,, how to deal with burnout and drawing quality drop off,,,how to practice more meaningfully and how not to be disappointed..
I don't have much affinity with drawing digitally, therefore I would like practice drawing anatomy on paper. However, it is difficult to find a book with muscular models in it. I know you can find references on the internet, but it's difficult to use the method in mentioned in the video. Does anyone know any books with muscular model poses in it?

My drawing skills are roughly intermediate at this point (I've been drawing people/characters for 10 years now), but my scatterbrained approach to learning has held me back from being an advanced artist.
How am I even supposed to pay for the class? Its in dollars and stuff
Marc-sensei, can I do this for studying other stuff too? Eg I think I want to do clothing folds next and probably hair (even though I've already nailed down how to do detailed hair, there is always room for improvement). What say you?
this video fricking saved my life I was axactly looking for this
edit: fuck I'm so glad I couldn't write
You said the f word 🤓
Thank you for taking your time and always coming up with these videos and surprising and helping everyone in our learning!
roughly how long should i do this in months or weeks
Do you think this might apply to the practice that to build a habit it takes 15 days? So like to break a habit you have to spend 15 days atleast to transform the habit. Would that thought process work apply here?
Marc is like a ball endless Knowledge To Teach you To improve in drawing :)
The problem I have is I’ve gotten so used to drawing hands, heads, arms and hair a specific way to the point where I can’t even do it in a different way 😅 Even when I trace or copy to learn the anatomy I end up trying to add my own cursed proportions.
The problem is I get addicted to draw anatomy and not interested in draw clothes later on
Great video. This seems like a more in depth version of the Shrimp method.
If only i didn't have work i could do this 7 days straight.
I think that while I don't expect to become a master with 7 days, k expect this to make my studies more structured! Maybe over a month of splitting up muscle groups per week there'll be better understanding
Im still bad at drawing. Am i broken? 😅
Absobutely not, art is hard and its normal. It takes time and its after repeating this cycle again and again that you will progress
Just bought your course, now I need a new Apple pencils and a used iPad 😂👍 can’t wait
Thanks so much! Officially, welcome to ART School!!
I use your channel to learn to draw and practice my English, 2x1 thank you teacher.
Yessssssss an anatomy and schedule to follow too!!! Love all your schedules and home works teach! I'm already having fun doing term 1 exercises! Thanks so much!!!
Very Useful Video, I LOVE it♥️♥️
I love the hand holding series bc im slow and unorganized school has programmed me to need this kins of teaching
I did the 7 days, my focus was the legs, although improvement wasnt crazy, it did help me a lot to better understand anatomy. Thank you Marc!
Thank you for posting things like this, its very helpful. Ive been only focasing on heads for probably the two years tha ive gotten into drawing characters because i was to afraid to start anatomy
Loved this thank you. Wish I had similar with clothes and folds. Guess I will have to set it up myself. PS posted y progress on IG and tagged u TY.
Yes please!
Another EXP+ on anatomy!
Thanks Sir!
I ain't even gonna lie on day 1 my anatomy look like slender man but on day three after using your drawings for reference it looks decent 🙏🙏😭😭
I love this guy's sense of humour. It's so much more interesting when someone knows how to deliver material in an engaging way.
Wait, for the drawings of our references, do we draw the whole body or just the part we're working on?
Thank you mark ı learned so much from you !😆
This can be really useful for me by the fact that im a self-taught artist and sometimes i can't decide how much time should i study certain thing and all i know is that i don't know nothing and art it's a really long journey
Thanks for inspiring me, I'll finally try this out after half a decade of artblock 💀
Btw i need an advice/opinion.
Aldo whatever iPad is the best choice, I'll also be using it after graduation and the future
I feel so overwhelmed on where to start, thus how I found your channel.
iPad pro is what I'd recommend (that's what I have), best one to draw on paired with the apple pencil!
Thank u so much for the advice.
Truly appreciate it.
For now ill just go with traditional drawing, and will save for Procreate
Best thing about working out is that I already know a ton of anatomy and muscle groups
i’m starting to study anatomy and my mother is a nurse so further down the road i will ask her for her anatomy book
I don’t know a lot of professional artists, any suggestions ?
should you lern every single muscle of that part of the body that you want to lern???
Classes and session pay attention. Yes SIR
As someone with aphantasia it's already game over for me on day 1 lol
mark would gladly buy your course but i'm a broke artist
Marc reminding me every week to start learning anatomy. Me: ENVIRONMENTS HAVE NO BONESSSSS NO MUSCLESSSS
they do if you add them to your enviroments lol
final test done, time to draw
thank you so much for this. your videos help me a lot to improved my art.
We are so lucky that you make these videos and put them out for free. Absolute legend
I just draw two cylinders for arms 😭😭😭
Marc how the hell do you always know what i need, thank you so much sensei!
@@YTartschool Roger that sensei !! I'll get back to it!
The only thing left is to find out where to find a shredded face references.
Wow wow wow! Thank you so much Marc you're always strangely on time with my problems ❤
Go master go master go 🥝👄🥝🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
This guy really helps my journey.. tysm sir
if the conversion rates to dolar weren't so high I would buy Marcs classes in a heartbeat : /
thanks for providing some amazing content on youtube still
Wheres the add to Playlist button?
I've been struggling with motivation lately, so I'm beind on the art school program... But I at least try to watch the videos.
Getting thrown AI stuff at me constantly is... Depressive...
I am not good in it and I am worst in autonomy
Too boring....i only needed to know the basic shape of our limps. I don't need a doctor's degree just to draw some funny pictures. It's too much work 😢
Then look up some videos on simplified anatomy and follow that...
I think this is exactly what I was needing honestly... yet again... GET out of my BRAIN
I'd repeat this until I felt my anatomy was "sufficient." (This took roughly 6 weeks)
Then I went on to practicing on a girl model.
Hey, great video. Totally gonna starting next week. Also, do your custom brushes work with Krita?
For Halloween, please dress up as Kratos (from first 3 games) and deliver a lesson in his angry manner! :D I know you have the muscles for it!!!
