Well, I did say it was weird! You actually understood the concepts really well - almost all of the stuff you were confounded/frustrated by was indeed the Source engine not really being set up for this. The 'clean straight angle' issue you found I still don't fully understand - my best guess is that you either slightly clip the edge of the portal as you go in, or it's a quirk of portal funneling. I never fixed it because it's not part of the intended puzzle sequence (also I don't know how to fix it). I think that same issue is also to blame for the one time you did the speed gel angle-into-an-angle move and yet flung up to the pedestal button area again, when you really should have gone straight up. That's a known issue which I also never managed to fix. Hope you enjoyed yourself despite everything - I'm happy with the visuals/environment even if the puzzles can be on the strange/frustrating side. Thanks for playing!
4:40 - My monkey brain also tried its hardest to break this glass 5:05 - The way I did it was completely different but yours seems way more intended and elegant lol 9:19 - Hahahahah, that's an amazing detail I hadn't noticed 11:25 - Oh, we getting ngeruma lore now? 18:26 - The reason is that you're hitting your head on the edge of the portal and killing all sideways momentum 22:53 - I mean, it's completely up to you how many times you want to retry a fling versus first try with funneling :P 26:12 - Portal funneling technically only works when the portal is "on the floor" (no angles). If there's any funneling in this map, it was manually made with triggers Great video! You did really well, I had to retry some moves to get them to work as well haha
Loved this! Back when I used to build chambers, I really enjoyed pushing what could be done in the basic PeTI builder, so quirky things like this are right up my alley.
I hope I'm not the only one that notices, that the bright part of the portal outline is based on how you face it. It might be what was affecting the trajectory.

Apparently one of the volunteers for our time travel program didn't see the 'no food or drinks' sign on his way into the testing sphere and, look, I don't want to bore you with details but long story short, we think the space-time continuum may have, ever so slightly, exploded. Now, the lab boys are busy working out what exactly that's going to mean for you and, more importantly, me, but in the meantime, be on the lookout for anything out of the ordinary - any subtle clues that the fabric of time may be unstable. I think it's a bit of meanness that you have to go up to the goal once to see the hidden panel. I was pretty sure that you could get the cube with the speedy-gel diagonal-enter flinging type maneuver. It seems very painful that hitting your waist or shin on the edge of portals.
decided to play this map, for the first room there's a much easier way to do it, just placing the flat portal beforehand and the angled portal midair. the last room REALLY confused me. i got the same solution as you but it did not feel intentional in the slightest. great map but confusing puzzles
11:26 average br*ts? average european for sure 17:03 technically there IS an indication for the orientation. look closely at the border of the portal, one end has lighter color I like evelyncarnate maps and the no elements maps as well but somehow this felt a bit off. Idk why
Quantum tunneling means that the portals are a DOOR, not a tunnel. You placed both of the portals at the same rotation and orientation so the angle of your exit will exactly match your angle of entry. Think of it this way: ->| => |-> (Blue => Orange) so \ | |\ ---> \ | ==> | \ ---> \| | \ which means \ | |.... ---> \ | ==> | : \| | v In other words, angle in equals angle out and out is reversed from in. Watching you trying to do advanced things in Portal 2 is like watching a 5 year old trying to figure out how to drive a big rig.
my best guess from somewhat knowing the RE code, is that you need a specific angle when entering the portal otherwise it will "normalize" the angle and become a straight portal. I think you need to enter it from something like 20-40 degrees and not 5-15. (eg put a protractor on the ground and measure your entry angle).
Backwards? why the hell is it backwards?. and most importantly WHY IS IT OLD APERTURE, anyways. let's hope that once you play another map we get to have something that actually isn't all that weird.. if it aint friday atleast.
