Nioh - Close Combat Damage Build (Dual Sword, All-Purpose, Fun)

  • This is my favorite dual sword build so far. It's an "all-purpose" build that almost feels lazy to play, and at this point of the game, that's exactly why I love it. That, and if you want this build for yourself, it's super easy to get the gear and put it together.

    • @fuzzybearbarian
      @fuzzybearbarian  7 лет назад

      If your last slot is empty, and one slot has the armor set name in it, then you have 5 slots in use. If one of those 5 slots has an inheritable special effect already on it, then you'll never be able to fill the blank slot. If there's no inheritable in any of those 5 slots, then you can inherit a new special effect into that blank slot.

    Thanks for the builds, man. I really love dual swords. This looks perfect for me as I can never really focus on just one type of game play - I like to use all the possible moves and mix up stances now and then

    • @fuzzybearbarian
      @fuzzybearbarian  5 лет назад

      No probs. For most of my Nioh play dual swords was my favorite. Until Way of the Nioh when I started to enjoy the Katana's Flowing Shadow skill. After that I never went back.

      @@fuzzybearbarian yeah I feel like finding another weapon to enjoy, I am currently at level 220ish still in way of strong doing the lvl 200+ missions from dlcs. katana seems like a natural progression, anyway I do keep a katana as my secondary. I have been curious about the Odachi because having a slow weapon would be a nice change of pace from Katanas. but first I think I will definitely hunt down the build you put here. I put most of my stats into skill so I am worried I will have to respec just to try out the other builds... I think your build will speed up my progression so I can mess around with builds after I reach lvl 250+. It seems to be taking forever to level up now, but I want to finish the dlcs first then find a good level spot to take me to 300. cheers fuzzy!

    • @fuzzybearbarian
      @fuzzybearbarian  5 лет назад +1

      @@MrSuckeragi Yeah, there are times when leveling up or getting the gear you want take forever. The grind is a bit much at times. I found it necessary to take breaks and come back to it, especially in Way of the Nioh at the Abyss level - man, 999 levels is a big undertaking. But with breaks it's alright. Oh, and don't worry about respeccing. At some point in the game you'll have tons of resources to respec as often as you want. Sometimes I respecced 10 or 20 times in a single day, just to test stuff.

    Hey fuzzy bearbabarian-I wanted to thank you for this build template. This one I chose to model my build in and so far in is FANTASTIC! Loads of fun and I can trade hits with the rev tankers out there even at level 700++ with sunateas and master swordsmens and WOTE sets or combos of them with YM gem. I prioritized Heart as I was somewhat following your JM/DS build and was too lazy to respec for this build so now playing catch up with Skill alongside Stamina. With Stamina I am 1 PT away from B agility then I'm back to speed I'm used to. I've 4 set WOTW/Bow combo w/MS set with its DS sword I'll just kill spelling the sword name sorry. I've WOTE to combo with but honestly it'll tie me up just to get CCD not to mention impact agility. I cannot rely on the 1-piece Sanada as the license check from TECMO with that DLC is sooooo buggy as d00d00 :-P I think electricity is the new Sloth now as TECMO nerfed the heck out of that but with Kara-Gishi or Paired-Raiken with the MS set DS with electricity of the gate, it makes the Yokai bosses more manageable. CCD, I think is better than DFB as it still is an effort to get behind where CCD should work all angles including behind so this build supports it. Anyways, thx FB, I will leave a like

    • @fuzzybearbarian
      @fuzzybearbarian  7 лет назад

      Thanks man, glad you got something out of it. And yeah, CCD is better than damage from behind with the exception that you can, if lucky, get a higher roll on damage from behind. But being situational, I prefer slightly lower damage that I can use from any angle.

    i really like the idea and playstyle of this build as im more of an all-rounder/more defensive kind of player than a glass cannon especially in these harder combat games (for me at least), iv just got back into playing nioh after almost 3 yrs and hadnt really got far back then tbh, atm im just lvling up but iv tried the sign of the cross skill quite a few times and all i seem to do is unsheathe my swords no sign of the cross atk so is there something im doing wrong? im figured that u only use it when u have the red grapple/out of ki indicator but i still cant get it to work so any help/tips would be appreciated and thx for the build video that explains everything else really nicely

    Interesting. I've been using Warrior of the East with Spear and 99 body, but I decided to level up the Master Swordsman dual swords and have been playing with them all day. CTA Body makes the swords still do pretty alright damage, but you're right about the armor being super heavy, so I don't have the points to fully invest in all the DS stats just yet. Still, it works very well just using windstorm with a lot of skill life drain.

    • @fuzzybearbarian
      @fuzzybearbarian  7 лет назад +1

      I went with Red Demon Armor set and Katana in my first playthrough as it was the easiest one to get in early game for me then. I posted info on that here: ruclips.net/video/OV9cdhuNU-g/видео.html In that build I prioritized heart, but if you don't have problems with ki management, skill is actually better because it scales your weapon damage faster, so you're already good there. Aside from that, I didn't do any serious build or respeccing in my first playthrough as farming for what you need is best done in NG+, and you don't get divine gear to start worrying about leveling up your gear until then either. Best tip? Don't worry about leveling gear. Play with the best gear that drops. Keep armor sets if you can for the extra perks. Farm every Revenant you see as they'll probably give you the best gear.

    • @fuzzybearbarian
      @fuzzybearbarian  7 лет назад

      All tests so far show power pills are still lagging behind carnage for damage output, despite the nerf. Bear in mind that tests on this kind of stuff should be done when all stats that scale Ninjutsu or Magic are even, with other buffs removed. If you still get different results after that, you should post them. • @fuzzybearbarian
      @fuzzybearbarian  7 лет назад

      I'm guessing proficiency bonus is an inheritable then? In which case, you must have one of those other damage types as listed in the damage section of the spreadsheet Tek Almight posted. You'll have to reforge whichever one it is out of your weapon before you can inherit CCD over the proficiency bonus.

    Since this build seems to be primarily using close combat damage modifiers wouldn't Kingo's set be a better choice? It's full set modifiers comes up to 14% as opposed to the 10% you'd get from Warrior of the East

    • @fuzzybearbarian
      @fuzzybearbarian  7 лет назад +1

      EDIT: Actually, no. Kingo's is a 6 piece set. So with a Yasakani, you need to have 5 pieces on to get Kingo's close combat damage in full. That would leave only 2 slots for other gear, which wouldn't be enough to match it with either of these sets to get their extra close combat damage, as you need a minimum of 3 of either of these sets. In other words, Kingo's has more close combat damage as a single set, but compared to this build, it has less overall by a considerable margin (base value, 14.2% vs 20.4%, which of course becomes 24.4% when upgraded).

    • @ChapHammersmith
      @ChapHammersmith 7 лет назад

      Zalashiji Heckroth nice build and it's pretty close, but the best combination for me is 4 pieces of kingo's and 3 of master swordsman, it's about 3% less close combat damage and 3% less final blow damage but you get 20% extra damage from behind and only need around 30 stamina for b agility. As for guardian spirits I'm on the fence between Kato and tengen kujaku. Using an extraction talisman you can boost your damage by 40-50% with the first strike of windstorm for the subsequent hits. However you may not always have it procced for sign of the cross.

    • @WelfareWaifu
      @WelfareWaifu 7 лет назад

      Oh true, I wasn't considering mix matching sets, I thought you were going mostly full Warrior of the east save for the Sanada Chest. Thanks for the clear up

    • @fuzzybearbarian
      @fuzzybearbarian  7 лет назад +2

      That's a good build too and was the one I was looking at first. I decided against it as I wanted this build to be more tanky than Kingo's could offer and I wanted the extra close combat damage from any angle without having to get behind. That, and I also wanted a build that was easy for people wanting to replicate it to get. Kingo's is a bit harder, since you need to farm for centipede's fangs to forge it, otherwise you have to use drops off Revenants which will cost you in having to put needless points into body to wear the set. So yeah, that's a great build, but my aim with this build was an "all purpose" build that didn't require positioning, such as from behind, and that was pretty easy for anyone to get up and running fast. Also, I've leveled up Kingo's armor a few times now and couldn't face doing it again :P

    • @fuzzybearbarian
      @fuzzybearbarian  7 лет назад

      Isle of Demons is where a lot of top tier players drop their Revenants. You're near that now in NG+. If I were you, I'd hang out at the start there and farm Revenants. Happy to drop the gear for you there too. You'll get the gear and weapons you want then. Once you do, allocate your points at that time. Allocate them to get enough magic or ninjutsu casts that suit your play style, one point at a time and slowly so you don't waste them, until you have what you want. Then put the balance of your points into skill and heart.

      Familiarity bonus damage gives you 15%. CCD can give you up to 20%. So, CCD is better IF you get a roll higher than 15%. Agility Bonus Damage depends on your equipment weight ratio. But at its peak it will be less than CCD at 20%. Drop the +17 atk and def. Replace that with Attack of +35 (+20 at its base before max familiarity). Much better to have the higher attack imo.

    Isn't Sanada set better pure skill wise damage?

    • @fuzzybearbarian
      @fuzzybearbarian  7 лет назад +3

      Well, the answer is situational. But in short, Sanada can do more damage if you are in a critical state (30% or less health left) and you're using skills other than Sign of the Cross. This build isn't situational to the same degree, apart from requiring you to get in close to the enemy to get the benefit of the extra 24.2% close combat damage. Plus if you use Sign of the Cross, then it doesn't matter the situation, Sanada can't compete there. And Sign of the Cross is so awesome and fun to use that, for me at least, I can't really stop using it haha. One shotting Revenants the moment they spawn is kind of insane!

  • @RiceOfTheThirdWorld

    One more question mate. Is better if my weapon has skill damage rather than close combat damage?

    • @fuzzybearbarian
      @fuzzybearbarian  7 лет назад +1

      Well, that's a really good question. Consensus seems to be that close combat damage and skill damage equate to more or less the same thing when you're attacking and are in close. However, I've also read people saying they've had skill damage over 20% on their weapons. I haven't seen that yet, but if it's true, then skill damage would potentially be better. It's funny you should post this question, as today I've been trying to forge an inheritable skill damage over 20% just so I can do some proper testing. No luck so far though. For all I know, skill damage over 20% was nerfed. I don't really know yet.

    • @RiceOfTheThirdWorld

      I'm gong to try to roll it once I've leveled up what I'm doing right now. I want a clean test of what I have now vs what I have after I re-roll it. But, if you still have skill damage of 20% and it's an inheritable, by all means, I'd love to get it off your revenant. I'm guessing you've already re-rolled it though?

    • @RiceOfTheThirdWorld
      @RiceOfTheThirdWorld 7 лет назад

      Fuzzy Bearbarian it's not inheritable. It rolls in line of familiarity damage bonus. And you can't inherit close combat damage if you have skill damage to your weapon. It sucks

    • @fuzzybearbarian
      @fuzzybearbarian  7 лет назад +1

      Ah, that's okay. I plan to roll inheritable skill damage and use it to test whether or not there really is a difference depending on the skill. I don't think there will be, but when I get the time, I'll do some proper tests to see.

    Carnage is useless after 1.06. Strength pills is almost the same thing and has no defense penalty.

    • @fuzzybearbarian
      @fuzzybearbarian  7 лет назад

      Carnage is still more powerful than power pills, so if it's useless then power pills are even more useless, right? But nah, neither of them are useless. They're both helpful. I've personally never had an issue with the carnage defense reduction, but then it's easily compensated for by using steel or protection and having a quick-change scroll for backup. That said, there's nothing wrong with preferring power pills because in the end it's all a balancing act for getting the right build to suit your own personal play style.

    • @JackAssetsBakin
      @JackAssetsBakin 7 лет назад

      It may be depending on the build, my build is focused on final damage, and after 1.06 I had only 1k of damage added. More advantage to use the pill without defense penalty.

    • @fuzzybearbarian
      @fuzzybearbarian  7 лет назад +1

      It may. All the stats I've seen show carnage out damages power pill in every situation so far, but I don't think I've seen any stat specific to using it with final blow damage. As a base it should out damage power pills though. However, since it has been buffed, I can see a possibility where it might scale if you have more Dex than Magic. There's a Reddit thread where people are sharing stats. If you get some numbers together that show power pills are delivering more damage than carnage with your build, it would be interesting to see you post the numbers there: www.reddit.com/r/Nioh/comments/61ns7d/detailed_patch_106_changes_nerfs_buffs/

      I saw this post, the percentage in these tests are very favorable to carnage, I do not understand why my final damage, which was 35K before, after the update was 20K. Using force pills, I have 19K.
      They probably decreased the final damage to avoid hit kill. The carnage must be efficient yet in melee damage.

      Sorry, I keep my PSN free of friend management, which is why I make sure I'm active here in comments. I just dropped my revenant, so maybe you'll be lucky later. Either way, I'm in Australia and its 1.43 am now, so I'm going to bed. If my revenant doesn't stay around for you, maybe you'll be around when I get up and I'll drop it for you again then.

    What about kingo armor?

    • @fuzzybearbarian
      @fuzzybearbarian  7 лет назад

      Good armor for certain builds, for sure. You wouldn't get more close combat damage than with this build if you used it here though. Well, unless you hit from behind. But the point of this build was to be non-situational, whereas Kingo's is situational.

    Why don't use windmill skill use windstorm?

    • @fuzzybearbarian
      @fuzzybearbarian  5 лет назад +1

      Not sure what you're asking here. Windmill is a spear skill. I think you might be referring to the Water Sword skill? In which case, that's a skill that relies on you standing in one spot while you're enemy stands in one spot (something that isn't always feasible). It has its place, but Windstorm is a skill you can activate on the move, anywhere, against any enemy. Plus, at the time of this video, windstorm was the highest damage. It got nerfed later on, so now Water Sword is higher damage, but still, it's also higher risk. Both are good skills, both have their place, but me, I still prefer Windstorm for its versatility.

      @@fuzzybearbarian yes, water sword, I been using it for a while. Yes it has its risk. I learn the key is not to be greedy. Pressing triangle about 3-4 times is enough, Nue thought me that. After 20 mins 😂. Then change stands dodge and repeat.
      I don't know how I go so much into this game. 😂

      @@TheLateral18 I know, it's because it's awesome lol! Seriously, when I first played Nioh (way back during the beta) I thought, nah, I'm not into it. But I stuck with it and within a few days the gameplay combined with the depth of builds had me hooked. I can't wait for Nioh 2!

      What do you think nioh 2 will be based on.
      Would be cool if you can carry your gear to the new game 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
      How do you compare footage for damage. I recored a few videos agains onrioky, with different sets and GS. I just couldn't tell the difference

      There'll be no carry over between Nioh and Nioh 2. They are two different games and the protagonist isn't William either. From what it looks like, you're playing a demon samurai!

    Does this build still work?

    • @fuzzybearbarian
      @fuzzybearbarian  7 лет назад +1

      Pretty much all builds from NG+ post patch 1.06 still work, however, some are just less OP than others. This was never an OP build though, so it still works. However, if dual swords is what you want, the Sennin build I posted is still way better in my opinion.

    Any tips for parrying?

    • @fuzzybearbarian
      @fuzzybearbarian  7 лет назад

      Sure. Think of it as an attacking move rather than a defensive move. That switch in mindset got me parrying almost straight away. The trick is to be patient and wait for the moment the enemy does their attack move. I find pushing forward on the left stick at the same time as I do it, so that I can run in slightly to interrupt the enemies move helps. But it does vary depending on the enemy. Some are best handled by standing still and not having L1 held down until the precise moment you want to parry, so that you press R1 and TRIANGLE together at the precise moment, rather than guarding in advance. Sometimes guarding in advance causes enemies to do different less-easy to parry moves. Also, you can watch my latest video where I do quite a few in a row :) ruclips.net/video/X1UNPbLl3ss/видео.html

      Do all parry skills have different timings? For whatever reason, I can land the Shrike way more easily than I can Haze with a single sword (and people say the timing for Haze is easier). Also, I realized Haze works vs skeleton yokai for some reason, but are there any other counters that do?

    • @fuzzybearbarian
      @fuzzybearbarian  7 лет назад

      Parry timings do vary. They will also vary depending on status ailments like lightning and sloth. Plus, weapon to weapon the timing also seems to slightly vary depending simply on the weapon animation, at least it seems so to me. When I get used to a certain type of parry timing on a particular build I find I'm completely useless with parrying when I switch builds or add different status effects into the mix. Basically, for me at least, I find I need to practice with the build and gear/spells I'm using for a while to refine the timing. Eventually I get it pretty much perfect (by which time I end up changing to a new build for testing, so yeah...)

      Dual swords have a lot of parries. Though I love the Shrike, I was curious about the other two. Someone said that Earthly Flow can actually counter the axe Yokis and giant skeletons! Gonna have to try this out now.
