- I’ve been reading your comments and everyone wants to know if the blue light exposure they get from their digital devices is putting them at risk for eye damage. I get it. We’re all working from home on our computers during the day and checking our phones constantly. That surely must be doing something to our vision, right? Let’s break down the truth behind all-things blue light, such as digital eye strain, the 20/20/20 rule, and macular degeneration.
I LOVE reading your comments and take your suggestions seriously. If there’s a subject you want me to discuss or something you’d like for me to react to, leave a comment down below. Many of my videos have been born out of suggestions directly from you, so don’t hold back!

You can get app to filter blue light on your phone if it's not already built in and can be turned off and on. ;)
Your phone or tablet may have a comfort mode, or a setting that you can turn on, to reduce blue light bring emitted from it. I set a schedule on my phone to enable comfort mode around 8pm or Sunset. I believe my TV has a similar feature too.

@rashmi kamath you should also watch this before you order blue light glasses online. ruclips.net/video/NkJY9bgLyBE/видео.html
@phil coulson , I’m a bit confused from the video you posted. How does it relate to anything Dr. Mike stated about blue light affecting an individuals sleep pattern? At zero point did Dr. Mike state you must purchase “blue light protecting” glasses to save your eyes from “detrimental damage” caused by blue light. the video was to briefly inform the viewer to “perhaps” stop viewing a tv, phone, computer screen right before bed so you can actually go to sleep. The glasses were only a recommendation to a person who does look at a screen right before bed, which will assist blocking blue lights allowing a persons to fall asleep sooner.
In short... did we wash the same Dr. Mike video about blue light?😅😂
@@leroylonewolf5858 The thing is people may think that buying the glasses would help and solve their blue light problem but they would neglect the digital strain part, bc in their thought the glasses are blocking the lights, so I'm just giving them more data so they would research and talk to their doctors before investing into the glasses.
LeRoy Lonewolf he did. It was his third recommendation, he even supported this recommendation with a study in which a group of individuals wore blue light blocking glasses and another group used very dim lights, and none of them showed significant changes in their melatonin levels. Actually, he EVEN promoted a company where you can buy those glasses

I did a lot of this research myself when I was considering getting blue light blocking glasses. Ended up deciding I didn't need them because blue light is not what's causing my eye strain, like you said. Hopefully people can watch this video instead of spending a bunch of time reading research!
Also: That intro kind of hints at villain Dr. Mike, that's a movie I'd watch haha
I think blue light is contributing to my eye strain. My straining focus was giving me slight blurriness. Than insomnia was not helping either. I got blue light glasses from my eye doctor. Than put night mode on iPhone. It seems better to watch videos and read now.

Last time I was this early, Blue light wasn’t a problem...
I think it should also be pointed out that wearing glasses with blue light blockers all day can be a problem. Many of us who wear glasses all the time also have blue light blocker added. However, as you mentioned it’s important to get this blue light during the day. So blocking it all day and then having lots of light during the evening continue gives your circadian system no ability to entrain itself. We need the correct zeitgebers at the correct times.
I wasn't expecting the introduction 🤥
Anyways, thank you for the info❤
At the beginning, I thought this was some kind of movie
As an optometrist, Dr. Mike did his research. I repeat this stuff over and over every day. I would say that his sponsor's bluelight filtering glasses are not as effective as using the programs that change the color of your screen. The reason why the glasses he put on were clear and also do not effect the wearer's color vision perception is because they don't block that much blue light. Glasses companies and optometrists want to make money off you by selling glasses when these programs and settings on your devices already do this stuff for free.
Yeah this was a disappointing departure from his usually critical and scientifically accurate information. The rest of the video was good, but to turn it into an ad for glasses with no good evidence of efficacy has me worried he is going to go like all the other famous American doctors.
@irked I wear a glass with is supposed to protect eyes from blue light, when you see is from out sight that has a blue effect,I want to does it really blocks the light, also can you help me to get rid off myopia
@@cold7124 consult an eye doctor about your questions because they should be able to give you accurate answers. Its unethical for me to give you advice over the internet without having examined you.
wait so are blue light glasses useless?
@@rani5083 the ones that block a significant amount, which are therefore no longer clear... more yellowish, do help with circadian rhythm and falling asleep faster, just as Dr. Mike mentioned. But the ones that are clear don't work all that well because they only block a little bit, we dont think its actually effective enough. The computer programs work better. Some people believe they help with eye strain, its probably a placebo effect, but it doesn't harm you.
Thanks Mike. I needed that.

Recommendation to people who use computers a lot: download f.luxx. They're SO helpful for your eyes at night. YMMV but for me I have my sunset to Halogen (3400) and my bedtime to 3000. While it's important to lower the blue light down to relax your eyes, if you go TOO warm it can dampen the monitor contrast which might make pictures and text harder to read, and therefore make you squint more which defeats the purpose. Of course, during the day go full blue light while the sun is out. AND ALWAYS KEEP YOUR ROOM BRIGHT! Even with warm light, if your room is pitch black it hurts your eyes.
Redshift works as well - it can let you adjust the color temperature as well as brightness either throughout the entire day, or at different parts of the day.
Thank you for this rec. Teaching remotely at night has really pushed back my bedtime (happy endorphins +blue light) and so will try this out.
