I've been trying to teach myself, I've never had an art teacher, so I resort to looking online and checking out references! Ive learned a lot so far and my art has definitely gotten better! I wish all of you beginner artists luck because the journey is long and it takes a lot of practice!
because Marc is generally a good Art Teacher, he has helped me in literally everything I do to do with art. 3d modeling/scluplting has gone so much better by using Marcs tips. My general art has improved and I try to not overwhelm myself with all these things I want to do. Instead I keep them in the backround and focus on my current project.

I feel like my biggest issue with drawing is proportions. Every time I try and draw a face, the proportions get all wacked out and I can't figure it out. I know it'll take practice, but seeing how bad my drawings are compared to what I see in my brain is super demotivating and it keeps me away from drawing.
I just started learning how to draw / make art, I'm loving your content on how easy and focused each videos are! It's a great balance between learning what's most important and then being able to purposefully practice those key concepts. Even as a hobby, at 24, it felt very intimidating not knowing where to start, and also to not get discouraged even if it's just for myself. Slowly starting to learn the fundamentals, and I'm getting more confident every time I practice :)
@@esco7500 I started off with Marc's videos on how to draw the basics like head shape, hands, and feet. After I managed to get the hang of it and do it somewhat properly, I went into learning the construction of the body (2D shapes version). Once I did those 3, I tried out combining all of those to draw a basic pose (literally just a figure standing), not too focused on the details as for me the face is incredibly difficult 😅 Right now I'm learning construction with more dynamic poses and uses the 3D shapes with cylinders to get more of an understanding on how to pose. Also, I try to draw from reference on whatever I'm watching on youtube if I have downtime. Hope this helps you add some structure! I was definitely overwhelmed at first lol but I know what I'm leaning towards drawing as well so what I'm learning is focused towards that, but the fundamentals for me are more important.
The best thing for a artist to do, is basically create a hobbie for that certain thing he wants to do: Drawing, or maybe programming, music, 3d modelling, and etc If you want to do a really hard project, but you can't, just wait, and do another smaller projects, until you have experience to do these hard things
I have an important question about the part "doing challenging exercises". I have been doing a particular type of exercise each day. At first, I found them to be very difficult, but this became easier over time the more I practised the exercise. I have made significant improvements over time with this exercise, but lately I make less mistakes or they are less severe than when I originally started doing the exercise. Thus this has also led to less improvements .This made me wondering if it is still worth doing a type of exercise if it isn't as challenging as it originally used to be? Any input is greatly appreciated.
Yes, just because it's easier now doesn't mean it isn't still beneficial. Just because you've sharpened your knife and it cuts cleanly doesn't mean you don't need to continuously maintain it. It just kinda means you also should incorporate other exercises and/or minimize how much you're doing your current exercise. If you're already that proficient, you don't really NEED to do it every day. Depending on your level of comfort, you can do it every other day or every week.
This sounds like a great strategy, but I don't see it working for everyone. It definitely wouldn't be a strategy I can follow. Doing a small amount of progress every day isn't something I do. I learn a huge amount when I'm in the mood and otherwise don't learn anything new for a while. Pushing through and forcing myself to learn makes me hate what I'm doing, what really helps is finding something that draws in my curiosity and then diving into the rabbit hole of that thing. An example was me trying to learn perspective, I was just drawing a 2 pt perspective and went "hey I want to rotate an object. How do I do that?" Realised it wasn't immediately obvious and then I proceeded to spend the rest of the day going into a deep dive of perspective and learnt a lot. I don't need to repetitively practice just perspective after that, because I end up applying what I learnt to my next artwork and tweak that artwork until it reaches the same level as my knowledge. I apply those skills to artworks but I'm not making those artworks to practice that skill, rather I try apply that skill to make my artwork better. Indirect practice over direct practice. This way of going about things makes my skill in art level up in sudden bursts. It's been really effective for me so far. I'm by no means an expert, but I am going on to being a professional and have been able to make a good living off of my art.
It is to late for 29 years old to learning art again? I used to draw when I was 5 - 12 years old, but when I was 13. I stopped drawing because of part-time work and teenager stuffs. Hey Marc. I was wondering where that other drawing you did went, when you said you'd color it on Clip Studio. I would love to see it colored on another studio by you!
I want to learn animation, I’m 14 and have a good grasp on perspective and anatomy. I understand fine art techniques, but I’m so far from where I’m aiming for at the moment, and I know it’ll be hard work. These videos and the hundreds of others I watch and study from are so useful but I’m probably going to break the philosophy of this channel and go to university. The social aspects, learning how to further refine what I know and “mostly” living cheap on a campus for a year is a nice idea. But this stuff is so useful that I and many others probably don’t NEED to go to uni, but I still just like the experience of uni, and the joy I get when I fail at an artwork and then recover the week after. This is such a lovely passion to have and (although I hardly interact with it) a lovely community

Hi Marc! I love how the mannequins in the background change positions every video xD I loved this class and everything mentioned makes so much sense. Also, I know I have said this before but watching you draw is such a treat! It makes me happy lol thank you and see you next class!!
I draw but ever since I had taken not that long of a break at one point it feels like a constant struggle to do so. I keep questioning if I really like or want to draw anymore and why. But I felt like it is the only thing I'm good and don't want to give up.
Maybe try something you haven't done. Sometimes, it's something you need to add to your lifestyle. Once you're mind is off things, revisit your art work for a short amount of time.
Thank you! This is exactly what I needed right now. I've dreamed of becoming a professional artist in my whole life. Yet I ended up as a simple welder. I like doing it, but can't really imagine myself doing this my whole life. Thanks to you, becoming a professional artist is not a dream anymore, but my ultimate goal.
I have a problem I have drawn anime since 2018 And until now I can't develop my art + i need to learn how to draw body but I don't know where can I start ??
Hi, thanks for the video! What if I lost the ultimate goal in drawing? that is, I really don't have a clear goal, there are too many areas in drawing that I would like or could try. Is the goal simply to become better than the norm?
The only thing classes taught me was my art was worthless and I should give up... I did... but I got back to it after realizing it wasn't bad and I've improved a lot in the last few months...
Marc you are quite literally my role model. I started my journey of improving at the beginning of the year and even tho it feels like im just copying others' work i can still say your videos and tutorials have taught me way more than ever. For that i wanna say thank you and keep up the good work!
I bought your anatomy course recently where it goes overall all of the functions and muscle parts of the body. I can't tell you how invaluable it has been! The level of clarity and simplification makes it so much easier to understand! Highly recommended!
Stan Prokopenko and Marshall Vandruff did a great 8 parter podcast about how you should go about making art school at home. Draftsmen Podcast S2 episodes 1-4, 6-7. I personally found it very useful.
Thank you so much for the ready made schedule. I’m generally good at seeing where I’ve improved and where I struggle, but I have so much trouble keeping focused and everything sorted in my head without a game plan/schedule to work off of. ❤
Turns out I can't seem to draw very strait, so I'm gonna look up videos that help explain how I can. Right now, my short term goal is effortlessly draw a straight line This is where the snowball effects starts. I can only go up from here.
I've been drawing as a hobby since i was veeeeery little and never really wanted to become a professional. Just doing it as a hobby was perfect for me. But now, almost 20 years after taking a pencil for the first time, I'm stuck. I never learned the basics, just kept drawing regularly. So I don't know much about perspective, color theory and all that XD And now I want to improve, just for my own pleasure, and my biggest problems are ressources and motivation. And now that I have discovered your channel I finally have my ressources ^^ Thank you so much for that !
So, my art progress currently doing a study as a self-taught artist but also opening a commission to challenge myself about creating artworks properly for people. workin and study, what a great reminder, and thank you marc-sensei!
Wow...! I'm so blown away by this video. The way you incorporate healthy thinking has stuck with me, especially your note about the process getting easier with time. I'll definitely remember that!
OMGGGGG this video just fell from the skyess!!! Thank you so muchhhh you have no idea how much I've been needing something as simple as a structure, a system to keep me consistent! I think this is what I struggle with the most, since I have college and other projects and stuff, and I dunno why but somehow I always end up relegating drawing practice to the end, basically never actually doing it. Actually I am really consistent with the other stuff, but not with drawing. I believe it is because drawing has so many sub-skills and fundamentals that I don't know where to start. And when I do, I don´t know which excercises to do, or I repeat the same set of excercises way too much and get bored. Well, I said it already, that lack of a structure, a plan or clear roadmap is what makes it so difficult for me to just sit down 2 hours a day and draw. I feel really disoriented. Some months ago I got some weeks consistently drawing, and I don't remember why, but at some point I stopped doing it, and it´s so frustrating because I do have projects that involve drawing. I do want to improve, and I do enjoy drawing, but it´s really hard to keep accountable. So really Marc, thank you so much, I´ll try it and give it my best! *Consistency is KEY!!*
just a quick thought, no artist is selftaught. If you are reading a book the knowledge you aquire isnt from observing or doing something on your own. its knowledge from someone else. when you copy from someone else because you like their style, its knowledge from someone else. it doesnt matter if a teacher at a school says something to you or if you are reading their book. someone is always teaching you, activly or passivly
When I was in nursing school my brain 🧠 would hurt like it was actually breaking apart when I would study for human anatomy or micro biology. It is such a uniquely painful feeling 😂. But as Marc said it goes away with time. Just like working out any other muscle in the body. So when my brain felt like it was breaking as I studied perspective I knew I was actually learning and welcomed it…now I’m a learning masochist.
I started a portrait painting class yesterday... it was crazy. I was learning all sorts of new stuff just from watching my teacher draw examples with a charcoal. Well, not really learning, more like making connections with the things I had already known. I was one of the most experienced artists there, and by watching him do things with the same and greater knowledge that I have in ways I hadn't seen before was a real eye opener. My charcoal portraits became significantly better in a matter of minutes.
I never went to an art school and have been learning art bu i wont call myself a self tought artist because i watch videos on how to do stuff so i consider artists that make those videos as teachers.
Thanks for considering it! Definitely! A LOT of the students use only pen and paper. You get the program for life so I still recommend trying digital at some point to make the most out of it, but you’ll still be able to do over 80% of the program with traditional tools only :)
Number 5 has been an ongoing issue for me, since any critique from other artists is impossible to get via my Instagram and Facebook pages or even the one Art page I've found that doesn't devolve into toxicity. Can anyone recommend a better forum to post my work to get more feedback than simply "that's good"?
I am self learning slowly but steady. I do it for fun, while I don't have much time. I think it is better than just staring at a screen waiting for time to happen. Also I want to just draw . even if it isn't good. I think it is fun .
@@YTartschool lucky you. I'm the closest to the teacher, she will notice for sure that I'm not paying attention to class and just drawing. And they might just deport my ass out of the country because of it, lol. I still manage to practise around 2hours after lessons though, but I understand that that amount of time is too small.
I have been teaching myself for 4,5 years now (I did draw before but only as a hobby for years), about 4-5 hours daily and... well, although it is the best learning method for me, I am very afraid that I won't ever make it as an artist. It might have practised the wrong things I fear, like my art is mediocre-intermediate at best. With my pace it will take at least another 5 years until I can be a professional which feels very embarassing. I hate being one of the slow-learners. :/ Maybe, when I started I also did a mistake by thinking that I can be a professional artist after 3-5 years... due to this, I have some issues currently to practise, have lost my goals somehow. Like, why should I aim for X when I did not even reach Y until now... I am in a small study group with three other professionals, I hope this helps me. Anyway, nice video as always.
Don’t lose hope we all learn at a different speed and it’s normal , i know this feeling of being stuck and not see the improvement but with time observation and studies you can only get better .Maybe it’s something that you heard a lot from other talented person but practice the art fondamental is really the key to get better (1construction 2perspective 3gesture 4anatomy 5color and light 6composition 7Design) it REALLY helped me to improve and i sincerely hope that you will become the artist you aim to be
Buys marc's art program "Man I love this material but I wish I knew how to structure my life to get through it" Marc drops free video on how to do just that :D
I think I came to the wrong video, maybe. I was thinking this video was going to be about how to study art and teach yourself how to improve. Maybe I just need some constructive critique, idk. I just really want to get better at rendering and it's not making sense
Yo Mr Mark sir..it's been a while since I've drawn anything Iam in the 12th grade and I have less time Plus I have a huge art block I really need some help And Iam also losing my mojo 😭
Hey, pls record something about A.I drawing programs. Im co confused right now seeking amazing arts created just by the program. As a amateur in drawing Im worry about spending few years to learning and loose with it..
Any advice on how to recover or conserve focus after an 8-hour work-shift? I'm always mentally and sometimes emotionally drained and can't always get myself to do anything after coming home. I wish I didn't have to leave creating things until the weekend :(

The hell is wrong with youtube, why ur videos have so little views with almost 40-50% of likes, these videos should have way more views
me:not watching the video
also me:HOW DOES HE DRAW THAT WHAT????!!!!
You were a prof artist at 17 👀
I have a problem
I have drawn anime since 2018
And until now I can't develop my art + i need to learn how to draw body but I don't know where can I start ??
This video really would have helped an austrian painter from 1930💀
Sorry for the offensiv comment
I will apply for art school anyway. And if they reject me, i will become a politician instead.
Greetings from Germany!
whenever you feel hopeless.. marc comes in clutch with a new video! you never fail to teach me marc and im improving alot after watching your videos!!
Hi, thanks for the video! What if I lost the ultimate goal in drawing? that is, I really don't have a clear goal, there are too many areas in drawing that I would like or could try. Is the goal simply to become better than the norm?
“Oh it’s you again”
Me who haven’t watched a single video prior to this one: Are you sure about that?
studying other artists helps fill gaps where your imagination is lacking
I’m sorry, you got hired as a concept artist at 19?!?!! Wizard material
"your brain is not your leader you are"
me:alright mother flicker you hear me dude it learn it!!!!!!!!
brain:oh no.........
Keep going champ
I bought your anatomy course recently where it goes overall all of the functions and muscle parts of the body. I can't tell you how invaluable it has been! The level of clarity and simplification makes it so much easier to understand! Highly recommended!
Stan Prokopenko and Marshall Vandruff did a great 8 parter podcast about how you should go about making art school at home.
Draftsmen Podcast S2 episodes 1-4, 6-7.
I personally found it very useful.
just when i'm so clueless where to start, you made a post! You're a lifesaver! I'm a non-artist try to draw actually
Thank you so much for the ready made schedule. I’m generally good at seeing where I’ve improved and where I struggle, but I have so much trouble keeping focused and everything sorted in my head without a game plan/schedule to work off of. ❤
Me totally not clicking on this video by accident whilst not having any intrest in drawing then later finding myself trying to learn drawing
Hey Marc thanks for putting together stuff like this :). I feel lost so this is really helpful!
This was 29 seconds ago, but it has 35 likes. What?
how does one consume art? is it like watching the videos related to your goals?
Very inspiring! I love how you break daunting subjects into such straightforward parts
Plan's are boring.
Just love to draw.
Hitler should have watched this before going to art school
I guess I'll start with as simple as I can go. ✨️Shapes✨️
Turns out I'm bad at drawing shapes. Then I realized they are made by drawing ✨️lines✨️ so I'll start there
Turns out I can't seem to draw very strait, so I'm gonna look up videos that help explain how I can. Right now, my short term goal is effortlessly draw a straight line
This is where the snowball effects starts. I can only go up from here.
Thank you for the content Mark god bless❤️🤍
I used to be…fairly good but haven’t picked up a pencil in *years.* The “itch” to draw has come back. I have no idea where to begin…
SAME
I've been drawing as a hobby since i was veeeeery little and never really wanted to become a professional. Just doing it as a hobby was perfect for me. But now, almost 20 years after taking a pencil for the first time, I'm stuck.
I never learned the basics, just kept drawing regularly. So I don't know much about perspective, color theory and all that XD
And now I want to improve, just for my own pleasure, and my biggest problems are ressources and motivation.
I'll definitely remember that!
a certain german failed artist should've watched this video before going into politics…
Idk who you're talking about, but I know about an Austrian failed artist who went into politics
I got a stich while reading that
Marc is the type of guy- I mean there's no words... he's just super cool and helpful to us learning artists.
Marc: get a good nights sleep!
Me watching this at 3 AM
Same 😭💀
ty for the new video marc *explodes*
just a quick thought, no artist is selftaught.
HONEY WAKE UP MARC BRUNET POSTED
6:30 well organized folder... HA HA HA.... fk

me, thinking of what i wish to do with good art;
marc : *i want to illustrate your dungeons and dragons stuff*
...
*yes*
His shirt 👀
When I was in nursing school my brain 🧠 would hurt like it was actually breaking apart when I would study for human anatomy or micro biology. It is such a uniquely painful feeling 😂. But as Marc said it goes away with time. Just like working out any other muscle in the body. So when my brain felt like it was breaking as I studied perspective I knew I was actually learning and welcomed it…now I’m a learning masochist.
Noooooo I saw the notification and got distracted I'm an hour late dang it, I must double like and also take notes thanks for the class teach!
Man, has someone told you that you look like a bald Jake Gyllenhaal? Anyway, what I want to say is THANK YOU for sharing your knowledge with us!
Hi,
I am not a digital artist i prefer papier,
Do the art school class Can bé benefit for me anyway ?
Thanks for considering it! Definitely! A LOT of the students use only pen and paper.
You get the program for life so I still recommend trying digital at some point to make the most out of it, but you’ll still be able to do over 80% of the program with traditional tools only :)
Big thanks you
Have you put a part of yourself on the shelf, Marc! 🤣
I threw it away no worries
Number 5 has been an ongoing issue for me, since any critique from other artists is impossible to get via my Instagram and Facebook pages or even the one Art page I've found that doesn't devolve into toxicity.
Can anyone recommend a better forum to post my work to get more feedback than simply "that's good"?
I am self learning slowly but steady. I do it for fun, while I don't have much time. I think it is better than just staring at a screen waiting for time to happen.
Also I want to just draw . even if it isn't good. I think it is fun .
Only 4 hours of focus a day? Kinda depressing. If you have school or work that is not related to art you're fucked.
I was drawing in class, that’s the cheat code
Don’t lose hope we all learn at a different speed and it’s normal , i know this feeling of being stuck and not see the improvement but with time observation and studies you can only get better .Maybe it’s something that you heard a lot from other talented person but practice the art fondamental is really the key to get better (1construction 2perspective 3gesture 4anatomy 5color and light 6composition 7Design) it REALLY helped me to improve and i sincerely hope that you will become the artist you aim to be
"You get about 4 hours of focus max"
My school about to hit me with 6(or more) hours of different subjects a day: "Allow me to introduce myself"
I have no choice but being self taught, art course is too expensive for me…
Objective: Have fun!
So basically- choose art school when it is not readily available. Then practice. DND campaigns. Make em
I feel this video was less about art but more about how to learn anything in life.
I'm not late, master 🙇♂️🙏
Jesus Christ is lord lord savior
As someone who not only enjoys the culture but also wants to create it, I thank you
Visualize the goal, got it
Me in art school watching this bc my teachers DONT TEACH ART LIKE A NORMAL TEACHER DO
PS: IM IN ITALY😭
*focus*
what can you offer to people with ADHD, bad habits, and varying problems that'll hinder progress?
Though I don't plan on becoming an artist, I happened to stumble upon these videos. Your words really helped me with my own goals, thank you.
Buys marc's art program
"Man I love this material but I wish I knew how to structure my life to get through it"
Marc drops free video on how to do just that :D
Can't pay for course 500$+, because living in the 3rd world country, but your videos very useful, thank you.
I think I came to the wrong video, maybe. I was thinking this video was going to be about how to study art and teach yourself how to improve. Maybe I just need some constructive critique, idk. I just really want to get better at rendering and it's not making sense
Yo Mr Mark sir..it's been a while since I've drawn anything
Iam in the 12th grade and I have less time
Plus I have a huge art block
I really need some help
And Iam also losing my mojo 😭
Hey, pls record something about A.I drawing programs. Im co confused right now seeking amazing arts created just by the program. As a amateur in drawing Im worry about spending few years to learning and loose with it..
Any advice on how to recover or conserve focus after an 8-hour work-shift? I'm always mentally and sometimes emotionally drained and can't always get myself to do anything after coming home. I wish I didn't have to leave creating things until the weekend :(
