  • The Jetta gets some updates & changes for 2022 from VW. On the outside you will notice a new front fascia, wheels and rear bumper. On the inside there is leather seating, digital gauge cluster and 8in infotainment screen. Under the hood is an upgraded 1.5L turbocharged inline-4 that produces 158HP & mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. Is the 2022 VW Jetta a BETTER new sedan to buy than a Honda Civic?

    I think the ambient lighting, oversized sunroof, ventilated seats, heated rear seats and the fact that the navigation can be configured to be shown in the cockpit sets it apart from the Civic Touring. The instrument cluster in the cockpit is much more customizable overall and that's a huge plus for me. 10 time outta 10 taking this over the Civic.

    • @ChrisBurns15
      @ChrisBurns15 2 года назад +8

      Kevin you hit the nail on the head. I purchased a 22 SEL over the Civic Sport. The Civic Touring is around 35k$ and the dealers are price gouging them due to their very low production of that trim. I agree with your points 100% and let’s face it, this is an MQB Audi A3/A4 with a 1.5L engine. It’s German design and quality. Get in a Civic and you’re overwhelmed by the cheap
      plastic everywhere. You can get a sunroof unless you get a touring or SI and it’s an old 1988 sunroof not a partial Pano like this. It has some shortfalls but overall it’s more quality vehicle for your money.

    • @corybureau4124
      @corybureau4124 9 месяцев назад

      Volkswagens are also primarily plastic... and honda has superior build quality. the civic is going to ride better considering it has multi-link suspension while the jetta is torsion beam. VW offers more tech, and sleeker styling, but that's all.@@ChrisBurns15

    I've got a 2019 Jetta SEL with the beats and going into the settings with an OBDeleven to set the audio to fender made a huge difference in sound quality. From the factory it's configured as a base model so it sends the full frequency to all speakers. Setting to fender ads hi and low crossovers. That one setting woke up the system, bass is deeper, crisper highs, clearer sounding overall and also more powerful. It'll get substantially louder before distorting

    Avg 38 mpg in the city, many times hit 41mpg.
    All depends on if I concentrated on MPG.
    Blew out a tire at 9500, not the cars fault, no real problems. By the way I have a six speed manual and I recommend the 6 speed manual. It works together with the engine to get the most power, plus if you follow the eco mode you get absolutely great MPG.

    Unfortunately almost every SEL I've looked at in this later part of 2022 has the ventilated seats deleted - chip shortage. They give you a measly $200 credit to make up for your back being sweating in the summer. The better buy in the Jetta lineup is Sport. For about $23,000 with the IQ Drive package and automatic you get a lot of content for the money. You can also get a manual for a $800 less.

    • @CristianHernandez-xh7bz
      @CristianHernandez-xh7bz 2 года назад

      That really is a bummer. I think the shift in the lineup is kind of weird. The R-line used to be an SE but with a few cosmetic changes, an LSD, and the option for a manual. Now the sport is like a small step above base so you miss out on SE options like the sunroof.

So many great points about it some you didn’t get around to share. The leather seats and interior (other than that rear seat center console not sure what happened there) are amazing and the ambient lighting, partial Pano sunroof, and other quality pieces are superb. What’s not superb, That lower rear bumper! I hate it. I’m not gonna lie. It’s embarrassing and I’m going to be replacing the rear bumper cover and lower pieces with the GLI version. It’s worth the $$ to me. Great review. Oh and yes, I drove Orlando to South FL and averaged just about 38 MPGs and close to low 40s a good portion of the stratight aways. Lastly, Civic Sport does NOT come with any of the safety features like lane control, smart Cruise Control with lane keeping and auto follow distance, blind spot monitoring , and auto braking. To me that alone is worth the price of admission to the A3/A4 Light!!

    Toyota makes a great reliable car ,without a doubt. Ive driven the Corolla and the Camry and I don’t like the interior and styling of either one. I wish Toyota could integrate their infotainment screen into the dash instead of the perching it like a cheap Etch A Sketch . The Jetta feels solid . Everything matches in a simple , classy way. It just feels like a more solid car. I drove a rental with 50,000 miles on the clock and it felt like a brand new car. Ive driven a Kia K5 and the Jetta is a far more solid car then that. ( i had to google how to get the fuel door open. A combination of hitting the passenger door unlock and pressing the right spot at the right time on the gas filler door almost caused me to get so mad i almost took a screwdriver to it.) However, idk how long or how reliable the 1.5 liter turbo in the Jetta is. I personally am not a big fan of turbos. But all in all the Jetta just “feels” good. Simple but good. Those are my 2 cents.

    Hi, Joe. Nice review. Can you tell me if the menu of the onboard computer allows the display of the AC in Celsius degrees ? Also, the odometer with the km/hour for the speed ? In other words, this Jetta can be set for use on Europe's roads ?

    Do they still make the aluminum oil pans on the VW Jetta? I owned a 2003 VR6 Jetta, and the oil pan busted while I was on the highway. I pulled over and smoke was everywhere. The car was taken to the closest VW dealership, where they said the engine was blown because I drove it too far without oil after the aluminum oil pan busted. All I saw was the check engine light come on, so I pulled over. VW refused the warranty, and I never went back to VW. I owned the Rabbit, Passat, and the Jetta.

    It's a beautiful car, better looking at the front than the Civic. It looks like the outgoing 3 series BMW. Let's hope it's shaken off the Germany unreliability which Hondas certainly don't suffer from. You just couldn't beat German styling until the recent insane grills BMW are putting out in their cars. 40 MPG is excellent, and with an 80 MPH speed limit the HP and even higher torque to HP ratio provides adequate power. The fact that the HP is lower than the torque means this 4 cylinder is several restricted in boost which leave enough room to add 50% more power for the aftermarket tuners.

    Funny thing is the new Civic looks like the Jetta! But, the Jetta sold me with the ventilated seats, 8spd Automatic transmission, and over-sized sunroof. I believe the Jetta offers ambient lighting, as well.

    We had issues with 2 Passat 2.8 v6 , 1.8T and a Touareg v8 , issues before and after Warranty.
    One Passat was traded for v6 Rav4 , best decision ever
    Other Passat was traded for Honda Civic
    The Touareg for 4Runner , we have never looked back at VW and most likely never will.

    When comparing base and sport trim levels the Jetta easily wins for me. The 2.0 and cvt in the civic are just pathetic. 0-60 in 9.2 seconds according to motor trend. But as soon as you go EX or higher on the civic it becomes the easy pic with its 1.5 turbo and much better interior.

    I had a new 2020 Jetta and it got fantastic gas mileage, 40mpg hwy. I had the sport model which was fine except it had the stock stereo which wasn't great. It was very comfortable and fast, the only thing I didn't like was the 8 spd. trans which was made in Japan? It didn't shift great, maybe the newer ones are better. Overall I liked it very much and for 20k it was a great deal for me at the time. I traded for a suv otherwise I would have kept it.
    Also regarding his review of the stereo, I've had previous vehicles with the Bose system and was not impressed, I feel it is over rated. But I did have a 2019 VW beetle with the Fender stereo and I didn't know they even made car stereo's but it was the very best I have ever heard, I wish they would have kept it but now he said they are using Beats audio.

    I think this is a nicely balanced vehicle, but should have manual height adjustable front passenger seat, ratchet height arm rest like the Golf, rear A/C vents and two USB-A or USB-C in the rear as well.
    Thank God it doesn’t have that touch capacitive crap on the steering wheel like the GLI does!!
    Also, the Honda Civic honeycomb dash design crap will be full of detritus within the first month of ownership. That would drive me crazy. I much prefer the clean dash lines of the Jetta!
    Good review Joe.

    As a 2021 GLI owner, between the Jetta and the civic, despite my disdain for CVTs, I think I would pick civic over Jetta. The digital dash is nice and ventilated seats are nice (if you can get them) are the only counterpoints against the civic

    My 2017 Jetta SEL has a 1.8L turbo engine, but gets 35 hwy 29 city and 32 combined. But has a top speed of 135 without unlocking it ( or whatever it's called) to 155. Also it has more HP with premium grade but runs fine on regular.
    It also has a more aggressive front end and exhaust tips, but it's one exhaust to 2 tips, not dual exhaust.
    Also has a manual e brake. I prefer the style, engine and flat dash of the 2011 to 2018, but the warranty is better since 2019
