  • How to fit additional USB sockets in your campervan. I installed 2 additional Dual USB A Quick Charge as well as USB C PD sockets to help keep all my gadgets charged up.
    Connected via a Solid State Relay to ensure the existing campervan electrics don’t get overloaded for safety and longevity.

    Interesting vlog David, thanks for sharing. I admire anyone with confidence and bottle and who just cracks on with drilling and wiring etc like it's nothing! 😂. Great to watch. Cheers, Mo 😊👍

      Thanks Mo, it took a bit of planning especially on where to drill the holes - I always double check things now as have had it before where skipping that results in a load of hassle 😀

    Thank you for nice informative video. Does the solid state relay run hot? I don’t have any experience with dc to dc ones but used ac to dc ones at work and even at low currents they were extremely hot and had to be mounted on heat sinks.

    • @LeisureBit
      @LeisureBit  8 месяцев назад

      When I’ve checked and when there was a reasonable load they run warm but not too hot to touch I’ve found - I’m only using at less than half of the rated current though and at full rating would imagine they may run hotter and need some form of heat sink.
      I will do some extra checks as only checked a few times to make sure they weren’t running hot.
      All the best, David 👍

    Hi David. Did you test the USB sockets prior to drilling the holes in the van? Or only once you'd made the 30mm holes in the wall 😂

    • @LeisureBit
      @LeisureBit  10 месяцев назад

      Hi Chris, Great question - I did quickly check they powered up and have been using one for a year or so now (not these ones but same type lower down in the van) - also tested the cable but both of which easy to sort. fortunately all worked ok and the 30mm hole is a fairly standard size. 😀
      Thanks for the comment, have a great bank holiday weekend, David 🙌

    Smart job David, one I won't be doing as we take little tech away with us so hopefully can manage with the 2 standard charges and ours is now a fixed bed. Hope you and Rachel have a great weekend and dodge the weather, did you get your roof leak sorted? Cheers K.

    • @LeisureBit
      @LeisureBit  10 месяцев назад +1

      Thank you - fair enough no point if you wouldn’t need it. Leak not sorted yet but even with really bad rain it’s not been too bad all be it still an issue of course (you’ve reminded me as I got side tracked investigating what the issue is to sort it)
      Had a spell of rain today but fortunately a short one / hope you have a good weekend and the weather is kind.
      All the best, David & Rachel 👍

    Hi David. This is great. It mostly seems doable for someone like myself who is pretty ignorant about electrics. But at the bit where you say you connect the relay to a source that indicates when the van electrics are on, how would one go about finding and connecting to such a connection?

    • @LeisureBit
      @LeisureBit  8 месяцев назад

      Hi, thanks for the comment and a great question - there are a couple of ways of doing it, the easiest it to find an existing ‘thing’ which comes on when the van power is on such as a spot light fitting (which lots of folks just connect to anyway) - what type of van is it?
      Hope that makes sense, all the best, David 👍

    • @jonesieboy
      @jonesieboy 8 месяцев назад

      @@LeisureBit thanks David. It's a Hobby Vantana K65es. So the spot light will have a positive and negative connection. Are you running a wire from the positive side to the relay input? Sorry if this question displays an appalling ignorance of wiring and electricity!

    • @LeisureBit
      @LeisureBit  8 месяцев назад +1

      @@jonesieboy yes that’s right, from the positive (just check when you switch the van power off the spotlight goes off), if a mechanical really to the coil and if solid state to the input and then that switches the USB on without overloading the original van wiring. Hope that helps 👍

    Hi, can you provide some more detail / information on the "campervan" connection to the relay please? Is this just a power on signal when the van power is on?

    • @LeisureBit
      @LeisureBit  2 месяца назад +1

      Hello, yes that’s right it’s simply a signal when the campervan power is on and the relay is preventing too much.power going through the original electrics which weren’t designed for it.
      Hope that makes sense, all the best, David 👍

    • @Shep645

      Thanks David. So could I take a live feed from any nearby 12v circuit that is switched on when the van electrics are turned on, e.g a nearby cigarette lighter type socket?
