I've repurposed mine as an office machine, since 6 months ago. Works perfect for that purpose, driving one 1440p monitor.

    Thunderbolt 2 isn’t it?
I just picked up the same issue ne for the same price and got 64gb ram for $35 and a 12 core Xeon for $20
It’s definitely a machine that still can be used in 2024.

I just upgraded from a 2012 Mac Mini to one of these coz it was $200. Like it a lot... will use it for a few years or until it dies.
I actually got it to put next to my cube but ended up using it as my mainstay.

It is not a power system in today’s market. In the used desktop market, it is great value. I have a top end build and it was less than $300 in 2024.

The biggest reason for the death of this Mac, is that dual GPU use didn't take off as it was expected, and sadly, Apple also didn't continue to develop it at all, probably for that exact reason of dual GPU's usage death.

I sold my 2013 iMac this year on which I had installed an SSD and it still worked perfectly. So the Mac Pro should be good.

I would buy it for nostalgia reasons. I still run 2x 5.1 once in a while . Such nice machines, but they are too thirsty to run 24/7

My trash can is running emulators.. I got a great deal for it.. 64 gb of ram, dual d500’s, 6 core Xeon.. my only concern is the d500’s, they get really hot during gaming.. when the trash can launched, the d500 and d700 would literally burn themselves out ..

Up to which generation of console are you comfortably emulating with the trashcan, i was thinking of getting one and running Batocera on it for the lounge - want to go up to xbox/ps2 maybe a few Wii games too.
      Is it capable?

Wonder where the bottleneck is--DDR3 RAM or the CPU? They are starting to show their age.

@@stevens1041 I personally believe Apple intentionally force software updates that kills the devices gradually

    Hi guys ,
My boyfriend has quiet a bit of electronics due to his fathers passing and this item is one of them. We are trying to get rid of some but it’s stuck on the passcode screen which we don’t know, would anyone know how to bypass or on how to factory reset it ?
    Thanks !

at least the ram was upgradable. The new M2 ultra Pro is not even near this expandable.
