I use prescription glasses (only about 0.50 - 1.00) , and I opted to have a blue light filter. It makes everything slightly amber, and I like it! It eliminated my eye strain as well, if only the lenses were taller to cover more height.. Definitely on my next pair!
Thank you for all the educational videos you make for us. They've been more helpful for me than any doctor I've personally been to. You've helped me choose which blue-light would be best for me and given me lots of ways to help with my very dry eyes! I was wondering if you ever considered making a patreon or some sort of way for people to connect with you and ask you questions about their personal conditions. sort of like a paid doctor appointment.
Actually i was given a choice by the eye clinic to choose a total blue type glass and a clear looking glass(with the filter) and i ended up going for the total clear one. Now my eyes gets super sensitive when i see white color. I am thinking of going for the yellow shaded type glasses, hopefully they reduce the stress completely.
Thank you for the info! My mom bought us anti-rad glasses, imagine my confusion when I didn't know what they're for, haha! Love your shirt, it's really lovely.

I went to an ophthalmologist and had them analyze exactly what I needed. They did an amazing job and it was life changing for my IT job. However, they didn't see blue light blocking technology as necessary since the sun and being outside provides 100x more exposure.
Yes but you’re not staring at the sun for 10+ hours a day. Also the sun doesn’t emit only blue light. Since wearing computer glasses my eye floaters have all but stopped and I don’t get headaches and eye strain
Why can't we reverse your ophthalmologist's argument and say that this means that we need eye protection for outdoors as well? But even if exposure to the sun makes a small difference, why take any chances? It's our health we're talking about.

Cool shirt. Very informative, I bought some low power readers for book reading. My blue light glasses have zero magnification. Initially I thought they helped, but then started trying my readers and found them much better. I don't get eyestrain, but I do notice easier focusing with my readers. I went to eye exam to confirm, I still have 20/20, but she wanted to provise 'reading glasses' mainly because insurance paid, so I waived that to just keep my standard readers. She offered a bigger number than I'm comfortable with, my long distance is superb.
Wow! I am so glad you made this for us. I was trying to figure this out today while at work and found your video and it answered what I needed to know. Blue light glasses off Amazon is what I should get now. Thanks 🙏

No problem at all. Thank you for liking my comment and I also started following you on Instagram and would recommend your channel to my friends and my sister too.
Thank you Dr. Allen for the educational video. I stay almost all my day behind both my laptop and mobile screens. The area around my eyes is very wrinkly, red, tired, and I wake up every day to see bulging below the eyes. Do I need computer or blue light glasses, or both? What glasses are perfect for me? You're a treasure to the community.
Thanks Doctor for this informative video. I have a question. I did a Lasik surgery two years back and as I'm working in office using my laptop and phone a lot, I decided to wear eyeglasses which are very normal lenses just for the sake of protection to my eyes. I mean there are some protection layers in the lenses but with no vision improvements if you get my point. Is that Ok to have and use?
I use software for those needs. In most (if not all) modern operating systems, you can set a blue light - reduction mode to kick in at a specific time (for example several hours before your bedtime) and then return back to normal lighting in the morning. Smartphones also have this capability. For eye strain - you can increase the scale from the display settings. So, those needs can be addressed with no need of special tools, other than software settings in your OS. If you're prescribed reading glasses and feel the need to use it, when you're in front of a computer - then, by all means do.
I recently bought a pair of Gunnar Ellipse Glasses with their 65 amber and .2 magnification! Interested to see how I like them over the coming weeks, but I'm not all too certain about the magnification, as I tend to remove my glasses at home/ long screen use, so that alone will take some "getting used to"
Do you know of any blue light glasses that have prescription while at the same time not having too harsh of a yellow tint? I'm an artist so it's vital the colors on the screen aren't affected by the tint of my glasses.
Yes, There is some blue light blocking in a few A/R coatings and even in Transition lenses - but those are best obtained through a local optical or glasses shop.
Excellent Suggestion! Wearing a plus lens when working on your computer, greatly reduces eye strain. In fact, some people go from 20/50 to 20/20, but that dedicated strain reduction process!
@@anthonyaguirre1498 From an ODs advice for his children, from 20/50, on my Snellen. 1) Reading at 20 inches, I wear a +2 Diopter. 2) Reading at 10 inches, I wear a +3 Diopter. 3) Now I verify 20/20.
Hey, I'm a doctor and shift worker. I spend a lot of time in hospital exposed to white light and spend a lot of time in front of computer screens (EEG-monitoring). I wish to know whether blue light glasses may be good for the white light as well. Or if there is any other choice for preserving normal melatonin production even being on shift. Thank you!
Dear Allen, I may appear to be your "critic". But not so. I met an OD (who was about -3 Diopters) He was so convinced for the need for the "prevention plus", that he forced his kids to wear the plus, throughout the school years!! When they were not yet nearsighted. Exhaustive research, convinced me that he was right as pure science. Legally, I know you can not do this. But your advice, (of dedicated plus wearing) truly points in that direction. Thank you.
What is the difference between having magnification to help with convergence vs a prism vs a small ADD in the bottom (like Essilor anti fatigue/sightrelax)? I had a concussion and was given a 2 fresnel prism and told to wear them with a no rx lenses for computer work (I am nearsighted with a -2.00 rx for distance). However I was also told I would benefit from a small ADD of 0.6 for my distance lenses, but not to put the fresnel on my distance lenses. Would combining computer glasses with the 0.25 magnification along with the prism potentially provide additional benefit? When would you choose a fresnel prism over magnification for up close reading and vice versa? Similarly when would you choose the 0.25 magnification over the 0.4 ADD (0.4 is the lowest available) of the anti fatigue lenses? From my understanding they all help with convergence but with different mechanisms. There seems to be so many opinions it’s very difficult as a consumer to navigate! Thanks for helping to demystify the eyecare world with your videos!
So Awesome video Dr, Love from India, Sir I am having glasses which is having green tint and also blueish tint in it, is it a blue ut lenses please explain?
Now my problem are solved thank u so much i didnt know whats wong with my eyes and having alot of headche i thought i almost lost my vision this really helps
Hi, awesome channel! What kind of glasses would you recommend for distance -.75 vision? Generally for everyday (only) indoor use around the house and watching tv etc. I wear contacts out the house. Maybe blue light or just standard computer? Thanks in advance!
Yes! I use computer glasses combined with blue light screen film. They are so much clearer and eye strain comfortable than my multi focal glasses (which caused me to hold my head at the small band focal length). I set my computer glasses at approx 36" length from the screen. I like to lean back on the office chair and watch video's, etc. I go back to the multi focal glasses especially when typing because the keyboard is naturally too close for the keyboard when a lot of typing is necessary. I also purchase a pair of reading glasses to allow easy book or letter reading, All three glasses sit on top of my printer and I flick them around as required. The reading glasses used infrequently. The multi focal ones used when I want to turn around a bit to view a bit of the TV news or game show.
I am trying to plan out which glasses I need as I use my iPad a lot of my day, and I do wear glasses. Should i go and get some blue-light glasses or should I ask my eye-care professional about getting some computer glasses?
Hello Dr Allen, thanks for the clarification between complete glasses and blue filter glasses. I gave a distance cylindrical power in both eyes. Both are different and have different axis. I use anti reflection coated glasses and use the same for computer use as well. I was never recommended to use social glasses for computer usage. Is it ok to continue using the same glasses for computer as well? What are the options?
I use 2 types of eyeglasses. When casually walking around on the floor and jumping quick behind the computer, I used my trifocal progressive glasses. When working behind my desk for an extended period of time, I use dedicated computer progressive glasses.
When I recently was prescribed glasses for astigmatism (I had blurry vision after staring at my phone and books for too long) my doctor warned me about using them “when I didn’t need them” because of eye-muscle atrophy. He said to use them as a tool when my vision felt strained, but not to use them every time I read, since we want our eye muscles to still “exercise,” as it were (to use your lifting analogy). What do you think about this? Is it better to always use the glasses when reading (on my phone and books) to reduce the amount of weight (5lbs instead of 20) or continue to use the glasses only sometimes?
It is difficult for me to fully comment as I was not there for your exam. There is a lot to be said about someones accommodative ability. The nice thing is that accommodation can be trained (to an extent or until presbyopia fully sets in). For most people, true atrophy of the ciliary body is not a real thing. But poor coordination and control of the eye muscles is. I am also not sure how strong your prescription was, where it is usually not appropriate to prescribe a full reading power to someone who is not fully presbyopic. There are different theories on this but most doctors only prescribe 1/3rd to 1/2 of the accommodative demand for reading, as that is usually most comfortable and also allows for engagement of the accommodative system.
To be honest , I just really don’t want to wear normal glasses when I’m older , because I think they look ugly , I want something to stop damagingly my eyes , so I don’t have to wear them in later days , what do I need 😂
I want some sort of glasses that can really help my eyes from strain or some sort (digital editing is fun) and I have 20/20 vision but i just want some sort of pc glasses that dont zoom in and just does its job of not straining my eye. Is it possible?
Thank you for sharing the info. It's a great help as I use the pc for a long time. I use reading glass 1.00 when I'm using my phone but I just use blue light eyeglasses for pc. Thanks for letting us know the difference between computer vs blue light eyeglasses.

Readers with blue light is the way to go!
I am using blue light glasses and also I hit the like button, as you said to do.
Hey thank you! I appreciate that. It helps the channel.
Is that Ok to have and use?
same doubt here
I use software for those needs.
Interested to see how I like them over the coming weeks, but I'm not all too certain about the magnification, as I tend to remove my glasses at home/ long screen use, so that alone will take some "getting used to"
Hey man! How did you like them? Still wearing them?
@@CharlieHM Unfortunately no. The glare and magnification were a bit too much for me, unfortunately.
Mate you're the best, helped me a lot during this quarantine and these online classes..... Thank You soooooooo much!!
As usual, you had a video made to answer my questions - thanks again Doc. :)
Always happy to help!
I use a blue filter in my old style lined trifocal lens...the middle section serves as my computer glasses.
💯Nice!
Oh I want that!
This guys or should i say Person is exactly what the word DOCTOR means 🙂
You're the best 👍💯
U look perfect for being a doctor
Hahaha thank you! You are too kind
I literally said "come on Clark Kent" when I clicked on the video lol
Excellent Suggestion!
Wearing a plus lens when working on your computer, greatly reduces eye strain.
In fact, some people go from 20/50 to 20/20, but that dedicated strain reduction process!
Yes, exactly!
Hey Otie, as a person who is on computer screen and on phone due to work, What do you recommend I use? You seem to have experience.
Thank you!
This is just the info I was NEEDING! Thank you so much!!! It took forever to find this info. Your a live safer!
He uses blue light glasses on his blue eyes lmao
@mirmir love your name lol
Dear Allen,
I may appear to be your "critic".
But not so.
I met an OD (who was about -3 Diopters)
He was so convinced for the need for the "prevention plus", that he forced his kids to wear the plus, throughout the school years!!
When they were not yet nearsighted.
Exhaustive research, convinced me that he was right as pure science.
Legally, I know you can not do this.
But your advice, (of dedicated plus wearing) truly points in that direction.
Thank you.
Hey doc, how about a video on eyewear for driving? It would be really helpful. Thanks in advance.
Great suggestion!
I grew up thinking magnifying glasses are bad for our eyesight so watching this video was mindblowing...
I may not be early, nor last. But when Dr. Allen uploads, I click fast.
Hi doc! How are u?
Love this! I am doing alright. Back in the clinic this week, so it is a new change of pace vs the last few weeks. How are things on your end?
@@DoctorEyeHealth Great! It's been great too! I have a question. Do these computer glasses work if you have nearsightedness? Thanks
I'm currently using my glasses but with blue light , and how you said many but many of the doctors recommend it.
My normal eyeglasses that I need to see better have reflective coating for blue light on the same lens. It's been so much better for my eyes
Can you please do a video explaining whether or not wearing glasses makes your vision worse without glasses over time?
I use reading glasses with blue light and I've notice a great difference in my eye sight. I don't get as tired as before.
Thanks in advance!
thanks doc, this was very helpful. now I know what I'll get next week.
Hello doc.. İ had Lasik surgery two years ago my eyesight is still good.. İs it advisable to wear an eyesglass for eye protection when using computer?
@Lassi Kinnunen lol chill
Very good explanation Dr!
Thank you
This is great information. Thank you! I’ve been trying to take my eyes seriously but I need a check up still
I am trying to plan out which glasses I need as I use my iPad a lot of my day, and I do wear glasses. Should i go and get some blue-light glasses or should I ask my eye-care professional about getting some computer glasses?
I have the glasses for both. The blue light glasses do work very well.
I have some Jade Black Blue Light Glasses on the way tomorrow. Looking forward to using them heard so many good reviews about them
To be honest , I just really don’t want to wear normal glasses when I’m older , because I think they look ugly , I want something to stop damagingly my eyes , so I don’t have to wear them in later days , what do I need 😂

I want some sort of glasses that can really help my eyes from strain or some sort (digital editing is fun) and I have 20/20 vision but i just want some sort of pc glasses that dont zoom in and just does its job of not straining my eye. Is it possible?
Perhaps some form of prism could be prescribed by your eye doctor to help with eye strain.
@@DoctorEyeHealth Is that also possible? What is that prism thing
?
Thank you for sharing the info. It's a great help as I use the pc for a long time. I use reading glass 1.00 when I'm using my phone but I just use blue light eyeglasses for pc. Thanks for letting us know the difference between computer vs blue light eyeglasses.
Hi, thank you for the video! Do you recommend any glasses that double as computer AND blue light glasses? I’m finding either or, but would like that double as I read a lot of things on the computer for school
