So this week I decided to make a rage game. Why? Well I just wanted to. It's definitely not because I was recently playing "Getting Over It with Bennett Foddy" and couldn't finish the game, so wanted to make others suffer.
This game uses a pretty neat mechanic called soft body physics. In the Box2D physics engine built into unity, no physics objects can bend or deform, which is absolutely no fun. So I programmed up my own substitute, and by programmed up I mean patched up my old code with stuff from the internet.
The game is called "Stick With It" 'cause you're like sticking to stuff, get it? In the game, you control a little blobby guy who is generally unimpressed with your jumping skills. An arrow constantly moving back and forth indicates the direction you can jump. But be careful! One wrong tap and it's back to the beginning.
I think I kinda failed at the whole "rage game" goal, which is to make something frustratingly hard that you still can't put down. This game, which is not even that hard by the way, is also not fun.

I make basic web comics and once spent several hours on an intricately detailed background... Before deciding it looked better with just a plain white background.
I'm not a game developer, though I'm looking to start. I know this is going to happen again, several times.

The soft body in Unity is pretty ingenious. I never would have thought about it!

it wont count for anything, its just there so that it adds the feeling that the game is judging you
Actually, that counter will count for competitive play and this is a great idea !

Cool idea for you, add a difficulty slider on the main menu that changes the speed at which the movement arrow spins so that people want to play since they get enticed with the easier difficulty and find themselves wanting the dopamine rush from beating impossible mode

Maybe but io games AREN'T this kind of game. You'd need to make it multiplayer, then put it in a browser, then make a way to progress by killing other players and get more powerful, but still not be invulnerable to being ninja'd by weaker players.
So, how would you conceptually adopt it into an io game?
Make it so if you land on another blob, you eat them and get bigger and your jump gets stronger. But of course you can still get ninja'd by a small blob landing on you. We do want to increase your visual range though. Maybe make the requirements for a kill that you fall through the exact center of a blob, to at least limit how OP high ground advantage is.
Then mess with the level design. We don't want players randomly falling on you from outer space to kill you, and we don't want the biggest players to go off and hide at the top of a highly frustrating and sequential level. Make caves with some of them small enough to make big players have a hard time maneuvering in them or even stop them from entering at all, and lots of little floating islands not that high up, so that they're within view of bigger players.

I can make soft body physics, but currently I'm trying to make a rigid body physics system which works around the limitations of a kid's programming language, I'd say it's going pretty well, except I'm using springs, and encountered a glitch where they would exponentially rotate faster, I'm wondering if there are any ways of fixing this.
I played it one time and it was a really blood boiling experience congrats 🎉
As one who managed to finish Getting Over It about a hundred times, I can surely say that this game is worse. But even though it makes me want to break everything in my house, it's a pretty good game. Keep going on with those videos :)
I think this game is generally easier than getting over it as gameplay, but the penalty for the minimum error is ridicolous, and the difficulty is not balanced in fact you find pixel perfect jumps anywhere. It's like the most unfair game ever, rather than the hardest. By the way I think i got almost to the end of the game, videos in my channel

I feel like it would be a bit more difficult if the sticky-ness was less sticky or something along those lines
So like.. slippery but just sticky enough to barely hold on?
By that I mean something along the lines of the blob jumping onto a wall, sticking, but shortly sliding down a bit afterwards.

I played this game before I watched your video and after I watched I checked the developer and it’s true you made it
I discovered a glitch that made the hardest mode the easiest.
Basically when you fall in any mode, you can pause and exit the game before you hit the ground. Then the game loads the last time you were grounded, so you can give any part a second chance. I used this and made lots of progress in the hardest mode XD
