  • The label New Gen manga has been used to describe new series from the good old classics like Dragon Ball and the big 3. However, as time has progressed, this label has lost all of its meaning and needs to be stopped.

New Gen is a term that means nothing anymore. Hell even series like Attack on Titan and Tokyo Ghoul get called New Gen when those series came out almost 10 years ago like WTF. It's also a shame how actual newer series like Choujin X, Sakamoto Days, Gachiakuta, Dandadan, Misson Yozakura Family, Kindergarten Wars, Undead Unluck, Far East Chimera, Blue Box, Akane Banashi, Dragon and Chameleon, Gokurakugai, Wild Strawberry and hell even Kagurabachi get ignored because people are still talking about the "New Gen" series that are not even new anymore, it's ridiculous

The One Punch Man example is so real. like bro the manga came out in 2012, and the web comic came out IN 2009! That is NOT new 💀also the NSMB comparison is perfect lol

@@ZupperWill ong. Like, Vinland Saga I can understand because the anime is newer, so ppl automatically assume the manga is too. But like, there's no excuse for OPM 💀🙏

Grouping manga in generations means absolutely nothing except for the satisfaction people get from putting things in groups. Like grouping up the legendary basketball players of the past vs today's. In my mind, it works by rough year ranges (like actual age generations do). Below is how I personally have it mapped out.
Grandfather Generation: 1980-1995 (DragonBall, Saint Seiya, JoJo's, Fist of the North Star, Slam Dunk, Yu Yu Hakusho, etc.)
Father Generation: 1997-2009 (One Piece, HxH, Naruto, Bleach, Hitman Reborn, Toriko, Death Note, Kuroko no Basket, etc.)
Last Generation: 2010-2019 (World Trigger, MHA, Black Clover, Demon Slayer, Jujutsu Kaisen, Haikyuu, Food Wars, Dr. Stone, etc.)
New Generation: 2020- (Sakamoto Days, Undead Unluck, Mashle, Akane Banashi, Blue Box, Nue's Exorcist, Kagurabachi?)

People saying they are surprised undead unluck and mashle even with an anime didnt become more than fairly popular animes WHEN LITERALLY ALL THE THINGS PEOPLE WATCH ARE THE SAME SHIT THAT IS MAINSTREAM and anything that isnt mainstream is considered a flop

My favorite new gen anime is going to be Jojo's Bizarre Adventure Steel Ball Run.

That's really easy. Everything that's released past the 2010s(manga only) is a new gen. If u don't get it doesn't mean the labeling is stupid.

It's stupid not because I don't get it but because calling series new gen when they have almost an entire decade under their belt makes no sense, especially when this is a made up label by consumers and not something established by the industry itself
