I could not work out this IMU calibration out for the life of me. If only I searched your videos 3 hours earlier would have saved me a lot of charging time :P Keep up the good work
Sat for 45mins wondering why the process was stuck on ‘2’. Had no idea you had to put the drone in the positions shown in the pictures. DJI really needed to explain that a bit better as its totally changed from the process with the Phantom. Kicking myself now!
Not 45 minutes here, but I was so patient. I waited a minute or two, that green LED fast-flashing. DJI absolutely has a two minute video that shows you how to do this, but this video here has a lot more detail/information. Thank you! Personally, I think the on-screen directions should flash a red warning "Okay, dummie, move the drone!" Or something. The on-screen does nothing but move a green dot to blue, and if you aren't watching the picture, it's easy to realize you need to re-orient the drone. Of course, now that I know you have to do this, it's easier. But I felt dumb waiting.
Emil Caruso you are correct. It's best to calibrate the IMU on the quad right after you turn it on, when it's still cold. The procedure to calibrate the IMU on this quad is no different than the procedure for the Mavic Pro and any of the Phantom 4s. One other time I always calibrate the IMU is after a firmware update, probably not necessary though.
Good information, especially for new drone owners. And I suspect the Mavic Air will be many people's first drone. I said the Spark was the drone for the mainstream market, and maybe even more so for the Mavic Air.
The IMU is a piece of magic.. But indeed can also be a nuisance. In fact the veering to the left (in my case) has been a nuisance in particular for my golf-course flyover footage (for my Golf & Tesla YT channel). I calibrate regularly but it still has not completely fixed the problem - but greatly reduced it. Thanks for your clear instruction.. -- good image quality, by the way.
Hi, clear video instruction.. but I got a problem with it, And I would like your experience. I''m flying a Mavic Air (2018) When I take off from a moving platform (like a hand or in my case also a boat) the IMU sensor is not initialised correctly. This results in a very unstable drone flight. With hard to control position and decend and ascend. Looking in the log files the IMU altitude reports a large swinging altitude value, while VPS altitude is correct. Take off from the ground goes perfect. Can you clarify if the IMU is initialised before take off? Thanks already...
Hi Billy - My MA continually asks me to calibrate the compass on every flight, regardless of where I am. I have gone through the usual process of removing all metallic objects, smart watches...everything!!...I have moved position and tried in different spots too. I have even had this happen to me when i tried to fly in desert areas where there is NO interference whether on my person or my surroundings. Would it be recommended to try and reset/calibrate the IMU in this instance, as I'm getting pretty tired of having to calibrate the compass even time i want to fly?
Thanks folr your videos. Always very informative. One question. I see that the cable for the tablet/cellphone on the mavic air remote control is already pre connected on One of the sides of the remote. I tried connecting my iPad mini 4 but the remote control cable is on an opposite side as the iPad. How do I connect the iPad mini 4 to the remote control?
Hey Mr Billy.. after watch video I feel like take my Air out.. but seem I had some problem, if you can diagnose it.. thank you.. first all my update said new version, but it's said low profile sd card..! And I fly and record few time.. then I try to transfer to my phone, its say no photo to transfer..🤷🏻♂️.. but it's work perfect last year.. and 1 more thing when I roll my camera downward and the drone turn around lowly .. never had that problem... Billy it's some thing I can fix... please help
thank you for that tutorial, i bought a Mavic air a few day's ago...i hav'nt attempted to fly it yet as it's been a good while since i last used a Drone which i destroyed due to my impatience and lack of true understanding of the differnce between a Drone and a Quadcopter. I have a couple of GPS Quad copter's and i do recognise the difference between them now...one is an advanced machine which is piloted by Line Of Sight only...while the other is a flying computer with a central processor and an array of sensor's and can be programmed to follow a set of command's/way point's. thank's again
Bill my Air has a data error on acc1 someone said you know how to fix it. Dji said send it back for a refund. I tried calibration with no luck and the drone shakes now on take off.
cant speak for the Air, but it is said that a "cold" IMU calibration is better than room temperature. I found it to be true for the phantoms. research the DJI forums for details.
I did not do IMU setting in my first flight, do you think this the reason i lost controlling? it hit a nearby wall and i failed many times for flying again
Quick question... heard that the camera is the same as the Mavic Pro. Is it actually the same? As in, do the nd filters work on both or do you need ones?
Hi Billy !! I have recently got the Mavic air. Initially for 4- days it was ok but later on I started facing the problem of connecting DJI GO 4 app with the air craft. DJI online support asked me to update the firmware with DJI Assistant 2 and sync flight data after every flight. And then everything was fine till last month when I started getting another error " Main Controller Data Error". Now I am again unable to connect with the aircraft again with remote. RC is showing connected on the GO4 app but unable to connect with aircraft where as with wifi I am able to connect with phone. Pl help.
If my compass is off my remote tells me and asks me to calibrate it same thing with my IMU right? Why would I calibrate if it’s not asking me to and I don’t necessarily notice anything wrong with the way it flies? Asking as a new hobbiyist.
My mavic air have the same problem. Already calibrate IMU still same problem. I just bought Litchi apps..and use it to fly. Amazing the problem is gone. So i think its DJI go 4 apps causing the problem..wake up DJI!!!!!! make your apps better

I did exactly the same, stuck on 2/6 till the battery was flat :-).
Same lmao this shit took me like an hour and multiple tries haha

Mavic air for 2 years and I’m now just finding this out, this is going to save me😂
thank you sir, your tutorial helping us 🙏
Polished and very much to the point with everything covered. Very nice.
You help me so much bro 👑👑

Good video Billy. Thank you for mentioning when to do it. I know a lot of people who do it before each flight and I agree that's overkill.
Thanks Billy very helpful. Hoping to get airborne this weekend.
thanks brother,, it was stuck at 2,, now i no why,, lol,, great video
Looking more and more tempting to buy each time I watch a video on that little baby boy.
Thanks Billy, does this need to be completed way from magnetic interference or can it be done at home?
Nicely explained my friend keep up the good work just subscribed to your channel thank you
Thanks a lot, it wasn't clear as to what to do, but your vid made it simple.
Do you know how to start calibration without remote or phone? Such as when you are using gesture mode.
thank you sir very good job i like you so much

Thank you! I didn’t realise you had to stand it on its side, I thought the view it shows was a birds-eye view
Thanks. Waiting for the Setup/settings overview. 👍
Very helpful!

yuk,yuk...i nearly lost it a couple of day's later. ;p
yuk,yuk....APB,
I nearly lost it a couple of day's later...that was one very squeaky ass minuet and a half ;p
So no need to connect Mavic air and controller with cable ?
Bill my Air has a data error on acc1 someone said you know how to fix it. Dji said send it back for a refund. I tried calibration with no luck and the drone shakes now on take off.
THANK YOU.
You're welcome!
Right to the point 🤙🏾🤙🏾🤙🏾🤙🏾
Does it matter which side, left side or right side, you start?
Nice, simple and easy.

thanks bill.. just one question if i do it on metal surface is it okay or like GPS it effects the calibration..?( i have a pro i think its the same)
very nice

Clear, quick and to the point. Great helpful video. Thanks!

it looks like the spark filters mite fit
Hi. I get IMU calibration failed for 2nd IMU. Shows Calibration error code -71. Any help please?
The imu calibration did not helped for me... Whats next?
How about compass calibration?
Who is waching in 2020😜 and who just bought a Mavic Air?
How do you know which is left & which is right I'm thinking of getting a mavic air
Rob follow the guide on the screen. It will show you the correct orientation.

Himanshu Saini are the controller and drone on the current firmware? Have you updated just the drone or just the controller?
Hey did u have a problem with the air shaking like a wet dog? I see a few people with this problem....if so how did u fix it?
Nice girl

Yes, it will tell you when you need to calibrate
At home or outdoor does it make difference?
Arman Ergül just find a level flat surface you could be outside or inside.
Sweet
im getting IMU error and Remote controller data error
tried to calibrate IMU but it doesnt work.
Me too
Me too, do we have a solution for this error?
My mavic air have the same problem. Already calibrate IMU still same problem. I just bought Litchi apps..and use it to fly. Amazing the problem is gone. So i think its DJI go 4 apps causing the problem..wake up DJI!!!!!! make your apps better
"Electronical?" Just giving you a hard time... ;)
can I need to be away from metal?
Dude serious question where you stoned in this video? I saw how dry your mouth was + those eyes hahahahaha that’s 100% eye dropped eyes lol
@2:22 I think to got the wrong position there.
