First of, that statement about Nas being hip hop's greatest MC is true. Just look at him today. He outlived and outlasted all of his peers sonically. Second, Main Source were a victim of bootlegging. Bootlegging was very widespread back then. I remember buying the album for 5 dollars at the corner store. Now some of those bootlegs weren't always good quality but those were the days of scourging for music back then. that's how you were going to hear those albums. I'll be honest. If I wanted a sneak preview of an album, I would buy the bootleg cassette tape for 4 or 5 dollars (Jamaica Avenue, Queens) first. If I really liked it, I would buy the official from the store. Sometime the bootleg would have a song cutoff or poorly recorded so you needed to buy the official anyway.

I just saw Large Pro doing a DJ set here in Chicago at the Hyde Park Supper Club two week, it was pretty dope. I do know one that, he is pretty short lol

crazy is an understatement. that ish was like a virus in the hood. 95 percent of people's rap collections were bootlegs back then. getting an actual cassette of an album, people looked at you with awe. like most had never seen a real one. damn, those times were so different. you can't really explain this stuff to these young cats. they won't really get it due to them easily having access to music in the palm of their hands.
