Thank you for the open discussion of how to catch these fish. It helps those like me who are just learning the sport. Have a great Monday!

I've been bass fishing for over 40 years. The very best lure I've found for when the bass are schooling- I mean feeding heavily, in schools- is an Old School ¼oz Hammered Chrome Mann's Li'l George. On a spinning rod with 12lb Gliss, you will be able to cast farther than most all other lures and it's working as long as it's in the water. FFS proves what we've suspected all along; the bigger bass usually let the smaller ones do the heavy chasing and slashing through the shad, while they like to just hang back and catch what is injured or killed and just falls right to them. That makes Li'l George the awesome schooling bait that it is. Also, when you're catching schoolers and you have followers or multiple bass chasing your hooked bass to the boat, if you're fishing a lure with 2 or more treble hooks, work your hooked fish in a figure '8' at the boat. Many times the followers will attack a shad imitating lure that is hanging out of your hooked bass' mouth. They're chasing the same shad, competing hard for them, and just can't resist one that they think just eluded one of their competitors. I've boated doubles like this FIVE TIMES in a day by using this technique that I learned from Ricky Clunn years ago. My lure that day was a ¼oz Chrome/Blue Rat-L-Trap.

Lol, “you saw the splash” …it’s fun when they reveal their location without the use of electronics!

Zaldain hit the nail square in the head. I have LS and I have learned so much just from watching the bass behavior. It's an amazing tool.

Can you share with us, what exactly have you learned? Thanks.

@Roma Loboda how they relate to structure, movement, feeding, how they react to sound, to lures, ect. Same with the bait fish. A lot of people bash FFS but the reality is because you can see them doesn't mean you can catch them. A mediocre fisherman with FFS will still be mediocre and struggle to catch fish. It completely changed the way I thought about fish positioning and the role structure has in that matter.

@@umi415 I see, thanks for your thoughts. By the way, do you feel the same way when you see fish on the screen when it's biting or when you don't know there is fish, and it's unknown if you will get a bite? Thanks.

@Roma Loboda the instances where that happens are rare. I'd say 90 percent of the time I don't see them.

If you don’t have forward facing sonar you can also look for seagulls or other birds diving on bait and just follow / chase them around the lake and hope you get over there fast enough to get on the fish 😂

For sure, birds are still the best fish finders in many cases.

That what they don’t get. They do all these tip videos and the tip is “well look down at your electronics and forward facing sonar” 80% of us can’t/won’t buy that stuff. They need to start making videos for all fisherman

They don't. It's all cashed out electronics with 3 screens and boats you dream of. I rarely watch these guys much due to that but it's quality content, just a different crowd.

Bank fishing is simple just cast at cover or maybe a grass line and fish it that’s about all you can do what more do you want.

They also aren’t little frail feathers they can survive a little splash. They jump just as high chasing baitfish out of they water and they are ok. It will be fine. We don’t have to call PETA.
