Planting Hydrangea Cuttings! 2 months ago roughly 10 -12 weeks ago I took some Hydrangea cuttings and started them in water. It is now time to plant them in the garden so they can put down roots and settle in before winter. I must say this is the easiest method to start hydrangea cuttings but its also the slowest compared to using rooting hormone and seedling soil mix. These were fun to watch g...

What a neat place ! So many pretties to look at.😊
Yes they cram a lot of items into their entrance then they have a clothing section to I always see people browsing the clothes.
That’s a lovely shop, thanks for the tour! 🇨🇦👏🍁
It’s a beautiful place probably one of the few places we have like that.
What a nice variety of things, a tad pricey, but really cool.
Yes for sure I try to buy those one ofs that I can’t be anywhere else but that’s about it. I was waiting for them to drop their perennial prices down to $1 like they did last year lol maybe they won’t do that.
Should it be used coffee grounds or unused coffee grounds?
Used coffee grounds save the coffee for yourself! 😀
Great walk through, gotta love Dutch g=Growers for all the seasons.
Yes they seem to be on trend with some of the decor stuff which is nice to see.
I enjoy checking it out something to inspire us for fall.
Thanks for taking me along on your shopping trip! The owls are so cute. I like those pumpkins and candlesticks too. The candles look so real. I think I would pick up one of those hive ornaments also. You can use it on a coffee table now or on the Christmas tree. This week I bought some hyacinths, giant alliums and daffodils for the driveway garden. They have a good variety of goodies at that store. Bonny
Nice haul. I haven’t decided if I am doing any bulbs or not.
I'm in zone 5b and don't fertilize anything after July. I do put a tent cover on my more sensitive macrophylla hydrangeas like Skyview and the Original. I do deadhead otherwise I don't do anything else. All are hardy to my zone. Bonny
That’s excellent. I quit fertilizing earlier this year just watering and soaking everything in with it being so dry the 2 days rain didn’t do much we didn’t get enough to make a difference.
@@creatingmygarden It's bulb planting time! You're so lucky to have a husband that's a chef.
@@richbishop7896 your so sweet thanks so much! Definitely hard to stick to a diet with him around.
I really appreciate this information, thank you. I have one hydrangea and every year it shrinks in size, it's an Incrediball variety. I am going to follow your advice and hope to see a difference next year.
Excellent yes I have been planting that type as well treating it the same as the rest. We can compare in the spring. Do you get any wildlife for me it mostly jack rabbits but sometimes deer to and the odd moose this year so strange
@@creatingmygarden This year was odd-no deer! We have fenced gardens, the vegetable garden has 4ft picket fence and the flower garden has an electric wire so we can see into it. But a crazy amount of gophers and moles or voles that make tunnels and hills. I think it's pretty cool that you got to see the moose.
@@terriapearce915 moose normally aren’t in our area but a few years ago a few started appearing about once a year but never coming into town that I new of but there was also a bear that got into somebody’s back yard on the north side of town too so they are definitely moving closer maybe from the valley but that is quite a ways away.
Hi Jacqueline! Thank-you for these tips. 🤗 I'm going to cut the blooms off my Annabelles today, here in S. Ontario. I usually leave the blooms on for the winter on my six foot PG hydrangea. Last year, I cut it back to a third of its size, and it returned to almost six feet again this year! I placed some fertilizer pegs around it, and it gave us the biggest blooms ever!! With my pom-pom hydrangeas, I can cut them down to the ground each year and they propagate and return the following year like nothing ever happened. 😅 Have a blessed gardening day!
Excellent I am still removing them off mine in the back garden. It’s a quick easy job thank goodness.
Thank you so much for this video . I live in the Ottawa area and we have snow . My husband used to take care of the pruning and winter preparations , but he passed away last spring ...so I was lost as I never did it myself .
I am so sorry for your loss glad I can k help pretty simple process that shouldn’t take a lot of time. They are pretty easy to look after once you know what they need.
Good advice thanks ever so much. This is my first year with Hydranga♥
Once you start adding hydrangeas the addiction begins they are so easy to look after and reward you with beautiful stately flowers. I will be adding alot more next year. Don’t expect alot the first year while They root in but the second year they take off.
@@creatingmygarden Thank you. I'm also addicted to nine barks. Locve how they are large enough to fill in gaps nicely !
@@LorraineWeston-t9j yes and so many nice ones the foliage is gorgeous.
Hi there, I'm about 2 hours north of Regina zone 3, I've never grown heuchera before, not sure why. Thank you so much for tip about home depot. I found one heuchera frilly! I should have went in 3 weeks ago! Anyway, how do you find the heuchera over winter in Saskatchewan, should i cover it?
Mulch it in good and should be fine and water well as long as you can. I am just on the process of mulching them. This weather today is making it tough to get outside maybe later if the rain stops and the darn wind.Heucheras are so worth it the foliage is gorgeous and seeing more and more varieties. Good to hear from you Pauline!
Don't blame you. They look gorgeous!!
I was all prepared to start decorating them for fall but when I seen them I backed down lol.
You need to water them regularly in the fall, mulch with compost or bark s chips as their roots are shallow and may heave with freeze and thaw cycles. They work for me in zone 3b.
Thanks for the tip I have a few in the front garden that have done well and had them a few years. I hope to pick up some mulch next week.
I vote for covering. They are just too beautiful not to try to extend the season.
I guess the covering is gonna happen sooner than later. It going done to 2c tonight and I am hoping the wind calms so I don’t have to anchor my covers down so much we are having major wind and it’s super cool today. So I will have to dig my sheets out arrgh.😚
The containers and window box are going strong. Hope the frost stays away for several more weeks.
If I have to cover for 2 or three nights that is ok. Would line a few more blooms from the dahlias as well a nice bouquet would be great.
Your roses are truly breath-taking! 😍I rescued some miniature roses for a loonie at Cdn. Tire about a month ago. Instinct told me to just do what you did with your roses, in order to revive them. I live in S. ONtario, and am thinking that I won't plant them outside until Spring. Thank-you for all the tips (coffee grounds and egg shells) on your channel about keeping these mini lovelies alive.
Excellent you got a great deal. It’s great to see people not throwing them out and saving them. They will be beautiful in the spring!
Just subscribed today! Your flowers are really putting on a show for you! 👏👏👏 They can feel your love and joy. 😄
Thanks much and great to chat with you. I love fall but I also love bright colours so I will try to hang on a bit longer. I hope you enjoy the channel!
I wouldn't change them out either. It' must be even harder to do when you grow them yourself. I haven't changed out my front porch container. The King Kong coleus is just gorgeous but I know they won't last much longer with frost. Bonny
Yes coleus is one of the first plants to go with frost super sensitive.
Magenta & red. Spicy!
That is a great way to describe them. I like that. That’s exactly what I was after with my colour choices.
Those containers are beautiful, too pretty to pull. I just moved my petunia pots to the back yard and put mums in the front. We live on a private drive out in the country, so very little traffic to appreciate my efforts. That's okay, I enjoy it very much.
Yes doing it for yourself to enjoy is the best. I love looking out a window and seeing my containers so much fun.
Thank you for sharing ❤❤❤
Thank you I had big plans to remove them and it all changed but soon I will lol.
@@creatingmygarden No rush when they are so beautiful.
I have a Hibiscus here that I have had for years. I trim it pretty soon and then bring it in my house. I decorate it for my Christmas tree 🎄
@frankielopes5040 thank you yes that rain and some heat sure does perk plants up fast.
@@frankielopes5040 that is pretty darn cool what a great idea it would be beautiful!
That's a Wondering Jew. I love these, and I have one here, too.
Yes they did very well and worth repeating. Great summer vine.
Everytime i tried it just turned black. Like most stuff i try and plant.
What did you try let me know.
Very cute, love the lights!🇨🇦👏🍁
Thank you couldn’t find anything that would work and the. Spotted these necklaces.
Cute idea - very creative.
Thanks Mindy.
Hi Jacqueline, I'm inspired! Great idea to use the necklace lights. I was just looking at my box of fall miniatures and scratching my head about what to do with them. Thanks for this video.
You’re welcome they really are a lot of fun.
😍😍😍😍😍😍
Thanks so much.
The fairy garden turned out really, really nice. You are so creative Jacqueline. I have never made one and found it very easy to follow. Great video.
Thanks Sydney been eating to make one for a while I do enjoy them and being creative. Something different.
Jacqueline you've made quite a cute fall fairy garden there. Adding the lights gave it that special touch. Bonny
The necklaces work well not too big.
good gardening
Thanks so much!
are they ripe if there’s a little green on the underside or will they turn purple entirely?
If it’s just a little they should ripen up since they have already started. They ripen pretty fast. You want at least 80% purple or as much as possible. If you do pick them out them in a warm sunny spot so they can finish ripening.
very nice video
Thx so much!
Hope you feel better soon. Diagnosed at 18 with knee issues and have avoided surgery for over 40 years. Creeping up and dreading the thought 😢
Yes I did a lot of sports and took a few injuries to my knees almost other things they now have arthritis amongst other areas. A torn meniscus pushed my knee from snapping to pain that was the final injury that really messed me up.
The best of luck with your knee issues. I have a friend who just had her second one done and she said following the daily exercise routine recommended by the doctor is a must before physio starts, is a must! 🇨🇦👏🍁
Yes I heard that’s the key I took the physio already to help prepare but will need it after again for sure.
I adore dahlia, my fave plant. This is my 3rd year growing them & i always remove all the bottom leaves, pinch them out throughout Summer & come fall i remove them to a pot with some growing soil & leave them inside the house to overwinter in a cold room without any heating. (I'm in Quebec, zone 4a) Glad youyr back in the garden again♥
Thank you so much I am hoping to dig them up and divide them then wrap in Saran since I don’t have a cold room to try and prevent them from drying out. They are so beautiful. Usually I keep the ones that do well if any under perform or the blooms are small then I discard those. I planted cafe au lait not that impressed with the colour but I will try it again I love Labyrinth it is so beautiful I hope to be able to divide it and get more tubers for next year out of it.
Hi Jacqueline, Labrynth dahlia is on my wish list now, very pretty. If you opt for surgery this winter you may be healed well by spring so that you can continue gardening and doing the things you love. Please keep us posted on your decision. Take care.
Thanks he said he would put me on urgent list. So I could get done sooner since I already waited on the list before for almost 3 years. I should have just got it done but they wanted me to be older cause a knee only lasts 15 years but now it’s getting to the point I cannot wait another 3 years till I am older.
Glad you line labyrinth it way more beautiful then cafe au lait. My Cafe Au Lait is more white yellow not a fan. I will keep the tubers and try it again next year to see and if I don’t like it after one more season I will give the tubers away.
@@creatingmygarden I have a friend in the same predicament with both knees. They say she's too young as well. It's good to know you have a good Doctor.
@@terriapearce915 Yes now to get up the courage and get it over with.
Glad your feeling better and out in the garden enjoying your plants. I like the red Dahlia with the white tips. Reds not usually my color choice but the shape of that one really makes it it for me. Talk to some people that have had success with their knee replacement. Soak in the good vibe of success and learn what they did before, during and after surgery.
Thanks Sydney yes I need that positive vibe. I do have one of the best surgeons here thank goodness. He said you need to get that knee done and get it over with.
@@creatingmygarden Cheering for you!
I'm trying to avoid having knee surgery too. Hope you're feeling better Jacqueline. We finally got some rain here with temps in the 20's. Are you saving your tubers. Do you wait for a frost to dig up your dahlias? Bonny
Hi. Bonnie yes I am going to save the ones I like there are a few this year that I am happy with and a few that I won’t keep. We are suppose to get frost this week so if that happens I will remove them after and let them dry i have a warm basement so I will have to wrap them to keep the moisture in so I will do a video on what I am doing with them and test this method out to see if it works. Glad you got some rain we could use more but farmers are trying to get their crops Off and it’s to wet they keep testing their crops to see if their dry enough to combine so a dry week would be good for them.
@@creatingmygarden I'm going to try using the saran wrap method this year. Last year I tried the peatmoss. I only have a couple and want to get more next spring. They did great for me and are still blooming in my driveway garden. Everything else is done blooming. Bonny
That would be beautiful what colours do you have and what types?
@@creatingmygarden Right now I have an orange (Sylvia) and a pink lavender shade. I will be digging mine in a couple of weeks. We are still warm here. I did dig up my glads yesterday.
@@richbishop7896 we are very warm again 33c tomorrow then we head into cooler temperatures and 3 nights of frost.
I hope your knee gets better 🙏
Thanks so much always something.
Glad you are feeling better. I know several people who have had knee surgery and very few have full range of motion afterwards.
That’s my fear. Watched my neighbour go through it and his knee wasn’t as bad as mine and now he says it’s not right and has a limp. I have waited three three years and keep Putting it off but it’s getting really noisy now and it’s bothering my tendons bad my hamstring popped this morning when sleeping that hurt so probably try to get in after Christmas and go back on waiting list arrgh a little afraid.
@@creatingmygarden Of all the people I know, the one who had the most success did all the exercises and followed the doctor's advice to the letter. Finding a doctor with a high recommendation might be a good idea. The goal is to end up better than before. 🤞
@@MindysPlace thanks Mindy I do have he best surgeon here so i lucked out that way I am going to start practicing lifting myself with one leg stretched straight out cause I guess that is an issue with the sutures in.
I've been planting my houseplants too high in their pots for decades! I'm so glad I watched this. Thank you for an excellent instructional video!
Glad I was able to help.
Came to your channel through your Yarrow video. When you said orange & purple are your vibe....you had me!
Thanks for watching yes I love those two colours in the garden been trying to add more orange and the yarrows have improved so much and so many colours now. I cannot seem to get enough orange flowers both annual and perennials they go well with everything.
Hi !Good video to show how to cut them back when they look sad. I have one in a pot on the deck..Sask gardener also. It has done really well all summer. What should I do to bring it in for the winter ? Do you have a video on that already ? Thx
I plant mine in the garden and protect them if you’re interested in trying that I have a video I find they do better outside.
Glad you are getting some rain. Send some my way, it would be greatly appreciated.
Love to everyone seems to be in same situation everything is soaked here it’s now clearing. Sorry I didn’t put out. Video I should be good to put one out on weekend had to get a treatment to my knee it’s been acting up. Just resting it now then I should be back in action.
@@creatingmygarden Busy week here too. Hubby to ENT specialist today and surgery for his eye tomorrow. Ramsay Hunt Syndrome is far worse than the Lyme Disease. Rest up, videos can wait.
@@MindysPlace thanks much hope everything goes well.
We still haven't had any rain here. Bonny
Still raining off and on here
Wow! The thunder and rain is so calming. I’m sure your soil needed that good dose of moisture. Toronto’s expected to get some by Monday!
Today is just rain comes and goes and very cool
do they bloom the first year
Yes they do they are impressive performers just keep the soil moist to promote strong stems. They prefer full sun. Easy to germinate from seed direct sow.
Hope you get a nice steady rain all day. How are your night temps? A little cooler and all the plants will benefit even more.
Season is starting to change nights are dropping down to 4c days are gonna be 15c after Friday.
So lovely ❤. Wish i could could get the deals you get for plants lol. Hello again from 5b ontario.
Thanks yes not sure why we get so many deals maybe they order too many plants. At first I thought we weren’t going to get many this year but it changed fast.
