Question the eshop isnt all you need to worry about see soon if you dont have the dlc installed or day one patches on the 3ds or they get corrupted some how like is common with alot of newer games well sucks to be you hope you have a back up of a back up ready going into this trash consoles future and reselling those games is non existent so i hope you didnt pay 60$ for that trash
@@roxaskinghearts just mod your 3ds, no worries when everything is available
@@mimidotcatOr just buy a 300$ tablet sense your basically saying pirating isnt a problem then why not get something that can play switch too moron heck 300$ i could emulate a ps4 with a intel hades nuc thanks but with such a childish debate like that makes me question where you dropped on your head kid get out of here grown ups are talking
@@mimidotcat getting a 3ds in good condition is more expensive than a switch now
Radiant Historia is so overlooked it didn't even make the overlooked games list.
How unjust...
so true, glad i picked it up when it was on sale. Best game purchase i’ve ever made hands down! wish they could remake one for switch but unlikely :(
Time traveling rpg? Sounds kinda familiar 🤔
The game's a critical darling and the original I think sold well. But yeah, the 3ds remaster is certainly underappreciated. Wonder if we could get a sequel. The combat and story mechanics were refreshing.
I wanted that game, but I had too much of a JRPG backlog on 3DS as it was. I'm still not done with Alliance Alive and EO Nexus, but I'm thinking maybe I should see what it costs on Amazon anyway.
The same with Strange Journey Redux, it's very sad indeed.
Samus Returns was done so dirty. If it had released in the place of Federation Force, I think Metroid would have more of Nintendo's attention and marketing due to positive reception, and it probably would have sold better too.
Idk why they took so much time in between Other M and Samus Returns. If Samus Returns had been released in 2015 instead, a lot of the bad blood could have been avoided even before Federation Force. Hell, they could have just dropped a trailer in 2015 promising Samus Returns in 2016 instead to build up hype. I have no idea why they waited so long to put Metroid on 3DS.
Federation force is the better game
@@l.n.3372 My guess is a combination of not enough interest and being busy doing other things. The vitriol surrounding Other M was so toxic (not saying it was unwarranted, but it was still ridiculous) that Nintendo probably didn't want to risk angering its fans even more with another Metroid game. Remember, Other M was directed by Metroid veteran, Yoshio Sakamoto. If he couldn't make a Metroid game to please fans, it's unlikely anyone else could. Except for Retro Studios, who were busy making Donkey Kong Country for 4 years, and definitely couldn't take on another big project and risk both of them suffering.
@@novustalks7525 Regardless, Samus Returns would have been better received because it is a traditional Metroid game, released on Metroid's 30th anniversary. Federation Force was something nobody asked for, and its timing was very poor.
@@jacobmonks3722 yeah but federation force actually felt like a real Metroid game ironically enough
Hot Take: the 3DS version of Captain Toad is the definitive version. Absolutely everything about this game's design feels like it was made for the 3DS. HD graphics are nice and all but this game is right up there with Super Mario 3D Land in terms of demonstrating the value of stereoscopic 3D. It just looks absolutely fantastic.
Not to mention that the controls are great. Especially with a new 3ds xl model
Just hate they didn't make the DLC for it :/
Yup! Best port of any Nintendo game. Almost flawless
Not much of a hot take
@@Sinistar1983 Totally agree. Not sure I'd be quite as enthusiastic without the C nub.
Ironically, Switch games like Fire Emblem Three Houses and Dragon Quest 11 actually made me go and buy games like Fire Emblem Echoes and Dragon Quest 8, because I loved those games, wanted more games like them, and realized that such games were already available on my 3DS.
Where did you get echoes in physical ?
@@Mario-pz2wb I didn't, I got a digital copy. The "go and buy" remark wasn't necessarily meant literally. I got a physical copy of DQ8 tho.
I bought 2 copies of the FE: Echoes retail a month ago for 5 € each at the german discounter "mueller". They got plenty of them.
~ kind regards Smart86 ~
@@burnindahell I bought a brand new sealed copy of Echoes from Amazon. I have DQ8 on the PS2 so I saw no reason to buy it.
@@Mario-pz2wb they are going for 30 at GameStop, I got one myself like a week ago
Ah the era of "this would be perfect for the switch " and "wheres the switch version?"
What do you mean? People are still saying this.
@paul k They say it about other games that skip the Switch.
You know what? Animal Crossing Plaza should be on the Switch!
@paul k people need to stop underestimating the switch's power. Yeah, it's not gonna be running say, assassins creed odyssey, but games like NiER Automata or Kingom Hearts 3 could totally work if the company put some effort in the porting and optimization.
@@ZimVerse Nintendo never gave a damn about fancy graphical tech, and seeing how it led into every major gaming company forsaking stylized visual for hyper realism, neither do I now. If you wanna get technical the Switch is Nintendo's 8th generation of home consoles.
Radiant Historia: Perfect Chronology was another late 3DS release that a lot of people slept on. It came out early 2018 and was a turn-based JRPG from Atlus. Sure, it's essentially a remake of the same game that came out on DS years ago, but it does include some new content now. I highly recommend this game if you haven't played it!
Well I had the original DS version of Radiant Historia already so I saw no real reason to buy it again on the 3DS, updates or no. That's why I slept on it.
Lol I just bought it a few weeks ago. Never heard of it before but I love JRPGs. Sadly I never got hooked on Fire Emblem. I'm just too big of an idiot to play them. ;)
I can't reccomend the 3DS remake. It cuts the money you get after every battle by a fraction. Like 1/4, 1/8 or 1/10, cant remember which, but they then sold a money grinding DLC. Pretty scummy selling DLC to fix a problem that wasnt even present in the original game. Not worth supporting atlus for this absolutely scummy move, so I recommend either getting the game used (good luck with how hard it is to find a used physical copy), or getting the original DS version instead, which is much easier to locate.
holy crap Radiant Historia is impossible to put down once you start. It seems like it'd be so boring but it grabs you and doesn't let go.
Yeah it was a pretty cool game. 👍
"I just wanna talk about it" is the best reason to include sth in a list that normally shouldn't be included in said list
I’d love to see a remaster of Samus Returns and WarioWare Gold on Switch even if we would have to use Gyro controls regarding the Touch Microgames for the latter when docked.
I would totally buy Samus Returns again, if they updated the game for switch.
.... urgh, I'm so starved for a new Metroid game D:
ruclips.net/video/eliTpRwTdRk/видео.html
@Brian Donegan I think they should be remastered so more people could experience those games not because I don’t have said games.
@Brian Donegan Plenty of Switch owners out there who don’t have a 3DS but want to experience these games
While touch and motion stuff could work on switch, there is no microphone, so those microgames are SOL. Not the biggest loss in the world but i'd rather just see a new game designed for switch, with maybe the original game included or remade.
I wish kid Icarus uprising was ported to switch I love that game.
It could certainly use a pro controller support, to help keep my hands from getting too cramped trying to play it for more then 6 minutes.
I should get back to try the game again with my bigger hand friendly New 3DS XL, but I haven't yet. Do you happen to know if the analog nub works with this title? *(I would likely still have to use the stand that came with the game still.)
Seriously, it's one of the best Nintendo games. Give me a Switch remaster + sequel and I will never ask anyone for anything ever again
@@PedroMatos482 Well, Sakurai like, swore over his mother's grave that he won't make a sequel, though...

Ever Oasis is such an underrated gem! Glad that you mentioned it! :)
Forgetting Yo-kai Watch 3 on this list is a damn shame!
Bought myself 2 copies cause it's that good
Same, YKW is one of my favorite franchises and 3 is just sooooo good , I still have things to do after 200 hours
Nintendo forgot it too because it’s North American print run was abysmally low
@@Poever I'm just glad we got the game at all. Can't say the same for YK4 lol
This. Easily one of the best JRPGs on the console. And that's considering how great the 3DS was for JRPGs.
Wario Ware Gold is probably the best game in this list. Such an amazing game and the best in the franchise.
waluigi
Yeah! It was such a surprise too! It came out at a time when everyone ws beginning to think Wario Ware was dead. So glad it came out!
IK lots of people complained that it wasn't on switch but it really wouldn't work as well there
They even have voicd acting
There could have been kirbys extra epic yarn
I absolutely adore Ever Oasis.
That and Kid Icarus Uprising need sequels or ports on Switch.
Kid Icarus especially, because dear god I want to play the game again with controls that don't make my wrist burn up
Glad you showcased Ever Oasis, great game that got ignored!
I remember seeing Ever Oasis during a Nintendo treehouse and immediately falling in love. I spent so much time playing it, but I never hear anyone mention it when talking about 3ds games. Absolutely one of the platform’s best.
It's end game content was a bit meh though. But it was fun while it lasted.
As an Aussie, I’ll tell you... it was partially looked upon when it was promoted on TV along with the new ‘New’ 2DS XL model coming out first. (And early too!)
I just finished it and the story is very nice. I had so much fun playing it! I really loved the side stories and all the characters that you can discover on quests.
I appreciated that end game allowed the players to indulge in the side stories a bit more. I still come back to it because I love to learn more about the characters.
“There’s games where you twist! There’s games where you touch! There’s games where you blow!”
Say no more. WarioWare Gold, here I come!
I want to do all of those things to Wario.
@@FormulaFanboy wow..
"Stouter than an iron burrito! Studlier than a snow tire!"
Oh Wario, you had me at "touch" and "blow"
Creative comment. I wonder who finished first?
Miitopia and Story of Seasons: Trio of Towns both came out in 2017 too, and they were both pretty rad.
Miitopia is a weird game. On paper, it sounds like the worst RPG ever. The gameplay is laughably simplistic. Yet... It brought me so much joy! I made Mii's based on my drinking buddies and watching them fight, get mad at each other, etc was hilarious.
I can't believe I had to search for a comment about Miitopia! It was the #1 game I thought of when I saw the title of the video- love that game! \(^ヮ^)/
This could not have come out at a better time, literally just decided to swap the shell on my 3DS XL and bring it back to life. What an awesome little console, miss the 3DS days!
Hey, is there any tutorial you would recommend for the 3DS XL?
@@oeurves_d-oriel This link is the best I can do for you, hope it helps. For some reason teardowns of the original 3DS XL are not easy to find, but there's lots of *new* 3DS XL teardowns around if that's what you have www.sosav.com/guides/game-consoles/nintendo/nintendo-portable/nintendo-3ds-xl/
If someone reading this knows of a better 3DS XL teardown resource, please comment ^
@@breakpointbay Thanks dude 👍🏽
Do u remember when you got the 3ds to the mall to streetpass with ppl? Wow, I loved that tiny green light.
Because the Switch doesn’t fit into my pocket, I still take my 3DS out and about with me sometimes! Last year I even bought Cut The Rope Triple Treat for it, due to the original iOS versions of those games being replaced by freemium retoolings! Smartphone gaming has become a joke. After over 12 years of iPhoning, I may get a Nokia KaiOS phone as my next handset.
I really liked EverOasis. I thought it was a great game and I liked that you could play dungeons over again with harder enemies as you built up your town more and more.
Warioware gold was something I saw and was like "why not" and now it's on my top 50 video games list
Can you tell me your top 5 games
I'm a little disappointed that Yo-Kai Watch 3 wasn't put on this list, that game has so much content in it
Jon makes my phone happier
There was the Luigi's Mansion rerelease on 3DS which I really enjoyed, It gave people an easy way to play that great game without busting there butts on a Gamecube to access it, and seeing as Dark Moon worked so well handheld it just made sense to bring this one over.
That was such a good port. Played it more time on 3DS because I learned its quirk and even almost 100% it!
Fantasy Life would be awesome on the Switch, just saying.
It would be amazing on Switch!
I didn't really care for it personally.
The idea is cool, but the main story just had a bit too much talking even for an RPG.
Please don't hurt me.
@@Mr.Foxhat No that's fine bud, I personally like story heavy games, but if you don't that's fine because we all have different tastes!
@@Mr.Foxhat I personally enjoy Fantasy Life but I do agree the dialogue can be a bit much... Wish they had added a skip dialogue option.
Co-op was amazingly fun as well
Jon's "Hey Everyone" gets louder and more comfortable every single new video. I'll wait until he will basically leap out of the screen to greet me! I love it!
Yeah, I'm feeling it too
Miitopia was one of my fav late 3ds games! I love the idea of fleshing out the creativity of Tomodachi Life into a full RPG!
Fantastic video! All the Nintendo handhelds have brought me so much joy since I was a kid with my 1st gen Gameboy- I had kind of stopped gaming by the end of the DS era, but I decided to get a used 3DS a few years back and was/am suuuuper glad that I did!
I was amazed by how good Ever Oasis was!
I started playing Ever Oasis recently and OH BOY does it scratch a certain itch, it's a style of game that was already so rare. I was expecting RPGish dungeon crawling but it in fact has much more Zelda-like puzzle-based dungeons, and other than that it fits the mold of Dark Cloud more than anything else.
Radiant Historia: Perfect Chronology is my top pick for 3ds game overshadowed by Switch. Absolutely superb. Wish more people knew about it.
its so overshadowed it didnt even gwt on the list :(
It wasn't overshadowed by Switch, it was overshadowed due to its exceedingly limited print run. Many of the later 3ds games suffered this issue.
This is a fantastic game. I have both releases of it. Excellent!
This game is one of the main reasons is why I wish there was a way to stream 3DS games.
Stocke's character
I really hope that we will get a successor to the Etrian Odyssey series on the Switch. It's a perfect dungeon crawler, which aren't as popular nowadays. Etrian Odyssey 3 Untold on the Switch would be great introduction point for newcomers.
Arrrrgh, this SO much, dood. EO is such a grand adventure and unapologetically old-school. I love creating a story out of my guild and the journey around them.
With a Switch version, I still hope that cartography is still a thing. I don't care what anyone says- making maps is totally awesome and it adds to the journey.
We have seen only 5 of the 7 Yggdrasils stablished in Untold, not counting the Yggdrasil of EO 3 because it has a completly different origin, so I'm pretty sure we'll see the remaining ones on Switch entries
@Nhat Anh Hoang Doesn't mean you can't get it to work? You could always swap screens- make it so the main screen becomes secondary while you draw the map out. The buttons can be swapped with a hotkey table, and even touch controls. It's not like they're gone, lol.
@Nhat Anh Hoang I could care less for your negative and petty attitude, so I'll just say that I'll look forward to what happens in the future, lol.
Radiant Historia: Perfect Chronology is pretty awesome. Culdcept Revolt as well. Love the games listed! Thanks for the 3DS love!
@@ZimVerse I know. I own both copies. What's your point? The Mario and Luigi games listed in this video were also originally DS games. Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey Redux is another remake that gets very little love.
The 3ds is such an underrated console, but at least it sold well. The ds line is probably my favourite.
underrated? it was a huge success
John is such a wonderful addition to NintendoLife. I love all of his videos here! Thanks for the amazing content you are all making
WarioWare Gold was definitely overlooked.. loved the Simpsons reference!
Warioware Gold is one of my favorite games! I agree that it is under-rated. Edit: yes, there should be a remaster of Warioware Gold @MisterZygarde64
@Red Luigi yeah but I still want them to make a remaster uwu
A port of Yoshi's Woolly World came out for the system too. And is pretty good.
The beautiful graphics took a hit and the co-op was removed but those were small prices to pay since it still looks good and the co-op was too frustrating anyway.
The fact that it included those Poochy auto-runner levels, the cute stop-motion animation videos, and costumes for the amiibo that released after the Wii U version was certainly a nice bonus.
@@OstianOwl not to mention you could design your own yoshi
And of course the adorable yarn Poochy amiibo
Loved it.
that technically wouldn't qualify for the list, it came out about a month before the Switch
Glad I watched this, I'm really pumped to try some of these. Thanks!
Thank you SO much for mentioning Ever Oasis!! We desperately need to see this game again.
Yes! Ever Oasis deserves more love! QvQ
The 3DS is honestly one of my favorite consoles of all time. So many underrated classics that I hold close to my heart. And I'm still not finished with all it's games! It's gonna be a wild ride replaying them!
I just love your content and am so happy you are with Nintendo Life! Thank you!
Still feel like Yo-kai Watch 3 was overlooked
I didnt bought it becouse i thought it isnt that good and i think sometime im going to play it
@@bold3420 I recently bought it, and it’s actually really good! I would definitely recommend it.
I actually bought it, but gave up on it after only an hour or two of playing.
Yo-kai Watch 1 was the only one I completed, and while I liked that game, I wasn't a fan of the battle system, so when the second game was anounced and looked very similar to the first one, I passed. Then the third game came around and it actually looked like they changed the battle system quite a bit, so I was very excited and picked it up immediately. However, upon playing it, I found that these changes didn't actually amount to very much and the battle system still felt very similar, so I wasn't motivated to keep playing and eventually gave up on the game.
With Yo-kai Watch 4, they made the switch to an entirely action-based battle system, so maybe if that ever comes here I'll give it another try... although then again, I wasn't really a big fan of Level 5's action-based combat systems so far, either (I think both Yo-kai Watch Blasters and Ni no Kuni 2 had their shortcomings).
I really want to love this series (and I do in many ways), but unfortunately gameplay-wise, no Yo-kai Watch game was quite for me so far. :/
I highly recommend giving it a go if you've never played it. There's a few flaws, but the positives far outweigh the negatives imo. It has a lot of content if you end up really liking it. (also Blasters was overlooked as well)
Ok i think im going to try it
Samus Returns should, at the very least, get a port.
Then again I say the same thing about Kid Icarus Uprising, and I'm still holding out hope.
I totally agree on a Samus returns port to keep us occupied till Metroid prime 4 :)
Your voice John is extremely soothing 😊 I could listen to it all day.
Great video! There were a few other late great 3DS games that weren't mentioned in the video like The Alliance Alive and the Luigi's Mansion remake.
You really do an incredible job here. I love your videos!
I still can't believe how amazing Captain Toad on the 3ds looks.
Honestly I think it's the best version. It's content complete, more portable (which is crucial for a game of its type) and the Switch version plays terribly docked anyway. I own all 3 systems it's on, I went with the 3DS version and I don't regret it. The Wii U might be a better experience but is missing levels and I can't justify owning both :P
Ever Oasis is one of my favorite games. Really, i wish they'd port it!
Great video and pretty good list of games.
Great list! Definitely some on here I need to go back to!
Still waiting for a Rhythm Heaven game on the Switch please Nintendo!
Flipperdrip
I liked the Superstar Saga remake in particular because it came at a time when the RPGs were going through a bit of a dark age imo, so a return to the creative story and characters of Superstar Saga was super refreshing after the likes of Sticker Star and Paper Jam.
Plus, I think the backgrounds in the remakes are really nice looking. Especially Stardust Fields, Joke's end, and Peach's Stolen castle. Plus, the side mode stories weren't half bad even if the gameplay left something to be desired.
i really appreciate videos like this!
Great video join, love your presentation style good sir!
Alliance Alive was the best original 3DS RPG, and it was so slept on.
Played the HD Remastered version on Switch and it’s easily one of my favorite JRPG’s of all time. Way underrated.
I played almost all of these games, except Q2, fire emblem, and wario ware gold, & they are all my favorites for the system and I believe they are severely underrated
A word of advice, in order to play PQ2 you should probably play P3,4,5, and Q1 first, spanning multiple sony consoles
Thanks for this video Jon! I picked up a 3ds a few months ago, and have been enjoying it! It's a splendid little console. I'll have to add some of the games you talked about to my wish list!
Just what I needed to pass the time, loving the content lately!
The 3DS is everything and should be owned by every game lover... EVERY!
YES
@@ZimVerse Yeah. I don't care for the Vita at all, but that's the beauty of opinions. Everyone gets to have their own. :)

The 3DS is my favorite console, and it holds a special place in my heart. Its what got me back into console gaming after not playing anything but pc for many years.
Best nintendo channel. Thx for the amazing work!
Always a pleasure to have a Jon video. Loved the 3DS, just a treasure trove of amazing games.
I'm really glad Ever Oasis made it in! It's easily one of the most underrated games in the 3DS library!
I thought nobody else had played Ever Oasis.
It’s so good and I wanna see an HD remaster
I fucking love that game
When I saw the thumbnail that was the first thing that came to my mind
Great video guys
Thanks for your video. Well done. You have a good "radio voice". Do you do professional voice work? I definitely want to try Metroid.
Metroid 2 and Shadows of Valentia are 2 of the greatest 3DS games. Get in the bin Switch!
They are also remakes of the second game in each of their respective series. Fire Emblem has never had higher production value in its voice acting and art direction than Shadows Of Valentia. Not even Fire Emblem Three Houses comes close.
Samus Returns is awful. The original Metroid 2 is better in every way
Shout out to everyone who got most of these for like 5 quid each at Argos a while back
You got me there 😂
Jon’s voice gets higher and higher every intro.
Love it!
If they are never going to have a Virtual Console on the Switch than they need to port a good chunk of the 3ds library. Most of them just being upscaled to higher res and faster frames would look great. Just being able to play them on the Switch’s nicer screen would be amazing. Games like Samus Returns that’s amazing but came out late in the 3ds life I think most people missed it. With Zeldas anniversary how about port the 3ds games over. God I would kill for A Link Between Worlds in HD. That game was beautiful as it was.
I’m surprised you haven’t mentioned Radiant Historia: Perfect Chronology. It’s a great game and has extra content that wasn’t there for the ds version. I played the 3ds version and it was so good. It has time travel and multiple endings with some voice acting.
Sushi Strikers Way of Sushido was a forgotten release even though it was dual
Yes! This game is lots of fun and I've seen several reviewers state that the 3DS is actually the definitive version because of integral touch screen.
The thumbnails of y’all whenever you guys have a list of games and it’s just one of you holding a stack of games and making a cheesy grin makes me laugh every time. Keep up the good work!
i appreciate this vid so much. i regret only using my 3ds for the pokémon games at the time but i’ve been slowly buying other games to play today. these are great recommendations
I wish I never sold my copy of Ever Oasis. I guess I felt like I wouldnt go back to it, but I really, really enjoyed the game the whole way through.
Waiting for the episode where Jon gets to talk about Rhythm Paradise Megamix solely.
Yay, you added in Fire Emblem: Echoes!
Thank you for making this video 😁
Samus Returns was so good. Shame on Metroid fans for saying they want new mainline games and letting this game bomb.
They're very hard to please
@Robert Kenny you're very right Am2r was/is a good game but that don't mean because of what Nintendo did I won't support the metroid series.Again good point
I'm surprised you didn't mention the original Luigi's Mansion remake, which was released in Oct 2018 on 3ds
I have played through a good chunk of this last year right before I got LM3 on the Switch. Really enjoyed it. Maybe should go back and complete it.
This is great! I started playing that Dragon Quest game recently and definitely want to pick up that Fire Emblem game too. I actually got the Dragon Quest game when it came out because I didnt want to get a switch yet! I had too many 3ds games to play still. Hah
you sold me on that Dragon Quest game. I need it!! also, 4:49 lmaoo
Shadows of Valentia is my favourite FE game. Wish every FE looked and sounded the same.
Same. Everything about the presentation just hit the nail on the head for me. Music, art, story and voice acting. Absolutely superb.
I think I might be one of the remaining 4 people looking forward to Monster Hunter Stories 2! I had a lot of fun with the first one and the simple combat with the rewarding item gathering loop let me sink a lot of time into it by playing on my breaks at work.
My first dive into Fire Emblem is now on Awakening on the 3DS, and am loving it. Been also trying out Ever Oasis and loving that too. Weirdly everyone is talking about the 3DS right now, and it's starting to trend. Pulled a tonne of my old games out, even replaying Link Between Worlds and have to wonder why more of these games don't just get upscaled to Switch. There are emulators that run them at 2k and 4k just beautifully, and I would happily buy these games to run on my Switch.
Love all this 3DS and wiiU love in these recent videos guys !
Ever Oasis was so much fun and stories was a lot of fun, if only it wasn't rock paper scissors it would have been a perfect rpg.
I'm really disappointed with the use of Miis on the Switch. They're used in only a few games like MK8D & SSBU and don't get love like they did from WII to 3DS.
Games like Wii Sport, Wii Party, Tomodachi Life & notably, Miitopia, a late 3DS games, are a lot of fun. I find it always great to play as Miis and they're such generic characters that they can be in any style of game.
I’m in love with the Dragon Quest series 💗💗💗💗 also glad to see Echoes in this list. Sonya was my fave in the game.
Ok, thank you truly for adding ever oasis on your list , ever oasis and fantasy life are my 2 fav games on the 3ds.
FE: Echoes is so relatable. I absolutely love that FE game!
i hope Samus Returns & Ever Oasis get a new chance on the Switch
started playing ever oasis and geniunely love it. sat down with it about 5 hours ago and have only now looked up again from the screen
Miitopia would be right at home on this list! I still open up my 2DS XL to work on the post-game stuff and see what antics my Miis are up to. Great game!
