PWARGaming i just ran into a head piece that i think might be a good alternative. its in the defiled castle there is an npc that wants dungballs. if you give him enough he will give you a helmet. i got a horned turbam kabuto with close combat attack when surrounded increase per enemy next to you A+ rating along with Easy target which makes enemies target you over your allies. i just thought with a helmet like this wouldnt you overall get a huge power spike and also tank for pve?

I'm currently testing this build on PC on way of the demon, i'm level 300, more than 3000 in defence (all equipment is lv200 +18), my build is a little less damaging (i miss some attributes) but, theoretically, more beefy. Instead, enemies devastate me if i'm not very careful, and even in way of the strong i receive damage, not very much but far from "immortality". So, i can understand that in WOFD enemies with 200 level more than me hit me hard, but the damage in WOFS makes me think of a heavy nerf with the latest patch. Still, it is very viable and fun to play, so thanks very much :)
I actuality found how tanky Tatenashi was on my own. While playing around with other skills for more survivability, with the reduced elemental damage on accessories, combined with the Agyo title bonuses, it's possible to be 101% resistant to elemental damage. It's been pretty hilarious running with that. Combined with the Steel Protection combo, you take 0 damage from everything.
I'm loving this build for going through Way of the Demon. I recommend getting all 3 Ninja Tool Mastery and equipping 3 Power Pills for some extra damage. Using Hi-Nezuma as my secondary spirit.
I'm not sure how the Honda clan bonus works, but I believe it's actually a 40% chance to halve damage if you are at full life, not a minimum of 40% damage reduction at full life. that's why I picked the heavy armor bonus clan
Even then, halving the damage seems great to me. That's 50% more effectiveness for protection talisman at full nearly half the time, or more if you get higher in rankings. while todo means more protection talisman broken but at high level with 99 body (almost 6k life before todo), only equates to about 12% more life to work with with 1% more damage. I prefer hondo route, but both are great regardless.
Okay so that's two axe builds and two spear builds... Heavy armor Bare Fist build GO. My gut feeling is that +Attack will give more value than inheriting %Bare-Handed onto every piece given the low base damage, but I have not tested this and it would depend on whether the Magical Fisting Talismans buff the base attack or are just a massive multiplier and how that stacks with the gear bonuses. It's also hard to find revenants with high tier inheritable Bare-Handed so the flat Attack is probably easier to get running. Granted I haven't Fisted anything since the Carnage nerf, but I was punching Onryoki in the buttbutt for like 10k. The real meat of this setup is the one-shot parries but I feel like with heavy armor, Protection, Rejuvination, and Kekkai you can do some funny shit. Worth noting that the Change to Attack (Body) on Warrior of the East adds Body scaling to bare fists...
I've thought about it, but it moves so fast that you just fly by everything only doing a tiny bit of damage unless you got them against the wall, so it wouldn't be viable in any meaningful sense. Nice sanic build, but would be super meme haha

Thing is where we are in Nioh nowdays everyone knows the basic super efficient builds, the alternative stuff is whats up, like your tank build here. There are still some other builds that arent very well known and efficient tho. Example, Water elemental build (i know it sounds crazy but, no buff 3k-4k water damage per hit, how? No one cares about water clan, therefore its easy to get 1st place in the clan, which means that you can get the maximun possible clan damage buff without a sweat!)

if you want to stack skill ki reduction for randome slice, you'd want somethign like swordmaster 2-piece, genius strategist 4-piece, kato spirit, a weapon rolled for skill ki reduction (and optionally skill ki reduction critical, if living weapon builds are your thing)
PWARGaming The higher rank that you get in a clan the higher the bonnus, get 1st place in 2 wars and you'll have the maximun possible damage buff from clan (no its not infinite xD) thats what I could conclude from my time researching clan buffs. If you find anything new tho dont hold back!
Not sure what the game allows for with regards to blocking specifically (not so much parries) versus tanking. This with respect to ki lost when blocking, elemental damage reduction and such (what's the best one can strive for on this front). Seeing this build have moments of 0 damage is very encouraging for silly focused builds. It would be nice to see a block that could 100% absorb even one elemental attack, suffer 0 ki loss (or near enough it, I suppose) from blocking some attack and that sort of thing.

hi pwargaming, just finished the game and have played a couple missions with people on way of the strong and wanted to do this one in particular. do you recomend reseting my skills like yours and then hunt for the gear you use? i still dont understand how to upgrade things to a specific skill set.
I would hunt for gear first, then reset level to copy stats best way you can, going for magic/dex/spirit first, then working on stamina/str. You can watch my hurricane titan build for a much lower level axe build, use that, than when you're high lvl enough transition to this one (better). This one needs to be around lvl230+, so there's little wiggle room unlike 99% of my other builds.
while the swordmaster duals/skill ki reduction si great, you could consider using WoTW sword+helmet for the 4-piece bonus (including the bow) for the additional CCA and such
yah have that in the description :p I think the damage is fine to not need to have to wear it, or more so that it wouldn't make too much a difference when things melt fast anyways to where the utility of spinning a tad longer is more preferable.

Depends what you mean by first playthrough. If you mean you're in ng+ for first time, then you might be able to pull it off at lv170-200. All depends how much stamina/str you need to wear 4 tatenashi pieces. Might be lower, might be higher. Remove mask to be lighter. If you're ng, no chance, its purely ng+, the set's too heavy and needs higher stam/str.
mmm I honestly don't know. The problem is I haven't played ng at all in a month, and for times I did play it, I used certain setups to level fast that probably don't work now. Best bet is to follow distortion2's nioh speedruns, he uses fist+kusa to beat ng in less than 2 hours. Generally just having carnage+sloth (on bosses) can work for every player. Builds don't really exist in ng, you use whatever best thing you find from drops/revenants. Use Kato (spirit), get spirit to 10, and try your best. Generally ng is easy enough if you look around to help you fight certain bosses, but normal progressing through a level is pretty straightforward.
So, my main problem with this build is that I always get interrupted when I am doing the mad spinner, I dont even get to finish it specially with fast enemies. any ideas that could help? thanks!

Morning to ya. In basic game settings the very last setting on the very first screen that pops up is "display head gear", simply turn it off. Most transformations will have their helmet off. Not all can though (like kelly).
This is what I was looking for. I want to keep the Atlas Bear though... I really like it. I would want to see a build that heavily focuses on Magic and swords next. However, is going 99 Magic (or even above 40 or 50) really worth it?
If you were going to rely on magic I'd say go all in, but at that point it's not smart to do it unless you're doing it for damage with elemental shots. Generally 30 magic is all you need (and can fit on jutsu) if it's just for buffs.
No I meant all in, not just buffs. Do the elemental shots scale really well on high magic? Also combined with bonus defense from Magic stat on armor and Genbu it might be a little tanky as well maybe? Or is Tengen Kujaku just a must have with this?
They can do nice damage at 99 (3k+ proccing status in 2-3 shots.). I doubt magic armor would be tankier than tatenashi tho, defense seems to not matter too much past 1.7k. I would think mouse is better spirit due to unlimited omnyo and some magic power. Running out of shots would be the concern.
no, I've thought about it though, but I don't know if there's actually a difference between 330 toughness and 470 toughness haha. I REALLY wish toughness past 300 meant immunity to stun or something, but even then yokai realms ruin your fun when you spin2win half the time xD

If only it did. I wanted to do extraction talisman + lw suzaku spin2win exploit since extraction talisman was buffed, allowing you near permanent spin against an enemy until lw timer kicked in. But constantly getting knocked out of spin even with over 240 toughness caused me to trash it (since you can't respin during lw). It wasn't reliable. This build does nearly the same thing but better since everything dies in a spin cycle anyways, but you gain tankiness and interruptions are whatever, simply respin and not care for whats attacking you hehe
still effective, probably not as stupidly tanky in wotd (probably can't do beginning part in wotd for example), but, this was the last build that i made it through wotd from start to finish, no deaths, hardly any problems whatsoever, no/minimal upgrades, no changes made. Currently working on an updated version of this, should be up before end of month, if it's worth changing anything to begin with.

True Red Dragon Emperor If you mean his Nippon Steel Build: I'm running it and yes it's still viable. Just be careful with the dual bossfights if you are not powerful enough to 2 - shot Bosses.
Last one is as effective as you can get for sword. Any other setups will be weaker in some regard, with the most damage increase being 12.2% from 4 pc west+5pc kingo, but you'd lose other perks that are better imo. Push comes to shove, just spam guardian spirit talismans on human missions like my cheese video :p
Awesome build, but too bad I just got into Nioh like a week ago and I'm still pretty early in-game, and I was wondering if you could make a beginner's Dual Swords build since I'm complete trash at making a build myself.
kingo's set is the best set early on (can get set smithing text 2nd region conspirators mission), and arguably the best set in general now. I would wear that full set (farm revenants if you need extra pieces), and use whatever dual swords as main wpn. Use kato. Get enough magic/dex to get 1-2 quick change scrolls and for magic get enough to use carnage+steel talisman. If you want you can use sloth too. than after that go into damage stats like skill, but make sure you can wear kingo armor with b agility (so pump stamina up). Use windstorm on everything. Use shrike to parry humans. That's my recommendation.
carnage gives more damage, and steel talisman completely nullifies carnage weakness. Carnage gave more than double the increase when used with tengen/kara post patch 1.06. And the build needs the damage I'd say.
I was just referring to the fact that you suggested not using Carnage with Susanoo because it was nerfed and it was better to just use Power Pill (Susanoo Post-Patch video).
That was based off, like I said, things I heard. Also wasn't in the actual video, it was a comment, as I wasn't 100% sure. You can easily test however. But the question should be then is if you can justify running steel talisman for that extra damage from carnage over pill (if any), which takes up jutsu slots. This tank build can since well, you're goal is to be tanky, and steel not only replaces carnage debuff but gives the original defense buff (when used after you cast carnage). So it's a different case than susanoo/lw.
Just wanted to put it out there,if only usto use Nue Mask is for Lightening damage then you can use Magatam or Prayer beads with Lightening damage of 13.8 but then you probably wont get YOkai combat damage. its just for those who want to get more damage reduction with one piece of any helm set. But i think I like build because it doesnt rely on LW and any other stupid stuff. One question, Can I reforge Change to Attack on my Axe cuz that's the only thing I'm missing on it.
yah you can reforge cta on axe, nothing conflicts with it, except other cta. For the helm someone suggested a better replacement in the comments, which I've pinned. the lightning damage was whatever. status is barely effective when you melt stuff in under 5 seconds anyways.
lol that's right. I was farming Nue Mask for hrs but that fucker wont even drop. But I got Prayer beads with Lightening damage so I guess I'll just roll with it. thanks tho
Yo I did that return of the gourd mission but it didn't give me that smithing text. It was a different armor. Does t drop from one of the revenants or boss in that mission? If so then I'll do that rather then spend hours trying to get the damn boots in the obsidian samurai mission. 😂
from revenants. However, new update randomizes all stats from revenant drops so everyone is SOL if they don't have a an extra cta inheritable wpn pre-patch. You'll have to reforge it yourself, and yes it is hell.
Not to mention they added so many new traits with the patch, reducing the chances of reforging it by even more. Either way, really fun build. I'm sure that CTA will pop up eventually.
yokai incense. Run through the level while kiting for some good fun :) Most builds would be dead trying to do so, so this is only really possible with axe/kusa spin skills and being tanky enough not to get combo wombo'd.
yes, I should specify it's not a mission reward. Its a smithing text DROP like you would get from defeating bosses for their smithin text. I've gotten monobe axe and tatenashi text from farming gourd.
Think the bosses dropped it (oda/yasuke). But isle of demons in ng+ near the water, usually have some revenants wearing tatenashi. I would try that 1st.
refill? out of ki (recovery speed) on an armor piece is probably the reason. Also B agility. C agility increases ki cost of attacks/skills. Battle focus (axe skill) is also generally needed to spin longer.
sorry for my bad english, I got out of stamina (KI, the bar below the health one) Im B on agility and battle focus is on. My set have some skill KI reduction, should I reroll some more? 'cause you spin like, forever, and after just 3-4 seconds I can't anymore. :/
do you have ki reduction on wpn? I have 23% reduction (mid stance ki reduction, so when I spin in mid stance, it takes less ki), and then 14.6% from master swordsman. Also have 184 ki. The more you have, the more you spin. I have 15 heart. ki on chest piece. Copy what you can, that's all I can say.
Gonna try out tonight, I'm almost lvl 300 and gonna respect more points to KI, thanks m8! if it works, I'll let you know haha your susano build is carrying me on at least, finish all missions on "way of the strong".
anything for axe usually works, the skills are overpowered (titanic strength, lumber chop, spin2win). Only in the final difficulty is where you might have some trouble since defense is nearly useless (unless heavily stacked sacrificng dmg) in way of the nioh because of the OP damage enemies deal.
gear from revenants drop their original stats, and my axe was just a plain kaido axe with nothing special. I had to farm around for a cta str wpn to put on my axe. So dropping my axe would be pointless since you wouldn't get the cta, only normal trash stats the original had. Try isle of demons or spirit slumbers, eventually you'll find one. cta stamina is fine too.
How long did it take you to farm that Nue mask? I want it to round off any lighting build I have in mind now or the DLC, but still no drop after 40+ runs.
Not necessarily a divine one, I believe the best way of farming is doing one of the new quests (one of those boss runs), though I can't recall which one, might edit this comment if I went for it and figured out which one it is
Huggy Bear I feel you on those regards, most of my friends got ogress in 5 tries tops. I farmed her 60+ times in Way of the Strong, switched to Way of the Samurai, killed her 3 times, got it on the 3rd time. Crazy Rngeezuz
do they have a damage stat already? (like skill dmg, strong attack, attack from behind, etc) you can only have 1 normal (white/blue) damage stat on a weapon.
yes. this build is balanced. My Buzzsaw build is offensive ver., and my immortal axe build is defense. Mastodon is in-between them in offense and defense. All 3 are good.

Return of the Gourd ng+ gives you a guaranteed drop. Otherwise you have to hope it drops randomly or from trail of the master mission method (youtube it)

on higher rankings Todo goes up to 3% damage bonus per heavy armor piece and +30 life per stamina...

kusa blade spin first, dual swords sign of cross 3rd. this would be 2nd. Kusa just clears a bit faster, and is the best at amrita farming.

How do I make the character transformation for Li to go without the helmet? Same as your character in the video.
Morning to ya. In basic game settings the very last setting on the very first screen that pops up is "display head gear", simply turn it off. Most transformations will have their helmet off. Not all can though (like kelly).

I would want to see a build that heavily focuses on Magic and swords next. However, is going 99 Magic (or even above 40 or 50) really worth it?
If you were going to rely on magic I'd say go all in, but at that point it's not smart to do it unless you're doing it for damage with elemental shots. Generally 30 magic is all you need (and can fit on jutsu) if it's just for buffs.
No I meant all in, not just buffs. Do the elemental shots scale really well on high magic? Also combined with bonus defense from Magic stat on armor and Genbu it might be a little tanky as well maybe? Or is Tengen Kujaku just a must have with this?
They can do nice damage at 99 (3k+ proccing status in 2-3 shots.). I doubt magic armor would be tankier than tatenashi tho, defense seems to not matter too much past 1.7k. I would think mouse is better spirit due to unlimited omnyo and some magic power. Running out of shots would be the concern.

no, I've thought about it though, but I don't know if there's actually a difference between 330 toughness and 470 toughness haha. I REALLY wish toughness past 300 meant immunity to stun or something, but even then yokai realms ruin your fun when you spin2win half the time xD
PWARGaming yeah, I have been playing around with non crit setup too, it's a noticeable difference between the two. I will give this a go with the hood when I get a chance :) enjoy your vids man, nice.

If only it did. I wanted to do extraction talisman + lw suzaku spin2win exploit since extraction talisman was buffed, allowing you near permanent spin against an enemy until lw timer kicked in. But constantly getting knocked out of spin even with over 240 toughness caused me to trash it (since you can't respin during lw). It wasn't reliable.
This build does nearly the same thing but better since everything dies in a spin cycle anyways, but you gain tankiness and interruptions are whatever, simply respin and not care for whats attacking you hehe
Bought the game recently and saw your video, how effective is this build with the current patch? Still learning the game.
still effective, probably not as stupidly tanky in wotd (probably can't do beginning part in wotd for example), but, this was the last build that i made it through wotd from start to finish, no deaths, hardly any problems whatsoever, no/minimal upgrades, no changes made. Currently working on an updated version of this, should be up before end of month, if it's worth changing anything to begin with.

True Red Dragon Emperor If you mean his Nippon Steel Build: I'm running it and yes it's still viable. Just be careful with the dual bossfights if you are not powerful enough to 2 - shot Bosses.
Last one is as effective as you can get for sword. Any other setups will be weaker in some regard, with the most damage increase being 12.2% from 4 pc west+5pc kingo, but you'd lose other perks that are better imo. Push comes to shove, just spam guardian spirit talismans on human missions like my cheese video :p
Awesome build, but too bad I just got into Nioh like a week ago and I'm still pretty early in-game, and I was wondering if you could make a beginner's Dual Swords build since I'm complete trash at making a build myself.
kingo's set is the best set early on (can get set smithing text 2nd region conspirators mission), and arguably the best set in general now. I would wear that full set (farm revenants if you need extra pieces), and use whatever dual swords as main wpn. Use kato. Get enough magic/dex to get 1-2 quick change scrolls and for magic get enough to use carnage+steel talisman. If you want you can use sloth too. than after that go into damage stats like skill, but make sure you can wear kingo armor with b agility (so pump stamina up). Use windstorm on everything. Use shrike to parry humans. That's my recommendation.

Revenant. Scour isle of demons ng+ or ask on reddit sub specifically for revenant trading and you should get one in due time.
Maybe I am missing something here or just stupid, but why use Carnage instead of Power Pill in this instance (post patch 1.06 nerf)?
carnage gives more damage, and steel talisman completely nullifies carnage weakness. Carnage gave more than double the increase when used with tengen/kara post patch 1.06. And the build needs the damage I'd say.

unsure, I haven't tested myself. I tested tengen buff (same buff damage as kara) and carnage gave more than double the increase.
I was just referring to the fact that you suggested not using Carnage with Susanoo because it was nerfed and it was better to just use Power Pill (Susanoo Post-Patch video).
That was based off, like I said, things I heard. Also wasn't in the actual video, it was a comment, as I wasn't 100% sure. You can easily test however.
But the question should be then is if you can justify running steel talisman for that extra damage from carnage over pill (if any), which takes up jutsu slots. This tank build can since well, you're goal is to be tanky, and steel not only replaces carnage debuff but gives the original defense buff (when used after you cast carnage). So it's a different case than susanoo/lw.
Just wanted to put it out there,if only usto use Nue Mask is for Lightening damage then you can use Magatam or Prayer beads with Lightening damage of 13.8 but then you probably wont get YOkai combat damage. its just for those who want to get more damage reduction with one piece of any helm set.
But i think I like build because it doesnt rely on LW and any other stupid stuff.
One question, Can I reforge Change to Attack on my Axe cuz that's the only thing I'm missing on it.
yah you can reforge cta on axe, nothing conflicts with it, except other cta. For the helm someone suggested a better replacement in the comments, which I've pinned. the lightning damage was whatever. status is barely effective when you melt stuff in under 5 seconds anyways.
lol that's right. I was farming Nue Mask for hrs but that fucker wont even drop. But I got Prayer beads with Lightening damage so I guess I'll just roll with it. thanks tho

Yo I did that return of the gourd mission but it didn't give me that smithing text. It was a different armor. Does t drop from one of the revenants or boss in that mission? If so then I'll do that rather then spend hours trying to get the damn boots in the obsidian samurai mission. 😂
yah from boss. Lots of people wear tat at isle of demon ng+ though, I would check there first.
Where did you find a weapon with CTA Strength inheritable? Farming and reforging for it has proven to be quite the pain in the ass..
from revenants. However, new update randomizes all stats from revenant drops so everyone is SOL if they don't have a an extra cta inheritable wpn pre-patch. You'll have to reforge it yourself, and yes it is hell.
Not to mention they added so many new traits with the patch, reducing the chances of reforging it by even more. Either way, really fun build. I'm sure that CTA will pop up eventually.

yokai incense. Run through the level while kiting for some good fun :) Most builds would be dead trying to do so, so this is only really possible with axe/kusa spin skills and being tanky enough not to get combo wombo'd.

yes, I should specify it's not a mission reward. Its a smithing text DROP like you would get from defeating bosses for their smithin text. I've gotten monobe axe and tatenashi text from farming gourd.

Think the bosses dropped it (oda/yasuke). But isle of demons in ng+ near the water, usually have some revenants wearing tatenashi. I would try that 1st.

one question: how does ypu do to make your KI refill so damn fast? I attempted here and my KI dry out so fast :/
refill? out of ki (recovery speed) on an armor piece is probably the reason. Also B agility. C agility increases ki cost of attacks/skills. Battle focus (axe skill) is also generally needed to spin longer.
sorry for my bad english, I got out of stamina (KI, the bar below the health one) Im B on agility and battle focus is on. My set have some skill KI reduction, should I reroll some more? 'cause you spin like, forever, and after just 3-4 seconds I can't anymore. :/

do you have ki reduction on wpn? I have 23% reduction (mid stance ki reduction, so when I spin in mid stance, it takes less ki), and then 14.6% from master swordsman. Also have 184 ki. The more you have, the more you spin. I have 15 heart. ki on chest piece. Copy what you can, that's all I can say.
Gonna try out tonight, I'm almost lvl 300 and gonna respect more points to KI, thanks m8! if it works, I'll let you know haha your susano build is carrying me on at least, finish all missions on "way of the strong".

anything for axe usually works, the skills are overpowered (titanic strength, lumber chop, spin2win). Only in the final difficulty is where you might have some trouble since defense is nearly useless (unless heavily stacked sacrificng dmg) in way of the nioh because of the OP damage enemies deal.

gear from revenants drop their original stats, and my axe was just a plain kaido axe with nothing special. I had to farm around for a cta str wpn to put on my axe. So dropping my axe would be pointless since you wouldn't get the cta, only normal trash stats the original had. Try isle of demons or spirit slumbers, eventually you'll find one. cta stamina is fine too.
How long did it take you to farm that Nue mask? I want it to round off any lighting build I have in mind now or the DLC, but still no drop after 40+ runs.

Not necessarily a divine one, I believe the best way of farming is doing one of the new quests (one of those boss runs), though I can't recall which one, might edit this comment if I went for it and figured out which one it is

Huggy Bear I feel you on those regards, most of my friends got ogress in 5 tries tops. I farmed her 60+ times in Way of the Strong, switched to Way of the Samurai, killed her 3 times, got it on the 3rd time. Crazy Rngeezuz

I cant get close combat damage on my weapons
do they have a damage stat already? (like skill dmg, strong attack, attack from behind, etc) you can only have 1 normal (white/blue) damage stat on a weapon.

yes. this build is balanced. My Buzzsaw build is offensive ver., and my immortal axe build is defense. Mastodon is in-between them in offense and defense. All 3 are good.

Your videos are extremely helpful and clear. I've also seen your hurrican titan build, which is the easiest for me to replicate, since I'm only lvl. 150. I think I'll use as inspiration for my first build (I must recognize that I've been upgrading my character almost casually in the first run, so I want to become stronger for the NG+)!

Return of the Gourd ng+ gives you a guaranteed drop. Otherwise you have to hope it drops randomly or from trail of the master mission method (youtube it)

nah, rage replaces carnage/power pill, meaning you can't have both up at the same time, meanwhile battle focus you can, and makes you spin longer.
