Is the 2022 VW Jetta GLI 6-speed a BETTER sport sedan than a Honda Civic Si?

  • The Jetta GLI has been the compact sedan for those that want more performance from VW. For 2022 VW has made some updates to better compete with rivals. On the outside there is a new grill, front fascia, headlights and wheels. On the inside there is an updated steering wheel, dash and shift knob. Under the hood is the 2.0L turbocharged inline-4 that produces 228HP & mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox. Is the 2022 VW Jetta GLI 6-speed a BETTER sport sedan than a Honda Civic Si?

@@RaitisRides yes I would definitely think the Jetta is better in terms of interior quality it is fun to drive it's fast one time we was racing a Civic Sport against a Grand Caravan wheelchair van and the Civic lost against the Grand Caravan so in a race against the Civic and GLI I am sorry to break it to you the Civic might win because it has more power but Honda is a flaw in my opinion for the new Civics interior it's too modern the dashboard is trash but the GLI wins every battle in my opinion unless you put that GLI in sport mode you're smoking the Civic if they try to pass do what the cops do do a pit maneuver to have the Civic spin out and lose the race but Joe here is my conclusion I would spend the money on the GTI over the Civic but the Civic is better in terms of exterior styling so for styling the Civic is a lot nicer than the GTI it's better on the outside and Volkswagen has done it all it made the all expectations Honda is getting there but the 10th generation 2016-2021 Civic was even better than the GTI it was way way better than the GTI was back then but I would take the GTI over the Civic

Ex-GLI owner here. I had a 2020 GLI. In the 16 months I owned it (19,000 miles), it was at the dealer 14 times for major repairs. Wiper failures, engine computer, infotainment, overhead console - all failed multiple times. By the time VW took it back (it almost went to court), the rear sensors that controlled cross traffic assist had failed, but I didn't bother repairing it. There was interior trim that had either fallen off or had come loose. Serious interior rattles started forming at 8,000 miles - all due to the horrific quality of plastic used on the doors.
VW has the reputation for very spotty quality and I got one that was very poorly built. I absolutely loved the engine/DSG combo. The shifts were so quick and it always seemed to know what gear I wanted. The interior was attractive and the interior lighting helped keep eye fatigue at bay at night. The highway ride and mileage was excellent and it makes a good cruising car. I had the base stereo which was (and I'll be nice) below average, but that is no longer available. And I had the real buttons on the wheel. I've used the VW haptic controls and honestly, that would be a deal breaker for me because it was a guessing game with what was being pressed. And the base Hankook tires...the less said about them, the better. You'll want to swap those out ASAP. And the fake engine noise pumped in will get on your nerves in no time. Set the exhaust to "Eco" if you're doing highway cruising and want to hear the stereo.
Raiti did sum up a lot of the good parts with the interior and all of the space. But if you really look at the GLI, you can see that VW REALLY built to a price point and not to be an excellent sports sedan. Little things like the no vents in the back and the trunk hinges - all could have been resolved for a couple of dollars, but VW said forget it. And when you're going to spend $30,000+ for a car, those little things add up. The fake vents and honeycomb trim on the outside detracted from what was a tasteful and understated exterior.
This would be a good car to lease. Get your 2-3 years of fun and enjoyment before the warranty expires and the serious bills come in. I got burned by the GLI and VW and they lost a future customer here.

Sedans will always and forever have their place in the automotive market. If it didn't, car buying would tank drastically.

In fact the Tune and engine is so safe at those powers that tuning companies now offer matching your warranty if you pay 500$ extra on your tune, knowing the chances of a stage 1 tune doing any damage is slim to none while that extra 500$ from each customer is well worth it.
