How did you connect the lav mic on to the mini xlr of the bmpcc4k? Did you use a adapter from xlr to mini xlr?
Oligar da Paz yes link is in description
@@JustinPhillip Yes but the sennheisser has jack 3.5mm input to male xlr.
And the xlr to mini in your description is a male xlr to female mini xlr. And the input on bmpcc 4k is femel xlr. So i Think the cable is incorrect right?
@@OligardaPaz This is the female Large XLR to mini Male XLR that plugs into the blackmagic : amzn.to/2N2XBmT
if you want the adapter for the Sennheiser, that is 3.5mm male to XLR Male: which is this: amzn.to/2MEa5Ck
it comes standard with Sennheisers, usually, use to anyways
@@JustinPhillip Thnx!! And for the fast response. I hope one day they Will make a mini xlr to jack 3.5mm like the one you get with the senheisser set. less cables:P
"What are you like a vlogger now?"...gold...we appreciate the things you do for the rest of us low budget film makers...🙏🙏🙌🏻🙌🏻
Visual Candy Hey man, i’m learning from this channel as well!! HAHA Thank you!! 🙌🏼🙌🏼
After hearing that phone call, I decided to sub. Why the manager guy thinks he needs to control your content is baffling. You're doing a great job giving back to the community. Nothing wrong with that.
thanks! appreciated!
So this phone call was real?! I really was hoping it is a joke
man that ending skit is my life right now! 🤦🏾♂Gatekeeping
Justin, thanks for Youtubing. I am so grateful for everything I learn from people like you.
Oh s... man, don't stop....
Here I am trying to get into it all, and you're really helping me out with everything.
Oh, btw: If I ever get to San Pedro (and I will someday) you have to let me give you a personal tour of my old home, the USS Iowa!
Oops, I missed the part about that Phone Call at 12:03ish. My bad
The XLR pre-amps in the camera kick ass, having just come from the H4N. Glad someone is detailing just how useful this camera's audio interface is.
Carty better than the H4N Pro?
Thanks for the tests. Does BMPCC mini XLR jack provide phantom power to the shotgun mic?
There’s a lot of background noise when you plug the lav with the 3.5mm cable… that’s very shitty, how about with a mini xlr cable ? Better results ? Less noise ?
Thanks
Does your mic require phantom power. I’ve only had to crank the gain like that when I forgot for a second to turn on phantom power. Connecting the boom to the xlr would have allowed for this.
Your manager needs a refresher course in the fact that HE works for YOU. Not the other way around. He brought all his insecuirty about losing you as a client into the call. Completely unprofessional. Should've set him straight, politely and professionally of course.
See Curtis Judds video on the audio features of the BMPCC4K RE the 3.5mm jack.
bikemadkiwi yupp! just remembered that!
I suggest checking if the 3.5mm outputs power to external mics- some mikes need power ( maybe 5v) from the camera to power. Most DSLRS output power, I don’t think the BMPCC4K does.
bikemadkiwi interesting. will check this out, and report back
Justin Phillip kills it again!
Thanks bro for always sharing your knowledge with us bro.
#RealOne 👌
Nice video dude. I will travel abroad with this cam. I will interview a couple and want to avoid a boom mic with an operator. I'm looking to lave the couple any suggestions how to achieve this from the pocket 4K direct? Thanks mate.
Scope25 yeah i would do one lav into mini XLR and the other one into the 3.5mm. you should be fine, you just have to boost the levels in post. I experienced no noise issues other than just low gain.
I gotta tell you though - The DEITY Duo Lavalier setup is far superior to the Sennheiser G-4's. And for the price of one G-4 transmitter and receiver, you can get the DEITY system with two lav transmitters and the Duo receiver. The DEITY's are digital, encrytped, and channel hopping over a WiFi connection which makes them pretty much impervious to interference.
Hi, which converter did you use to convert XLR cable male to Mini Xlr Male?
I get TONS of interference when using an adapter? Handling noice, when the XLR moves around on the camera, I get noise. Anybody else? Any workarounds?
MAN this was super helpful. Im currently waiting on my order for the Kondor Blue BMPCC 4k/6k 3.5mm to mini xlr cuz i had a terrible time using my wireless lav pack in the 3.5mm jack so i bought the 3.5mm to mini xlr hoping i have the same success you did. Blackmagics preamps in the 3.5 jack is a joke. Ofcourse the Comica BoomXD comes with cables specifically for every camera brand BUT blackmagic lol so im praying this option works.
Gregory Grist Actually i found the Canon cable for the BoomXD to work pretty good directly into the camera. I did a video on that mic set about a month ago
@@JustinPhillip Really!?!? I had a terrible time. Gonna check that video out you did. I know you have a better mic pack with your sennheiser but the noise and how low the signal was made it completely unusable for me.
Gregory Grist ruclips.net/video/tgnGwbtXHoY/видео.html
Do you have any problems with sennheiser + audio levels.. is there any max peak or -12dB limit? or is it full manual in pocket cinema?
i tend to keep the levels right around 70-75, works good. all the mic levels are low on this camera already, so no worries about peaking lol
Do you think the audio recorded through the BMPCC 4K would be better than using a Zoom H4N Pro? Im using the Rode NTG 2 & NT3. Also, where did you get your Kondor Blue mini xlr cable?
Morgan Routt idk, i think external audio is always the way to go. Check out the link in the description to my camera kit gear bag, there’s a link in there
601 sub's...399 to go...when you get to 1000...you gotta bust out that killer rig again...love it !!
Visual Candy HAHA oh yea, im busting it out tomorrow & monday!! trying to get someone to capture BTS!!
Pretty good, definitely much better than Canon's pre amps, solid in general. That's one of the things I like on my GH5 over my old Canon, way better preamps. So another plus for Black Magic!
My first mics / got those mics and never looked back / shout out to B&H sales person.
I came here for the comparsion, yet a biggest truth found in here. I myself have used Sennheiser Ew100 G2 in the past on collab productions, and even they are old af, they boosted my Deity D3 so much that the audio was uncomperable when I sinply plug it into my camera. So ever since I wanted to buy a wireless system. I also thought hard on Boya and Saramonic wirelesses, but in the reviews they have always had some issue. So now Im ready to buy a Sennheiser G2, I just have to find one because of their rarity.
At first I was let down by the super quiet onboard mic audio in my bmpcc4k. However, if you just turn up the audio in Davinci to a suitable level, it sounds fine. Not sure why it's so low, but really just increase the track volume and it's totally usable.
As for the Sennhesier Pack going into my 3.5mm jack: damn it. Why was it so scratchy? The audio glitched out so much. Has anyone had this happen? It was so embarassing to show the client. I am permanently spooked from using wireless lavs now. I'll be using a boom/shotgun for my shoot this weekend and maybe have the lav pack for backup. I'm traumatized haha.
What is the difference between XRL -Mic and XRL +48V Mic?
Professional contributing to the public.
3.5 mm and XLR transmits the same analog signal, the only difference is that one is balanced and other no. Both need to be converted in a digital. The MICROPHONE makes the difference, not the CONNECTOR. If you use the same condenser mic on XLR input withi internal phantom or with external phantom and 3.5 jack, the result is the same.
💪🏽 good vid
i just got a rode NTG3 shotgun mic and tried running XLR-to-XLR Mini direct into BMPCC4K and got NO signal or audio whatsoever. Also true XLR-to-3.5mm on camera direct - i switched to each setting for audio settings - i'd get a peak blip when id hit the arrow to switch to an xlr setting (mono/line/mic) but immediately it would go down to nothing and stay there. Really bummed - hope i just need preamp or external interface and not that my mic is jacked. I just got it delivered too
you need to turn on phantom power in the camera, i think it has that option
PHANTOM?
sharing is caring
Which saramonics are you referring to? I use the uwMic9
Michael Kropfberger cant remember which model, specifically, but def was not a fan
Thank you for the info. I have a Tascam DR701D and was debating if I should use that with my BMPCC 4K, thinking "Wow, just more stuff to hook up for a shoot" but you have resolved my dilemma here! BTW - who is "Rob"? Are you indentured to him or did he buy you through a white slaver market, LOL? His sense of ownership is hysterical.
Larry Gilmore Oh thats just a bit LOL
Did I miss something? The black magic preamps on the 3.5 sounded terrible but you jumped in on the edit and said they were good. 🤔
BLC yeah, the mini XLR port definitely has way better pre-amps.
@@JustinPhillip the 3.5mm was awful. XLR is the only way to go with this camera it seems
Hi, how do you display audio input level on the lcd screen on the bottom right?
check your settings in the audio menu
The link for the XLR to mini is the wrong cable, almost got me!
Morbid Curiosity Media it is???
Morbid Curiosity Media oh i think all the Blue Condor cables are sold out! sorry bout that
No harm no foul, just threw me for a loop for a minute, had to check my camera thinking it had a male connector lol
If anyone’s here because their mic levels are super low, it’s most likely because you’re on XLR or 3.5mm LINE. You need to be on MIC.
great vid
I think youre giving false information on the 3.5mm. listening on headphones there's a nasty buzz and it's way too quiet. I don't think anyone should use 3.5mm for anything professional with this camera. (Source: I own one too)
I have that same shirt
Sorry I'm late to the game (this video gave me the exact answers to questions I had FYI) ... but just gotta say man, that guy talks to you very disrespectfully ... like you're a child, putting you down, shaming you ... so yeah, I don't see that lasting! Good luck bro!
J a m e S ahh that’s just a bit brother! 🤣🤣
@@JustinPhillip as in, that was staged???? Oh man, totally got me. I wanted to Quantum Leap into your body and give that guy a good talkin' to haha
na.. it's not good.. I have a rode video mic pro with 3.5mm and it sucks! It sounded much better on my 5 d mark ii...I was surprised when I heard the sound on the bmpcc4k.. and it's not just me.. it's alot of people.. I will have to switch over to the xlr and see what happens.
Samsung t5 1T?
DUDE WTF? Was that call at the end real or staged? He's your manager not your fucking probation officer! You shouldn't be cowering to him like that! If that was real, and he's your manager, he's a dumbass! What you're doing here is actually boosting your cred and will help you get more work which makes his dumbass more money!
Anywho, good job on the channel. I like your personality and delivery. You seem very sincere and approachable. Wish you the best in all that you do, my brother!
Am I the only one who has the problem where the minijack wont fit all the way in. It will only go 70% of the way in.
Nikolaj Christensen Yeah i havent heard of or experienced that
Buzzing is signal interference in the line.
The boom mic is too far..and if it bad quality the worse.
That guy on the phone has got to be Jewish with that accent.
Jay Freeman 🤣🤣
