This is exactly how you take a TV theme and make it a movie theme. Largely the same, but beefed up with an orchestra and just given auch great scale and excitement
Best part is that Murray gold took some inspiration for the 2005 reboot
@@nerdyworld938 The TV movie inspired a lot of the revival, from the TARDIS console all the way to the Doctor's personality and view of the world.

The best part is that it's got a bit of buildup to it, so if you're a Who fan who still hasn't seen the movie, you're kept guessing even after the music starts until the four knocks part hits.

Thats the part that plays in my head when any good thing happens in a Doctor Who related anything (mainly fan projects getting uncancelled)
This feels like a great comeback theme for the Doctor after being off the air for ages - if the final episode ever airs I want them to use this in the end credits
I like this thing too but if the show ever ends it'll be with the original version and that first doctor speech you know the one day I shall come back

May be a controversial opinion but I maintain the belief that this is the best that the doctor who theme has ever sounded, it really encapsulates the obsession and craze with sci-fi in the 90's, it just sounds so grand and monumental.
Getting emotional hearing this each time - it is THE best Dr Who theme

Doctor who had been cancelled for only 7 years by that point. That's nothing compared to the 16 years we had to wait for the actual show to come back onto the air

@@Tabulatelk15Nah i'm with you. I bought the Doctor's Revisted 5-8 DVD set just so i could have a copy of it because I couldn't find a region 1 copy of it anywhere due to being in the States. Got some fun Classic Who stories along with it too though so I can't complain!

It was there on the planet skaro the master was finally put on trial they said he listens calmly in the list of crimes he has committed and he made his last and I thought most curious request. he demanded the doctor a rival time Lord shall take his remains back to our homeworld galifray a request they shut have never have granted.

@Nob the Knave except that it makes no sense in terms of anything related to the show.
The people behind this just had no clue about Doctor Who. The Daleks would have just killed The Master without a trial, and they would not have honoured his request except maybe to try and trap The Doctor. In that case he would not have got off Skaro, if he'd even agreed to go in the first place. It's no wonder the TV movie failed. Thank god the Big Finish writers knew how to do it properly and showed us what a great Doctor Paul Mcgann could have been.

This is the perfect music for a Dr Who movie, it's a nice triumphant spin on the music. Paul McGann is a great Doctor. The movie is okay

So, 2 people have said "80s theme" even though there were 3 themes in the 80s, one for the 4th, 5th and 6th Doctors, composed by Peter Howell, one for the 6th Doctor's "Trial of a Timelord" composed by Dominic Glynn, and one for the 7th Doctor, composed by Keff McCulloch (which has probably the best bassline)
Not sure if the movie was show in theatres when it was released or not but imagine being a Who fan In the 90's and the excitement of seeing this intro after years of no new episodes!

Fox-TV showed the Doctor Who TV-Movie only once in May,1996. It was going to be repeated on that network on Dec. 31st of that year,but the network scrubbed the repeat of that movie based on the hit science fiction series from the BBC.

Flawed as the film may be, McGann has one of my favorite performances as the Doctor. I can’t help but smile whenever he’s on screen
When part of a themes compilation, a faster tempo version works better, but when standing alone? This is best!

1:00 - 1:40 The main cast as they appeared in the episode
1:42 - 1:46 The 8th Doctor's character shot (Night of the Doctor version) appears as the piano jingle plays
1:47 - End The TARDIS flies on-screen (like the TV Movie) version, and then the episode starts

The Doctor Who logo in the 1996 TV-Movie was used in most of Jon Pertwee's era from Spearheard From Space (1970) to The Green Death (1973).

I've always loved how overtly American and Patriotic this theme sounds.

Partially made, it was filmed in Canada.
America didnt make this. It was an Anglo American Canadian co production. There were American and British companies involved and it was made in America. Many of the writers if not all were British.
Yeah and Murray Gold's music wasn't like that at all, stop drawing ridiculous conclusions, this particular variant of the Theme was arranged by John Debney and John Sponslor if you mean the ceremonial Brass then you're right it's just the style of John Debney,
