    You're not kidding about the color. I went, and I picked up 3 with a rubber tree.
    They were free on Craigslist, but I had to take the lot.
    I took them home and had to wait for them to bloom. I got them from a lady, so I thought they're probably gonna be pink if not pink red because that's what's available.
    There is nothing wrong with pink and red, but I was hoping for white. Surprise surprise, I didn't hit the odds I hit the jackpot.
    I got white and yellow. I didn't even know yellow was an option, but it's almost better than white. To see them together is Incredible, they set each other off amazingly well.

      Wow you lucked out they would be gorgeous together. I gave my father in law a Christmas Cactus last year cause he was admiring mine so took him a different colour tonight and he had already added another 4 to his collection and was loving them. They are kind of addicting lol!

      Yeah, I've just decided I'm gonna collect all the colors I can. I know. I need pink and red to finish the collection. I also think there's a purple? Do you know of any other colors I don't know about? like orange, maybe. Orange would be really cool. I might even try to learn how and make an orange if it doesn't exist already.
      Thank you for one more reply.
      P.S. Orange was my mom's favorite color.

      @fishyplantman5254 I love orange on the garden and I do have an orange Christmas Cactus and so pretty. FYI Walmart got a pile of Christmas Cactus in I went and got another for my father in law cause he doesn’t have yellow. Did not see any orange or I would have got another one. I have started putting multiples on pots and making big arrangements and boy they look even better mass planted. The orange is also one of my favourites it’s super nice colour. Definitely grab one if you can find it.

      Yes they are so beautiful cause the buds look a deep orange pink then the colour changed to a hint of yellow. They are my favourite. There are also variegated cactus with pink flowers they are kind of different the variegation on the clades kind of a white or light yellow spotting. These will be the next one to find.

    Thank you for sharing the information on the Christmas cactus. I have managed to keep mine alive for one year but it will be much happier now. They remind me of my grandma, she had several, the largest being a slip from her mother's plant. I have never been able to keep them alive until now and would really love to see it in bloom.

    • @creatingmygarden
      @creatingmygarden  8 месяцев назад +1

      Yes I find the big issue when you buy them is they are soak and wet from the stores or green houses. In fact I bought a couple as gifts and they are so wet they are dropping their leaves so I took them out of pots and have a fan on them drying the root system. They were watered from the top arrgh.

    When my cacti are propagated from a single sprig I don’t mind planting several together. But at the size you are planting implant them separately. They just get too crowded growing into each other. I do like two or three orchids in one planter but they are kinda straight up growing plants. I like seeing each plant growing without crowding each other. I like you covering about gnats. Hate those fellows.

    Thank you for this video. My Christmas cactus are in a spare room that doesn't have lights turned on often or for long periods and happily they are setting buds or blooming, I assume they are different varieties because of the different bloom times. I bought them years ago from a department store. I like the fertilizing tips you gave .The yellow cactus is beautiful! I will be looking for one.

    • @creatingmygarden
      @creatingmygarden  8 месяцев назад +1

      That is excellent news Terria. They will be gorgeous. Yes sometimes mine bloom multiple times a year and I love seeing it. The yellow is very cheerful. You should be able to find one since they are just coming into the stores and greenhouses. I had better luck at a greenhouse. There are other types of cactus for sure their leaves or clads are a bit different. I am glad you found the video helpful makes it worthwhile to create them.

    They look more like Thanksgiving Cactus. 😘😊

    • @creatingmygarden
      @creatingmygarden  7 месяцев назад

      Thanksgiving Cactus are called Schlumbergera Trunata and hopefully I am spelling these right. Christmas Cactus have a different name Schlumbergera Bridgesii. To confuse things even more Easter Cactus have a totally different name Rhipsalidopsis Gaertneri. The only way to tell the difference is a side by side comparison of the Christmas and Thanksgiving Cactus. The Easter Cactus leaves are quite different so much easier to distinguish. There are subtle differences between a Thanksgiving and Christmas Cactus in the points of their clades (leaves). In the youtube world or even gardening world amongst breeders and cactus lovers there is huge debate if the Christmas and Thanksgiving Cactus are the same. That being said when I only say Christmas or only say Thanksgiving people get so confused and I get comments saying well they are the same. Well really to prevent confusion I list both names due to the comments I receive because its really hard to tell the difference. I hope this helps. When your a youtuber posting videos its hard to please everyone. Maybe I should do a video on the distinct differences in the leaves. Its been a real debate if I should take that one due to all the comments I would receive with people wanting to argue. Hard to please everyone. Very good question from you. So I wanted to take the time to explain.

      I use the boiling water on all my soil mixes to kill any gnats in the soil before planting. Works really well then my house remains pretty much gnat free unless I bring an existing plant in then I tend to repot them to soil I have already treated.

    • @creatingmygarden
      @creatingmygarden  7 месяцев назад +1

      Hello i would suggest putting your finger as deep as you can into the pot to see if its moist or wet if it is its getting to much water so cut back even further on watering so it completely dries out then water sparingly and feed it till it blooms again with each watering. You could also remove it from the pot to see if it’s too wet. Usually soft leaves is a sign of too much water i have had that happen and that when i start reducing how often i water it. Since they are a succulent they don’t need a lot of water.

    • @user-vf8vn4sn8e

    I add epson salt to my African Violet but I never knew about adding it to the water for my Christmas Cactus….I will do that right now because I have some that don’t bloom for me…I have had trouble with my Christmas and just lost a beautiful Thanksgiving cactus because I was watering it from the top and the center of my magnificent plant just rotted and fell apart…I saved what I could but I was just devastated…my soil is very compacted….what do you recommend for that? Do you have any advice for the Easter Cactus…I have problems with getting them to grow and bloom.

    • @creatingmygarden
      @creatingmygarden  7 месяцев назад

      Hi Chris yes epsom salts and coffee grounds are great for the cactus. If the soil is compacted maybe report the cactus in a larger pot and give it some fresh cactus soil. Watering from the bottom really helps to prevent rot. Also if you aren't using a clay pot and tend to over water put your plants in clay. That will help them to dry out faster but you will have to water from the bottom more. If your Easter Cactus is struggling to bloom for you it need some darkness. A good 12 hours a day minimum darkness and if you have a room that is a bit cooler put it in there. Easiest way to give them darkness is put a box over it then remove it each day until the buds form and start to swell. Hope this helps let me know how it goes.
