"your boss may own the clock that taunts you from the wall, but the hour my friend, is yours alone" is the best line in the book if you disagree youre wrong. Page 197 slaps.
I agree about the book…one quote, ‘Also, they are made of metal, whereas man is made of skin.’ Is classic Ben Stiller comedy. It almost sounds as if those words came out of Derek Zoolanders mouth.
Yup! And then hooked my friends on the show, and made them watch all of these, and watched them again, as if I were watching for the first time through their eyes… It’s a problem.
That’s exactly what I did, I’m working my way through my 3rd rewatch of the show after watching pretty much all of these videos. I’m definitely noticing a lot more now and coming up with my own theories.
I love listening to your silky barritone as I prepare to get into Innie mode for work. Congrats on checking another milestone! Looking forward to your content always!
Adam is perfect for Mark. There's a lot of subtle things that are more impressive than just surface level analysis. I'm getting impatient for season 2 man
Potentially for your next video ... In the comments to "Severance Theories #9 [What's Up With The Food?]" there were questions about how folks there eat lunch. I have comments: 1. When Mark views his Department Chief task list, one of his duties is to check on innie lunches. 2. There's a point in a different scene (possibly a different episode) where Irving is rooting around in the fridge, pulls out a large paper bag with a blue label on it, reads the label, and puts it back in without opening the bag. My guess is that the bag contained an employee lunch, possibly not Irving's. Here's rooting for 10k subscribers!
I feel like this is 101 but I’ve not gone to Reddit to check - on rewatch, they’ve made a huge deal of Mark being a drunk now as an outtie. It sure feels like part of the Gemma story could involve a DUI related accident. (Also now he drives a Volvo - the quintessential safe car?) Getting through grief is one thing. Getting through grief by first forgiving yourself for your role in a painful event is another thing entirely.
Yeah, there are several lines throughout that could be hinting that he likes the sauce a bit too much, and it's also curious how they don't give us any idea on whether or not Mark was in the car on that night.
I just noticed something interesting, from the observation in the video at 7:34. The innie employees at Lumon are very similar in nature to the TVA employees in the TV series "Loki", both severed from their original lives, and generally happy with it until faced with an existential crisis. And the floor equipment is similar as well, with retro-tech and even department compartmentalization. Just a little fun to think about :)
@@nautilusfiles To be honest Loki is the only marvel TV show I have watched since Endgame. And the only movies were Spiderman 3 and Black Panther 2. So you are in good company! :)
Also, the actress who plays Helly has been sharing bts photos on her instagram stories... subtle ones, and possibly intentionally delayed ones but she posted them as recent as yesterday. Been screenshotting and saving them like the tin hat warrior I am lol
I've been enjoying ur breakdown on Severance being as I just watch the entire season a couple weeks ago. I hope ur planning on downing a breakdown on Constilation
I love your videos! Can't wait for season 2! What editing software do you use for your videos? They're incredible? And how do you use video clips of the show?
Hey Nautilus, I really enjoy and appreciate your Severance videos; I do have to disagree with you on one of the things you say in this one: 3:55 "Severance becomes his escape, offering a break from the pain of loss." I cannot disagree with you more on that one. Mark's outie life is relentless and unbroken pain; if anything, Mark's outie is distilled pain and suffering: there is nothing in his life to distract him from his pain and grief. Also, if you think about it, he's still in a much earlier stage of grief than someone who's not been severed would be, because he's missing out on one third of his life (sleep and work being the other parts). As a slight aside, Mark's innie's conscious life is kind of longer than roughly two and a half years, because he doesn't go home and sleep. I do absolutely agree that Mark is punishing himself though, it's just worse than you think!
Not sure if you have seen it or not but I’ve been recently watching Mr.Robot and it seems like a show you would enjoy based on the shows you cover on your channel
Great video as always! If you're looking for a new show to cover while waiting for Severance season 2, could you perhaps consider Constellation also on Apple TV? It has a Severance style of mystery and lends itself to multiple videos speculating whats really going on.😊
tinfoiler here, let’s do this! sorry if these were theories already shared by you or by other people in your comments, at this point it's all just jumbled together in my mind 1. I hope we get to see Helena Eagan/Helly R reintegrated, it would be so interesting seeing her innie and outie come to terms with one another 2. I hope the characters will push their severence chips to the limit in season 2, and see what they are capable of. There’s this science fiction trilogy that I love (won’t say the name to avoid spoilers) - in that series, there’s a subjugated population of humans that are genetically engineered to serve a specific job in society. But once they reclaim and explore their abilities, it turns out they can push them far beyond the limits of the original intetions, and they are essentially capable of magic. I hope the severed people will find a way (such as through meditation?) to use their severance to unlock hidden powers in their brains, similar to the “third eye awakening” 3. I am curious about the marketing of severence as a treatment for mental health, and I wonder if this could be relevant to Harmony’s story. It reminds me of back when they used to perform lobotomies on women with anxiety, depresion, etc. It is very possible Harmony went through a lot of trauma in her life (death of her mother, bullying/abuse in the girls’ school, her husband dying, maybe also losing a child?). So, I think Harmony may have been severed as part of a trial study for a new medical procedure to treat women with mental health problems. I think her chip is malfunctional, and also over time it has messed up her ability to perceive time (since memory and time percenption are linked, i.e. severence of “perceptual chrolonogies”). That is why she gets confused about the dates for her bins, makes outdated references, and sometimes acts more childlike (e.g. playing with the finger trap). 4. Not a theory, but why does MDR use so much paper? Their office is full of reems of paper, and they have so many paper files. Seems strange, considering that all their work appears to be on the computer.
I hope in season two, we will see the events of season 1 from Helena Eagan’s perspective. Like how they did episode 2 of season 1 showing her outie’s side of things
Severance season 3 and new theory videos by Nautilus Files. The only things I need. Anyways, @Nautilus Files, how many times have you watched Severance so far? Does it have rewatch value?
it might be one of the best shows to rewatch, even if just for the dialogue alone. I'm probably on my 5th rewatch and I still pick up on new details I missed in previous viewings.
Have you seen the acronyms in the show, MDR's names= HDMI, last name RGBs, maybe even ReGaBi's name representing something, do you have any theories or other possible secrets, even if they don't have answers? Also, it seems like all the file names are some type of body of water if you look them up, is the a coincidence? We know the Lumon logo is a droplet, so what could the meaning be?
I was guessing October release, which is just over your 6 month estimate since it is early March now. There was originally a goal of an October release 2023 before the writers' and actors' strikes. It seems convenient for them to just push it one year. Then again, if it is done then it is done. I just hope they give us enough notice for me to resub to AppleTV and to rewatch season 1 before season 2 starts coming out.
I've heard rumors in-line with that October release window. I think it might be the earliest we can expect because they will probably want to avoid a Summer release and Spring is too soon.
3:56 it's weird to call severance an "escape" for Outie Mark's depression, because he doesn't experience Innie life. I don't know if I've quite suffered depression as severe as the character, but certainly work itself is normally a bit of a distraction from depression. Mark doesn't get that distraction. Outie Mark is slumped at home 24/7 (from his perspective). In that sense I almost wonder if it's slightly unrealistic, since when I was depressed I'd _occasionally_ try various things to try to distract myself from the feeling. (I wouldn't try often, because during depression you aren't exactly motivated to do a lot, but it's hard for a person to be in that state perpetually.) So we'd actually expect Outie Mark to be slightly more proactive than normal at distracting himself, due to not personally experiencing work (which is sort of a free, default distraction for depression in many cases).
I think devin is more relevant to the story then is lead on. Up front she seems like she hates lumen but I think she could be a sleeper cell, her lifestyle is just too weird. How are they rich when her husband makes terrible books. Why do most of their friends seem like they’re severed. It’s no secret that mark lived in lumen housing but she let his neighbor play nanny…. I think she knows more
"your boss may own the clock that taunts you from the wall, but the hour my friend, is yours alone" is the best line in the book if you disagree youre wrong. Page 197 slaps.
