Hey Jay, off topic from the vid but today I finally got the oc818 that I was deliberating on a few months ago and I don't regret a thing! It's so transient and a gorgeous little microphone that I highly recommend if you'd like a hypercardioid condenser mic on top of solid condenser mic! Take care!

Thanks, Jay. Awesome vid on several levels. One question, though. Still find the surging music to sound artificial. Did you try it without the side chain volume modulation, or at least a lot less? Also, how big a difference do you get from that sophisticated loudness adjustment versus a basic Normalization to -2 dB?

Hey Adam! Thanks for your questions.
Yes, in this example the side chain modulation is far from fine-tuned. Were one to polish my example more completely, I’d definitely spend more time tweaking settings based on the levels I’m working with and/or adjusting things manually as needed. More or less intended as a showcase of the process rather than the product if that makes sense.
The loudness adjustment I’m using involves a bit of compression and limiting, whereas normalization will only turn up the volume. The main difference will be the overall loudness you get from compression/limiting is more consistent and in most cases be higher than if you simply normalize.
