    First of, that statement about Nas being hip hop's greatest MC is true. Just look at him today. He outlived and outlasted all of his peers sonically. Second, Main Source were a victim of bootlegging. Bootlegging was very widespread back then. I remember buying the album for 5 dollars at the corner store. Now some of those bootlegs weren't always good quality but those were the days of scourging for music back then. that's how you were going to hear those albums. Lastly, Large Professor was right to leave. look what he did afterwards. he helped create possibly the greatest hip hop album of all time in Illmatic. that alone warrants his departure. Once he left, that was it for Main Source. He was the foundation of them hands down. those beats...you guys already know of that man's prowess on the boards

If I really liked it, I would buy the official from the store. Sometime the bootleg would have a song cutoff or poorly recorded so you needed to buy the official anyway.

    Well..."Large Pro" told us on a "Tribe Called Quest" song "Keep It Rollin'" off their "Midnight Marauder" album....the line went " He From The Projects Or PJs. ..F Them Two DJs.... Self Mission I Had To End The Ill Position.....So Now Check The Method". He decided to go solo although "Main Source " was truly a dope group & the first to incorporate 2 DJs when most had one in a group...."Large Pro" felt like the group wasn't selling records, their album sales lacked, especially when there associates like. "Nas", "Akinyele" & "Neek The Exotic" was achieving success on there own.....it was time to go alone. Now as far the bootlegging thing .....yeah it was crazy in the 80's & 90's. I don't.know about any where else but here on the East Seaboard, saw the bootleger got his outdoor table.set.up with popular music....usually Rap, Reggae, & R&B back then displayed...every once in a while a "Sucker" would buy a tape....about $10 back then....take it home to listen to his or her music...but.after.3 good listens, the tape would seriously slow drag & we ain't talking about "Chopped & Screwed". We talking fake tapes. Yeah it was crazy back then....;
