Bill always says trust your instincts, but I didn't trust mine. I knew she was pulling away not later than the sixth month mark, but I believed all her BS excuses, and I didn't have a concept of back burners and love bombing and etc etc etc. I was a guy and if it wasn't working, I was just going to try harder, cuz I loved this girl. Whether I SHOULD love this girl didn't occur to me. Anyway. Long story short: I didn't really start getting over her till 10 years later. Something's so painful, you don't even want to look at it. Everytime I tried, my mind would go blank. Your instincts tell you 2 + 2 = 4, but you don't do the math. Not because you're dumb, but because it hurts and there's other coping mechanisms besides crying. You ever see a movie that was shaping up to be one of the best you've ever seen and then the studio or whoever completely flubbed it so badly at the end you wanted to forget you were dumb enough to buy a ticket? That's how it was and is for me. It was a beautiful plot that could have enriched everything that came after even if it didn't work out, instead, all I'll remember it for was the epic faceplant at the end.
