The thing with the 'increased gravitational pull' that's really stupid is that if the moon was getting that close, we'd be experiencing just, all the geologic disasters. Superquakes, skyscraper sized tsunamis, crazy weather. How the hell were the oceans being pulled to the moon? Somewhat less gravity isn't the same as the moon somehow having greater gravity. There is no reason why anything to be leaving terra firma to visit the moon when it's supposed to have 1/6th the mass of Earth. There shouldn't be a survivable surface left once the moon started getting very close. I mean, the movie even featured a 'rips the atmosphere away' bit. Where did it go? Somehow our atmosphere was just fine after the orbit got reset? Sure, some of the air would have been pulled around the planet to follow the moon as it orbits, but I think the implication was a lot of it was being pulled away to the moon itself...What I'm saying is, is that forget the human race surviving. Virtually all complex life (and a lot of the single celled life forms as well) should have been wiped out by this disaster.
The movie is just not good. The pandemic no doubt played a hand in how much of a mess it turned out to be, but it plays fast and loose with logic and physics to a degree that makes the average over the top Hollywood action flick roll its eyes in disbelief.

I'm amazed there was no sin for everyone going home once the one rocket engine failed around 9:00. Launching that rocket was the only chance they had to get up there and stop the moon from falling. The rocket failing effectively doomed humanity. Yet, there was no effort put in to fix it? Nobody was even going to try to find an alternative? It was just, "Well, there goes our one chance, I guess we're screwed now" from everyone? Immediately? To me, that seemed like the most egregious flaw in the whole movie, and in a movie with this many flaws, that's saying something.

Somehow, even under the standards of the easy to please audience that this film is trying to go for (while the director laments this as if he was putting out high art losing to commerce when he just wants to be the top of the commerce heap.) it STILL managed to become a box office bomb. There's also a novel about the moon being a capital ship called Dahak, built by a galactic empire thousands of years ago, and then a mutiny happened. IIRC, the trilogy is called "Mutineers' Moon." Even a megastructure around a white dwarf isn't completely unrealistic, but the idea that a white dwarf could be as light as the moon is. They're off by a factor of 30 million or so on that one, and they could have looked it up on wikipedia.
BTW, white dwarf matter is quite elastic. If you could halve a white dwarf, you'd get two pieces, and either would be bigger than the original star. You could continue that and it would work down to a few times the mass of Jupiter. Since the small white dwarves are so heavy, you could cut one into ~1200 planets as massive as Jupiter each. (BTW, the hardest part wouldn't be the cutting, but moving the halves away from each other.)

The script probably started awesome, and the executives - bored out of their mind because this was filmed during the worst of the pandemic - couldn't keep their hands off and kept inserting shit "because that'll be cool". That's probably also why it is so excessively longer than the typical 90 minute disaster movie.
This sort of shit isn't rare when executives don't let the writers do the writing. It ends up bloated, generic, and uninteresting, even if the core concepts are cool.

13:30, perhaps they meant a neutron star? Those can be as small as 20km in diameter. But yeah, this movie was laughably terrible. I quite enjoyed it. And this. 👍

a neutron star would be even *worse* than a white dwarf. They are the single densest objects in the universe that arent black holes

The trailer was so good and the cast has good actors so I don't know how they botched it s ok bad. There was potential but it honestly felt like a first draft 😬 There are plot points that don't make sense, most of the dialogue sucks (unforgivable), and so many cliches.
Such a bummer because the concept and visuals were cool.

I had the misfortune of watching this movie with some friends and then arguing with a friend about how a white dwarf would literally kill them if they even approached it due to the intense heat. Needless to say I was right and my friend kept saying "But the movie was great! and fun! 7/10" as I kept saying "2/10... everything was inaccurate and terrible, except the SFX"
