Thunderbolt 2 isn’t it? I just picked up the same issue ne for the same price and got 64gb ram for $35 and a 12 core Xeon for $20 It’s definitely a machine that still can be used in 2024.
I just upgraded from a 2012 Mac Mini to one of these coz it was $200. Like it a lot... will use it for a few years or until it dies. I actually got it to put next to my cube but ended up using it as my mainstay.
The biggest reason for the death of this Mac, is that dual GPU use didn't take off as it was expected, and sadly, Apple also didn't continue to develop it at all, probably for that exact reason of dual GPU's usage death.
My trash can is running emulators.. I got a great deal for it.. 64 gb of ram, dual d500’s, 6 core Xeon.. my only concern is the d500’s, they get really hot during gaming.. when the trash can launched, the d500 and d700 would literally burn themselves out ..
Up to which generation of console are you comfortably emulating with the trashcan, i was thinking of getting one and running Batocera on it for the lounge - want to go up to xbox/ps2 maybe a few Wii games too. Is it capable?
Hi guys , My boyfriend has quiet a bit of electronics due to his fathers passing and this item is one of them. We are trying to get rid of some but it’s stuck on the passcode screen which we don’t know, would anyone know how to bypass or on how to factory reset it ? Thanks !
I've repurposed mine as an office machine, since 6 months ago. Works perfect for that purpose, driving one 1440p monitor.
Have the 8-core D700 64GB running Logic Pro X on latest Sonoma with OpenCore. Flawless. LoVe It
Music production good???
On this Mac?

It is not a power system in today’s market. In the used desktop market, it is great value. I have a top end build and it was less than $300 in 2024.

I sold my 2013 iMac this year on which I had installed an SSD and it still worked perfectly. So the Mac Pro should be good.
Running Adobe C5 in High Sierra...works great with 27" thunderbolt monitor. All for $300.
Keep up the good work 💪
Thanks for the support!
thank you for this informative information.
I have one of these. Have a good day, sir!
Thanks, you too!
I would buy it for nostalgia reasons. I still run 2x 5.1 once in a while . Such nice machines, but they are too thirsty to run 24/7

Yep, one of the biggest flaws unfortunately.

how does Cemu or PCSX2 work? Any slowdowns?
Loved my Powermac G5 DC 2.3. I used it to start my web development business.
i have it since 2021 with the d700 and 128 gb ram and 12 cores, but i feel it began to be noticeably slow :(
Wonder where the bottleneck is--DDR3 RAM or the CPU? They are starting to show their age.
@@stevens1041 I personally believe Apple intentionally force software updates that kills the devices gradually
got to drop it down to 64gb ram, thats your issue!
Very nice video. 1:17 what monitor are you using?
Alienware 34 Curved QD-OLED Gaming Monitor - AW3423DWF
I upgraded my 6-core with d500 GPU to a 3ghz 10-core CPU.
Keep on grinding
Great! What is the weight of the macpro?

If u run it as a media are basic office desktop it would work
Yes, for sure!
My 2013 Mac Pro has Thunderbolt 2 ports....how does yours have Thunderbolt 3?
I realized I made a mistake after I uploaded the video
I was really disappointed when the Trash Can MP was released. The MacPro 5,1 was may more expandable.
I trust you can get more subscribers
Can’t see any of the test scores what’s with the camera angle
Great job but I have one
Great umbrella rack😅
lol
at least the ram was upgradable. The new M2 ultra Pro is not even near this expandable.
